[[quoteright:321:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/disco_bears_profile.png]]

A groovy golden bear with an orange afro, yellow leisure suit, yellow bell-bottoms, and platform shoes. Disco Bear is stuck in the 1970's and lives the disco way of life, from his clothing to his dance moves to the music that plays on his alarm clock. He likes to roller blade, ski, and (unsuccessfully) hit on Giggles and Petunia, but most of all he loves to disco dance. However, he also loves deep fried/fatty foods, has a noticeable gut, and lives an unhealthy lifestyle. He takes great pride in his afro and goes to extremes to make sure it's perfect. It took until the TV series for the creators to stop finding him annoying and actually start liking him.

An aquamarine sea otter with a pirate motif, complete with a Jolly Roger hat, an eyepatch, a hook hand, and peg legs. He also wears a ripped red striped shirt and black pants. His accessories actually cover his missing eye, hand, and legs. Russell’s vocabulary, including his screams, usually consists of “Yar” and other variations. Lifty and Shifty often scam the more asocial characters, usually seen near the sea on his own or steal from unsuspecting Tree Friends (mostly [[TooDumbToLive Lumpy]]) in an effort to get rich. They are played as sinister characters with narrow eyes, dark mask-like markings around Lumpy. As years passed, he became more sociable. He enjoys nautical activities, such as fishing, sailing, or hunting for treasure, and he even lives in a house boat (perched in a tree). While Lifty is the more mechanical one and takes care of technical aspects, Shifty is the general planner and more callous one. He has left Lifty for dead on several occasions, even killing him at times.

----
[[folder:In general]]
* AmazingTechnicolorWildlife: Most of the characters have very colorful and varied fur, which such colors wouldn't be on a real-life animal. Mentions a purple beaver, and the first thing that would probably come to one's mind is Toothy from this show.
* AnyoneCanDie: No main character is safe from at least a single CruelAndUnusualDeath. Not even the seemingly impervious Cro-Marmot or the InvincibleHero Splendid have survived every episode (though he's definitely had the least deaths, period).
* TheChewToy: Of course, since they get killed all the time in nearly every episode. Even when there are no deaths in an episode, you can be sure that there will be excruciating pain for them.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: All of them have been subjected to this at least once.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Every character has had at least two episodes focusing on them.
* EyeScream: Nearly every character has suffered from an eye injury at least once.
* FingerlessHands: The majority of them (except Lumpy, Handy, Lammy and Mr. Pickels) have mitten hands, [[SuddenAnatomy although they will occasionally be drawn with]] FourFingeredHands.
* FlatCharacter: Characters such as Petunia, Disco Bear, Mime, [[LivingProp Cro-Marmot]], and Russell, were seen as very [[TheGenericGuy generic]] and having little to no personality. The TV series thankfully attempts to flesh them out more.
* FourFingeredHands: They will [[SuddenAnatomy get these sorts of hands]] every once in a while.
* FurryReminder: Even though they're anthropomorphic, some of the Tree Friends act like real life animals at times. Hell, it even got to the point where the HTF Wiki has compiled [[http://happytreefriends.fandom.com/wiki/Natural_Instincts_and_Traits a list of all the instances where a character has acted like a real animal]]. So far, Cro-Marmot is the only character to not act like a real animal.
* GangOfCritters: A group of animals.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: A very common injury that nearly every character has had in at least some form is being split in half.
* TheHeroDies: The starring character usually dies by the end of the episode.
* KillEmAll: It doesn't happen often, but some episodes will have a large amount of characters and get all of them killed. The most famous examples are "[[Recap/HTFHomeIsWhereTheHurtIs Home Is Where The Hurt Is]]" and "[[Recap/HTFIdolCuriosity Idol Curiosity]]".
** "[[Recap/HTFClassAct Class Act]]" is so far the only episode where all the main characters (minus Lammy and Mr. Pickels, as they haven't made their debut yet) are killed.
* MadeOfPlasticine: The majority of the cast[[note]]Minus [[MadeOfIron Lumpy]], [[BadassAdorable Flippy/Fliqpy]], [[HumanPopsicle Cro-Marmot]], and [[InvincibleHero Splendid]][[/note]] can be [[BloodyHilarious hilariously fragile]] sometimes. Simple injuries like [[Recap/HTFSwelterSkelter falling on the floor will cause your head to crack open]] or a [[Recap/HTFINubYou window falling shut can chop your arms off]].
* MutilationConga: Quite a handful of episodes will have at least one character (usually among the starring ones) gradually accumulate more and more injuries as they become the [[CosmicPlaything most unluckiest being alive]]. Expect that character to suffer a slow and agonizing death. Major episodes that do this are: “Eye Candy”, “The Chokes on You”, “Water Way to Go”, “Brake the Cycle”, “An Inconvenient Tooth”, “Ski Ya, Don’t Wanna Be Ya”, “Can’t Stop Coffin”, “Whose Line is it Anyway?” and all of the “Sniffles vs. The Ant Family” episodes.
* NegativeContinuity: Nobody ever stays dead for more than a single episode.
* OnlySixFaces: Everyone has the same round face with Pac-Man pupils, buckteeth, and heart-shaped noses.
* OutOfFocus: After the TV series ended and the show shifted back to its internet episodes, the likes of Cuddles, Giggles, Petunia, Flaky, Russell, Mime, Disco Bear, and Cro-Marmot were given little to no episodes about them.
* PantslessMalesFullyDressedFemales: Inverted. Flaky lacks clothing, Giggles and Petunia had worn clothes, but normally wear only [[AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal accessories]], and Lammy wears [[FurIsClothing wool]] but [[HalfDressedCartoonAnimal no pants]]. Meanwhile, most male characters usually have at least one piece of clothing, with Russell, Disco Bear, and Lumpy (the latter's case, however, is only noticeable whenever he isn't dressed, since his normal clothes blend with his fur color) wearing [[FullyDressedCartoonAnimal full outfits at best]].
* PieEyed: A good chunk of them have VideoGame/PacMan-esque pupils.
* SuddenAnatomy: They usually have [[FingerlessHands oven mitt]] hands, but they occasionally get FourFingeredHands.
* TheyKilledKennyAgain: Somebody dies at least OnceAnEpisode.
* ThrowTheDogABone: Everyone has survived at least ''one'' episode.
* TooDumbToLive: Characters will often make ''very'' foolish and impulsive actions that will ultimately lead to their deaths. Even the more sensible characters like [[TheSmartGuy Sniffles]] and [[ProperlyParanoid Flaky]] have their bursts of stupidity every now and then.
* TheUnintelligible: They only speak in gibberish. Although, some characters like Lumpy and Flippy have said English words (including swearing) that are distinguishable if you listen closely.
* UniversalAdaptorCast: Everyone has different jobs and occupations in every episode. [[LethallyStupid Lumpy]] and [[BlindMistake The Mole]] (predictably) have had the most amount of jobs out of everyone else.
* VagueAge: Their overall ages seem to vary depending on the episode, except for Cub who is a baby, and Pop, Flippy, and Lumpy who are obviously adults. In some episodes, they go to school, but in others, they are seen driving cars and living alone.

[[folder:Cuddles]]
-->"Caring and sharing is cause for charming cheers!"
-->Voiced by: Kenn Navarro
[[quoteright:270:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cuddles_profile_picture.png]]

A cute yellow rabbit who has pink cheeks and is always wearing pink bunny slippers. Cuddles is the main character of the series more so than anyone else, and is one of the four "original" Tree Friends. Despite his cute nature, he has been shown to be a bit of a rebellious Tree Friend who enjoys skateboarding, snowball fights, and daredevil acts. He was the second Tree Friend created (Shifty was the first Tree Friend created), appears in most advertisements, and to date holds the highest death count in the series, alongside Lumpy.
----
* AndIMustScream: "Can't Stop Coffin'" just can't give poor Cuddles a break. His screaming inside of the titular coffin is drowned out by multitudes of distractions and loud noises. This leads to him clawing his fingers to the bone trying to scratch his way out, almost burning to death before being "saved" by water entering the coffin and proceeding to almost ''drown'' him, to being saved from that by a ''car breaking through the coffin and having one of its wheels grind down on his face'', all while being unable to do anything about it. This doesn't even kill him, as at the very end of the episode he tries to crawl away from the coffin after it opens, moaning in pain before the aforementioned car ends up crushing him to death.
* BigGuyLittleGuy: He's often paired with Lumpy, more so than any other character, and their size differences are very noticeable.
* BlushSticker: They are always seen on his face.
* BullyingADragon: Obviously, Cuddles did not heed the line "[[Advertising/DumbWaysToDie Poke a stick at a grizzly bear]]" when he poked a stick at a rhino and later a baboon in ''From A to Zoo''.
* BunniesForCuteness: He's a rabbit, and an adorable one too.
* BuriedAlive: In "Can't Stop Coffin'". He doesn't stay alive for long, however.
* ButtMonkey: Besides Handy, he has the highest death rate out of all the characters. He has also yet to survive a regular starring episode on his own, along with Lifty and Shifty.
* CrazyJealousGuy: He gets really upset in "[=YouTube=] Subscriptions: 101" when he thought Giggles was dating Disco Bear.
* TheCutie: Is portrayed as the innocent rabbit who just wants to have some fun.
* DreadfulMusician: As seen in "In a Jam", where he auditions to be a bass player for his favorite band, and... it didn't sound pretty.
* DumbBlonde: He has a yellow tuft of hair and often makes very stupid mistakes because he loves fun more than his own safety.
* ExpressiveEars: His ears droop when he's upset.
* ExtremeDoormat: He is very gullible, and certain antagonists, such as Fliqpy, Lifty, or Shifty take advantage of his friendly nature. For example, in "Junk In The Trunk", he inadvertently helps Lifty and Shifty in their scheme to snatch up the local pets that resulting in both his own pet getting stolen and his untimely death.
* FurryReminder: In his smoochie, ''Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow'' and ''A Bit of Pickle'', he seems to enjoy carrots. In real life, rabbits will eat carrots.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Has yellow fur and is very friendly.
* HeliumSpeech: In "From A to Zoo". Later on, his [[EyeScream eye]] is impaled on the nozzle and his screams become higher and higher in pitch before he finally dies.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Like Giggles and Petunia, Cuddles and Toothy are best buds. They are the most common pairing of the series, and their relationship is the most complex.
* InformedAbility: The Collect Them All states that Cuddles has a Master's Degree in karate. However, Cuddles is barely able to hold his own against Fliqpy.
* InterspeciesRomance: He's together with Giggles in most episodes, who's a chipmunk.
* IronicName: His name is "Cuddles", but he's actually a daredevil who's quite fond of risky hobbies, and being naturally mischievous to boot.
* ItsAllAboutMe: He can be self-centered at times and he often ignores the wants of others for his own.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Cuddles can be a little self-centered and inconsiderate sometimes, such as pushing Flaky down a water slide against her will and accidentally causing her death. But otherwise, he's very kind toward others.
* {{Keet}}: Very outgoing.
* TheLeader: Plays this role the most out of all characters, with Lumpy coming in second.
* TheOneWhoWearsShoes: He's one of the few exceptions who actually uses any type of footwear.
* OnlySaneMan: The ''very rare'' chance that Flaky isn't playing this role, it's him. He'll be more observant and less TooDumbToLive if the plot demands it.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: Inverted -- he's a boy but his favorite color is pink.
* ThePrankster: In "From A to Zoo", Cuddles causes some mischief and pranks the animals. Surprisingly though, he's the only character with a death in the episode who isn't killed by any of the animals.
* PrecisionFStrike: In "In a Jam", he can be heard saying a muffled "fuck" when The Mole injects cotton into him.
* RealMenWearPink: He is pretty manly, but he loves the color pink and always wears pink bunny slippers.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: He has a somewhat high-pitched voice in general, but it's especially obvious when he screams.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The Manly Man to Toothy's Sensitive Guy. Cuddles is impulsive, outgoing and adventurous, while Toothy is somewhat more shy.
* SeriesMascot: Cuddles is most prominently used to advertise the show. He usually appears solo in promotional art.
* StalkerWithACrush: In "[=YouTube=] Subscriptions: 101" he apparently stalks Giggles over the internet.
* TooDumbToLive: In "Water You Wading For", when he jumps in a waterhole that has a no-swim sign. Of course, it's possible that he just didn't see the sign.
** In "From A to Zoo", he pokes a rhino with a stick, then does the same thing to a baboon.
** In "Dunce Upon a Time", the first place he hides is in a ''pepper grinder.''
* ThrowTheDogABone: Outside the mainline series, where he dies in every single one of his starring roles, here's actually a handful of starring episodes where Cuddles both survives and absolutely no gore takes place. Take "Deck The Halls", "We Wish You", and [=YouTube=] 101: Subscriptions.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Carrots. Even if it made him choke.
* TurbineBlender: In "Spin Fun Knowing Ya", and again in "Blast from the Past". And while it isn't a literal turbine this time around, he suffers a similar fate in "Party Animal".
* {{Yandere}}: He is one to Giggles, if "[=YouTube=] 101: Subscriptions" is anything to go by, wherein he was furious when he thought Giggles dated Disco Bear. In that same episode, Cuddles is shown to stalk Giggles.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Giggles]]
-->Voiced by: Dana Belben (1999-2003), Ellen Connell (2003-2009), Lori Jee (2009-present), Nica Lorber ("Letter Late Than Never")
[[quoteright:275:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/giggles_profile.png]]

A friendly pink chipmunk who wears a red hair bow. Giggles is one of the four "original" Tree Friends and is most often played as a girly girl, along with Petunia (with whom she is best friends). She also cares strongly for the environment, and will lose her cute nature when she sees someone littering or polluting. Despite being the one most often paired with other Tree Friends for Valentine's Day episodes, she and Cuddles are seen as the "default pairing" of the series.
----
* AfraidOfBlood: A RunningGag on the show is how often Giggles gets splattered by blood. This is usually followed up by her screaming in terror.
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: She's a [[InexplicablyTailless tailless chipmunk]][[note]]Kenn Navarro confirmed Giggles actually does have a tail, but it isn't visible because it's very small.[[/note]].
* BerserkButton: Anything that harms the environment.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: In "Every Litter Bit Hurts", she ties herself and Sniffles (without his consent) to a tree to keep Lumpy from cutting it down. Her reaction to Sniffles dying as a result is to jump in front of Lumpy's truck so that he's forced to swerve out of the way.
* TheChick: Sometimes portrayed as a girly girl that everyone has a crush on.
* TheCutie: An adorable little chipmunk who has a sweet and caring personality... as long as no one harms the enviorment.
* DamselInDistress: On occasion, she'll play this role. In "Better Off Bread", where Splendid has to save her when she falls off a cliff and "See You Later, Elevator", where fireman Lumpy rescues her from a building fire.
* DemotedToExtra: While Cuddles, Toothy, and Lumpy all managed to at least obtain their own episodes after the TV series was over, Giggles is completely devoid of episodes with her as the starring character in Seasons 3, 4 and 5 in-spite of the fact that she is one of four central characters and her role has been regulated as a supporting character in most episodes in that era, with the closest episode she remain throughout the story in a prominent role without dying is "See You Later, Elevator". She [[ChuckCunninghamSyndrome outright disappears]] in Season 5 (not counting the "Blood Donor" short).
* FriendToAllLivingThings: She tends to have some positive interactions with animals, more often than any other character. Examples include her pet cat and other non-sapient creatures.
* GranolaGirl: In "Every Litter Bit Hurts", she is shown to care about the environment greatly. Harming the environment is a BerserkButton for her.
* GroinAttack: In "Home is Where the Hurt Is", she slides down a staircase full of nails with the sharp ends sticking out. Yeah.
* IAteWhat: In "Eyes Cold Lemonade", when Petunia gets killed by a falling sign and her eye is knocked out, Giggles (who can't see due to her entire head being wrapped in bandages) mistakes the eye for a lemon, slices and juices it, and tastes a sip of the bloody drink. She grimaces at the taste and decides it needs more sugar.
* InformedSpecies: Aside from her head marking, she doesn't have any characteristics of a chipmunk and may get mistaken for a bear due to her lack of a tail.
* InterspeciesRomance:
** She's together with Cuddles in most episodes, who's a rabbit.
** She has gone out with half of the male cast, which include Mole (who's a [[ADogNamedDog mole]]), Russell (a sea otter), Cro-Marmot (a [[HumanPopsicle frozen]] [[ADogNamedDog marmot]]) and Flippy (a bear). She once also swooned over Lumpy, who's a moose.
* LoveInterest: For lot of the characters, but to Cuddles in particular, as they serve as ''the'' show's couple if Giggles wasn't filling the role of a stock girlfriend for a different character.
* NeverBareheaded: Never seen without her bow.
* NiceGirl: She's a sweetheart as long as you don't provoke her.
* PetTheDog: Giggles is usually extremely abrasive towards Disco Bear. However, in "[[Recap/HTFChangeOfHeart A Change of Heart]]", she nearly dies of exhaustion making sure Disco Bear stays alive in the operating room.
* PinkMeansFeminine: Very girly and has pink fur.
* ReallyGetsAround: She's dated several characters in the show, such as Cuddles, Russell and Flippy.
* RedIsHeroic: Wears a red bow and is one of the nicest characters.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Downplayed. While she does have characterization, her role in the show is little else but "be either Cuddles/Flippy/Russell or Cro-Marmot's girlfriend".
* SilentSnarker: Shows disgust when Disco Bear flirts with her.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Is an OfficialCouple with [[HairofGoldHeartofGold Cuddles]], who is normally very friendly and kind towards the other characters. Also with [[BearyFriendly Flippy]] who who's social, friendly and polite.
* TertiarySexualCharacteristics: She has long eyelashes, [[PinkGirlBlueBoy pink fur]], and wears a bow on her head.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The girly girl to Flaky's tomboy. She likes tea parties and playing with dolls, but Flaky lacks feminine traits and isn't into the stuff Giggles is into.
* TorsoWithAView: "Every Litter Bit Hurts" ends with The Mole stabbing her in the heart, leaving a hole in her.
* TurbineBlender: Giggles is sliced up by a plane when the parachute she's riding flies into its propellers in "Wingin' It".
* WomanOnFire: A lot of her deaths involves heat.
** In "Who's To Flame", this frequent occurance reaches its epitome, as the poor chipmunk is caught on fire along with Petunia and the catastrophe esculated into the entire town blowing up to smithereens.

[[folder:Toothy]]
-->"Using a toothbrush is tantamount for twinkling teeth."
-->Voiced by: Warren Graff, Kenn Navarro ("Keepin' It Reel")
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/toothys_profile.png]]

An [[ButtMonkey unlucky]] purple beaver named for his [[MeaningfulName large, gapped buckteeth]]. Toothy is one of the four "original" Tree Friends and is most often played as the everyman. The creators of the show feel he doesn't have enough of a personality, and plan to bring him out of his shell in later episodes. His trademark injuries have to do with his eyes, mostly as shout outs to his most famous episode, "Eye Candy".
----
* AssShove: Gets the seat post of his bicycle impaled in his butt in "Break the Cycle".
* BreakTheCutie: That's probably the point of his character. His misery, combined with his cute appearance, provides one of the bigger example of the show.
* ButtMonkey: Most of the time, thanks to his many painful eye injuries and low survival rate.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Toothy was more generic and smarter than his more impulsive, work-dedicated, cowardly, and mischievous portrayal in later seasons.
* ChildishToothGap: Is the only character with a gap between his teeth, a feature even Handy is in deficiency of.
* TheCutie: Like Cuddles, he serves as one of most memorable and adorable (but brutally maimed) protagonists.
* DependingOnTheWriter: Like Cuddles, his personality can be swapped around because of his generic character:
** He could be just as mischievous as Cuddles or serve as TheStraightMan to his antics.
** He can either have the worst luck in the designated episode or he can make it out unscathed, relatively speaking of course and that role could be given to someone else.
* DepravedDentist: To Nutty in "Nuttin' But the Tooth". He injects Novocain into Nutty's mouth improperly, drills a hole in the back of Nutty's throat and into the headrest of the chair, and rips Nutty's lower jaw from his head by tying a string from his tooth to a door that he slams shut.
* DivergentCharacterEvolution: The creators eventually made do with their statement and expanded his character in the later half of the series. He is shown to have interests in gardening and handy work as seen in "An Inconvenient Toothy" and "Brake the Cycle" and can be rather mischevious (though not to the same level as other characters) such as when he kept throwing snowballs at Giggles during her dates in "Cold-Hearted".
* TheEveryman: Has barely any character traits besides his [[ButtMonkey haplessness]]. Made apparent by his roles being very inconsequential in most episodes.
* EyeScream: A RunningGag in the show has Toothy constantly suffering from eye injuries.
** Most famously in "[[Recap/HTFEyeCandy Eye Candy]]", where he accidentally jams a lollipop into his eye socket.
** In "[[Recap/HTFKeepinItReel Keepin' it Reel]]", he gets a projector stuck through his skull, poking out his eye and burning his brain.
** In "[[Recap/HTFChewSaidAMouthful Chew Said a Mouthful]]", he's [[NoodleIncident already in the hospital after somehow losing his eyeball]].
** In "[[Recap/HTFIdolCuriosity Idol Curiosity]]", he is stabbed in the eye by his drink's umbrella and pulls his eye out.
** In "[[Recap/HTFSightForSoreEyes A Sight for Sore Eyes]]", he has his eyes cut horizontally by Sniffles' robotic airplane.
** In "[[Recap/HTFCarpalTunnelOfLove The Carpal Tunnel of Love]]', he gets a bee sting to the eye. Later his infected eye is ripped out of his head after Lumpy slams a door on him by accident.
** In the aptly titled "[[Recap/HTFCampPokeneyeout Camp Pokeneyeout]]", he's hit in the eye with a rock by Cuddles' slingshot.
* {{Fanboy}}: Certain episodes shows that he likes Splendid, moreso than the rest of the cast.
* TheGenericGuy: He has a very generic appearance, with only his two buck-teeth, freckles, and large tail seperating him from a Generic Tree Friend. His roles in the episodes themselves are as a simple filler character. His own episodes wouldn't change if another character replaced his own role, such as Cuddles in "Break The Cycle" or Nutty in "Eye Candy".
* {{Flanderization}}: Toothy's impulsive side and mischievous nature became more played out over the years. He was simply Cuddles' right hand man and his actions would seem understandable, if not purely reactional. However, as the series went on, Toothy eventually started engaging in his own shenanigans without Cuddles' help.
* HiddenDepths:
** As revealed in "Read 'em and Weep" he apparently owned the [[TomeOfEldritchLore Necronomicon]] before selling it to Pop.
** He shows interest in gardening in the episode "An Inconvenient Tooth"
* OnlySaneMan: The very rare chance that Flaky (and Cuddles, sometimes) isn't playing this role, it'll be Toothy. He's usually calmer than the other characters.
* OutOfFocus: In the TV Series. He gets the embarrassing merit of being the only main character ''who has never starred in a TV episode'' ("Autopsy Turvy" doesn't count, due to his role being a fake-out), even the likes of Cuddles, Petunia, and ''[[LivingProp Cro-Marmot]]'', had at least ''one episode'' focusing on them. This is thankfully averted later on in seasons three and four.
* ProneToTears: Toothy cries the most out of all the main characters.
* ReducedToDust: As if suffering from several [[EyeScream eye injuries]] wasn't enough, Toothy has also died from being disintegrated several times.
** In "[[Recap/HTFStealingTheSpotlight Stealing the Spotlight]]", he immediatly explodes into dust after being exposed to the [[MakesSenseInContext extreme heat of Lumpy's christmas lights]].
** In "[[Recap/HTFMimeToFive Mime to Five]]", Toothy crashes into a pole while on fire, turning his whole body into ashes on impact.
** In "[[Recap/HTFSeeWhatDevelops See What Develops]]", Toothy is vaporized by the backlash of Splendid's sonic boom.
** In "[[Recap/HTFEasyCombEasyGo Easy Comb, Easy Go]]", Toothy is disintegrated by the sun when Disco Bear's hair dryer makes a hole in the ozone layer.
* SatelliteCharacter: Usually either acts as a sideman to Cuddles or a ButtMonkey to someone else.
* ScaryStingingSwarm: So far, he's been attacked by bees a total of three times, twice of which resulted in a [[EyeScream bee sting to the eye.]]
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The Sensitive Guy to Cuddles' Manly Man. Cuddles is sports-oriented and energetic, but Toothy is somewhat shy.
* ShrinkingViolet: Toothy's quite shy and his crying, lack of proper social skills, and worrisome demeanor is the closest thing to defining his character.
* TheToothHurts:
** The entirety of "An Inconvenient Tooth" is all about Toothy's teeth overgrowing and him struggling to wear them off.
** Breaks a tooth and exposes the nerve after biting on a bean can in "Snow Place To Go".
* ThirdWheel: Seeing how he's best friends with Cuddles and Giggles, a common couple within the show, it's safe to assume that he probably falls under this trope.
* ATragedyOfImpulsiveness: While a little more cautious than other Friends like Cuddles, Toothy tends to be incredibly impulsive at times, often acting without even thinking twice - usually leading to at least one other person's death. Or his own.
** He tried to remove a cavity out of Nutty's teeth despite having no actual knowledge or skill in dentistry.
** He dumped several barrels of gun powder into a cannon, killing himself ''and'' Cuddles.
** He tried riding his new DIY bike despite knowing that he's missing a part to it.
** He once threw his fireman's axe at a door during a house fire and ended up killing Petunia, who was behind the door.
* UnluckyEverydude: Has a poor survival rate and is also TheEveryman.
* YouthfulFreckles

[[folder:Lumpy]]
-->"For a lazy lunch, try leftover loaf!"
-->Voiced by: Rhode Montijo (1999-2005), David Winn (2005-present)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lumpy_htf.png]]

A dumb blue moose whose lack of common sense often lands himself and others into trouble while driving the plot for many episodes. Lumpy is one of the four "original" Tree Friends and to date has the official highest kill count and starring count in the series. Despite his stupidity, he often holds high ranking jobs (such as a doctor), and is sometimes placed with the care of the smaller Tree Friends. He shows signs of greed as well, as visited in several episodes.
----
* ActionSurvivor: You'd be surprised on how many risky situations Lumpy managed to survive. For example, he survived the arctic tundra in "Snow Place to Go" and managed to (off-screen) find civilization again. In "Remains to Be Seen", he gets through a zombie epidemic and a zombie Fliqpy encounter. In "By the Seat of Your Pants" he manages to kill Fliqpy. In "See You Later, Elevator" he navigates his way through a burning building, twice. And in "Read 'em and Weep", he's capable of subduing the demon taking control of Cub (pus it's heavily implied that Lumpy has much better control over the demon when he gets possessed).
* AdultsAreUseless: Lumpy is one of the few characters who's never portrayed as a child when the plot requires it, but that doesn't make him any more competent or responsible.
* AnimalsHateHim: You won’t believe how many times Lumpy has gotten mauled or killed by an animal. He has been killed by dogs, a grizzly bear, vultures, a snapping turtle, ducks, a baboon, and a flock of birds.
* AntiHero: [[PragmaticHero Type III]] or [[UnscrupulousHero IV]].
* AntiRoleModel: Who wants to follow in his footsteps? A few episodes have him doing obviously dumb things while the protagonist goes out of their way to do the opposite. Examples includes Every Litter Bit Hurts and Wingin' It.
* AscendedExtra: While Lumpy was already one of the major characters before, his role has gotten large enough to overshadow several other characters. Taken UpToEleven in the TV Series where he ''appears in every episode'' with the exception of two[[note]]Being "And The Kitchen Sink" and "Easy For You to Sleigh"[[/note]] and stars in maybe less than half of the episodes[[note]] Sixteen of the thirty nine episodes[[/note]]. One can even argue that he is ''the'' main character of the show, as he has the most screen time and development than anyone else.
* AssholeVictim:
** In "Wingin It", [[DirtyCoward he takes all the parachutes.]] It comes back to bite him in the ass when he dies.
** In "Every Litter Bit Hurts", he's a nuisance to the environment and ends up getting several characters killed. Later on he crashes his truck into a dam which explodes and causes a flood, then gets stuck and ends up getting ripped in half by a tree stump.
** In "Mime to Five", he's depicted as a greedy circus owner who not only exploits his new employee Mime, but also abuses his animals by whipping them. He ends up getting eaten by his killer ducks.
** In "We're Scrooged!", he kills Toothy to sell his body parts and organs for money, but later gets crushed to death by a shelf.
* AxCrazy: In the {{pilot}} episode, he kills Giggles, Cuddles, and Toothy just because they ''[[DisproportionateRetribution laughed at him]]''.
* BabysitterFromHell: Whenever the Tree Friends are under his care, expect to them to come out either dead or at the ''very'' least, heavily mutilated.
* BigBrotherInstinct: When the smaller Tree Friends are in his care, he'll go to great lengths to try and protect them -- even if he usually winds up killing them or himself in the process.
* BigEater: Lumpy is known for eating lots of foods. Sandwiches and meats are his particular favorites.
* TheBigGuy: He is the tallest of the Tree Friends.
* BlueIsHeroic: Lumpy is a blue and well-intended moose.
* BodyPocket: Lumpy apparently has chest pockets in his fur. Of course, certain episodes explain this away, where he is shown to actually wear a shirt and pants that are the same color as his fur.
* BornLucky: DependingOnTheWriter. Lumpy is somehow both this ''and'' BornUnlucky. He sometimes survives deadly situations or even become the SoleSurvivor of the episode through sheer luck -- other times he ends up having some of the absolute ''worst'' injuries and deaths the show has to offer.
* ButtMonkey: Lumpy's deaths are slower and more painful than others due to his strength and size. And while he has a high survival rate, he shares the highest amount of deaths with Cuddles. In addition, even when he survives an episode, the moments where he doesn't suffer at least one bloody, siginificant, or painful injury in an episode is very rare.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Despite being a total LethalKlutz and TheDitz, he can actually do a relatively competent job at it whenever he has an occupation.
* CatchPhrase: "Mm-hmm!"
* CharacterDevelopment: Lumpy became slightly less dumb in the TV series and is instead more of a [[TheKlutz clumsy]] [[TheEveryman Everyman]].
* TheChewToy: Despite the trope applying to every character, Lumpy, besides Sniffles, Handy, and Toothy, seems to get the short end of the stick most often. This is probably because of how often he appears plus the fact that he's TooDumbToLive.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass:
** Lumpy and Fliqpy have fought two times in the series and in both of them, '''Lumpy actually wins!'''
** He takes down a squid the size of a small house with a mouse trap.
** "Wipe Out" reveals he's a pro surfer, even managing to juggle chainsaws while hanging ten.
** He climbs a rope with a freshly paralyzed back in "Take a Hike", and the rescue he (almost) pulls off at the end of "The Wrong Side of the Tracks" also counts.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Along with Sniffles, he suffers some of the worst deaths. "Just Desert" has his antlers get sliced off, his mouth bloody from having sand stuffed into it, his body torn apart by vultures, and finally disintegrated to bones from a dust devil.
* DependingOnTheWriter:
** His personality. He's either a NiceGuy, a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, a {{Jerkass}}, or even a VillainProtagonist.
** How intelligent he is. Lumpy might show a smidgen of common sense, be dumber than a door nail, or even ''own'' the SmartBall in really rare cases.
** Lumpy's portrayal as a character who is just as capable as dying or attaining injuries. Some episodes would have him survive dangerous situations, while others would make him suffer for most of the episode.
* DirtyCoward: In "Wingin' It", Lumpy uses many electronic devices in a passenger jet in flight, disrupting its navigational systems. When the plane starts to malfunction, Lumpy kicks out the plane's door, sucking several characters to their inevitable deaths, and takes ''all'' of the parachutes for himself, forgetting to properly put on even one.
* TheDitz: Lumpy's stupidity is the driving force behind the plots of many episodes.
* {{Expy}}:
** Of [[WesternAnimation/RockyAndBullwinkle Bullwinkle]], to the point that the creators had to invert the direction of his antlers to keep him from looking ''too'' much like Bullwinkle.
** He's also similar to WesternAnimation/{{Goofy}}, especially his SimpletonVoice.
* FriendToAllChildren: When the characters are portrayed as children, he often plays with this trope.
* TheFool: As clumsy this moose may be, he's certainly one of the more lucky characters, as he survived the most episodes, technically speaking at least.
* FurIsClothing: As seen in episodes like "You're Bakin' Me Crazy", Lumpy actually wears a normal outfit that blends in with his blue fur color. Without it, his nipples and genitals (which are unseen by the viewer for obvious reasonns) are visible.
* GeniusDitz: Despite being the dumbest Happy Tree Friend in the show, he also ironically displays the most common sense. He actually has good planning skills, can perform a job competently when he needs to, and in ''very'' rare instances, be the OnlySaneMan of a situation when all the other Tree Friends prove to be bigger [[TheDitz fools]] than him.
** He's one of the few characters to be aware of The Mole's blindness and Flippy's PTSD. He is also the only one to actively do something about it. He gave The Mole a seeing-eye dog and taught Flippy solid coping methods for his episodes, which only stopped working because of serious contrivances that pushed them to their limit.
** Despite having the highest kill count in the series due to his [[LethallyStupid lethal stupiditiy]] he is routinely shown to be rather competent in jobs that involve health. Jobs where he was a doctor, surgeon, an optometrist, and even a ''therapist'' show that he is not always ''that'' dumb.
** In the episode "In Over Your Hedge," he made a motor-powered hedge trimmer in less than a minute.
* GentleGiant: The tallest Tree Friend and usually pretty kind.
* {{Greed}}: Lumpy has been this on a few occasions, especially in We're Scrooged.
* TheHero: He plays this role more often than any other character, managing to actually save the day without getting himself killed and creating some of the show's surprisingly wholesome endings.
* HeroicSacrifice: In "[[Recap/HTFBloodDonor Blood Donor]]", where he donates all of his blood to Giggles, saving her from flatlining at the hospital -- [[TheyKilledKennyAgain at the cost of his own life]].
* IdiotHoudini: Several episodes have him being the accidental sole cause of the carnage that ensues but his luck tends to keep him alive. Most famously in "Aw, Shucks!", where Lumpy is the cause of sixteen deaths - excluding his.
** That being said, there have been a lot of aversions too. Such as in "We're Scrooged", where he suffers a KarmicDeath after his {{Greed}} gets the better of him.
* JackassGenie: Unintentionally in "As You Wish", wherein he was a genie, but his attempts at granting wishes killed everyone.
* JackOfAllTrades: This dimwitted moose has a lot of occupations and managed to achieve many things.
* JerkassToOne: While everyone of the protagonists has been a fallen victim to Lumpy's villainous portrayals, Mime appears to be a casualty of Lumpy's schemes more often. Same with Toothy, as the two would share some sort of rivarly, despite the two Tree Friends being on friendly terms with each other.
* KarmicDeath: A large portion of Lumpy's deaths relate to him doing something thoughtless, usually while on the job.
** In "Concrete Solution", Lumpy hides the fact he accidentally killed Handy by hiding him in the cement they were pouring. Later he's crushed by the block of cement with Handy's corpse pressed inside it.
* KindheartedSimpleton: Whenever he's not an antagonist or a LethalKlutz, he's kind-hearted and has on several occasions his life on the line to help others.
* TheKlutz: Lumpy's clumsiness is a defining trait of his.
* LackOfEmpathy: Zig-zagged. Lumpy usually means well, but there are times where he has acted selfishly or intentionally ignored another character's death.
* LazyBum: Spends a lot of his time relaxing while in very busy situations.
* LethalKlutz: His stupidity has caused so many deaths that he has an official kill count that's higher than that of even ''Evil Flippy/Fliqpy.'' In fact, he hold the highest official kill count in the series... mostly due to his stupidity.
* LethallyStupid: TropeCodifier. His stupidity caused many deaths. The creators said the reason Lumpy has so many different jobs is because his incompetence causes havoc wherever he goes, and gives different situations.
* LifeOrLimbDecision: In "Out on a Limb", he is forced to cut his leg off with a spoon. Unfortunately for him, he cuts off the wrong leg, so he has to do it all over again.
* LiteralGenie: In "As You Wish", where he plays a genie in a (table) lamp. His wishes cause grave injuries or death to the other characters.
* MadeOfIron: Despite being the most unintelligent Tree Friend in the cast, he is the one who survives the most -- a more common occurrence is [[LethallyStupid "Too Dumb For Those Around Him To Live"]]. It seems to have a reason -- he is the tallest and probably strongest of the cast excluding Splendid, so in the times he doesn't die immediately, he gets injured. In the TV season, he has survived falling off a highway overpass onto the road below and then getting run over by Lifty and Shifty's van ("Concrete Solution"), and getting hit head-on by a truck and being entangled in a bicycle ("A Change of Heart").
* {{Manchild}}: Frequently engages in childish activities with the rest of the cast.
* TheMillstone: His dumbness is what usually jumpstarts a plot.
* MooseAreIdiots: Lumpy is perhaps the TropeCodifier. He's so dumb he usually gets everyone else around him killed.
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: Flashes Giggles on two separate occasions.
* NewJobAsThePlotDemands: Ranging from surgeon to plumber, Lumpy sticks out for the multitude of different jobs he has held (the wiki lists over ''50'' of them).
* NiceGuy: In most of his appearances, he's usually a well-intentioned guy.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Not only does Lumpy tower over the other Tree Friends, he also lacks the round faces that every other character has. He looks the most like the animal he is compared to the other Tree Friends. He is also one of the few characters (along with Sniffles) who does not have a heart-shaped nose.
* OddFriendship: With [[{{Pirate}} Russell]] the sea otter, mostly in the earlier seasons. Shown in "Sea What I Found", where he and Russell go fishing and later treasure hunting together, in "Get Whale Soon", where they both get stranded inside a whale and where Lumpy's death was [[SanitySlippage enough to push Russell over the edge]], and "In a Jam", where they make a band along with Handy and when Russell dies, Cuddles is made to be his replacement due to Cuddles' lost eye reminding Lumpy of Russell.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: He plays the [[VillainProtagonist villain]] in "We're Scrooged!", killing Toothy in order to sell his body parts for profit. In the TV episode "Dunce Upon a Time", which is a WholePlotReference to ''Literature/JackAndTheBeanstalk'', Lumpy takes on the role of the lumbering giant of the castle in the sky, killing the other characters to make his meal and when they try to escape.
** There are times when Lumpy has [[SmartBall bursts of intelligence]], which goes against his usual TheDitz portrayals.
*** In "Doggone It", he was the only one to realize the reason for [[KillerRabbit Whistle's]] attacks, even if it took a while for him to figure it out).
*** In "A Sight for Sore Eyes", he realized the danger The Mole's blindness poses to everyone and gave him a guide dog to replace his cane.
*** In "We're Scrooged!", he quickly managed to make a paddle with his own eye to prevent Sniffles from leaving the shop.
*** So far he is the only one to be aware of what causes Flippy's PTSD, since in "Without a Hitch" and "Random Acts of Silence", several characters who appear to be aware of Flippy's PTSD thought that he could flip out randomly, while in "Double Whammy Part 1" Lumpy figured out the cause of his problem and attempted to cure it.
*** He managed to finish the bridge in "Concrete Solution" despite all his coworkers being dead.
*** In "A Change of Heart", he saved Disco Bear's life by giving him a heart transplant...with an ''orca's heart''.
* PapaWolf: He'll come to the rescue for his fellow Tree Friends.
* ParentalSubstitute: He would babysit or take care of the Tree Friends and is given the responsiblity for them.
* PrecisionFStrike: He has a tendency to say "What the hell?" when something goes wrong, except for in "Doggone It", where it's this.
* RunningGag: A lot of his deaths involve getting eaten by vicious and/or wild animals. He tends to fall from great heights as well.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: Lumpy speaks with a deep voice, but in his death throes he has a high-pitched scream.
* SilentSnarker: He is quite prone to pulling off annoyed expressions in reaction to others' incompetence.
* SimpletonVoice
* SlashedThroat: Accidentally gives himself one in "The Way You Make Me Wheel" while trying to shave and drive a car at the same time.
* StrongAsTheyNeedToBe: How much damage he can take heavily varies. For example, he survived a very high fall from an airplane in "Winging' It" but dies when he falls off of a tree that The Mole could easily climb in "All Flocked Up".
* SmartBall:
** How Lumpy defeats Evil Flippy and the zombies in "Remains to be Seen".
** He also managed to outsmart Fliqpy again in the episode "By The Seat of Your Pants"
* SoleSurvivor: Lumpy tends to be the only survivor of many episodes, mainly due to his dumb luck. This includes: "[[Recap/HTFSpinFunKnowinYa Spin Fun Knowin' Ya]]", "[[Recap/HTFWheelinAndDealin Wheelin' and Dealin']]", "[[Recap/HTFYoureBakinMeCrazy You're Bakin' Me Crazy]]", "[[Recap/HTFJumpingTheShark Jumping The Shark]]", "[[Recap/HTFRemainsToBeSeen Remains to be Seen]]", "[[Recap/HTFPeasInAPod Peas in a Pod]]", "[[Recap/HTFWithoutAHitch Without A Hitch]]", "[[Recap/HTFSeeYouLaterElevator See You Later, Elevator]]", "[[Recap/HTFAllWorkAndNoPlay All Work and No Play]]", "[[Recap/HTFSnowPlaceToGo Snow Place to Go]]", "[[Recap/HTFAwShucks Aw, Shucks!]]", "[[Recap/HTFJunkInTheTrunk Junk in the Trunk]]", "[[Recap/HTFSkiPatrol Ski Patrol]]", "[[Recap/HTFKringles Ski Kringle]]", and "[[Recap/HTFKringles Strain Kringle]]".
* TeamDad: Lumpy is the closest thing for an actual parent of the younger characters.
* TooDumbToLive: Seeing how his primary trait is his stupidity and this series is all about gruesome accidents, this is a given. His idiocy frequently proves fatal to both himself and others.
* TemporarilyAVillain:
** In "Dunce Upon a Time", where he is a giant who eats people.
** In "We're Scrooged", he lets Toothy die so he can sell his body parts.
** In "All in Vein", as a vampire that sucks the blood of other Tree Friends.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: He seems to like sandwiches a lot.
* WeirdnessMagnet: Lumpy tends to be in the middle of the weirdest situations the show has to offer, as demonstrated by the amount of strange, dangerous, and often supernatural antagonists Lumpy has faced off such as: [[Recap/HTFLetterLateThanNever man-eating turtles]], [[Recap/HTFRemainsToBeSeen zombies]], [[Recap/HTFReadEmAndWeep Lovecraftian demons]], [[Recap/HTFYoureKrakenMeUp a massive head-stealing kraken]], [[Recap/HTFPeasInAPod invincible alien clones of himself]], [[Recap/HTFTakeAHike giant bears]], [[Recap/HTFAViciousCycle haunted tricycles]], [[Recap/HTFDoggoneIt Whistles the Killer Dog]], and a [[Recap/HTFAwShucks very persistent crow]].
* UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist: Lumpy is a clumsy, dim-witted, and occasionally selfish moose. He is completely ignorant to his environment and his villainous portrayal would range from being a {{Jerkass}}, to a full blown evil character.

[[folder:Petunia]]
-->"Plant plenty of pretty, perfumed, purple and pink flowers!"
-->Voiced by: Dana Belben (1999-2003), Ellen Connell (2004-2009), Lori Jee (2009-present), Sarah Castelblanco ("Remains To Be Seen"), Nica Lorber ("A Bit Of A Pickle")
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/petuniaprofilepictureimage.png]]

A sweet but mysophobic blue skunk who wears a flower on her head and a pine tree car freshener around her neck. Petunia suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and is quite a neat freak. She's best friends with Giggles and they can be seen hanging out with each other, having tea parties, playing with dolls, etc. She tends to suffer some of the messier deaths in the series, like having her face pressed to a grill or getting pulled through a sink. For a long time, she was the only character not to have killed another Tree Friend - until she started a cooking fire in "Who's to Flame?"
----
* AsideGlance: She looks at the camera angrily after failing to grab a bowling ball in "I Nub You", much like her boyfriend Handy often does.
* BringMyBrownPants: Because of a cherry drink, she completely lets loose when she and Lumpy [[OhCrap realize that the bus they were in was heading towards a cliff]] in "Happy Trails Part 1".
* BlueIsHeroic: A blue skunk who is one of the main protagonists.
* ButtMonkey: Even by the standards of this series, her deaths can be pretty brutal. She's also only survived a single starring role throughout the entire series (House Warming), and even then it ends with her being reduced to a barely-alive pile of burnt mush.
* DistressedDamsel: Less than Giggles, but still falls into this on occasion. Such as in "Dunce Upon a Time", where she is imprisoned by Lumpy the Giant and in "Gems the Breaks" where she along with Giggles, are tied up by Lifty and Shifty.
* DivergentCharacterEvolution: At first, she started out as a PaletteSwap of Giggles, with the exception of her design. She would later grow into the extreme NeatFreak she is now.
* DrivenToSuicide: In "Wishy Washy", [[{{Squick}} she peels her skin off with a]] [[{{Squick}} potato peeler]]. Technically she was trying to [[SanitySlippage scrub the sewage off her body at the time]], but still. This also marks the only suicide so far in the entire series.
* FlatCharacter: Before becoming a NeatFreak in the TV series, Petunia, as mentioned, was just Giggles but as a skunk.
* FurryReminder: In ''Blind Date'', when Disco Bear was fliritng with her, she responds by spraying him with her skunk spray (though it could've been mace since his eyes were red but considering she's a skunk...)
** She's also seen holding grapes in ''Camp Pokeneyeout'', which is something skunks eat in real life when they forage for food.
* HeroesWantRedheads: Becomes an {{OfficialCouple}} with Handy, who's an orange beaver.
* InterspeciesRomance: At first with Mime, who's a deer, but then with Handy, who's a beaver.
* NeatFreak: She panics at the mere sight of dirt and filth.
* NiceGirl: Usually very friendly towards the other characters.
* OfficialCouple: With Mime first, then Handy as her most prominent.
* PottyEmergency: In "Happy Trails" as well as "Wingin' It"; she seems to like her soda and juice boxes.
* SanitySlippage: In "Wishy Washy" as she gets dirty from Lumpy trying to unclog the toilet. It eventually culminates in Petunia [[DrivenToSuicide committing the only suicide in the series.]]
* ShipTease: In ''House Warming'', after Handy builds a new treehouse for her, Petunia affectionaely hugs him. They eventually become an {{OfficialCouple}} in the season three episode ''I Nub You''.
* SignatureHairDecs: She wears a pink [[MeaningfulName petunia]] on her head.
* SilentSnarker: Expresses disdain whenever Disco Bear attempts to hit on her.
* SmellySkunk: Subtly defied -- It has never been hinted that Petunia smells bad, but her five showers a day, the flower on her head and the air-freshener necklace ''may'' have something to do with that.
* SuperOCD: "Wishy Washy" gratuitously showed us how bad it can be with her panic attacks. She showers a lot, will do anything to put things in their proper place, and hyperventilates if anything is not the least bit organized.
* TertiarySexualCharacteristics: She has long eyelashes and a flower on her head.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The girly girl to Flaky's tomboy. Flaky doesn't look very feminine and once played soccer, while Petunia enjoys girly activities and loves to keep clean.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Her fur is dark blue. She's also noticeably feminine compared to Flaky.
* TerrifiedOfGerms: She is constantly showering and freaks out whenever dirt gets on her. It gets her into trouble in "Wishy Washy" and "Home is Where the Hurt is".
* TooDumbToLive: In "Breaking Wind", she lights a match when the atmosphere is choked with flammable gas and causes the entire planet's surface to explode.

[[folder:Handy]]
-->"A happy home has all the right hardware for any happenstance!"
-->Voiced by: Warren Graff, Kenn Navarro ("A Hole Lotta Love")
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/handy_profile.png]]

A helpful, yet grumpy orange beaver with [[IronicName amputated hands]], who is always seen wearing a hard hat, a toolbelt, and arm-nubs wrapped in bandages. Despite his handicap, Handy is most often seen doing (or at least attempting) activities that require hands. Ironically, his dam is full of things that are handheld. Whenever he fails at a task or remembers he doesn't have hands, he will pull his trademark look of a frustrated glance into the camera.
----
* AsideGlance: Once he realizes he does not have hands or tries to do something that requires hands, [[https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/happytreefriends/images/9/99/The_Worst_Video_I_Ever_Made_Commentary_12_0001.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20140102060411 he will glare into the camera.]]
* BadlyBatteredBabysitter: In "A Handy Nanny", he gets killed whilst babysitting Cub.
* BehindTheBlack: Whenever he successfully does something that requires hands, it's almost always done off-camera.
* BirdsOfAFeather: He is close friends with The Mole; likely because they are both handicapped and have had their lives drastically changed because of it. They go on a road trip together in "Don't Yank My Chain". In "No Time Like the Present" they seem to be living together as roommates. They are often working together (such as building houses, bridges, or being lumbermen). Notably in the TV series, where Handy displays a clear LackOfEmpathy at many characters' misfortunes, he is genuinely horrified at The Mole's death and silently mourns him.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: Whenever he gets frustrated over his lack of hands, he turns to the camera and growls.
* ButtMonkey: A recurring joke is that his lack of hands prevent him from doing certain things, followed by his signature growl of frustration when realizing that said things need hands to be done. There's also the fact that he has one of the lowest survival rates in the series. Take, for example, "Change in Heart" where he is the only character that dies in the episode.
* CosmicPlaything: While this tropes applies to virtually the entire cast, Handy seems to be one of the few the universe is trying to actively torment rather than giving him a KarmicDeath or a TooDumbToLive warning. Take "Don't Yank My Chain" as an example, where Handy's logical attempt to break the chain he was strapped to results in his death. The first fact is that he has no hands, so his life is already difficult (he's one of the few characters who has a permanent injury). But even outside of the gore and grime, Handy is rarely given a happy ending to begin with. Even Lifty and Shifty have more wholesome conclusions. The world does not just aim to kill Handy. His luck overall, even if the situation does not involve his hands, would still show as unfortunate. For example, Disco Bear yelling at him while driving a van when Handy was in the middle of being a driving instructor, or Splendid hurling a snowball at Handy’s drive way right after he has finished cleaning it. It can be said that Handy is overall unlucky, even for the standards of the series.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Like Lumpy, his torment and abuse exceeds the majority of the cast. He suffers many painful injuries and he would take a lot of pain before he dies. Episodes like "Shards At Work" or "Don't Yank My Chain" are glarring examples of this.
* DeathGlare: Often makes this face when he can't do something because of being without hands.
* DisproportionateRetribution: In "Happy Trails Pt. 2", he, along with Flippy, Lumpy and Sniffles, kill Flaky, just because she popped the raft with her quills.
* DistressedDude: In "See What Develops", he was literally hanging by a thread (with his ''mouth'') while Splendid was deciding whether he should rescue him or stop The Mole.
* FieryRedhead: Downplayed. He's an orange beaver who's easy to irritate, both from the difficulties his lack of hands causes him and from everyone else's shenanigans.
* GrievousBottleyHarm: In "Spare Me", he's hit in the back of the head while drinking soda from a bottle, which causes it to get stuck in his eyesocket while his [[EyeScream eye]] rattles around inside the bottle.
* GrumpyBear: There's hardly any episodes where Handy is not upset or frustrated.
* HairTriggerTemper: He's mostly just irritated but when push comes to shove, expect to get a [[{{Angrish}} big earful]].
* HandicappedBadass: He has built an entire house by himself twice. And that's without mentioning the other things he's pulled off.
* HelicopterBlender: In "Who's to Flame?", after pushing an eject button on his helicopter, Handy is sent flying into the blades.
* IronicName: A beaver named Handy who lacks hands.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Petunia, who's a skunk.
* LackOfEmpathy: The episode "The Wrong Side of the Tracks" and "Ipso Fatso" shows that he rarely ever feels sympathy or grief when other characters die or get injured (with a few exceptions being The Mole and Petunia). He suffers a KarmicDeath in both episodes.
* MrFixIt: He is portrayed as a construction worker without hands. Yet he manages to perform tasks that require them, including building an entire house. [[BehindTheBlack We just do not see him actually do it.]]
* NiceHat: Wears a hard hat. It has protected him from serious injury and death on a few occasions.
* NeverBareheaded: So far what he looks like under his hard hat hasn't been revealed. [[note]] We do actually see what's under his hat for a few frames, where it is shown that he lacks ears.[[/note]]
* NonIndicativeName: His name is Handy, but he has no hands.
* NotSoAboveItAll: He may show a clear annoyance or confusion at the other characters' behaviors, quirks, and repeated acts of stupidity a lot of the time, he is also guilty of preforming said acts, as he's implied to be TheSociopath and has done stupid acts himself, such as trusting The Mole and Lumpy to pull off certain tasks.
* OfficialCouple: With Petunia in "I Nub You".
* OhCrap: Gets a '''[[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/happytreefriends/images/3/31/Handy_death_Chain_Z.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1364?cb=20170912171634 massive]]''' one that would put [[Manga/OnePiece Enel]] to shame right before he slams into the train tunnel in "Don't Yank My Chain".
* OnlySaneMan: Handy is one of the smarter characters in the series. He doesn't have a reckless quirk or a severe disorder (besides showing signs of being a sociopath). Most of the time, he'll just relax without anything weird going on and most of his deaths are just because his luck may perhaps be one of the worse (if not, the worst).
* PerpetualFrowner: {{Downplayed}}: While he does smile often, he has gotten through episodes without even smiling once (Spare Me and Easy Comb, Easy Go for example) and many fans and advertisements will know and have his trademark grumpy face as his default expression.
* SilentSnarker: Would easily be the most fit to say something sarcastic if he could.
* TheSociopath: With the exception of Petunia and The Mole (because they're close to him), he doesn't really care or at least isn't fazed by any deaths happening to the other characters around him. A good example is when Nutty got impaled on a carnival set while Handy straight up didn't care and was more moved by him winning the toss game (in "The Wrong Side of the Tracks"). Bonus points for just laughing at Cuddles for losing HIS hands.
* ThrowTheDogABone: After dying relentlessly in both the vast majority of the television and internet series, in the TV Season's finale "Friday the 13th", Handy survived the entirety of the episode, appearing in every segment without even receiving a single flesh wound.

[[folder:Nutty]]
-->"Nuttin' wrong with going nuts for nectarously nice candy!"
-->Voiced by: Michael "Lippy" Lipman
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nuttys_profile_image_2_5.png]]

A hyperactive green squirrel who always has several pieces of candy stuck in his fur. Nutty is absolutely addicted to everything sweet and sugary, and will sometimes add pounds of sugar to something just to make it sweet enough for him. His constantly-dilated eyes are mismatched with one lazy eye (a side effect from his high sugar consumption), and his vocabulary consists almost entirely of laughing and giggling. His sugar addiction has gotten him in trouble more than a few times.
----
* AmbiguousDisorder: His inability to pay attention to certain things as well as not being able to sit/stand still hints towards ADHD and his [[BigEater large appetite]] towards candy hints towards him having a binge-eating eating disorder. He's also shown signs of [[LackOfEmpathy sociopathy]] as he doesn't care about the lives of others (he sometimes even laughs at the carnage around him).
* AndIMustScream: In "Dunce Upon a Time", Nutty eats beans, which start to grow into a giant beanstalk in the night out of his body painfully. At the end of the episode, it shows that he was ''still alive'' before Giggles kills him with an axe so Lumpy couldn't reach the ground.
* AssholeVictim: Depending on the episode. He's not always a {{Jerkass}} to others, but when he is, expect him to die in the end.
* {{Autocannibalism}}: In "Camp Pokeneyeout", he [[EyeScream uses his own eyeballs]] as marshmallow replacements for his s'mores.
* AxCrazy: Not to Flippy's level, but he still has his moments. He has killed people for candy.
* BerserkButton: Do ''not'' come between him and his candy or games, as proven in False Alarm.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Non-villainous example. Nutty is not always taken seriously by the other Tree Friends due to his sugar addiction. There are, however, multiple times where he has killed another character deliberately.
* BracesOfOrthodonticOverkill: In "Chew Said a Mouthful", he gets them to hold his jaw together after breaking it on a gobstopper.
* BigEater: Has a huge appetite, mainly towards sugar.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: A blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment but in the episode, ''From Hero to Eternity'', he's seen playing a game of chess with [[TheSmartGuy Sniffles]] and it's implied that he's winning.
* CharacterTics: Jittering around.
* CharacterDevelopment: Nutty became way more sane and calm after the events of False Alarm, as it seems that the therapy he recieves from Doctor Sniffles actually worked. Well, until his next starring role, but some episodes where he basically consumes the screentime from a billed starring character, his addiction wasn't even brought up.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Half of the time, Nutty isn't even in reality. He views as everything that ''slightly'' bears a resembalance to candy as the very item he desires, and he doesn't really pay attention to the carnage around him, even smiling at the deaths of himself or others.
* CompanionCube: "A Sucker For Love" was [[FallingInLoveMontage almost entirely dedicated]] to his fantasies of various candies... as girlfriends and [[WhyDontYouMarryIt wives]]. Also doubles as a CargoShip.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: His colored eye matches his green fur.
* CuteAndPsycho: An adorable squirrel who has killed people.
* DemotedToExtra: Nutty had a few starring roles in season 1, but after that, his ADayInTheLimeLight episodes are now OnceASeason type of deal, disregarding the TV Series, which only helped the situation by one more episode.
* DependingOnTheWriter:
** Nutty has a mixed personality. In some episodes, he's selfish {{Jerkass}}, in some episodes, he's a JerkWithAHeartOfGold and in some episodes, he's a [[NiceGuy nice and friendly guy]].
** His addiction to candy also heavily varies. He's either just very fond of sweets to having a concerning liking for it to outright having a dangerous obsession over it.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: He apparently doesn't like apples.
* {{Determinator}}: Even when he's dying, he'll always try to get loads of candy.
* TheDitz: As a result of his candy addiction, he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He often manages to come off as even dumber than Lumpy, who can at least generally tell what is and isn't food.
* DissonantLaughter: He sometimes laughs while he dies.
* TheDreaded: Numerous characters have gotten scared of his very presence a few times, such as Disco Bear in "Easy Comb, Easy Go".
* ExtremeOmnivore: He'll eat anything that ''vaguely'' resembles candy, from Christmas lights to cement mix and even other characters in costume.
* {{Flanderization}}: From just a sugar addict to pretty much falling in love with candy.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: There are several instances that show that the characters view him as an annoyance or a bother of some sort.
* GreenAndMean: Nutty can be pretty selfish, and his fur is green.
* GRatedDrug: Consuming anything sugary, [[ICantBelieveItsNotHeroin sometimes in tiny amounts]], will send Nutty bouncing off the walls. Prolonged periods without sugar will send Nutty into withdrawal symptoms, becoming irritable and mentally imbalanced.
* GroinAttack: He takes a yo-yo to the crotch in one of the options in "Nutty's Party Smoochie", grinding it against his groin so hard that he ''[[KillItWithFire combusts]]'', ending up as a charred skeleton.
* HiddenDepths:
** In one episode he was playing checkers against Sniffles -- and was ''winning''. Not something expected from the off-the-walls SweetTooth squirrel, especially not against the resident [[TheSmartGuy Smart Guy]]. Though, considering it's ''Happy Tree Friends'', their game never gets finished.
** If you discount the fact that it's directed towards [[CompanionCube candy]], his {{Imagine Spot}}s in "A Sucker for Love" shows him being much more romantic than you'd expect from his normal personality, bringing his "wife" breakfast in bed and even imagining having children. [[BreadEggsMilkSquick Also]], he has a [[MurderTheHypotenuse serious]] jealous side.
* TheHyena: He's always laughing, even when dying.
* {{Irony}}: In "Chew Said A Mouthful", it's revealed that he hates the taste of apples but still wears a candy apple on his forehead. Probably helps though that the candy apple is. Well. Candy coated.
* {{Jerkass}}: Will gladly prioritize his sugar addiction over the lives of others.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite his selfish tendencies, he's proven that - as long as nobody gets in the way of his candy or video games - he's a fairly decent guy. ''A Sucker For Love'' is a good example of this with him bringing his "wife" breakfast in bed and imagining having children with her.
* KarmicDeath: A huge portion of his deaths are well deserved. Such as in "Icy You", where his head explodes after trying to steal all the candy in the convenience store.
* {{Keet}}: Permanently bouncing off the walls.
* LaughingMad: Even when in pain, suffering, or ''dying'' he'll intersperse giggling with groaning and screaming.
* MeaningfulName: His name says it all -- he's as nutty as a squirrel's breakfast.
* MismatchedEyes: Has one normal eye and one lazy eye with a green iris.
* OddFriendship: Despite his rambunctious nature, he does manage to get along with [[TheSmartGuy Sniffles]] of all people.
* NiceGuy: As long as nobody gets in the way of his candy or video games, he's a friendly guy.
* PapaWolf: He does ''[[NothingIsScarier something]]'' to Lumpy in "Sucker for Love" after the latter eats his chocolate children to wind himself up in jail. [[spoiler:Turned out it was all a daydream, but it's still Nutty's dream, after all.]]
* SanityBall: In "Take a Hike", Nutty is shown to be on his sane side when he and Petunia became lost and thirsty. He became annoyed at her moaning.
* ScrewballSquirrel: A squirrel who's - as the name suggests - about as nutty as a bag of peanuts.
* TheSociopath: There are times where Nutty will endanger the lives of not only himself but the people around him, and he doesn't seem to care when his actions get them killed.
* SkewedPriorities: Doesn't matter if he's about to drop dead, he'll still do anything for some sweets.
* SweetTooth: A whole mouthful then some. It's almost always what lands him into trouble.
* TakeAThirdOption: His addictive personality means he can get hooked onto other things besides candy. Shown in "False Alarm" when he compulsively plays video games not long after getting clean from sugar.
* TooDumbToLive: Many of his deaths could have been avoided if he learned how to prioritize his own well-being over some sweets.
** In "Chew Said a Mouthful" he bites on a jawbreaker and smashes up his jaw [[RuleOfThree three times.]]
** In "A Sucker for Love", he scoops up some glass shards and gumballs from a broken gumball machine and shovels them all into his mouth. When he blows a bubble, it pops and the shards impale his face.
** In "As You Wish", he wishes for a lollipop, tries swallowing the entire thing whole, and promptly chokes to death.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Anything sweet, in case all the candy plastered to his fur wasn't a clue. He'll even eat sugar straight from the bag if that's an option.
* UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist: A selfish squirrel who cares more about sweets than everyone else's well being.
* VillainProtagonist: In "A Sucker for Love", he tries to steal a lollipop from Cub.
* VerbalTic: That lip-smacking sound he makes whenever he comes across candy.

[[folder:Sniffles]]
-->"Science is seriously satisfying!"
-->Voiced by: Liz Stewart
[[quoteright:320:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sniffles_profile.png]]

A nerdy blue anteater with glasses and a pocket protector. Often seen as the brains of the show, Sniffles is a geek who loves science, inventing, ''Franchise/StarTrek'', and superheroes (Splendid especially). He sometimes delves into mad scientist territory on a few occasions, however. There are several episodes dedicated to him and a family of ants who he always tries to eat, though the ants always end up killing him at the end.
----
* AndIMustScream: Seems to be a frequent victim of this.
** In "Blast of the Past", where he unwittingly gets trapped in a time loop of himself dying.
** In "Dream Job" where Lumpy inadvertently tortures Sniffles by flipping through various channels of the TV attached to his dream helmet, forcing him to go through numerous deaths until he overpowers the TV and renders him catatonic.
** Every "Sniffles vs. The Ant Family" episode puts him in one (except "Suck it Up").
*** In "Crazy Ant-ics", where the Ant Family traps his tongue in their ant hill and begins to torture him.
*** At the end of "Tongue Twister Trouble", he gets frozen alive.
*** In "A Hard Act to Swallow", they nail his body to a tree while they torture him [[FantasticVoyagePlot from the inside]].
*** In "Tongue in Cheek", where he is mind controlled by the Ant Family to commit self-ColdBloodedTorture.
* AscendedExtra: While Sniffles was already a major character, he basically was given the same treatment the other characters were given, being a common character but not excessive, similarly to Petunia and Flaky. However, more and more episodes about Sniffles were created, which extended to him having the second most amount of episodes starring the said character in the TV series (yes, him out of all characters). Sniffles was even one of the few characters who didn't get completely overshadowed by Lumpy, as he still had quite a few episodes (characters like Cuddles or Toothy only had one per season while some characters like Giggles or Flaky outright had no episodes about them). He can even be considered to have as much prominence as the four primary characters, being unofficially considered the fifth most frequent character, even when you take into account two of the other common characters, Petunia or Handy, who, at times, would serve as the series' unofficial fifth primary character.
* AssholeVictim: Zig-zagged. When against the Ants, he's depicted as the aggressor and they are the victims; he always has plenty of chances to back out of his war with them but refuses to leave them alone. He's at his worst in "Tongue in Cheek," when he destroys their house and pushes them to the brink of tears. That being said, the Ants [[DisproportionateRetribution take their retaliation far beyond self-defense]] and end up torturing and killing Sniffles in such a horrific manner that one can't help but feel sorry for him anyways.
* BadassBookworm: As seen in "[[Recap/HTFIdolCuriosity Idol Curiosity]]", he can hold his own pretty well against opponents.
* BlindWithoutEm: In "[[Recap/HTFSightForSoreEyes A Sight For Sore Eyes]]", it is revealed that Sniffles is extremely nearsighted when we cut to his POV when his glasses are cut in half by his [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext paper airplane-shaped rocket]]. TruthInTelevision, as anteaters have very poor eyesight in real life.
* BlueIsHeroic: In the episodes that don't feature the ants, he prefers to help out others.
* BodyPocket: Has a pocket protector wielding some pens but doesn't seem to have any other kind of clothing on him.
* BullyingADragon: Despite the ants' ''constant'' ColdBloodedTorture of him, he still has the nerve to keep on targeting them. Nevertheless, he ends up dying painfully.
* BunglingInventor: His inventions often backfire lethally on him and those around him due to design flaws or him using them unwisely.
* ButtMonkey: He has gone through some of '''the''' most [[CruelAndUnusualDeath agonizing and horrifying deaths]] the show has to offer, has had [[MutilationConga at least six episodes entirely devoted to torturing him]], and is frequently put into several AndIMustScream scenarios.
* CatchPhrase: "Aha!"
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: In the first season he's mostly just generically nerdy, and the episodes centering around him focus on his battles with the ants. The second season opener "[[Recap/HTFJumpingTheShark Happy Trails Pt. 2]]" gives him his knack for inventing and science when he turns a broken school bus into a rocket ship, a trait that would go on to become his main gimmick in the series going forward.
* ColdBloodedTorture: Falls victim to this whenever the ants are involved.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Happens to him a lot, even by Happy Tree Friends standards. His most famous death is in the episode, "Tongue In Cheek", where the ants install a mind control device on Sniffles and force him to eat a razor blade apple, stick his tongue in a shredder, nail his tail to the ground, and have his organs ripped out of his mouth [[AndIMustScream while being fully conscious of it the whole time]].
* CuteBookworm: Plenty of fans find him adorable specifically because he's a dorky nerd.
* {{Determinator}}: Goes to extremes to catch the ants... not that he ever succeeds.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Sniffles himself gets this whenever he tries to eat the ants. Granted, fatally eating them is pretty bad, but the torture they inflict on him in return is very painful and prolonged.
* DitzyGenius: While Sniffles is a nerd who can solve math equations and can create complex inventions, he still lacks common sense. From ignoring fatal flaws witin his inventions, to being generally stubborn, to having stupidty that is comparable to the more scattered brained characters.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: Sniffles had a much longer snout in the internet series.
* EvilVersusEvil: He is usually the aggressor to the ants, but since the ants launch ''massive'' DisproportionateRetribution against him, he is easily the lesser of two evils.
* {{Expy}}: He is possibly based off of [[WesternAnimation/{{Arthur}} Arthur Read]] and the aardvark from WesternAnimation/TheAntAndTheAardvark, since they are both blue and fail to catch the ants they want to eat.
* FatalFlaw: His sheer [[TheDeterminator determination]]. Most of his suffering is a direct cause of him never giving up. Throughout most of the Ants episodes, he is a victim to ColdBloodedTorture, but still never backs down. In "Blast From the Past", he keeps subjecting Cuddles, Giggles, Toothy, and Lumpy to several CruelAndUnusualDeath with his time-machine in order to make the playground safe before trapping himself in an [[AndIMustScream eternal loop of himself dying]].
* GadgeteerGenius: He was able to build a functioning rocket ship out of the remains of a school bus and a TimeMachine out of a washer, for starters.
* HeroicBSOD: He mentally shuts down after suffering nightmares in "Dream Job".
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Damn near all of his creations have completely backfired on him in one way or another.
* IdiotBall: Despite often being regarded as the most intelligent character, he makes loads of mistakes that are on par with Lumpy's.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: When he's cast as the villain (usually when up against the Ants) expect little to no success on his part. "Tongue in Cheek" being the most prominent, and horrifying, example of this trope.
* MadScientist: Sometimes he gets a bit crazy whilst inventing things.
* MisappliedPhlebotinum: He manages to build a mind control helmet and a tiny, fully-functioning robot... [[SuperPersistentPredator only to try and capture ants to eat]]. And the TimeMachine? Built just so he could go back to ''keep his milk from getting spilled''. (Though, the latter was put to better intentions. [[DiabolusExMachina Almost]].)
* MisplacedWildlife: He's a South American anteater in a cast of North American woodland critters.
* {{Nerd}}: A geeky anteater who has a craving for ants. He loves Star Trek and is a huge {{Fanboy}} of Splendid.
* NerdGlasses: Complete with tape to hold the lenses together.
* NonstandardCharacterDesign: Like Lumpy, he does not have a heart-shaped nose.
* OddFriendship: Despite his extreme intelligence, he gets along well with a nutcase like Nutty who otherwise rubs everyone the wrong way.
* PsychicAssistedSuicide: In "Tongue In Cheek", courtesy of the Ant Family using his mind control helmet.
* RazorApples: The ant family mind-control Sniffles to eat one in "Tongue In Cheek".
* SilentSnarker: Occasionally, he'll show a snarky expression at others when they preform a dimwitted act.
* TheSmartGuy: Usually builds intricate gadgets that drive the plot of some episodes.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: The show's resident GadgeteerGenius is also the only character to wear glasses (not counting The Mole's sunglasses, but that's [[BlindPeopleWearSunglasses a different trope entirely]]).
* ThrowTheDogABone: He managed to get his own back against the ants by eating one of their ancestors when he went back in time to grow some trees.
** He invented an automatic slingshot gun in "Camp Pokeneyout" -- one that did not backfire or lead to his death. It marks the only invention in the whole series that did nothing wrong.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Ants, even though he's only been able to successfully eat one during the course of the series. [[SuperPersistentPredator He usually goes to great lengths just to capture one]].
* TongueTrauma: Due to his long tongue, Sniffles has had ''a lot'' of tongue-related injuries.
** Is forced to stick his tongue in a paper shredder and later forcibly ties it around an oar in "Tongue In Cheek".
** Gets his tongue attacked by the Ant family in "Crazy Ant-ics".
** In "Tongue Twister Trouble", he gets his tongue clawed off by a cat.
* ToothyBird: Sniffles has teeth, but real-life anteaters are toothless.
* VillainProtagonist: In the episodes with the Ant family, he is shown as the villain.

[[folder:Pop]]
-->"Parental parents are patient and proud."
-->Voiced by: Aubrey Ankrum
[[quoteright:235:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pops_profile.png]]

An irresponsible tan bear who is almost always seen with a pipe and wears a red hat and robe. Pop is a [[StandardFiftiesFather single father to his son]], Cub, whom he tends to accidentally kill on a regular basis due to his oblivious and slightly dim nature. Despite this, he is actually very caring towards his son and will go out of his way to save him in the few times he knows Cub is hurt or lost. His wife/Cub's mother is dead, as was [[https://twitter.com/ChainKnuckle/status/635121111647170560 confirmed]] in a tweet by Ken Navarro.
----
* AbusiveParents: Downplayed. While he doesn't mean to hurt his son, his treatment of Cub is very questionable and sometimes cross the line of borderline child abuse. For example, when Pop wasn't able to pull a nail out of Cub's head, instead of calling the hospital, he instead hammers it deep into Cub's head, ignoring Cub's whine as he does so.
* AdultFear: Anytime Cub is lost or injured, Pop will be very worried sick. One of the biggest examples of this is in "A Hole Lotta Love", where he panics upon thinking Cub has fell into a pit and suddenly becomes aggresive.
* BearsAreBadNews: Downplayed, because while his terrible parenting skills usually mean a terrible death for his son Cub, he doesn't intend to do so, has a good heart and only wants what's best for him.
* BearyFriendly: He isn't shown interacting with characters other than Cub often, but when he does he is shown to be a good-natured sort.
* BigNo: Usually spouts this when Cub dies. This reaches it's epitome in "And The Kitchen Sink".
* BumblingDad: His [[ParentalObliviousness obliviousness to his son's safety]] often leads to the latter's often gruesome deaths.
* TheDeterminator: The few times he ever is aware that Cub is in danger he'll never stop in trying to save his son, up to and including going over a waterfall in "And the Kitchen Sink" and successfully fending off a rabid dog in "Doggone it!"
* DotingParent: He would do ''anything'' for his son, Cub.
* EyeScream: One of his deaths in "Pop's BBQ Smoochie" is him being impaled through the eye and the back of his head with a kabob stick.
* {{Flanderization}}: Pop became much more moody as the show progresses. Not to mention, he became more TooDumbToLive and LethallyStupid. His stupidity has gotten to the point where one can call him the second Lumpy. His AbusiveParents traits also started to shine more, for example, that infamous moment where he breaks off Cub's leg-bone ''intentionally''.
* GoodParents: The rare instances where Pop doesn't kill Cub, he's shown to be a very caring father to his infant son. Of course, this is Happy Tree Friends we're talking about, so even if he's a fully engaged father, they will find some way to kill Cub.
* GrumpyBear: He's somewhat hostile to the other characters. Heck, he can be seen eyeing Splendid in "From Hero to Enternity" for no apperant reason.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: His robe and [[NiceHat hat]].
* HandsOffParenting: Pop often lets Cub wonder around or play with something he shouldn't.
* HelicopterBlender: His first death in "Having a Ball" has him on the bad end of falling on top of moving helicopter blades.
* HiddenDepths: Appearntly, Pop's a cheapskate, as revealed in "Read Em and Weep", which would actually explain some things.
* IdiotHero: In his journeys in rescuing Cub, he's clearly not the brightest bulb.
* IdiotHoudini: Pop has a decent survival rate in spite of his son having the opposite, which is caused by his incompetent parenting. Pop also has one of the largest kill counts in the series, which is mostly by his reckless behavior.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: After years of killing his son both due to incompetence and reckless parenting, his survival rate has seem to take a toll on him in later episodes. After the TV Series, he has made five appearances so far. He survives 2 and dies in 3 episodes.
* LargeHam: Chances are, if he sees his son missing or accidently causes an injury towards him, expect him to freak out or make various nervous faces.
* LethallyStupid: For the record, he has the second highest kill count, technically speaking.
* NiceHat: Part of his main attire.
* OffingTheOffspring: Pop often kills his own son because of his incompetence.
* OhCrap: His usual reactions to his son's deaths.
* PapaWolf: He becomes unusually confrontational when Nutty steals Cub's lollipop in "A Sucker for Love".
* ParentsAsPeople: Pop cares deeply for his son and would do anything to save him from impending doom.
* ParentalObliviousness: How clueless he is to trouble Cub gets into usually causes the latter's deaths.
* PushoverParents: He doesn't do anything about the chaos Cub causes in "Cubtron Z" and did nothing while Cub was whacking Giggles' seat with a toy airplane in "Wingin' It".
* RedIsHeroic: Wears a red hat and robe, and at least tries to save his son.
* RunningGag: A certain running gag in the TV Series follows this formula: Pop is playing with or entertaining Cub, only for his son to be killed by other characters.
* SpotlightStealingSquad: Pop and Cub has been given a surprising amount of screen-time, surpassing several other characters even. [[note]]In Pop's case, he has appeared in ''two'' Smoochies, has made far major roles in episodes that focuses on another character, made prominent appearances in the two TV episodes where Lumpy does not appeared, and for the TV Series and Season 3-4, his amount of starring roles surpassed Cuddles, Giggles, and Toothy's, the show's most major characters.[[/note]]
* SmokingIsCool: Has a pipe in his mouth most of the time.
* WidowerHero: Pop's wife passed away and now he needs to do is try his best to protect his son and keep him away from danger. Like was mentioned above, Pop only wanted what's best for him.

[[folder:Cub]]
-->"Cute kids are cuddly and carefree!"
-->Voiced by: Dana Belben (2000-2005), Ellen Connell (2005-2009), Lori Jee (2011-present)
[[quoteright:217:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cubs_profile.png]]

An adorable tan baby bear, who is always wearing a propeller beanie hat and a diaper/nappy. Cub is Pop's son, and often his deaths are due to his father's oblivious nature. He tends to act stereotypically baby-like (babbling, drooling, etc.), though he has the mobility of a toddler. Because of his babyish nature and innocence, he doesn't usually notice if someone has died or is in pain, and has even played with severed body parts on occasion.
----
* ADogNamedDog: A bear cub named Cub.
* BabyTalk: Being a baby, this is how Cub talks.
* ButtMonkey: Dies in most of his appearances, usually caused by his father by accident. Unlike most of the characters, he has barely any way to protect himself due to just being a baby.
* DemonicPossession: In "Read 'Em And Weep", an EldritchAbomination possess him.
* DeadBabyComedy: Literally, since he dies a lot and is a baby.
* DeathOfAChild: He's often killed off in horrible ways, just like the other animals.
* DisneyDeath: In "And the Kitchen Sink" when Pop sees Cub's seemingly decapitated head lying in the sand after the two have gone over a waterfall. When he grabs his head, he finds that he was just buried in the sand up to the neck, and Cub lets out a weak cough.
* FearlessInfant: Sometimes, he is happy even in dangerous situations. He also is seen happy even when he sees somebody dying.
* FreeRangeChildren: Several times, he has been seen on his own, to the point where one could forget that he's a duo character.
* HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood: Cub is not even out of his diapers yet, but he's often brutally or tragically maimed inadvertably by his incompetent father.
* HumongousMecha: In "Cubtron Z", where Pop manages to revive him as a gigantic robot to help protect him from the dangers of the rest of the world. [[BecarefulWhatYouWishFor It works too well]].
* MadeOfIron: In "And the Kitchen Sink", Cub survived being scalded by extremely hot water (by mistake), having his entire lower half of his body disintegrated in a sink garbage disposal, being pulled by the neck with a rope tied to a station wagon whose accelerator Pop floored (in an attempt to free Cub from the sink drain), being dragged by said station wagon while still stuck in the sink, and falling off a waterfall. These injuries and situations usually kill or dismember the older Tree Friends. He only died by drowning in the bathtub when Pop was looking away.
* MissingMom: His mom is never seen nor mentioned. The creators have confirmed that she passed away.
* NiceHat: And apparently it hides an entire mane of hair.
* NotAllowedToGrowUp: Ever since 1999, Cub has remained.... [[ADogNamedDog well, a cub.]]
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: He is a cute bear cub.
* SpotlightStealingSquad: Pop and Cub has been given a surprising amount of screentime, surpassing several other characters even. [[note]]In Cub's case, he, along with Sniffles, are in fifth place of having the most amount of starring episodes, next to the four primary characters themselves.[[/note]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Flaky]]
-->Voiced by: Nica Lorber
[[quoteright:291:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flakytransparent.png]]

A cowardly red porcupine whose quills are [[MeaningfulName full of dandruff]]. Flaky is the subject of a long-standing gender dispute, though most of the creators and fans refer to her as a female. Her official gender description on the website is a question mark. She is very cautious, scared of nearly everything, and is prone to motion sickness. Despite this, she can be very brave if the situation calls for it. Is also allergic to peanuts, as shown in "Party Animal".

On April 28, 2012, on the Twitter for ''Happy Tree Friends'', in reply to someone's tweet, it was an actual discussion about Flaky's gender and they intentionally stated Flaky was a girl, confirming Flaky's gender.
----
* ActionGirl: While she's usually very timid, she manages to land a runaway plane ''by herself'' in "Wingin' It".
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: {{Downplayed}}. While not hated, the other characters tend to abuse her a bit. For example, in "Happy Trails Pt. 2" [[DisproportionateRetribution Lumpy, Flippy, Handy and Sniffles murder her just because she popped a raft when the characters were stranded on an island.]]
* AmbiguousGender: The creators (usually) say girl. They also like trolling the fanbase, as seen in "Something Fishy", [[WhichRestroomDilemma when she couldn't decide whether to go into the men's or women's restroom]], where her unknown gender is actually lampshaded. ([[spoiler:In the end, she went into the women's restroom, which proved disastrous, because the plumbing was infested by Russell's deadly piranha fish.]])
* AnimalLover: Has a very kind and caring nature towards animals. [[AnimalsHateHim The feeling is NOT reciprocated.]]
* [[AnimalsHateHim Animals Hate Her]]: She's been either killed, eaten, or non-fatally maimed by: an eagle, an orca, sharks, seagulls, carnivorous plants, a piranha, a baboon (presumably), and even a ''kaiju.'' In fact, the only character with a higher number of animal-related deaths and injuries is Lumpy.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She is one of the more caring characters of the series, sometimes even [[OutOfCharacterMoment going against her fears]] to help someone or throw a surprise party for a SerialKiller (granted, he's only like that when he is reminded of the war). That said, "Without a Hitch" has her causing another character harm intentionally, and leading to their death ''because'' of her paranoia alone.
* ButtMonkey: She is often pushed around by the other characters. Flaky's deaths are also particularly gruesome and are seriously some of the strangest within the series, surviving only 11 episodes out of 49 she's in, 10 if you consider both parts of "Happy Trails" the same episode.
* CompanionCube: A garden gnome she finds in a box in "Snow Place to Go", after being stranded along with Lumpy, Russell, Cuddles, Giggles and Toothy. She starts to have a rather creepy, if oddly affectionate and motherly, attitude towards it during her SanitySlippage right before her death.
* CowardlyLion: When she isn't simply cowardly, she does go against her fears when she has to.
* DemotedToExtra: After her starring role in the 2009 HalloweenEpisode, Flaky's prominence dwindled quickly. Having only a handful of roles in season three and being [[ChuckCunninghamSyndrome entirely absent from season four]] bar one featuring role in "[[Recap/HTFGoingOutWithABang Going Out With a Bang]]".
* DesecratingTheDead: While pretty much all of the tree friends have had embarrassing things done to their dead bodies, Flaky seems especially prone to it, with her remains getting used as a coat, a nest, and a hermit crab's shell among other things.
* FieryRedhead: Inverted. She's the only red character in the main cast, and she's also the most timid and shy character in it, tending to get both literally and figuratively pushed around by them. The closest she ever gets to being angry is when she gets briefly annoyed when a Generic Tree Friend pushes her in "[[Recap/HTFRinkHijinks Rink Hijinks]]" and when she slaps Nutty's hand away and scolds him with a stern finger wag when he tries to take the chocolate chips she needs for baking in "[[Recap/HTFPartyAnimal Party Animal]]".
* {{Flanderization}}: Flaky starts off somewhat cautious in season 1. She only got scared of things that were truly dangerous. By season 2, she starts to develop fears that were somewhat irrational (i.e. skating, flying, and skiing). By the end of season 2, she's pretty much scared of anything that's nearby her (i.e. chicks). It's starts to tone down in the TV series, when she was seen brave enough to throw a birthday party for Flippy and bring a baby bird back to its nest. However, by season 3, she's pretty much scared over anything (i.e. going in the wrong bathroom).
* GrievousHarmWithABody: She's used as a club by Fliqpy to kill Cuddles with in "Keepin' It Reel". Considering her quills, it worked.
* HighPressureBlood: When she [[EyeScream bleeds out of her eye]] in one of her Smoochies. It was enough to make her eyeball pop out as it floats on a blood fountain from her eyelid.
* IdiotBall:
** In "Wingin It", she slides off the emergency inflatable slide, but it pops.
** Something similar happens in "Happy Trails Pt. 2" wherein she rides an inflatable raft with the rest of the cast, but she pops it.
* KarmicDeath: She dies when her airbag dislodges in "Without a Hitch" after murdering a non-flipped out Flippy.
* LovableCoward: She is understandably always scared of everything, but her whimpering, stuttering and crying is the cutest thing you'll ever see on the show. Not to mention the moments [[WhenSheSmiles she is actually happy.]]
* MeaningfulName: Flaky has ''dandruff flakes'' in her quills.
* NiceGirl: Usually caring and nice towards everyone.
* OddFriendship: Nutty was the one who was helping her out with her surprise birthday party in "Party Animal". The birthday party was for Flippy, which is even more odd considering she should probably be afraid of him.
* OnlySaneMan: When living in a world where you can die by falling down the stairs, getting hit by a coconut in the head or being split in half by a stump she has [[ProperlyParanoid every right to be freaked out of her mind.]]
* OutOfCharacterMoment: In "Party Animal", she throws a party, when she usually never takes the initiative to do anything. The party's for Flippy, who she normally fears. [[IdiotBall Usually she knows better than do such a thing.]]
* PerpetualFrowner: Flaky would wear a frown most of the time, and even when she's smiling, her eyes remain in a nervous appearance.
* PlotAllergy: Peanuts, as shown in "Party Animal".
* PricklyPorcupine: She's the only porcupine on the show. Type B almost describes her perfectly, as she is certainly a victim and very shy, but she isn't shunned for her quills which normally don't get in the way unless death is involved.
* ProperlyParanoid: Considering [[EverythingTryingToKillYou what usually ends up happening]] after attempts at even the safest actions, Flaky's fears seem [[LovableCoward considerably less unreasonable]].
* RapunzelHair: The closest thing she has to TertiarySexualCharacteristics is her quills ressembling a head of long hair (and being treated like hair, such as in "Easy Comb, Easy Go" where a bottle of hair tonic causes it to grow).
* RedIsHeroic: A caring porcupine, and has red fur.
* SanitySlippage: "Without A Hitch", where she kills Flippy thinking he was going to kill her. She also loses her mind in "Snow Place to Go" momentarily as she treats a ceramic gnome as a real person.
* ShipTease: Taking the show's standards into account, she is this with Flippy, particularly "Party Animal" on both parts, "Without A Hitch" on Flippy's part and "Random Acts Of Silence" on Flippy's part, again.
* ShrinkingViolet: Flaky spends most of her time out of light because of her cowardly and quiet demeanor.
* SpikeShooter: Averted, despite the myth about porcupines shooting their quills. Though there has been occasions where her quills had been launched by something else. In "Rink Hijinks", for example, she is sucked into a floor waxer and slowly shredded. As she was being spun around her quills start to get launched everywhere, with a good chunk of them going straight into Disco Bear.
* TertiarySexualCharacteristics: Averted -- she's the only female character to not have pronounced eyelashes or wear female accessories like bows or jewelry. Possibly what led to the high amount of ViewerGenderConfusion before her gender was explicitly stated.
* ThreateningShark: She's been attacked by sharks three times over the course of the series: In "Wipe Out", "Happy Trails Pt. 2", and "Wingin' It". Interestingly, she's survived all three of these attacks, only to die to something else.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The tomboy to either Giggles'/Petunia's/Lammy's girly girl. They all have eyelashes and like girly stuff, but Flaky does not have visible eyelashes and doesn't engage in the activities they like. Her smoochie seems to indicate that she is more interested in physical sports (which is surprisingly atypical of her personality).
* TooDumbToLive:
** In "Happy Trails Part 2: Jumping the Shark", when she sat on an inflatable raft that Lifty and Shifty inflated. Because her quills touched the raft, it sank and ended up leading to Lifty's, Shifty's, and her own deaths[[note]]To be clear, her death did not come from drowning in the water or being eaten by sharks, but rather getting subjected to everyone's homicidal rage for her mistake[[/note]].
** Also happens in "Wingin' It", when she finally lands the abandoned plane. She attempts to slide down the emergency inflatable slide, only for it to pop, due to her quills[[note]]Again, she doesn't drown, but Godzilla comes out of nowhere to eat her[[/note]].
** In "Dunce Upon a Time", her fist hiding spot is a toaster... with untoasted bread already in there.
* VerbalTic: "Eheheheh...heh heh..."
* VomitDiscretionShot: In "Wingin' It", where the sight of a plane makes her double over and puke just offscreen. [[SubvertedTrope The puddle is seen in the next shot, though.]]
* VomitIndiscretionShot: In the "Wingin' It", after [[ProperlyParanoid being told by Mime that there's a chance that they'd get eaten by]] "[[ProperlyParanoid Godzilla]]", she hurries to the bathroom to toss her cookies. Due to some turbulence, however, she ends up being thrown around the room, vomiting all the while. Petunia, who entered the bathroom after she left, was naturally horrified, and probably thought it was something else due to the color...
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: In the HalloweenEpisode "Without a Hitch," Flaky's paranoia gets the better of her and she impales Flippy's eye with a shard under the belief that he was going to kill her (he wasn't).
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Flaky has an odd fear of baby chicks, more so than everything else. Guess what she encounters in the petting zoo in "A To Zoo". Weirdly enough, it seems to be just chicks. She doesn't appear to be particularly afraid of any other birds.

[[folder:The Mole]]
-->"Myopic, meandering marches most often lead to macabre mishaps."
-->Voiced by: N/A
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/themole.png]]

A blind lavender mole who wears sunglasses and a dark turtle neck sweater, with a mole on his face. His blindness drives the plot for many episodes, since the creators feel that he and Lumpy are the most inept Tree Friends for any given job. Paired with his blindness is also the inability to speak, possibly because of his sweater. He doesn't die often, likely because a producer for the internet seasons has a blind daughter. A lone ''[[SpinOff Ka-pow!]]'' episode, "Mole in the Big City", visits the idea that The Mole is an international spy, an actual character trait [[WhatCouldHaveBeen that was cut]] before he was introduced into the series.
----
* ADogNamedDog: A mole named "Mole".
* BeautyMark: Has [[VisualPun a mole]] near his nose.
* BehindTheBlack: Whenever he eats, due to having NoMouth.
* BlindDriving: Often seen driving, despite being blind. Naturally, this leads to several mishaps.
* BlindMistake: His biggest form of comedy. He has a tendency to mistake gruesome objects for more commonplace ones.
* BlindPeopleWearSunglasses: Mole is blind, and ambles about with a red-ended walking staff, turtleneck sweater, and rounded sunglasses similar to those of John Lennon. Being sightless, Mole rarely survives any of his appearances; of course, his fellow characters fare no better.
* ButtMonkey: Despite his high survival rate and surviving in most of his appearances, he has gone through some of the most agonizing deaths the show has to offer such as getting his head sliced in half by a saw, getting disintegrated while his car is destoryed by Splendid's laser, had his head crushed by the ground while in a drill machine, etc.
* CaptainOblivious: Even taking his blindness into account, there are many instances where he should be able to hear or feel that something is wrong, but doesn't.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Whenever he's seen in a car, he will either crash it or drive clumsily. Justified, as he's blind.
* TheFaceless: He always wear sunglasses and his turtleneck sweater [[NoMouth covers his mouth all the time]], making him appear expressionless at all times.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: No pants.
* HandicappedBadass: As seen in "Mole in the Big City", he is blind but a great spy.
* InformedSpecies: He doesn't really look like a mole, more like a bear instead.
* IAteWhat: He's the most frequent character to mistake body parts for food/produce, due to his blindness. He never seems to notice this.
* NoMouth: His mouth is covered by his sweater.
* NiceGuy: Apparently, seeing as how he was willing to take his date to many nice areas in "Blind Date", and in "Out Of Sight Out Of Mime", he gives trick or treaters a lot of candy. In another episode, he tries to get a baby bird back in the tree. He also likes to help others regularly, though he does sometimes cause them problems.
* RunningGag: The Mole is seen driving in almost every episode that he appears in season four.
* TheSpeechless: He's never said a single word in any of his appearances. He never even makes any vocal noises of any kind.
* SpellMyNameWithAThe: The only character to have the word "the" as part of his name.
* TheStoic: Due to the fact that his face is covered all the time and he's completely voiceless, he shows no emotion whatsoever, no matter what the situation. Justified, as he is blind, so he can't really see what's exciting, depressing, or scary.
* SunglassesAtNight: Possibly justified by the fact that he's ''blind.'' A trivia card mentions he has unseen blue eyes, though.
* TooDumbToLive: While most of his mistakes can be explained by his blindness, the fact that a blind person is doing all these things that require sight in the first place indicates that he's not the brightest bulb. Like Lumpy, a more common occurrence being [[InvertedTrope "Too Dumb For Those Around Him To Live"]](exceptions being "Who's to Flame?" and "A Sight For Sore Eyes").

[[folder:Russell]]
-->"Row, row, row your boat down a running river!"
-->Voiced by: Jeff Biancala (2002-2005), Francis Carr (2006-present)
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/htfrussell.png]]
[[caption-width-right:225:Russell's current design]]
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/russellfromabushhs33_1.png]]
[[caption-width-right:225:Russell's original design (with five o'clock shadow)]]

A swashbuckling turquoise sea otter pirate with a Jolly Roger hat, an eyepatch, a ripped red-striped shirt, black pants, two peg legs, and a hook hand. Russell dresses and talks like a pirate, with his vocabulary consisting almost entirely of different variations of the phrase "Yar!" He enjoys the sea and nautical activities, such as fishing, sailing, or hunting for treasure, and he even lives in a house boat (perched in a tree). His Season 1 design had him with [[PermaStubble five o'clock shadow]], but this has been retired since Season 2 onward.

Due to being well... a ''[[DigitalPiracyIsEvil pirate]]'', he most notoriously appears in {{Website/YouTube}}'s video on copyright that it's users are forced to watch if they get a strike on their channel.
----
* AerithAndBob: Along with Petunia, Russell is one of only two characters with an actual human name.[[note]]Russell does indeed rhyme with mussels, a food he commonly eats, but his name is the only one suitable for a real life name and it's not exactly obvious.[[/note]]
* AmbiguousDisorder: Seems to have some sort of insanity complex; perhaps a form of PTSD, as shown in "Get Whale Soon" and "Snow Place to Go".
* AnimalsHateHim: Frequently attacked and killed by sea creatures.
* APirate400YearsTooLate: The only pirate in this relatively modern universe.
* AxCrazy: After accidentally killing Lumpy in "Get Whale Soon", where he starts to viciously attack the insides of the whale in a poor attempt of revenge.
* BlueIsHeroic: Turquoise fur and on the side of good.
* ButtMonkey: A ton of episodes are centered around Russell getting brutally tormented and he's one of the show's bigger punching bags. He also has one of ''the'' lowest survival rates in the series, not surviving a single Season 1 and 2 episode. Only in the TV Series did the creators decide to give Russell a break, where he survives one of his three starring roles.
* CatchPhrase: "Yar."
* CartoonyTail: He has a flat tail like a beaver. Real-life otters have only slightly flat tails.
* DigitalPiracyIsEvil: In "Youtube Copyright School", he learns about the law of copyright on Website/{{Youtube}}.
* DemotedToExtra: After his major role in "Bottled Up Inside", Russell started to appear way less, and he never starred in a single episode in Season 4 or 5.
* TheDitz: He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. In "Who's Line is it, Anyway?" he accidentally eats a live puffer fish that suffocates his throat -- but rather than to get help, he still tries to continue fishing. In "All Bottled Up" rather than calling the ambulance after getting impaled in the chest by a bottle, he opted to ''drive'' himself to the hospital despite being in no condition to drive. In "Put Your Back Into It" he accidentally rips off Disco Bear's head with a rod, thinking that he's a fish, cooks it, and ''serves'' it to Giggles.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: Russell had a five o'clock shadow for season 1.
* EyepatchOfPower: He wears an eyepatch and is one of the heroes.
* {{Fanboy}}: In "Youtube Copyright School", he's a huge fanboy of Lumpy and the Lumpettes.
* FlatCharacter: Besides from being a stereotypical pirate, Russell doesn't have much character aside from his insanity complex that's only ''briefly touched'' in "Get Whale Soon" and "Snow Place to Go".
* FriendlyPirate: He likes sailing, fishing, and treasure and has a pirate hat, a peg leg, and an eyepatch. However, he never really commits acts of piracy or otherwise does anything particularly illegal or immoral, being more of a sailor than a pirate. The closest he ever gets is committing copyright infringement in "Youtube Copyright School".
* FullyDressedCartoonAnimal: He wears a red-striped shirt, black pants with peg-legs, a Jolly Roger Hat, and a HookHand. He's also one of the only two characters who are fully dressed most of the time, the other being Disco Bear.
* HookHand: Standard pirate equipment.
* GrievousBottleyHarm: Apart from the first four seconds, he spends all of the episode "Bottled Up Inside" with his bottle ship pierced through his stomach and chest.
* InformedSpecies: He looks more like a beaver than otter. Somewhat [[JustifiedTrope justified]], as Russell is a sea otter, which does have a flat tail.
* MisplacedWildlife: Being a marine animal among mostly forest-dwellers. Granted, he does spend a lot of his time near the sea and water.
* NiceHat: He's always seen wearing his Jolly Roger pirate hat.
* NeverBareheaded: He's only been seen without his pirate hat once.
* OddFriendship: With Lumpy in earlier seasons, as they were often paired together such as in: "Get Whale Soon", "Sea What I Found", and was a member in Lumpy's band at "In a Jam". It's also worth noting that Lumpy's death is what causes Russell to enter his "crazy state", [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone likely out of sorrow since his death was Russell's fault]] in "Get Whale Soon".
* PermaStubble: He had a five o'clock shadow back in Season 1 during the episodes "Whose Line is it, Anyway?" and "Off the Hook", but it's been retired starting from his appearance in the Season 2 episode "Get Whale Soon".
* PiranhaProblem: In "Something Fishy" when he brings his pet piranha to school and the ending of the "Youtube Copyright School" episode.
* SanitySlippage: Russell will often flip out and go insane when he's under a lot of stress.
* SeadogPegLeg: Russell has all the features of a typical pirate, including not one, but two peg legs.
* TalkLikeAPirate: "Yar!"
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Clams, as shown in his [[https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/happytreefriends/images/7/7b/Russell%27s_Season_1_Intro.gif/revision/latest?cb=20160416084405 season 1 character intro]] and his [[Recap/HTFWhoseLineIsItAnyway debut episode]].
* VerbalTic: "Yar!"

[[folder:Disco Bear]]
-->"Don't be a drag. Get down and dance! Can you dig it?"
-->Voiced by: Peter Herrman

----
* AssholeVictim: He deserves some of his deaths and injuries due to his obnoxious behavior.
* AttentionWhore: Probably the main reason why he was so panned by both creators and audience is because of how he would force himself into a scene, obviously aiming to be the main attraction of it.
* BalloonBelly: During "Ipso Fatso", due to being overweight.
* BearsAreBadNews: Subverted, he's not always a villain but he is a selfish egomaniac.
* BigEater: In "A Change Of Heart", he orders a lot of food at the café, leading to his heart attack and is constantly seen eating various foods on the show, morso than any other character (besides Nutty and Lumpy, of course).
* BigEgoHiddenDepths: "Easy Comb, Easy Go" hints that he fakes his egoism.
* TheBully: Downplayed. He often shoves anyone who's not Giggles or Petunia out of the way, and is shown to be very impatient with certain characters.
* CasanovaWannabe: Continuously flirts with the female characters throughout the series. The only female he has not flirted with is Lammy, because they have never interacted before.
* CatchPhrase: "Oh yeah."
* DeepFriedWhatever: His TrademarkFavoriteFood, which lead to bad consequences in "A Change Of Heart" and "Ipso Fatso".
* DiscoDan: Lives in a house with typical 1970's paraphernalia, such as shag carpeting and wood paneling. In early episodes a disco ball would appear out of nowhere to signal his arrival. He even wakes up to it on his alarm clock.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Disco Bear shares a lot of his starring episodes with other characters, and in a lot of them, he's not even ''the'' protagonist. However, in two of his TV Episodes, "Ipso Fatso" and "Easy Comb, Easy Go", Disco Bear has both of the episodes from his perspective and it's how his own struggles opposed to serving as a hindrance for the actual protagonist.
* EvilRedhead: Not evil per se, but he has been given the light of an antagonist who has caused the deaths of others because of his egotism and played the role as the main antagonist of an episode numerous times.
* FanDisservice: Anytime Disco Bear is seen shirtless. "Sea What I Found" shows how much it affects the other Tree Friends as well, as Pop has a shocked and disgusted look on his face when he sees Disco Bear walking along the pier in a speedo.
* FatBastard: When he temporarily gained a [[BalloonBelly fat belly]] in "Ipso Fatso". He goes back to being a skinny jerk after the episode ends.
* FatComicRelief: In "Ipso Fatso", where he is shown with a BalloonBelly due to eating a lot.
* FatIdiot: Disco Bear is very oblvious at times, especially to the fact that his targets clearly do not return the affection.
* FlatCharacter: Before the TV series, he didn't have much personality.
* FullyDressedCartoonAnimal: He wears a yellow disco suit and shoes.
* GagHaircut: In "Easy Comb, Easy Go", his afro gets cut off by the Mole, leaving only his sideburns. It's even made funnier when he tries to flirt with Giggles and Petunia after they fawn over Mime's new purple afro wig, only for them to laugh and point at Disco Bear for his lack of an afro, leading him to sulk away dejectedly.
* HateSink: While he worked too well, as the creators themselves used to dislike Disco Bear, one could tell that his obnoxious behavior and selfish personality is at least partially intentional, as the majority of his deaths are rather LaserGuidedKarma or a KarmicDeath.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: "Easy Comb, Easy Go" suggests he might not be as egotistic as he acts, and it's hinted many times that he suffers from shame of his own flaws.
* {{Jerkass}}: Has a massive ego and he has a tendency of shoving others. He was at his worst in "Easy Comb, Easy Go".
* LaserGuidedKarma: At the end of "Ski Ya, Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya!". During the beginning he belittles Flaky for her fears of skiing and inadvertently starts the torment she goes through throughout the episode by pushing her onto the ski lift. Right at the end, the board with the nail in which Flaky used to get down the mountain, stabs Disco Bear in the head, [[KarmicDeath killing him]].
* {{Narcissist}}: Admiring his good looks, to the point where his self-esteem drops at the sight of imperfections.
* OutOfFocus: Despite being one of the more recognizable characters, Disco Bear is somewhat less focused than the other common characters. He has only made a whopping 3 appearance roles in season 3, made only one appearance within the first season, and lot of the starring roles in Season 2 weren't really Disco Bear centered episodes. Season 4 however seemed to have finally {{Subverted}} this after getting another starring role in "Put Your Back Into It" that is completely to himself and playing a somewhat large role in the HalloweenEpisode. However, even after those episodes, Disco Bear outright phased from the show.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: For a character with a deep voice, he screams in a high-pitched voice when he's in pain.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: [[DeepFriedWhatever Anything deep fried.]]

[[folder:Lifty and Shifty]]
-->"No need to be thrifty, just take what's nifty and be back in fifty!"
-->Both voiced by: Kenn Navarro
[[quoteright:206:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/liftys_profile.png]]
[[caption-width-right:206:Lifty]]
[[quoteright:206:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gallery_01_11.png]]
[[caption-width-right:206:Shifty]]

Two kleptomaniac green raccoon twin brothers, one of which (Shifty) is always wearing a green fedora. Lifty and Shifty often scam or steal from unsuspecting Tree Friends (mostly [[TooDumbToLive Lumpy]]) in an effort to get rich. They are played as sinister characters with narrow eyes, dark mask-like markings around their eyes, wide grins, and trademark evil snickers. Often times they work together to steal or scam, though they will sometimes fight, kill one another, or abandon the other to die in favor of riches or goods.
----
* AlasPoorVillain: In general, they suffer from some of the lowest survival rates in the show and almost always die in whatever episode the pair appears in. And unlike some characters who die often, who are occasionally [[ThrowTheDogABone thrown a bone]], Mondo has never been nice to these two. It doesn't help that the reason they steal is implied to be because they are/were dirt poor.
* AscendedExtra: In the first few episodes, they appeared very sporadically and hardly had any appearances at all. However, in the TV Series, Lifty and Shifty started to appear more. In fact, they were in third place in the most amount of starring roles. They even soon became the closet things to being the villains of the show, besides Fliqpy of course.
* AssholeVictim: They die in most episodes they appear in and they are [[{{Jerkass}} Jerkass]] criminals.
** Shifty in particular tends to be this on the occations where he happily betrays his brother to save his own skin and almost immediately dies a brutal death.
* BigBadWannabe: They try to serve as villains for the show, but many other characters (such as The Cursed Idol or Fliqpy) prove themselves to be bigger antagonists.
* BullyingADragon: They often steal from characters who are responsible for the majority of the series' deaths such as Lumpy or Fliqpy. Of those, these instances would often lead to their deaths.
* ButtMonkey: They have ''the'' lowest survival rates out of all the characters, while Shifty himself has '''''the''''' lowest of all characters. They also have one of the most gruesome deaths, and they tend to be extreme or even overkill, which is saying a lot. Most of these are [[KarmicDeath Karmic Deaths]], but some come off as an AlasPoorVillain for them. Additionally, they have not survived a ''single'' starring role at all, and are the only characters to do so.[[note]] By a technicality, Lifty did survive a starring episode in "Cheesy Does It", but Shifty didn't and it was outside of the regular Internet series, where Lifty does not survive a single episode starring the duo.[[/note]]
* CainAndAbel: If an opportunity would present itself, Shifty would be the first in leaving Lifty to die. [[KarmicDeath It never ends well for him]].
* CantGetAwayWithNuthin: They have died in every episode of the internet series so far, [[KarmaHoudini but managed to do otherwise in some of the TV episodes]][[note]]Most notably "Concrete Solution", where they accidentally run over Lumpy and steal his wallet, and leave him to die as they drive off[[/note]].
* CheshireCatGrin: Often seen with this. One of their trademark features, along with their laughs.
* DeathByMaterialism: A common cause of death or injury for them. See the "Sea What I Found" example below for an example.
* DemotedToExtra: Despite [[BreakoutVillain becoming the shows' practical villains by the TV series]] and being [[SpotlightStealingSquad one of the characters who stole the entire season]], after the TV series, while they at least had enough luck to get more than just one or ''no'' starring roles, they have only made 3 appearances after the TV series. That's one of ''the lowest'' number of appearances in the post-TV era.
* DirtyCoward: Shifty. He'll gladly leave his brother to die or even kill him directly if the alternative endangers his own life or their loot.
* DiurnalNocturnalAnimal: While actual raccoons are mostly nocturnal, these two can be active during both day and night.
* TheDividual: Being identical twins and having the same voice and personalities, there's really not much separating the two.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: They initially had Pac-Man pupils like the rest of the characters in Season 1 and 2 and for a bit of the TV Series. Of course, some frames gave them their more distinct rounded pupils.
* EvilLaugh: They are very well known for their laughs, which crosses into GigglingVillain territory. There's even a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcuIPLq9iV4 compilation of them]] (as of July 23rd, 2011).
* EvilGenius: To a certain degree of "genius", Lifty seems to be this for the duo, as he is the one seen working on their van and handling equipment.
* FiveFingerDiscount: Though they have FourFingeredHands, they're pretty skilled at swiping stuff from the other Tree Friends.
* FreudianExcuse: It's revealed in certain episodes that the reason why Lifty and Shifty steal is because of their poor conditions, and whenever we see their home, it would look necessitous.
* FurryReminder:
** In ''As You Wish'', they are seen rummaging through the garbage like real raccoons do.
** Raccons are also known for being sneaky and opportunistic, traits which Lifty and Shifty are famous for.
* GreenAndMean: They have green fur and are crooks.
* GigglingVillain: They like to do evil laughs a lot.
* HarmlessVillain: Subverted. While most Tree Friends (barring Fliqpy) will not kill another intentionally in many cases, these two do not have any qualms about harming others or [[CainAndAbel each other]] to reach their ulterior goal. This includes straight-up murder.
* TheHyena: They are constantly laughing evilly, sometimes for no reason.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: They are sometimes seen helping others, and other times committing crimes.
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: Shifty always wears a hat.
* InformedAttribute: According to the "Collect Them All" section (From the "First Blood" DVD), Shifty has a gambling problem.
* {{Jerkass}}: They swindle, steal, and pillage from the other characters on a regular basis, even if it sends their victims to their deaths.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: They have been shown in episodes doing nice things, such as saving everybody with an inflatable raft.
* KarmaHoudini: While their survival rate is very low, there's a handful of times where they manage to steal something and get off scot-free, most notably in "Concrete Solution", where they steal Lumpy's wallet after accidentally running him over and end up being among the few survivors of the episode.
* KarmicDeath: Most of their deaths are a result of their thievery. Shifty also tends to suffer worse fates between the two for [[CainAndAbel attempting to kill his brother more often than not]].
** In "Don't Yank My Chain", they steal a car at a gas station. At the end of the episode, they get run over by a train when the car runs out of fuel right on the track. As a bonus, the original owner(s?) of the car are being dragged along the train when this happens.
** In "Sea What I Found", Shifty chooses to save the jewelry Lifty is carrying rather than Lifty himself when the latter gets pinned under an iron bar. The underwater volcano they're over soon proceeds to melt the gold, which covers Shifty. Lifty in turn survives relatively unharmed, only to drown when he tries to grab his now golden brother (presumably to sell).
* LaughablyEvil: Like the others, their deaths are mostly played for laughs. What makes these two even more hilarious is that they have it coming in many cases. Sometimes, you just have to root for the two.
* LaserGuidedKarma: "Laser-Guided" is a bit of an understatement... since they have the lowest rate of survival of all of the characters.
* LovableRogue: Downplayed a bit on the "Lovable" part, but sometimes, you just gotta root for them for mischief.
* NiceHat: Shifty wears a fedora to differentiate the two.
* NeverBareheaded: Shifty has almost never been depicted without his fedora, save for a few instances in some episodes, such as "Who's to Flame?" and "Junk in the Trunk".
* PetTheDog:
** In "Happy Trails Part 2: Jumping the Shark", when they try to save everyone by using an inflatable raft to bring everyone back to civilization. Too bad that didn't work quite as they planned.
** In "Class Act", as a FunnyBackgroundEvent, Shifty can be seen trying to pull a [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe badly injured]] Lifty away for help. [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness Considering what Shifty usually does to Lifty]], this really shows that they really do care about each other (at least DependingOnTheWriter).
** The two help Disco Bear with his balding problem in "Easy Comb, Easy Go". Probably the first instance where the two rascally raccoons make money honesty.
** In "Buns of Steal", Shifty saves Lifty (who got his foot accidentally nailed to their van) from falling off by nailing his other foot to The Mole's van. It doesn't save him from getting gutted by a fence and being pulled apart though. However, Shifty is shown to be apathetic towards his death.
* RascallyRaccoon: They are the ''de facto'' villains of the series.
* SiblingsInCrime: They are kleptomania brothers and work together.
* SiblingRivalry: They're sometimes seen fighting over who gets to rightfully keep things they have stolen.
* SkewedPriorities: They often prioritize stealing over surviving. In "Sea What I Found", for example, Lifty is about to reach the surface of the ocean when he notices that Shifty is made of gold, then goes back down to get him, resulting in Lifty drowning.
* TheSociopath: [[DependingOnTheWriter Sometimes.]] They often show NoSympathy when characters die (even themselves), a prime example being in "Who's to Flame?", where they take advantage of the city wide inferno to loot corpses. But other times they do feel sympathy and even try to save them, like in "Claw", where they try to save Cuddles from the eponymous claw machine.
* StupidEvil: They seem to basically steal because they just like stealing, often stealing things they couldn't possibly take or things that have no value (for instance, doing a WeightAndSwitch, and then trying to steal back the bag of sand and triggering the trap anyway).
* ThrowTheDogABone: After dying in every appearance they had in the internet shorts, the television series sees them surviving a few episodes.
* TogetherInDeath: Though their deaths may be spaced out, if one of the siblings die in an episode, the other one falls not too far behind. The only episode (or rather, Break) that averts this is "Cheesy Does It", where Shifty has his face melted from insanely hot pizza as Lifty suffers from nothing.
* TooDumbToLive: Their thievery usually goes against common sense, and usually gets themselves killed.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: A RunningGag in the series is them stealing various meats or cows.
* TheUnintelligible: While other characters can be understood if one listens to them closely enough, Lifty and Shifty usually only speak in complete gibberish. There HAVE been a few times where they can be understood.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Shifty tends to either kill or leave Lifty behind in order to escape with their loot.
* VillainProtagonist: They are the closest thing to villains besides Fliqpy and Mr. Pickels, and they are the main characters of most of the episodes featuring them, even getting the third highest amount of starring roles in the TV series behind Lumpy and Sniffles.

[[folder:Mime]]
-->Voiced by: Sarah Castelblanco
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2013_01_17_at_60955_pm.png]]

A silent purple deer (he is actually capable of speech like the others, just choosing rather to be silent) who is ([[MeaningfulName as his name suggests]]) a mime, complete with face-paint and a striped shirt. Mime is very talented at various circus and carnival acts, such as pantomiming, juggling, making balloon animals, fire breathing, and riding unicycles. His reluctance to speak often lands himself and others into trouble, and he will sometimes choose showmanship over actual helpfulness. He's known for his instant deaths compared to most other characters.
----
* BlushSticker: As part of his mime getup.
* ButtMonkey: Has only ever survived in ''one'' internet episode, that being: "[[Recap/HTFMimeAndMimeAgain Mime and Mime Again]]", his [[DebutQueue debut episode]]. He fares a little better in the TV series, where he is one of only two characters to survive more than one starring role.
* TheCasanova: Mime seems to attract both of the shows' prominent female characters. In "Easy Comb, Easy Go", Petunia and Giggles swoon over him, in "Who's To Flame?", they came together and have breakfast, and in "I Heart U", Mime and Petunia have a romantic interaction.
* CuteMute: He never says anything.
* DemotedToExtra: After the TV series. His appearances in season 3 were only a handful and he only had one featuring role in Season 4 and one in Season 5 (the "Still Alive" episodes), with no starring role in sight.
* ElectiveMute: In several episodes, he makes brief vocal sounds, such as snoring, gagging, or gurgling. He most likely chooses not to speak or scream out of showmanship. [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed]] since this often leads to the deaths of those around him. One notable example is "Who's To Flame?", when he calls 911 and doesn't actually speak to Lumpy on the other end.
* EveryoneHatesMimes: Because why else would a mime be in a show relying on pain and death? Zig-zagged InUniverse. While most characters seem to like him and his tricks, quite a few like Disco Bear and Flippy have always shown annoyance or perhaps even hatred towards Mime, "Mime to Five" and "Random Acts of Silence" being an example for both respectively.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Wears no pants.
* HisNameReallyIsBarkeep: His name is ''literally'' Mime, and he's a mime.
* NiceGuy: A good-natured and friendly deer who often uses his talents to cheer others up.
* NonIronicClown: He seems to be a cross between a mime and a clown. In addition to his mime act, he also makes balloon animals, juggles, rides a unicycle, etc. His debut episode alone shows him working as a hospital clown.
* NonverbalMiscommunication: He does not speak, but there have been several instances where he tries to make a phone call... and mimes over the line.
* OfficialCouple: With Petunia at first, before she started dating Handy.
* PerpetualPoverty: Unlike the other tree friends, it's frequently shown that Mime does not make a lot for a living. He is shown to live in a tent while everyone else is consistently shown to be living in houses and has no furniture or belongings to speak of (though being a mime, he likes to act like he does have furniture). "Mime to Five" has this as a plot point where he tries out a series of jobs to get money.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Due to never speaking, nobody can understand him.
* ThrowTheDogABone: [[spoiler:In the TV series, when a character has a "starring" role in an episode, expect them to be dead by the end. Mime, who has one of the lowest survival rates of the entire internet series (not counting shorts), survives both of his, even if the episodes themselves have [[DownerEnding downer endings]].]]
** In general, his survival rate is a lot higher in the TV series than the internet series.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Peanuts, for some reason, [[note]] Mimes are known for liking peanuts and deers would love to snack on them, so the decision makes sense somewhat. [[/note]] He "cries" when Lumpy smacks his peanuts away.
* YourMimeMakesItReal: It is sometimes shown that he can bring seemingly imaginary objects into actual reality, such as in the episodes "Easy For You to Sleigh" and "I Heart U". When Lifty and Shifty steal his "imaginary" safe while he's not home -- he comes back and somehow notices that it's gone.

[[folder:Cro-Marmot]]
-->Voiced by: N/A
[[quoteright:337:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cro_marmot_profile.png]]

A prehistoric yellow marmot who wears a leopard-skin loincloth and carries a club. Cro-Marmot is always seen encased entirely in a large block of ice (except for the irregular episode Dino-Sore Days). Despite this, he will often be seen doing activities (almost always off-camera), and is apparently known for his impressive talents, all unseen by the viewer. His main method of transportation is an ice cream truck.
----
* BehindTheBlack: ''Everything'' he does is never seen, because he is in an ice cube all the time.
* BlindingBangs: His hair covers up his eyes.
* CarryABigStick: Always seen carrying a club nearly as big as he is. Though, unusually for this series, it's never killed anybody due to being frozen in ice along with Cro-Marmot himself.
* TheCasanova: Sometimes female characters are shown fanboying over him.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Has been completely phased out of the show after the season three finale.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: His only on-screen death. In "Dino-Sore Days", he first gets his guts ripped out by a dinosaur, he then flees but comes to a cliff, which forces him to use his intestines as a rope to get across the other side. Only to be consumed by pterodactyl, which chews him up and feeds his remains to its chicks.
* CuteMute: He never says anything due to being inside of a cube, plus he's called "Sexy Mute" in "Intimate Spotlight".
* ADayInTheLimelight: Has only two starring episodes -- tied with Lammy and Mr. Pickles for the least amount (though, should the show continue, they'd definitely pass him eventually) -- that being: "Snow What? That's What!" and "Wipe Out!". He's notably the only character not to get a starring role in Season 2.
* EatenAlive: [[CruelAndUnusualDeath His death in "Dino-Sore Days"]].
* EarlyBirdCameo: Made two cameos in "Tongue Twister Trouble" and "Sweet Ride" before finally having his own episode, "Snow What? That's What!".
* FlatCharacter: Seen as more of a LivingProp than a genuine character. He is one of the least popular characters in the series.
* HumanPopsicle: Or Marmot Popsicle. He is stuck with a [[PerpetualSmiler perpetual smile]] and [[TheSpeechless never talks]].
* InformedAbility: As revealed in "Intimate Spotlight", he's an accomplished writer, painter, and pianist. Also, he has his own brand of foot powder, held a tour on Broadway, is known for his loud antics and energetic performances, and had been titled "Sexiest Happy Tree Friend" in 1992.
* InformedAttractiveness: In "Intimate Spotlight", he's referred to as the sexiest Happy Tree Friend, even though he looks rather plain compared to the other Tree Friends.
* LivingProp: Cro-Marmot has barely any episodes focused on him and [[BehindTheBlack does not do anything onscreen]]. He also shows no range of emotion either.
* MadeOfIron: He rarely dies because of him always shielded by his ice cube.
* OutOfFocus: Is the least focused-on character in the show.
* PerpetualSmiler: Has a smile always stuck on his face. Justified, because he can't change expression in his ice cube.
* TheSpeechless: Has literally no vocal sounds. Justified as he is always inside of a ice cube.
* TheStoic: Cro-Marmot does not show any expression whatsoever due to being stuck in an ice cube.

[[quoteright:202:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/newfliqpy.png]]
[[caption-width-right:202:Fliqpy]]

A war-torn green bear who wears a military jacket, beret, and dog tags. His rank is apparently sergeant (by US Army rank insignia; other countries and forces have different ones).

Flippy suffers from severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to the time he spent in the W.A.R (Weaponized Animal Regiment). While his sane "good" side tends to be one of the kindest and more sociable of the Tree Friends, his insane "evil" side will emerge whenever he sees or hears something that reminds him of war or death. Once in his evil state (usually dubbed "Fliqpy"), he turns into a highly efficient killing machine, slaughtering everyone around him. He is arguably the most popular character of the series among fans. He stars in ''[[SpinOff Ka-pow!]]'' alongside Splendid and Buddhist Monkey.
----
* AdvertisedExtra: Look at some of the promotional material. Flippy is almost always within the promos. [[https://wallpaperaccess.com/happy-tree-friends Take this for example.]] It makes out Fliqpy as he's the main character. He will almost always be in an advertisement or merchandise. He is almost as common in them as much as [[SeriesMascot Cuddles.]] In the actual show, he rarely appears. Compared to Splendid, he is not too rare but try comparing an amount of the common characters to Flippy's and say that Flippy appears just as often.
* AntiHero: A NominalHero in "Operation: Tiger Bomb".
* AntiVillain: [[SlidingScaleOfAntiVillains Type II]].
* ArtEvolution: The show took a while to settle on his appearance while flipped out. In his very first episode he actually looked just like normal Flippy. After that he was drawn with green eyes and crooked teeth for a while, until the latter were finally replaced by fangs.
* AxCrazy: His flipped-out state is a mass murderer who takes pleasure out of killing others.
* BadassAdorable: Flippy can still [[BewareTheNiceOnes put up a pretty tough fight even when he isn't flipped]], as we see in "Double Whammy".
* BearsAreBadNews: Flippy actually plays with this trope, being one of the nicest characters in his normal state. However, when he ''does'' [[EnemyWithin flip out]], he becomes an AxCrazy serial killer.
* BadPeopleAbuseAnimals: His kills also extends to non-sapient characters. In fact, his first kill was a Woodpecker.
* BearyFriendly: His good side plays this straight as an arrow, being gentle, helpful, and caring.
* BerserkButton: Anything that reminds Flippy of war can turn him into Fliqpy.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Flippy is one of the sweetest characters on the show, just as long as he doesn't turn into Fliqpy... He also kills Flaky in "Happy Trails Part 2" after she accidentally pops the raft with her quills. It's noticeably the first time he has intentionally killed someone when not in Fliqpy mode.
* BloodKnight: It's apparent that as Fliqpy, he really enjoys his kills.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: Fliqpy is a scary, murderous bear, but is a big softie in his "Flippy" persona.
* CerebusRetcon: A trait that was PlayedForLaughs and simply appeared to be badass to fans, which is his PTSD, turns out to be more tragic as seen in "Operation: Tiger Bomb" and seem to be caused by actual stress from being in a rather cornered situtation with the deaths of his friends, ([[KilledOffForReal and no, they do not come back]]) rather than a mere war experience of violence.
* ConservationOfNinjutsu: In "Double Whammy" an army of evil Flippys and a army of good Flippys are much less resistant than the originals.
* CreepyShadowedUndereyes: He gets a noticeable eyeshadow whenever he goes into Fliqpy mode.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: While he normally has black VideoGame/PacMan-like eyes like the rest of the tree folk, he gains green eyes when he flips out, which is a darker shade than his light green fur.
* CuteAndPsycho: Flippy is a cute and kind bear, but his Fliqpy self is completely insane.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: We aren't given too many specifics about his actual time in the W.A.R. until "Operation: Tiger Bomb" where it was revealed that the first time he flips out was after [[AccidentalMurder killing his teammates by accident]] and having to hide in one of their corpses to survive.
* DeathGlare: Fliqpy's default face whenever he isn't having a SlasherSmile.
* TheDeterminator: Fliqpy seems to try to kill Lumpy more obsessively than he does with the other characters, and goes to great lengths to do, the biggest examples being: "Remains to be Seen", "Hear Today Gone Tomorrow", and "By The Seat Of Your Pants", and in all of those episodes, he [[TheyKilledKennyAgain dies]] while Lumpy manages to survive.
* DemonicPossession: Fliqpy possesses Cub's bike in "A Vicious Cycle" after being struck by lightning holding it.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: In "Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow", Fliqpy tries to kill a deaf Lumpy with a helicopter. But once it reminds him of a dream he just had where he did the same to Flippy riding a unicorn/alicorn, he cries (while still being Fliqpy) and turns back into his good self.
** Also, as evil as he is, he appears to follow a moral code, as he has rarely, if ever, killed Cub, a child, Handy, a disabled person, or The Mole, a blind bystander.
* EvilLaugh: Fliqpy has a normally deep one, though he uses a more raspy variant in "Party Animal".
* EvilSoundsDeep: Fliqpy's voice is much deeper than Flippy's.
* {{Expy}}: Of Franchise/{{Rambo}}. In his first appearance, his kills mirror that of Rambo.
* EyeScream: Flaky stabs him in the eye in "Without a Hitch", suffering from her own SanitySlippage due to remembering her various deaths at his hands (keep in mind that he never flips out in the episode whatsoever). This leads to him getting hit by a truck.
* FangsAreEvil: One of Fliqpy's main distinguishing features are that his mouth is full of fangs.
* ForTheEvulz: Fliqpy's kills are merely just for [[ItAmusedMe his amusement]].
* FreudianExcuse: The sole reason why Fliqpy has an obsessive leisure for the carnage he causes is because of a very stressful incident during the war, which triggers the evil side of Flippy.
* GreenAndMean: He has green fur, but he'll only be mean if he turns into Fliqpy.
* HairTriggerTemper: Anything that reminds Flippy of war will trigger his evil side.
* HeavySleeper: As seen in "Easy For You to Sleigh" and "Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow". In the former, Lifty and Shifty drop a vase on the floor, accidentally turn on the TV, tie him up, and ''drive a forklift around his house'', and he doesn't even stir until [[TheLastStraw they try to steal his cookies and drop a crumb on the floor]].
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Wears no pants.
* HelicopterBlender: In "Hear Today Gone Tomorrow", he, along with Cuddles, is accidentally shredded by his helicopter.
* ImprovisedWeapon: Fliqpy has a knack for transforming nearby objects into lethal weapons, such as a movie projector, a propeller blade, a rose, a straw, [[SerialEscalation and even a Christmas cookie]].
* JekyllAndHyde: Flippy and Fliqpy are complete polar opposites of each other, yet Flippy is the only character who can hold his own in a fight with Fliqpy.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Zigzagged. As Fliqpy, he's an insane and sociopathic killer but as Flippy, he's a social, friendly and polite guy. Also, Fliqpy would spare some of the disable characters, [[ImprobableInfantSurvival Cub]], and Flaky from his kill list. [[SarcasmMode Man, wonder]] [[ShipTease why.]]
* KarmaHoudini: While Flippy often dies, the same can't be said for Fliqpy.
* KarmicDeath:
** In "Remains to be Seen", [[spoiler:Fliqpy first gets killed when he rams his truck to a tree, killing himself and everyone near him. Then he becomes a zombie and dies again when he gets his brain stuck to a leaf blower, causing it to inflate, which [[TheDogBitesBack attracts the attention of his zombified victims]], leading to a zombified Toothy biting his brain, causing it to explode.]]
** Also happens in "By the Seat of Your Pants", when he attacks Lumpy, [[spoiler:only for him to bounce off of Lumpy's shortened skin (used as a swim trunk) and be impaled by a flagpole (which he survives), where he then attempts to climb out of it, only to be [[CruelAndUnusualDeath roped down by Lumpy, disemboweling and killing him]]. Thus, Lumpy is now considered the third character to intentionally kill Flippy (the first be the zombified Toothy, and, indirectly, Flaky, though the latter killed him while he was not flipped out).]]
** In a rare case of ''Flippy'' (and not [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Fliqpy]]) suffering this, "Happy Trails, Pt. 2" has him [[spoiler:get shot into the sun along with Handy and Sniffles after murdering Flaky over an honest mistake and then tossing Lumpy out to lighten the rocket's load.]]
* KnifeNut: A bowie knife is his iconic killing tool; not that he needs it.
* LikableVillain: Despite his carnage, Fliqpy remains the show's most popular character. His tragic origins and PetTheDog moments also gives him a bit of likability.
* TheMillstone: In "Operation: Tiger Bomb", he's singlehandedly responsible for the deaths of his teammates and the mission going to hell in a handbasket... until he flips out for what is implied to be the first time and cleans house.
* MirrorMatch: Gets into an out-and-out deathmatch against his Fliqpy personality in "Double Whammy". [[spoiler: In spite of everything, Flippy manages to [[KillingYourAlternateSelf triumph over Fliqpy]]... only to [[DroppedABridgeOnHim suddenly get hit by a passing vehicle]] the minute he steps into broad daylight.]]
* MoodSwinger: While this is not his disorder, and merely triggered by his BerserkButton, he can go from heartwarmingly friendly one minute to a cold-blooded killer the next.
* NiceGuy: As Flippy, he's good-natured and friendly.
* ObliviouslyEvil: Flippy never knew that he was killing other Tree Friends until "Double Whammy".
* OfficerAndAGentleman: Flippy is polite, always happy to help his friends, and enjoys tea parties if his dreams are to be believed, and while he's not serving in the army anymore, he still wears the uniform and has retained the skills.
* PetTheDog:
** In "Party Animal", he doesn't kill Flaky despite killing everyone else around him (although this is possibly due to her having an allergy), and probably doesn't kill her in "Random Acts of Silence" either. This is often seen as FanService from the creators for the most popular FanPreferredCouple.
** One of the most famous example is in "Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow" in the episode, Fliqpy tries to shred Lumpy with his helicopter, he then imagines a familiar scene of his good self riding his unicorn, and cries before flipping back and deciding to save Lumpy.
* PerpetualSmiler: Fliqpy is always seen with a SlasherSmile on his face.
* PlotAllergy: Peanuts, in the episode "Party Animal".
* RealMenWearPink: Besides collecting weapons in his bunker-house, he likes flowers, tea parties, [[EverythingsBetterWithPenguins pink penguins]], and unicorns/alicorns. According to the "Collect Them All" section (From the "First Blood" DVD), Flippy also knits sweaters.
* RecurringRiff: Typically, when Flippy is triggered enough to start killing, his transformation is triggered by a quite literal RecurringRiff: a low, descending guitar tone and background sounds of warfare.
* TheRival: Fliqpy seems to be one to Lumpy. As the former seems to hunt him down more obsessively while the latter is responsible for a big portion of his [[KarmicDeath Karmic Deaths]]. Their "rivalry" comes to head in several episodes. Though this might veer towards more as an UnknownRival, as Lumpy always attacks out of self-defense.
** In the episodes: "[[Recap/HTFKeepinItReel Keepin' it Reel]]"[[note]]In which Fliqpy ([[KilledOffscreen seemingly]]) snaps his neck[[/note]], "[[Recap/HTFAViciousCycle A Vicious Cycle]]"[[note]]Where his spirit is able to murder him[[/note]], and "[[Recap/HTFInOverYourHedge In Over Your Hedge]]"[[note]]Where he rips his head off[[/note]] Fliqpy is able to kill him.
** However, in the episodes: "[[Recap/HTFRemainsToBeSeen Remains to be Seen]]"[[note]]Where Lumpy is able to kill Zombie!Fliqpy by inflating his brain[[/note]], "[[Recap/HTFHearTodayGoneTomorrow Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow]]"[[note]]Where Fliqpy's plans to kill him keep backfiring on him -- by the end, Fliqpy dies along with Cuddles[[/note]], "[[Recap/HTFDoubleWhammy Double Whammy]]"[[note]]Where Lumpy manages to find a way to subdue his split personality[[/note]], and most famously in "[[Recap/HTFByTheSeatOfYourPants By the Seat of Your Pants]]"[[note]]Where Lumpy ''intentionally'' disembowels Fliqpy when he is impaled on the flagpole[[/note]], Lumpy reigns victorious over him (or is at least able to survive his encounter).
*** Despite this however, Lumpy's relationship with regular Flippy seems to be positive -- except in "[[Recap/HTFJumpingTheShark Jumping The Shark]]", where Flippy along with Sniffles and Handy throw him out of their desert-island escape-rocket when viewing him as TheLoad. [[KarmicDeath Their rocket ends up crashing into the sun]] while [[ThrowTheDogABone Lumpy is none the wiser]]. Also in "Without a Hitch", where Lumpy accidentally runs over Flippy in the dark highway.
* {{Sadist}}: Considering his frequent {{evil laugh}}s, his near-constant SlasherSmile, and how gratuitously torturous some of his kills are, all signs point towards Fliqpy enjoying the carnage and pain he causes everyone around him.
* ScaryLibrarian: In "Random Acts of Silence", he only lives up to the "scary" part of it when he flips out.
* ShellShockedVeteran: His post-traumatic stress disorder had manifested itself into both schizophrenia (having hallucinations of his evil self and of many versions of himself and his evil self going into battle) and SplitPersonality (he becomes an entirely different person when something reminds him of war and he doesn't remember the things he's done as his other self either).
* ShipTease: Taking the show's standards into account, he is this with Flaky, particularly "Lesser of Two Evils" on both parts and "Without a Hitch" on Flippy's part. In his flipped out state in "Party Animal", "Random Acts of Silence", and "Double Whammy", he doesn't kill her. In fact, she snapped him out of his flipped out state once with her screams. Not that he hasn't ever killed her, however. He's murdered her in his debut, even.
* SlasherSmile: Fliqpy's mouth is always glued in this sort of evil grin.
* TheSociopath: Once he turns into Fliqpy, he is the only character of the main cast willing to kill people completely out of sadism.
* SociopathicSoldier: Fliqpy uses the skills and physical prowess his soldier training gave him to murder nearly everyone he can get his hands on, and he enjoys every minute of it.
* SplitPersonality: He's a NiceGuy in Flippy mode, and an insane murderer in Fliqpy mode.
* SpreeKiller: Fliqpy's ''modus operandi'' is brutally murdering whoever happens to be near him when he flips out, ''[[MirrorMatch even himself!]]''
* SuperMode: As of recently, Flippy can trigger Fliqpy mode on the word go, as seen in "Random Acts of Silence".
* SuperStrength: He once stopped the blades of a biplane with ''his bare hands'' during a flip-out.
* TakingYouWithMe: Fliqpy manages to pull this off in "Remains to be Seen", driving his truck straight into the Tree Friends, killing himself in the progress.
* ATasteOfDefeat: While Fliqpy usually [[TheBadGuyWins comes up ontop whenever he flips out and goes on a mass murdering spree]], there are a few instances where [[KarmicDeath he actually loses]].
** In "Remains to be Seen", after Fliqpy has killed the near entire cast of characters and as a zombie, has continued his rampage; [[CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass Lumpy]] accidentally sticks a leaf blower into Zombie Fliqpy's brain which causes it to expand in size like a balloon, and with help from Zombie Toothy, he [[PopGoesTheHuman explodes]].
** In "By the Seat of Your Pants" [[TheDeterminator Fliqpy spends the near entirety of the episode chasing Lumpy in order to kill him]]. By the end of the episode [[MakesSenseInContext Fliqpy is accidentally impaled by the top of a flagpole]] and has still managed to survive, what does Lumpy do? [[TheDogBitesBack He purposefully lowers the flag causing Fliqpy's body to be dragged along with it, effectively disembowling him]].
* TraumaButton: Has many relating to war that will cause his flip-outs; some examples being popping sounds, fire, sharp objects, and gunshot-like noises.
* VillainProtagonist: Though not intentionally, once Flippy flips out, he kills other characters without remorse or mercy.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: PTSD is a devastating mental illness, and it's very easy to feel sorry for Flippy, even though he has the second-highest kill count in the series.
* WouldHitAGirl: Would kill one, in fact. He's killed all of them except Lammy, who he has never interacted with currently.
* WouldHurtAChild: Aside from killing the other characters [[VagueAge who are ostensibly children]], he ends up killing Cub in the explosion at the end of "Flippin' Burgers". The creators also implied that Fliqpy killed him at the end of "A Vicious Cycle". [[/folder]]

-->"Super squirrel swooping in for the save!"

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/splendids_profile.png]]

A "heroic" blue flying squirrel who is always seen with a red mask. Splendid is a superhero with super strength/speed, heat vision, the ability to fly, and more. Despite his helpful nature, he always seems to hurt more than he helps. When not saving the world, he's quite the homemaker who enjoys baking and sewing. He is a comic book legend in-universe, and is an idol to Sniffles and Toothy in particular. His only weakness is a [[GreenRock green acorn-shaped rock]] called Kryptonut, which caused his only on-screen death throughout the whole series (The only other death being in "Class Act"). He has an evil twin/evil counterpart, Splendont, who ironically is much better at being a superhero. Splendid stars in ''[[SpinOff Ka-pow!]]'' alongside Flippy and Buddhist Monkey.
----
* AlliterativeName: ''''S''''plendid the Flying ''''S''''quirrel
* AntiHero: A NominalHero.
* AssholeVictim: In "Gems the Breaks", he is killed by Kryptonut, after murdering the Mole.
* BlueIsHeroic: He's a blue squirrel who is a superhero. Not a ''good'' one though.
* ClarkKenting: He is a news reporter for ''The Daily Acorn'' while not doing superhero stuff.
* CoolMask: A red one. He is never seen without the mask, even while ClarkKenting.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: He's only died onscreen once, but man, was it this -- he inhales a powdered version of Kryptonut, which causes his skin to flay itself off and him to start projectile vomiting out most of his organs. When he attempts to hold it in, he explodes with the force of a bomb.
* DesignatedHero: {{Invoked}}. He's a super''hero'' in title only. He only helps others to get attention, and all his attempts to "save" people will result in them dying.
* DestructiveSaviour: Often causes more problems than he solves.
* EvilTwin: Splendont, complete with [[ColourCodedForYourConvenience Color Coding For Our Convenience]].
* ExposedAnimalBellybutton: Given this for one shot in the episode "Wrath of Con".
* {{Expy}}: He takes inspiration from [[WesternAnimation/RockyAndBullwinkle Rocky the Squirrel]], as his design and character has some nods to Rocky.
* FailureHero: His efforts to do good often lead to mass destruction and deaths of others.
* {{Fartillery}}: In "Breaking Wind", his flatulence becomes a weapon of mass destruction.
* FlyingBrick: Has the standard set of superhero powers: {{Flight}}, SuperStrength, SuperSpeed, EyeBeams, SuperBreath, and SuperSenses.
* {{Gasshole}}: Look at all these tropes about "Breaking Wind". Have you seen any other character with a fart-related trope about them?
* HumiliationConga: Gets this in "Gems the Breaks", after Lifty and Shifty discover his weakness.
* InformedFlaw: See WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes -- he never shows having any problems from flying at great heights.
* {{Jerkass}}: He causes more problems than he does solve them and is only a hero just to get credit.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Whenever somebody he attempts to help dies, he's mostly only worried about getting into trouble than the fact that they just died.
* KryptoniteFactor: He's deathly weak to Kryptonut. Lifty and Shifty take advantage of his weakness and show him Kryptonut to ward him away so they can cause trouble.
* LackOfEmpathy: He doesn't actually care when someone he is trying to protect dies.
* MikeNelsonDestroyerOfWorlds: In "Breaking Wind", he inadvertently destroys the world.... by farting.
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: Comes with being a Superman {{Expy}}. This is made most obvious in "Class Act" and "Breaking Wind"; in "Class Act" he is killed when the school explodes, but in "Breaking Wind" he is [[NighInvulnerability completely unharmed]] when the ''Earth'' explodes.
* NighInvulnerability: Tends to survive things other tree friends can't, which is made abundantly clear in "Breaking Wind" where ''the entire planet explodes'' and he is unharmed. He has so far only died twice, one of which was due to KryptoniteFactor. To date he has only ever died in "Class Act" (confirmed by the creators) and "Gems the Breaks".
* PowerfulButIncompetent: He's a SupermanSubstitute who never manages to actually save someone (and if he does, they usually don't stay alive for long afterwards) due to a combination of stupidity, carelessness, and a lack of interest in his "job".
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: Although Splendid is manly, his screams are anything but.
* SitcomArchNemesis: Seems to have a one-sided example with the Mole in "See What Develops" and "Gems the Breaks". In both episodes he seems incredibly annoyed by him.
* TheSociopath: He is a superhero out of pure narcissism, and he doesn't actually care when someone dies under his watch.
* SupermanSubstitute: His FlyingBrick powers, ClarkKenting, and KryptoniteFactor all imply this.
* SuperStrength: Due to being a superhero, he can lift things much bigger than himself.
* SuperTeam: The Supremely Sensational Stupendously Spectacular Super Squad, or [=SSSSSuper=] Squad for short. Splendid is a member of the team.
* VomitIndiscretionShot: At the end of "Gems the Breaks", he vomits compulsively due to being exposed to Krypnonut.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: The ''Collect Them All'' section states that Splendid has acrophobia, a fear of heights.

[[caption-width-right:230:Mr. Pickels]]

A wooly violet sheep who wears a purple hairbow and a white wool sweater, and a pickle dressed in a top hat and mustache. Winners of the ''Vote or Die'' 10th anniversary new character contest held by the Happy Tree Friends website in early 2010, Lammy and Mr. Pickels are the newest additions to the HTF cast. While Lammy appears to be a relatively normal girl, her (seemingly imaginary) friend Mr. Pickels gleefully causes mischief with others when Lammy gets close to them, even killing them. As a disturbing twist, when Lammy tries to stop Mr. Pickels from harming others, it's Lammy unintentionally causing pain and grief.
----
* AxCrazy: Mr. Pickels (intentionally), and Lammy (unintentionally). Lammy seems to be unaware that her actions harm others, and that her imaginary friend Mr. Pickels is the one harming others.
* TheBadGuyWins: In both of Mr. Pickles' major appearances, he manages to kill any possible new friend that Lammy has made while she is left to either: accidentally becoming his accomplice to the murders or getting falsely arrested for his crimes.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Lammy is a friendly sheep, but (maybe?) is the one accidentally doing all the killing whilst she imagines Mr. Pickels is doing it.
* ButtMonkey: Lammy has either been killed or incarcerated in most of of her appearances.
* TheCassandra: In her debut episode, no one believes her when she claims that Mr. Pickles is killing everyone.
* CompanionCube: In his normal state, Mr. Pickels is shown to be a regular pickle that Lammy considers her ImaginaryFriend.
* TheCutie: Lammy is a sweet and loving sheep who - despite her implied schizophrenia - just wants to get along well with others. Makes her even cuter once you combine that with her signature "baahs".
* EyeScream: In their debut episode, Lammy is shot in the eye ''with a taser'', and then ''electrocuted''. We later see her with her eye horribly swollen, dark red, and [[{{Squick}} covered in welts]]. If you pause while she's being tased, you'll notice she has a crack in her skull.
* GreenAndMean: Mr. Pickels, a psychotic murderous pickle.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Lammy only wears a wool shirt.
* KarmaHoudini: Mr. Pickels has yet to suffer any consequence for killing any of Lammy's new friends (asides from being KilledOffscreen by Lumpy in ''[[Recap/HTFAllInVein All in Vein]]'').
* KilledOffscreen: Mr. Pickels is partially eaten and Lammy is crushed like a soda can along with [[TheCameo Truffles]] by Count Lumpy off-screen in "[[Recap/HTFAllInVein All in Vein]]".
* NotSoImaginaryFriend: "Royal Flush" seems to show that Mr. Pickels is not just in her imagination, as he kills Flaky while Lammy's whereabouts are accounted for. Note that Mr. Pickels pulls the rug from under Flaky when he's ''supposed to be in the toilet''.
* NiceGirl: Lammy is a loving and sweet girl... whenever she isn't accidentally killing people.
* NiceHat: Mr. Pickels wears a black hat.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Lammy's attempts to stop Mr. Pickels end in death and disaster.
* MisplacedWildlife: Lammy is a barn animal who lives with forest-dwellers.
* OutOfFocus: Since they were relatively new characters in the series' run, they're clearly one of the more obscure characters [[note]]For example, they were the only main characters to not appear in "Class Act"[[/note]]. However, even then, the show treats them less as actual staples and more as props. They only had two episodes centered around them, which is technically ''less'' than Cro-Marmot, who has six. All other times when they do appear, they are [[LivingProp Living Props]], literally in Mr. Pickels' case. Heck, Truffles, a minor character and the loser of "Vote or Die" has appeared in more episodes than the two.
* PokemonSpeak: Lammy speaks with a sheep's bleat. It's most pronounced when she's laughing or panicking.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Yes, it's meant to be "Pickels."
* SplitPersonality: It's implied that Mr. Pickels is the result of Lammy having Dissociative Identity Disorder.
* SweetSheep: Lammy is a sheep and is a loving and caring girl... as long as she isn't accidentally killing people.
* TertiarySexualCharacteristics: Lammy has long eyelashes and, like Giggles, wears a bow on her head. Mr. Pickels, on the male end of the spectrum, wears a top hat and has a mustache.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Lammy is the girly girl to Flaky's tomboy. Lammy wears a bow and has eyelashes, but Flaky has neither of those and does not like some of the girly things Lammy likes.
* VerbalTic: Her laughter, cries, or screams are wavering and elongated, sounding very much like how an actual sheep "baahs" when they bleat.
* TheVoiceless: Mr. Pickels never speaks.
* {{Yandere}}: A platonic example, as Mr. Pickels doesn't like when Lammy shows affection to others, which is what sets off his killing sprees in the first place.
