Bartender of the Cat's Tail Tavern and self-proclaimed "Wine Industry Slayer." Deeply embarrassed by the drunken antics of her father Draff, leader of the hunting bands of Springvale, she has set off on a one-girl crusade to sabotage Mondstadt's wine industry, starting with working as a bartender at Cat's Tail, where she busies herself making bad-tasting alcoholic drinks. Diona brews healing and defensive concoctions to the party when not shooting down her foes. Her Elemental Skill, fires a pair of icicles and at the same time envelops the active character with a cat-shaped shield that additionally infuses their attacks with Cryo, with its held form adding three projectiles and further boosting the shield's resilience. Her Elemental Burst, ''Signature Mix'', tosses a flask of ice-cold beverage that creates a Drunken Mist field which periodically blows gusts of cold wind that simultaneously damages enemies and heals allies within.[[note]]When fully upgraded, her Skill can now automatically cast less potent shields on nearby allies, as well as adds a speed boost and reduced stamina consumption effects to the "main" shield; and the Drunken Mist can now inflict an Attack penalty on foes, restore some of Diona's Energy once it ends as well sharply reduce the charging time of her aimed shots, and boost either the active character's Incoming Healing while they have no more than half their HP or their Elemental Mastery otherwise.[[/note]]

* BarrierWarrior: Her Skill shoots a pair of icy projectiles that home in on enemies; upon contact, they set up a cat's-head-shaped shield with heightened resilience against Cryo damage; in its held form, she can fire five projectiles and enjoy an additional 75% boost to the shield's Damage Absorption Bonus in exchange for extending its cooldown time from six seconds to fifteen. Her second Constellation upgrade, ''Shaken, Not Purred'', adds a 15% boost to both the projectiles' damage and the shield's Damage Absorption Bonus, as well as allows Diona to create a shield for any co-op ally with half the Damage Absorption Bonus of the main shield and lasts five seconds.

* BigotryException: Not exactly "bigotry" ''per se'', but despite her hatred of alcohol, the people that drink it, and the people who manufacture it, she seems to have a high opinion of Lisa and gets along with Eula.[[note]]although with the latter, we only have Eula's word for it, as Diona currently lacks a voiceline about her[[/note]] Alchemical Ascension event shows she is also capable of getting along with Venti who even provides her an idea of an alcoholic beverage that doesn't make people drunk which she is completely in favor of.

* BlackAndWhiteMorality: {{Downplayed}}. Her views on alcohol can be summed as this: those who don't drink it or contribute to its production are good, while alcoholics, bartenders, wineries/brewers, and even bards who entertain drunkards are bad. Granted, she is shown to [[BigotryException make exceptions for the latter]], such as [[DaddysGirl still caring about her oft-smashed father]], getting along well with her employer Margaret, having a relatively high opinion of Lisa, being stated to bond with Eula, and even inviting Venti to taste test her drinks.

* CombatMedic: Her Burst creates a Drunken Mist field which simultaneously deals Cryo damage to all enemies and heals all characters within its radius. Her fourth-ascension passive, ''Drunkards' Farce'', adds the ability to inflict a 10% Attack penalty on enemies; her fourth Constellation upgrade, ''Wine Industry Slayer'', also adds a 60% reduction to the charging time of Diona's aimed shots, and her sixth, ''Cat's Tail Closing Time'', allows it to either increase allies' Healing Bonus while they have no more than half their HP or increase their Elemental Mastery by 200 points otherwise.

* DaddysGirl: Diona adores her father except when he has been drinking. So much so that this is her motivation to destroy Mondstadt's wine industry.

* ADayInTheLimelight: The "Waterborne Poetry" event is somewhat of one for her, as part of the plot revolves around her gift given to her by Callirhoe and their shared history.

** To Chongyun. Both are youthful Cryo Vision holders who excel at their respective occupations thanks to a unique gift they possess, but which both of them take grievance with. In Chongyun's case, however, he's a Claymore-using exorcist who's aware of his overabundance of Yang energy and bothered by it because he believes if he continues to rely on it as a crutch, he'll be unprepared for when he runs into a truly powerful evil spirit. As for Diona, she is a bow-using bartender who was blessed by a fairy to always make delicious drinks, something she writes off as a dream to this day, and can't stand it because it counteracts her goals to destroy Monstadt's wine industry. Paimon even lampshades that the two are rather similar in the "Waterborne Poetry" event. The main difference is that, unlike Diona, Chongyun knows he has this blessing, while Diona doesn't know why she keeps making delicious drinks no matter how gross she does them.

* GargleBlaster: She intended for her alcoholic concoctions to be so nasty, that anyone unfortunate enough to drink it would swear off alcohol for the rest of their lives. [[SubvertedTrope Her results, on the other hand]], turn out anything but the dreadful drinks she is trying to make.

* HypocriticalHumor: In one route of her Hangout Event tree, Diona gives her usual spiel about hating alcohol and wanting to make disgusting drinks, but if the player chooses to suggest that her cocktails aren't that special and that they'd prefer playing with cats to drinking them she'll be hopping mad. Then again, kind of justified given her {{tsundere}} attitude.
* {{Irony}}: She hates alcohol and wants to ruin the wine industry in Mondstadt, hence her self-proclaimed title of "Wine Industry Slayer." The game describes her mixing methods as impeccable, and her Character Details section states that she does not actually intend to make delicious cocktails. Therefore, her products are contrary to her goals.

** Nimrod has a severe drinking problem that he refuses to admit to under the reasoning that [[InsaneTrollLogic everyone in Mondstadt is a heavy drinker]]. This problem of his has evidently put his married life on the rocks, with Eury's heavy disapproval of his habits prompting him not to try and do something about it, [[DramaticallyMissingThePoint but to do it behind her back.]] To add insult to injury, he'll often confess to his drinking to the nuns, only to get right back to it.

** One branch of Diona's Hangout Event has Diona needing to rescue her father Draff because, similarly to Wyatt, he snuck into a hilichurl camp to get an ingredient for Diona after having only a "few drinks." Granted, [[DrunkenMaster he was able to pull it off]], but it was still pretty boneheaded.

* KidsHateVegetables: Her least favorite food is this. Somewhat {{justified|Trope}} given cats (and quite possibly Kätzlein, like herself) are carnivore.

* LethalChef: Subverted. Becoming a bad bartender who purposely makes bad drinks is her life goal; unfortunately, Callirhoe's {{bless|ed With Suck}}ing causes all her attempts at making bad drinks fall well below expectations, as [[CordonBleughChef her customers find them delicious]]. It's a telling sign when in her Hangout Event, the Traveler succeeds in making a truly terrible drink when she can't, much to her dismay.
** It's played straight when it comes to food, though. In her and Xiangling's voice lines for each other, they exchanged knowledge of ingredients; while Xiangling's intentionally horrible food combination (as requested by Diona) ends up as praised, Diona's recipes for Xiangling, naturally, end up coming out as awful.
* MisplacedRetribution: DaddysGirl she is, she blames Mondstadt's wine industry and alcohol for Draff's drinking problem instead of Draff's personal failings, and thus tries to destroy the industry by being a bartender that mixes bad drinks to turn people away from alcohol. Combined with how she thinks making people think alcohol tastes bad would turn the people away from it--which is a thought common to children--it shows how childish her thought process still is.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: According to her "Vision" anecdote, after saving her father from a grueling storm, she offered to mix him a drink to ease his injuries, and he gladly appreciated it. At her core, she still loves her father, even if she may not like to see him being drunk (and she still looked down on alcohol after that incident), and it was this devotion that earned her a Cryo Vision.

* SlidingScaleOfGameplayAndStoryIntegration: Befitting her food-related profession, her utility passive, ''Complimentary Bar Food'', gives her a 12% chance to cook HP-restoring dishes twice.
* SpringtimeForHitler: While Diona intentionally tries to [[GargleBlaster mix horrible drinks]] to turn her customers off from alcohol, they always somehow end up tasting amazing, making her an incredibly popular bartender. She only applied as a bartender as her first step in her plan to destroy Mondstadt's wine industry, which has only really had the opposite effect.

* SupportPartyMember: Diona offers a bit of everything -- healing, low-cooldown [[AntiDebuff cleansing]], and low-cooldown shielding.

** In one of the scenarios of her Hangout Event, choosing the StealthBasedMission option to sneak into a Hilichurl tribe will have Diona show concern for the Traveler's safety while simultaneously denying said concerns:

** She acts like this towards the Cat's Tail's cats as well. Despite routinely expressing how annoying they are and how irritating it is that some customers are only there to play with the kitties, it's noted that she understands each individual cat's personality very well, orders them custom toys and food, and personally cares for them when off shift.

* UnusualHiringPractices: Margaret hired the underaged Diona for her Cat's Tail Inn just because Diona's cat-like features were just too cute to not go with the cat-themed tavern.

* VagueAge: Diona talks like a child, looks like a child, and acts like a child, but she is a bartender, and the legal drinking age in Tevyat is late teens or early twenties. It is possible that the Cat's Tail hired her as a server despite not being able to legally consume it, which would explain this. The "Of Drink A-Dreaming" event supports this, as while the Traveler is only allowed to brew non-alcoholic drinks, the reasoning has nothing to do with their apparent age. It helps that Diona is likely to have never actually drunk her own mixes as she intended them to taste horrible. During the "Waterborne Poetry" event, Noelle hesitates to mention about the kiss between the spring fairy and the boy in the book ''Heart of Clear Springs'' with Diona listening because she isn't sure whether Draff had given parental guidance on it, suggesting that Diona does look her age.

* SureLetsGoWithThat: When the Traveler, Paimon, and Sucrose show up to the tavern to learn to play the trading card game, Margaret tells Diona to teach them how to play. Diona quickly declines, bemoaning that as the TCG grows in popularity, more people will show up to play, and they'll start drinking more, and Mondstadt's alcohol industry will begin to boom, something she desperately wishes not to happen. Shuyun, "interpreting" Prince, says that actually players will start drinking less if the TCG grows in popularity as they'll want to have access to their full faculties, meaning that the TCG becoming popular could mean the end of Mondstadt's alcohol industry. When a shocked Diona asks if that's true, Margaret quickly butts in with a "Sure, why not?" and tells Diona again to teach you the basics of the game.

* JerkassToOne: Inverted. He is on the receiving end from Zhongli, from all people. As both are the characters who know each other the longest and are the only surviving Archons from the very first roster, Zhongli has known him enough time for Venti to press all his buttons. Zhongli often refers to Barbatos as "that drunkard."

In defiance of his bad luck, Bennett tries his best to contribute to his party with damage-dealing and providing support. His Elemental Skill, ''Passion Overload'', is a fiery slash he can charge to increase his hits to three, with the third hit able to knock back foes but also himself, while his Elemental Burst, ''Fantastic Voyage'', is a jumping slam that burns surrounding foes and generates an Inspiration Field, within which allies are imbued with a Pyro effect and can either heal them if their HP is low or boost their Attack otherwise.[[note]]When fully upgraded, he gains an Energy Recharge boost whenever his HP falls very low; the first-stage charged form of his Skill can now launch a third fiery slash without the knockback of its second-stage form; and the Inspiration Field can now shorten the cooldown of his Skill, negate his knockback from his third strike, and infuse melee units' attacks with Pyro.[[/note]]

** Also, unlike most healers, Bennett's Burst is his only method of doing so, and even then it is limited to allies within the Inspiration Field. This makes him an often weak pick in co-op play, since he forces other players to group around him in order to reap the benefits, and Domain challenges often force parties to spread themselves out across the battlefield, where anyone who is injured will have to run to him for healing, in contrast to the likes of Barbara, Qiqi, or Kokomi, who can [[LifeDrain heal their allies simply by attacking]]. In essence, picking Bennett in co-op usually demands a level of coordination that's difficult to attain, let alone master.

* AreaOfEffect: Besides dealing Pyro damage upon impact, his Burst creates an Inspiration Field that either heals his allies whenever they have less than 70% HP or bestows an Attack bonus equivalent to that of Bennett otherwise. Bennett's first Constellation upgrade, ''Grand Expectation'', removes the HP-based restriction, in addition to a further Attack boost based on 20% of Bennett's.

* ChargedAttack: In its base form, his Skill is a simple Pyro-enhanced slash; when charged, each level increases his number of hits, and at the second and highest level, the third slash creates an explosion that blows enemies and himself away (though mercifully he will take no damage), with increasing cooldown time depending on charge level (five seconds in its base form, with an additional 2.5 per charge, for a maximum of ten). His first-ascension passive, ''Rekindle'', reduces its cooldown time by 20% (hence at least four seconds plus two per level, for a maximum of eight); that for his fourth, ''Fearnaught'', allows the Inspiration Field to further halve the cooldown time (hence at least two seconds plus one per level, for a maximum of four), in addition to negating Bennett's blowback from the second charge; and his fourth Constellation upgrade, ''Unexpected Odyssey'', allows the first-charge form to launch another fiery slash with damage worth 135% of the second slash, hence identical to the third slash of the second-charge form sans the blowback.

* CooldownManipulation: His fourth-ascension passive, ''Fearnaught'', confers upon the Inspiration Field the ability to halve the cooldown time of his Skill, in addition to flinching resistance.
* CoveredWithScars: Downplayed. He does have a large scar on his left shoulder, but no other real visible ones after that.

* FlamingSword: His Skill coats his sword with fire and can be {{charged|Attack}} up to two levels for as much as [[ThreeStrikeCombo three slashes]], with the third triggering an explosion. His fourth Constellation upgrade, ''Unexpected Odyssey'', allows him to continue his half-charged slash sequence with another strike with a normal attack; this strike is identical to the Skill's fully-charged form, but it doesn't trigger an explosion and deals lesser damage.

* HealItWithFire: ''Fantastic Voyage'' is able to heal party members for up to 70% of their HP. Furthermore, gaining his Pyro vision allowed Bennett to close his own wounds and save his life shortly after gaining it.

* IronicName: Bennett is a derivative of Benedict, meaning "blessed." [[BornUnlucky He's anything but.]]
* JackOfAllStats: His stats are quite balanced and his skillset can fill all the role for the team by himself if needed, [[SlidingScaleOfGameplayAndStoryIntegration Benny's adventure team consisting of only himself]].

* LockedInARoom: Or in his case, a jail cell with Razor. This occurred during the Windblume event, but he and Razor hold no animosity towards each other for this incident, with Bennett even giving Razor his food.

* MeaningfulName: He's named after the [[https://radiopaedia.org/articles/bennett-fracture?lang=us Bennett Fracture]], which is why he is so associated with the thumbs-up sign.

* MusclesAreMeaningless: He may have a slender build but is strong enough to launch normally unlaunchable enemies like Mitachurls, Geovishaps, etc. into the air with his half and fully charged ''Passion Overload'' Elemental Skill.

* NecessaryDrawback: He can only heal HP up to 70%, and even that is locked to his Burst. A wise decision in hindsight, as it can also deal huge damage on enemies and apply a big attack boost to allies and a burning effect on everyone around the circle. (Because then there would be no point in using dedicated healers like Diona, Qiqi, Barbara, and Kokomi).

* ParentalAbandonment: His character story shows that his birth parents abandoned him when he was a baby, and someone from the Adventurer's Guild took him in.
* PerenniallyOvershadowedBirthday: Bennett is already TheJinx with a lot of bad luck, but to compound this even further, his birthday is on February 29th, i.e. UsefulNotes/LeapDay, so he was literally BornUnlucky. He laments that he can't fully celebrate his birthday every year like everyone else, so to compensate for his "lack of a birthday", he sends his birthday letters to the Traveler on February 28th instead.

* PowerUpLetdown: Bennett's sixth Constellation upgrade, ''Fire Ventures with Me'', allows the Inspiration Field to infuse Pyro onto his allies' regular attacks. Unfortunately, this is prone to messing with your Elemental Reactions and/or infusions as well as physical damagers, and once the upgrade is activated, it is permanent and you're stuck with it forever. While the effect is useful in certain team compositions, it reduces the number of compositions Bennett can be on, leading people to either regret having activated it, or not activate it and be forced to deal with the permanent "!" icon on their Characters screen. That said, characters whose Elemental Talents have a "conversion" effect (such as Xiao, Itto, Ayato, the Raiden Shogun, Nilou, etc.) are immune to this effect, as their innate element cannot be overridden while the Burst is active; as it stands, those whose Talents merely offer "infusion" effects (e.g., Keqing, Chongyun, Ayaka, full-Constellation Kazuha, etc.) will have these still overridden.

* SignificantBirthdate: Bennett is so unlucky even his birthday is on [[UsefulNotes/LeapDay February 29th]]. The game at least celebrates his birthday on February 28th whenever it is not leap year.

** In-story, Bennett is considered horribly unlucky and bad to be around. Using Bennett is a case of making damn sure luck has nothing to do with what happens. His Skill can backfire if he charges too long, while his Burst can make your characters trigger Elemental Reactions you don't want, especially if you have a full Constellation on him, and the Pyro application can make you take a far worse hit if an outlier lands a shot.

* SpellBlade: His sixth Constellation upgrade, ''Fire Ventures Within Me'', allows the Inspiration Field to imbue a Pyro effect on melee (i.e., sword, claymore, or polearm) fighters. This can be [[PowerupLetdown a letdown]] in certain situations, however, as certain characters would prefer to keep their normal attacks deal physical or other elemental damage, and this effect may ruin said strategy.

* StatusBuff: The Inspiration Field can either boost the party's Attack equivalent to Bennett's base stat thereof while their HP is above 70% or heal them otherwise. In addition, his fourth-ascension passive, ''Fearnaught'', allows it to halve the cooldown time of his Skill as well as negate the blowback from its fully-charged form.
* StepfordSmiler: If Fischl's voiceline about him is any indication, Bennett's constant misfortune does cause him grief beneath his carefree attitude, but considering that this is [[{{Chuunibyou}} Fischl]] we're talking about here, this should be taken with a grain of salt. Then again, since it's [[BunnyEarsLawyer Fischl]] we're talking about, there may be a kernel of truth to her claim after all.

Mona specializes in hit-and-run spellcasting, in addition to a unique form of sprinting, ''Illusory Torrent'', which drenches any foe she comes across. Her Elemental Skill, ''Mirror Reflection of Doom'', creates a Phantom in her image that draws enemy aggression and gradually damages them before exploding, as well as allows her to move backwards in its held form. This normally isn't a big deal since the only party member who's at risk of taking damage is the active one, but in situations where the entire party can take damage, her limitations become more noticeable.
* AnimalMotifs: Cats, naturally. Being a CatGirl aside, she works at the Cat's Tail Bar, has a pouch in the shape of a cat's paw, and her Constellation is a cat. Not to mention the palms of her gloves resemble a cat's paw, the bottom of her shoes have a cat's paw design, and if the way her shoes are designed is anything to go by, she also walks on the balls of her feet, similar to a cat.
* BadassAdorable: Diona is a cute little CatGirl who, despite her age, is still good at using her bow.

With a [[SeeThruSpecs special monocle]] borrowed from Lisa that allows wearers to discover invisible beings, he, the Traveler, and Paimon find out that children are more likely to have them, while adults tend to stop having such innocent imaginations once they grow up.

Former Cavalry Captain of the [[Characters/GenshinImpactKnightsOfFavonius Knights of Favonius]] and proprietor of Dawn Winery, the largest of its kind in Mondstadt, as well as its flagship tavern Angel's Share. Having resigned from the Knights in disillusionment after some of his superiors tried to cover up details surrounding the death of his father Crepus in a monster attack orchestrated by the Fatui, he nevertheless continues to uphold his vow of protecting Mondstadt in his own way by moonlighting as a vigilante. After visiting his tavern with the bard Venti, he's one of the most important allies the Traveler makes in their arrival to Mondstadt, helping them and the Knights in the "Stormterror" incident.\\

Diluc takes his training as a Knight to heart long after his departure with fiery slashes. His Elemental Skill, ''Searing Onslaught'', can be used up to thrice in succession within a window of time before they enter cooldown phase, allowing him to string in regular attacks in between, while his Elemental Burst, ''Dawn'', unleashes a firebird that can drag away small- to medium-sized foes and temporarily infuses his regular attacks with Pyro.[[note]]When fully upgraded, he gains a damage boost against foes with over half their remaining HP, as well as up to three stacks of a power and speed buff whenever he is attacked; and using his Skill in a synchronized manner increases their damage potency, as well as that to the speed of his next two regular attacks once it enters cooldown.[[/note]]

* TheAce: Diluc received his Pyro Vision at the tender age of ten, and as a Knight of Favonius he trained himself so hard he rapidly rose up its ranks until he became the youngest Cavalry Captain in the Knights' history before he even turned eighteen. Even after his resignation, he is still renowned as the "uncrowned king of Mondstadt" (for being the owner of its largest wine production) and one of its strongest fighters.

* AllThereInTheManual: The incident that drove him and Kaeya apart receives elaboration late into their character stories, as well as in the official manga, before it was discussed in-game during the "Hidden Strife" event.
* AloofAlly: With Jean and Kaeya, whom he still clearly cares for despite their soured relationship after his resignation from the Knights. He is willing to collaborate with them for a common goal of protecting Mondstadt and foiling the plots of those who would threaten it.

** To a lesser extent, the phoenix. Gameplay-wise, his Burst summons a firebird that flies onto his enemies, and his fourth-ascension passive is named ''Blessing of Phoenix''. Story-wise, following the death of Crepus in a Fatui-orchestrated attack and the subsequent coverup by an inspector of the Knights (who was later outed as a traitor) and Kaeya's confession that [[spoiler:he is a spy from Khaenri'ah]], the young and idealistic AllLovingHero died, from which arose a vengeful ByronicHero; after years of attacking Fatui strongholds to learn the truth about his father's death, he returned home and swore to become its protector in the shadows, completing his rebirth as the famed "Darknight Hero." Fittingly, Diluc is a Pyro Vision holder, and the phoenix is [[PlayingWithFire often associated with fire]].
* AmbiguousSituation: Eagle-eyed players have noticed that the tea set on the dining table in Dawn Winery Manor is identical to the one used by the powerful Hexenzirkel witch N. The gilded patterns on her tea set also matches the carpet beneath the dining table and the shoulders of Diluc's default coat. This implies that N has been in contact with Diluc, though the nature of their relationship remains to be seen.
* BadassInANiceSuit: The "[[VigilanteMan Darknight Hero]]" spoken of in urban legend, and he wears the same snazzy suit both when protecting Mondstadt and as a playable unit.

* BoringButPractical: Compared to other Pyro DPS units, Diluc's less complicated fighting style makes him reliable in almost every situation. As a claymore wielder, he can deal respectable damage even without using his Elemental Talents, crack through enemy shields any time of day, and can even mine ore nodes. While subsequent units of his archetype such as [[SquishyWizard Klee, Yanfei]], [[CastFromHitPoints Hu Tao]], [[LongRangeFighter Yoimiya, and Lyney]] tend to be DifficultButAwesome {{Glass Cannon}}s with higher damage ceilings, Diluc stands out with a much simpler playstyle while being much tankier in comparison. Not to mention that, similarly to Yanfei, unlike the other event-exclusive 5★ Pyro units, Diluc can be pulled from any banner, making it relatively easier to upgrade his Constellation and thus improve his viability.

* ByronicHero: One of the most influential people in Mondstadt and enjoys high popularity throughout the country. After his father's death, he has become an AntiHero "with an attitude problem" (in Kaeya's words) who will stop at nothing to take down the Fatui, who he blames for his father's death.

* CrazyPrepared: During his Story Quest, Huffman was sent to spy on him on the off chance that he is the Darknight Hero, so he produces [[PrivacyByDistraction a distraction that keep Huffman off his shoulder]] while he and the Traveler deal with an Abyss Order infiltration. When Huffman still suspects him and asks the customers if Diluc went somewhere, they insist that he did not leave the tavern at all. He reveals to the Traveler that the "customers" are all Dawn Winery staff... except Kaeya, who was [[HiddenInPlainSight there unnoticed the whole time]].
* CriticalHitClass: Diluc's Ascension stat is Critical Rate, which can reach 19.2% at his sixth.

* DeafComposer: His Character Story points out that he does not drink alcohol despite his line of work. Not only does he dislike the taste of alcohol, but he also has incredibly poor tolerance, as [[CantHoldHisLiquor a single shot of a strong drink made him sick for three days]].

* FamousAncestor: The ''Ballads of the Squire'' book series tells the story of a certain "Ragnvindr Knight" from Vennessa's time a thousand years ago. The description of Amos's Bow also mentions another Ragnvindr Knight who fought alongside Amos, a nameless bard, and [[spoiler:Barbatos prior to his ascent as Archon]] to topple Decarabian's tyranny a millennium further back.

** His Burst infuses his claymore with Pyro for eight seconds after his main attack. His fourth-ascension passive, ''Blessing of Phoenix'', extends its duration to twelve seconds and adds a 20% boost to his Pyro Damage Bonus.
* {{Foil}}: He and Jean are well-loved public figures, are two of the best swordsmen in Mondstadt, and fight to keep it and its people safe, albeit in different ways. Diluc is a vigilante who does his work in the cover of night, while Jean does hers in broad daylight as leader of its local law enforcement body; Diluc has little qualms resorting to morally questionable methods such as torture, something Jean refuses to stoop to; and Diluc's wealth and solitary activity allow him to protect Mondstadt on his own terms, while Jean's duties have often caused her to work herself to exhaustion. Even visually they contrast, with Diluc [[DarkIsNotEvil wearing mostly black clothing]] in contrast to Jean's [[GoodWearsWhite mostly white]].

** Diluc's no smiling cookie in the story proper, but his character voice-overs reveal a softer, friendlier side to him. While he at first treats the Traveler like another client, he does remain quite polite towards them. Raising his Friendship and Ascension levels also causes him to become much more personable, to the point he ends up calling them "partner" at Friendship Level 6, and outright calls them "friend" in his last Ascension Level.

** For all of his bad blood with the Knights, the "Hidden Strife" event shows that he's willing to work with them on an individual basis. One of his letters is for Albedo, whom he communicates with about Ley Lines. It's made clear as well in the game that he doesn't blindly hate the Knights based on his interactions with Jean and Kaeya. He even praises Eula for her determination to clear her family name in his voice line for her.
* JustFrameBonus: Diluc's fourth Constellation upgrade, ''Flowing Flame'', increases the power of the second consecutive use of his Skill after at least two seconds and no later than four by 40% (meaning the third consecutive Skill will have an 80% boost at best), while his his sixth, ''Flaming Sword, Nemesis of the Dark'', increases both the damage potency and speed of his next two normal attacks by 30% within six seconds after using his Skill, incentivizing Both players to use his Skill more methodically.

* LagCancel: Players can weave his Skill in between attacks, but its most notable feature is its ability to cancel the recovery from his fourth strike. His sixth Constellation upgrade (see JustFrameBonus, above) allows him to buff the damage and speed of his next two normal attacks within six seconds; with the way it works, players are expected to use his Skill after every two strikes of his normal attack.

* MeaningfulName: His name means "dawn" and he is the owner of Dawn Winery. His Elemental Burst is literally called ''Dawn'' and, when he uses it, the screen tints bright orange; if done at night, it is as if the light of dawn has really come for a moment.

* RePower: He discarded his Vision when he left the Knights of Favonius. In the prequel manga, Diluc [[spoiler:used the same Delusion that belonged to his father]]. When he returned to Mondstadt, Diluc decided to take his Vision once more, which [[spoiler:Kaeya secretly smuggled back into his possession from within a vase, under the pretense that he was making up for breaking a vase earlier]].

* SelfDeprecation: Whenever he is in public, Diluc frowns in disgust if he hears a mention of the "Darknight Hero". Diluc ''himself'' is the Darknight Hero praised by the citizens. Elzer knows his secret identity and thinks Diluc is just keeping an act of disapproval to protect himself. The truth is that he did not create the identity and he thought the name is simply stupid.

* SharpDressedMan: Wears a formal attire that isn't stopping him anytime soon from [[BadassInANiceSuit moonlighting as a]] VigilanteMan.
* SiblingYinYang: With his blood brother Kaeya. Diluc has a Pyro vision, a red-and-black color scheme, and skin so pale it is almost white; Kaeya has a Cryo vision, a blue-and-white color scheme, and dark skin. Diluc lost faith in the Knights of Favonius and left, while Kaeya stayed.
* SimpleYetAwesome: Diluc's Skill is a ThreeStrikeCombo, while his Burst is a SwordBeam[=/=]SpellBlade hybrid. Simple though they look, as a [[{{BFS}} claymore]] wielder his attacks hit extremely hard, and he can weave in his Skill between attacks, not to mention effectively having about a three-second cooldown per use on average.

During the "Waterborne Poetry" event, Noelle hesitates to mention about the kiss between the spring fairy and the boy in the book "Heart of Clear Springs" with Diona listening because she isn't sure whether Draff had given the appropriate parental guidance on it, suggesting that Diona does look her age.

* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: When he made his debut, he has to be found on different locations. His subsequent appearances have him stay at Mondstadt at all times.

* MrExposition: His dialogues sometimes tease about upcoming unreleased areas, such as informing the Traveler about the existence of Qiaoying Village in northern Liyue, near Fontaine, during the May 2022 event rerun, which as of Fontaine's release, has not been made available in the game yet or how in the version 2.6 event where he mentions the dark air around Sumeru and warns the traveler to try avoiding it [[spoiler:and hinting at the corruption in the Akademyia and their alliance with Scaramouche]].

* ResolvedNoodleIncident: In the April 2021 rerun, Liben describes having eaten some weird mushrooms in Sumeru just to test out their market value, which he says he "nearly ended up in the second most tragic situation of his life: dying while he still has money to spare". By the time the Traveler reaches Sumeru, Tighnari does explain that most mushrooms native to Sumeru tend to be hallucinogenic and/or toxic, hence he prohibits ingestion without proper preparation.

* VitriolicBestBuds: Venti has lived around Zhongli for so long, he knows how to touch his buttons to exasperate him; the bard is even the only one capable of breaking his perpetually calm veneer. However, Zhongli's character story makes clear that he missed Venti after he went to sleep after the cataclysm, and he appreciates that he's still around to "share the memories". For his part, Venti is willing to go visit the Geo Archon after finding out he retired, but funnily enough he only did so while they're both surrounded by mortals who don't know who they really are, just so Zhongli wouldn't blow him away at sight; all and all, despite the awkwardness and embellished barbs, it's clear that those two are happy to see each other again after so long.

* WingedHumanoid: In the comic's prologue, when he reveals his "true self", he appears as an angelic being with white wings that [[FeatherMotif release white feathers]]. He also appears this way in the legends he appears in. In his own story quest, Venti has Anemo wings when he reveals his identity to Stanley.

As to why would Venti let his Gnosis be taken, there's multiple reasons: a way to get rid of his last tether to Celestia without suspicion, a silent support of the Tsaritsa's plan, a way to give [[spoiler:Rosalyn]] closure for [[spoiler:his late arrival during the Cataclysm resulting in the death of her lover]]; the truth only Venti would know.

** Weirdly, he is fine around [[CatGirl Diona]] in Alchemical Ascension.

* ActualPacifist: As revealed in the "Windblume's Breath" event, Venti was responsible for avoiding a big conflict between himself and the Hexenzirkel, and convinced the latter to resolve their differences in verse instead of violence. This brings his claim of being the weakest archon into question upon closer examination:
** Despite having being absent for centuries at a time and remaining incognito in the present, the people of Mondstadt still worship him as Barbatos regularly, which confuses other nations as to how they can have such faith in him. Kusanali, who had been consciously neglected and had worship of her actively suppressed prior to Chapter III Act V, could still [[spoiler:trap the Shouki no Kami in 168 dream cycles without his notice]], which makes clear that Venti has not showed his full power, and his claims might be a power move.
** Furthermore the Hexenzirkel, whose members include {{The Archmage}}s [[PersonOfMassDestruction Alice]] and [[MakerOfMonsters Rhinedottir]], once challenged him until he befriended them. One might wonder why they felt the need to band together when each of them are/were extremely powerful witches in their own right.

** Downplayed, but he is given very little respect by most of the cast despite them all very quickly learning his identity. Paimon constantly belittles and mocks him, and voice lines for two other Archons, Morax/Zhongli and Beelzebul/Ei, show that they don't have much respect for him[[note]]Zhongli outright calls him "a drunkard" and "a disgrace to the arts"; Ei, while less harsh, senses she and him somehow wouldn't get along and is surprised at how much he can drink[[/note]]. He also gets roughed up by Signora and loses his Gnosis to her, and even before that Venti was the weakest of the Seven due to his lack of interest in ruling over his domain. He lampshades this, lamenting that the Traveler has only met him at a time when he is constantly running into misfortune.

** In v2.8's Summertime Odyssey, before the Traveler can bring up the subject, he sings about the Golden Apple Archipelago to Kazuha and Xinyan, inspiring them to visit. After Kazuha gets sleepy drunk due to mistaking Venti's fruity cocktails as fruit juice, Venti immediately gets to business and invites the Traveler to go to the second floor of the tavern to discuss the upcoming trip, as if he had purposefully made sure they wouldn't be overheard by someone with senses as sensitive as Kazuha's.

* ILetYouWin: An alternative interpretation of the CutsceneIncompetence scene listed above. Despite self-proclaiming himself the "weakest of the archons", Venti is still very much one of the Seven, and a +2000 years old war veteran; he still had the power capable of cleaving mountains clean with RazorWind, but the most he did was protecting the Traveler from her ice blast, ''slowly'' break the ice encasing his legs, taunt at La Signora to her face, and not give any more resistance against her. Also, it's obvious he wasn't using his full power thanks to his braids not [[PowerGlows glowing]]. As to why would Venti let his Gnosis be taken, there's multiple reasons: a way to get rid of his last tether to Celestia without suspicion, a silent support of the Tsaritsa's plan, a way to give [[spoiler:Rosalyn]] closure for [[spoiler:his late arrival during the Cataclysm resulting in the death of her lover]]; the truth only Venti would know.

* GrowlingGut: During her Story Quest, her belly growls for food on two separate occasions: once after the Traveler defeats Slimes for her, as well as when they and Paimon take her out to eat at Wangshu Inn. Thanks to recklessly spending her money to further her career as an astrologist at the expense of her daily needs, flavor text says that embarrassing stomach rumbles are a recurring issue for her.

* HumiliationConga: Her Story Quest is just one long train of bad luck after another. She makes 20,000 Mora which she quickly burns after treating [[BigEater the Traveler and Paimon]] to a meal. Then upon arrival at Mondstadt to find the protégé of her teacher's rival, said protégé turns out to be [[MadBomber Klee]], who was not taught astrology with which Mona will compare knowledge. Then, while finding the box her master Barbeloth asked of her, she reads a book from Klee's bag which, she learned belatedly, was her master's journal which she was forbidden to read. Out of fear of her master, Mona stays in hiding in Mondstadt and had to rent an apartment despite being broke.

* MoneyDumb: She has never studied finance, hence her constant Mora problems. In her "Troubles" voice-line, she mentions the things she must pay, such as her residence's rent, equipment repair bill, and renewing her journal subscriptions. Then she has this to say:

* ProphecyTwist: Her prognostication correctly tells her to meet with the successor of her master's friend to complete her task, and even tells her when that individual is approaching. Unfortunately for her, it did not tell her what part of said friend's legacy the successor had inherited, so fate throws her for a loop when not by a fellow astrologist but [[MadBomber Klee]] greets her.

* SmallNameBigEgo: She ''is'' a gifted astrologist, but even then, she has a very inflated view of herself. She introduces herself as Mona Megistus, meaning "The Great Astrologist Mona," and seems to expect preferential treatment from everyone she meets due to her fame (though nobody seems to have heard of her). Most tellingly, she considers herself and the Traveler to be ''equals'' in status, despite having nothing in her resumé remotely on the same level as saving Mondstadt from Stormterror or beating a Fatui Harbinger. The events of her Story Quest knock her down a couple of pegs.
** This gets inverted after that Quest, as one of her character stories set after her move to Mondstadt explains how Mona got a job writing an astrology column on ''The Steambird''. The column became popular enough to keep being published despite it covering advanced subjects, and Mona's name rose in popularity along with it. Far away in Sumeru, Layla has even heard of Mona and has nothing but praise for her, explaining that she has become well-known and respected by her fellow Rtawahist scholars.

* {{Tsundere}}: A downplayed Harsh example, as shown in her Story Quest and Serenitea Pot dialogue. Mona is ''really'' prideful, refuses to show weakness, and tries to hide her poverty by acting haughty. However, she's still a good person at heart, and has much less trouble at showing kindness than say, Diona.

* UltimateBlacksmith: Her utility passive, ''Principium of Astrology'', gives her a 25% chance to refund materials while crafting Weapon Ascension materials.

* PainToTheAss: During the "Shadows Amidst Snowstorms" event, Bennett accidentally falls thanks to his bad luck. His landing wasn't comfy.
