A Northern house directly surbordinate to Glover. They are famous for their trademark Ironwood; lumber that is hard to burn, and burns ''blue'' when it does.

* DeathByAdaptation: In the books Harrion is captured at the Battle of the Green Fork, imprisoned at Harrenhal and released when Arya and Jaqen H'ghar liberate the northern prisoners and the Brave Companions turn on Amory Lorch and deliver the castle to Lord Bolton. In the novels, Rickard has three sons and two of them die, one of which is named "Eddard Karstark" after Eddard Stark. Given the TV series's reluctance to use the books' ''intentionall'' aversion of the OneSteveLimit rule, because they thought the audience would be confused, they swapped Eddard Karstark's death with Harrion - though whether "Eddard Karstark" will take his brother's place from the storyline in later novels, or if he will be renamed, or simply be Adapted Out, is anyone's guess.

* {{Badass}}: Bran mentions that he saved Ned's life during Robert's Rebellion. [[labelnote:From the books...]]This occurred during Eddard's mission to rescue his sister from the Tower of Joy, with only Howland and Ned surviving the mission.[[/labelnote]]
* TheGhost: In-universe as well as out. [[labelnote:From the books...]]House Reed's seat, Greywater Watch, is constantly moving because it is built on a floating island, and has never been found by anyone not led by a Crannogman guide. The Crannogmen, while exceptionally loyal to the Starks, are mercurial and reclusive by nature, and all live on floating islands similar to the one Greywater Watch lies on, making them nearly impossible to find if they don't want to be found. And, because passing between the south and North requires knowledge of the floating islands or the Crannogmen's own secret routes, they have proven extremely difficult to conquer and strategically essential. And of course as he's the only one who witnessed what happened at Tower of Joy (Lyanna Stark's death, Ned's promise to her) and still living, it's obvious that we won't see him at least till the last seasons.[[/labelnote]]

* OldFriend: Of Ned Stark. Unusually, he is also TheGhost and (in the show) only introduced after Ned's death.

* SwampsAreEvil: Played with. Played straight in that the swamps of the Neck are very dangerous to outsiders and, combined with the fact that the isthmus is a natural choke point to begin with, have served as a very effective buffer against invasion from the south for centuries. In the Histories & Lore videos, Jon Snow says that the Neck is nearly as effective a barrier as the Wall itself on the other side of the North. The swamps are impassable by large armies, filled with quicksand, disease-carrying insects, and "Lizard-lions" (huge crocodiles of some kind). House Reed and their crannogmen ambush outsiders using poisoned arrows. Even the ironborn who managed to take Moat Cailin from its undefended northern side, as we see at the end of Season 4, are being bled very badly by attrition from the surrounding crannogmen. The trope is inverted in that House Reed is ''staunchly'' loyal to House Stark itself, so it depends on your points of view.
* UndyingLoyalty: To House Stark, moreso than even other Northern Houses. Even with the Starks defeated and Winterfell burned, the Reed children continue to follow and protect Bran Stark as his brother Robb's heir (and to guide him to his magical destiny beyond the Wall).
