* BeamMeUpScotty: A strange variant, while Jason's primary weapon is an Machete, he's only used it an few amount of times, the most of such being in Film/JasonX. In addition, he's used either his strength or an vast assortment of objects, yet most claim he's used it more often in part five, despite most of those kills being from Roy Burns. MortalKombatX subverts this to some end by using 48% of his fighting styles (Slasher, Kill For Mother, his X-Ray, Go to Hell, and Blood Bath) while everything else uses his strength.

* SignificantBirthDate: It was the June 13th ,1946. Which was a Friday the 13th. (Yeah, dates don't actually work like that, but MST3KMantra don't let it ruin the fun)

* EyeScream: Tommy killed him in The Final Chapter by slicing halfway into his head with his machete, destroying his left eye in the process. In The New Blood, his left eye is clearly missing.

* GreaterScopeVillain: Of both the original movie and A New Beginning; in the former, Pamela seeks to avenge his apparent death, and in the latter, Roy Burns uses his persona to become a copycat.

* UnexplainedRecovery: It's never officially revealed how he survived his childhood drowning, though Jason Lives and Jason Takes Manhattan go with the idea that he did indeed drown as a child and came BackFromTheDead.

Jason X similarly leaves it open how he came back after being DraggedOffToHell at the end of Jason Goes to Hell, though Freddy vs. Jason reveals that Freddy brought him back.

Added DiffLines:
* HateSink: Averted. Despite spending the most of the screen time as an annoyance for Tommy, Garris has a good reason to act this way and eventually won over the audience through his beatdown on Jason at the climax before getting killed himself.

* NominalHero: Downplayed. Garris is maybe the Sheriff who sincerely fulfill his duty to protect the well-being of Forest Green, but however, he mostly act as a RabidCop obstacle for Tommy and even think Tommy is behind the killings to prove Jason's return, until at the climax when he realized the truth himself and dies trying to stop Jason.

* FormerRegimePersonnel: He is a combat veteran of the United States Armed Forces (apparently during the Vietnam War); behind his desk in a FreezeFrameBonus when Garris makes his debut, he has framed a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal hanging on his office wall. This could explained his aggressive and overprotective nature and being CrazyPrepared with firearms and the readied use of physical force against any threat he sees as to Forest Green while on duty as the sheriff.

But most importantly at the climax, all that past combat experience almost came in handy when he managed to give a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown on Jason and even hit him with a log that broke after meeting the impact until Jason broke him in half in a CurbStompBattle in his favor.

* AssholeVictim: Downplayed. He is a dick towards Tommy, but he has a good reason to be and he did go out trying to stop Jason with his death doubling as a HeroicSacrifice and a DyingMomentOfAwesome. * Badass: See BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu, DyingMomentOfAwesome and HeroicSacrifice below.

He is a dick towards Tommy, but he has a good reason to be be]], his final actions before his death were PetTheDog moments which shows he is a FriendToAllChildren and he did go out trying to stop Jason with his death doubling as a HeroicSacrifice and a DyingMomentOfAwesome. * Badass: See BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu, DyingMomentOfAwesome DyingMomentOfAwesome, FormerRegimePersonnel and HeroicSacrifice below.

* DirtyCoward: Subverted. At first, once he runs out of ammunition, he starts to run off and hide to save himself, but when he hears his daughter's cries for help and see Jason being drawn to those cries, he pulls a HeroicSacrifice trying to stop Jason to get to his daughter. * DyingMomentOfAwesome: Dies trying to fight Jason to protect his daughter and nearly won if not Jason took the upper hand and broke him in half.
to:
* DecoyProtagonist: Downplayed. He protagonizes his own plot to investigate and put an end to the latest killing spree, but erroneously thinks Tommy is responsible during the majority of his screen time. He present himself as a FakeUltimateHero through his implied combat experience, his role as the sheriff who would use heavy-handed protocol to protect Forest Green (except, however, he used this on the wrong guy - Tommy) and did tried to stop Jason with everything he got once facing him and realizing the truth before being added to the body count himself at the climax. * DirtyCoward: Subverted. At first, once he runs out of ammunition, he starts to run off and hide to seemingly save himself, but when he hears his daughter's cries for help and see Jason being drawn to those cries, he pulls a HeroicSacrifice trying to stop Jason to get to his daughter. * DyingMomentOfAwesome: Dies trying to fight Jason to protect his daughter (and by extension, the young children of Camp Forest Green) and nearly won if not Jason took the upper hand and broke him in half.half. * JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite his abrasive hero antagonism towards Tommy, he does legitimately love his daughter and even died trying to save her from Jason when the killer advances to her direction. Also, as his duty as the sheriff, he makes sure he protects the well-being of Forest Green (aka Crystal Lake) no matter how aggressive his methods are. Upon realizing Jason is alive and running amok killing people again, it's unknown if Garris changes his opinion and attitude about Tommy after the realization up to his death, but if he did survived, Garris would have lightened up his attitude towards Tommy, thanked him for taking down Jason to save his daughter and allowed his daughter to date Tommy.

Also, as his duty as the sheriff, he makes sure he protects the well-being of Forest Green (aka Crystal Lake) no matter how aggressive his methods are. In addition, Garris is also a FriendToAllChildren, such as when he consoles a scared little girl who ran into him from Jason's murder spree and instructs the camp's kids to hide for their protection (see PetTheDog below).
