* FluffyTheTerrible: The vicious and scary dog is named "Fluffy"."Fluffy" as a possible nod to Cerberus whose name is theorized by many linguists to mean "Spot."

* HoistByHisOwnPetard: The basilisk, through some of its fangs and Gryffindor's sword, provides the venom that destroys most of Voldemort's horcruxes, allowing him to be killed and therefore bringing down the lineage of Salazar Slytherin along with him.

* ForTheLulz: In the movie version of ''Chamber of Secrets'', Riddle is forced to duck as Fawkes flies over his head; the position of Fawkes' tail implies he's come at Riddle with his talons out and tried to take a pot shot at him. He's a bird, he doesn't ''need'' to do this, so apparently he's just doing it because he can.

* OlderThanTheyLook: Fawkes has been with Dumbledore for at least fifty nine years as of ''Half-Blood Prince'', meaning that he is a damn sight older than he looks.

* BadAss: Hogwarts has an anti-apperation/disapperation charm on it, meaning no-one can come and go by magic. This, apparently, does not apply to Phoenixes as Fawkes is able to take Dumbledore out of the castle. Also, he's exploding in a blast of fire as he does.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Fawkes is an adorable handsome Phoenix who stays by Dumbledore's side like a good friend. He also ''pecks out the Basilisks eyes'' in ''Chamber of Secrets''.

** In Chamber of Secrets, Dumbledore mentions offhandedly that he's been telling Fawkes to "get a move on" (and die, to be reborn) for days.

* UndyingLoyalty: To Dumbledore and by extension Hogwarts. [[spoiler:When Dumbledore dies, he no longer has a reason to stay]].
