* AntagonisticOffspring: He plays a variant of this with his grandfather Grand Hoof originally. He sees him as an old fool for making a nobody like Flash Sentry his apprentice instead of him, and also resenting him for what happened to the rest of his family due to what he saw as his neglect. He eventually gets over this attitude after he is defeated by Flash and Iron, and the Alicorn Amulet is destroyed, and he seeks to [[TheAtoner atone to Grand]] for his attitude. He ends up playing this completely straight to his father Doom Raizer, siding with the Knights against him.
* TheBet: He makes a bet with Rarity in "The Ultimate Ponyville Diet", on whether she can make it through an entire week of exercise without quitting. The loser needs to do whatever the winner wants for an entire day without complaints. Lightning loses and [[spoiler:is forced to ask Rarity out on a date]].
* BigDamnHeroes: He makes his return during the Doom Raizer arc in season 3. Assisting the Royal Knights from the shadows until he makes his presence known, stopping his father Doom Raizer from killing Flash.

* IHatePastMe: After he returns and officially joins the Defenders, he expresses disgust with the way he acted in the past whenever it is mentioned. This includes bullying Flash, his disrespect to Grand Hoof and the princesses, trying to take control of Equestria himself, and his sleazy attitude and harassment toward mares like Rarity.
* {{Irony}}: [[spoiler:He asks Rarity out on a date when they first met, but is turned down by her due to his rude behavior towards her and her friends while trying to flirt with her. * LoveTriangle: He is also interested in winning Rarity’s affections just like Spike is, but Spike [[LockedOutOfTheLoop has no idea]] Lightning is giving him competition. [[spoiler:Lightning ends up as the one Rarity chooses as of "The Ultimate Ponyville Diet".]]
* ShipTease: He is given a few moments with Rarity. Originally only flirting with her due to finding her the most attractive of her group of friends, he eventually comes to respect her once he moves to Ponyville and they are shown interacting several times. She even visits him after he helps save Canterlot from some criminals and happily kisses his cheek to thank him for saving everyone. During Heartswarming, they're seen together again to do some shopping, in which Lightning gets noticeably flustered when Wild Smile confronts them about this.
* ShockAndAwe: He specializes in lightning magic.
* UnknownRival: He is one for Spike. They have both shown interest in Rarity and have formed close friendships with her, but Spike has no idea that Lightning is interested in winning her heart the same way he is. His anger at Grand eventually dies down to, to the point where everyone is shocked in "Lightning's Fate" when he tells Grand it ''wasn't'' his fault that he missed a few Cutie Markers from years ago.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He keeps his {{Jerkass}} trait longer than anyone else in Lightning's gang, including Lightning himself. After Lightning's exile from Canterlot, he continues to hold a grudge against Grand for what happened to him, and talks down to him whenever he is mentioned. However, he still had a genuine friendship with Lightning and eventually, his grudge against Grand began to die down later on, as best shown in "A Wild Wild Heartswarming" that shows them pulling on crackers together in a friendly manner, with both seemingly dropping any animosity between each other.
* TranslatorMicrobes: He has a spell that can translate just about any written text in existence. However, in ''The Knight of Friendship'', the spell fails to work on translating some runes that Trail Blazer and Misty Veil had written down from a temple that they discovered.

* FriendToAllChildren: He showed that he is really good with children, when he used his puppets to entertain Pumpkin and Pound Cake.

* GreenEyedMonster: He is extremely jealous of Cheese Sandwich when he arrives in Ponyville, and learns that he became a Party Pony because of Pinkie. This is mainly driven by his fear that the two of them will become a couple.
* HowDadMetMom: He is actually terrified of this idea, since if he and Pinkie ever get married and have kids they'll eventually ask how they met and he'll need to explain he attacked Pinkie at the Battle of Canterlot while trying to help their EvilUncle take over Equestria.

He sees him as an old fool for making a nobody like Flash Sentry his apprentice instead of him, and also resenting him for what happened to the rest of his family due to what he saw as his neglect. He eventually gets over this attitude after he is defeated by Flash and Iron, and the Alicorn Amulet is destroyed, and he seeks to [[TheAtoner atone to Grand]] for his attitude. He ends up playing this completely straight to his father Doom Raizer, siding with the Knights against him.

However, he still had a genuine friendship with Lightning and eventually, his grudge against Grand began to die down later on, as best shown in "A Wild Wild Heartswarming" that shows them pulling on crackers together in a friendly manner, with both seemingly dropping any animosity between each other.

A changeling who served Doom Raizer as his infiltration specialist. She was put in prison for a short time, then released when Thorax arrived.

* AntagonisticOffspring: She didn’t start out as one, but when she overheard that her mother, Chrysalis, was planning to kill her because she feared that she was becoming too powerful to control, she fled the hive with plans to eventually return and overthrow her mother.
* TheBusCameBack: She makes a brief appearance during "Retirement" as one of the prisoners being transported to a new secret prison in the crystal mountains. Unlike Electra and Banshee though, she is unable to escape and is immediately recaptured.
* FreudianExcuse: She was treated like a daughter by Chrysalis, but the latter grew fearful that she was becoming too powerful and would overthrow her to take control of the hive, so she ordered her execution, forcing her to flee. Afterwards, Hiveena was forced to wander the cities of Equestria and remain emotionally destroyed by Chrysalis' betrayal. Eventually, she was found by Doom Raizer, whom she became loyal to when he promised her revenge against the rest of the Changelings.
* HeelFaceTurn: She’s released from prison in ''Time for a Changeling'' when Thorax arrives.
* LikeFatherUnlikeSon: Unlike Chrysalis, who was ruthless towards her changelings, Hiveena was kind and caring towards her changelings.
* {{Shapeshifter}}: Like all other changelings, she has this power and mastered it far faster than other changelings.
* ShipTease: She gets a few intimate moments with Thorax in "Time for A Changeling", where he's pretty much the catalyst for her HeelFaceTurn.
* TykeBomb: Chrysalis intended to groom her into a weapon, but she grew beyond her expectations, and began viewing her as a threat to her rule.

A member of the Crimson Masquerade Gang and has been coerced into a life of crime by Wolf.

* AffablyEvil: Despite being a criminal, he's generally friendly during his free time like playing a couple of games of chess with Iron Core. He drops the "evil" part after his HeelFaceTurn.
* ApologeticAttacker: After his identity has been revealed to Iron Core, a fight ensues between the two, though Double Take repeatedly apologizes and states that he has no choice but to follow Wolf's orders.
* CoolMask: Like the rest of his gang members, he wears an animal mask, specifically an owl.
* EvilCounterpart: Downplayed with Iron Core, since Double Take isn't exactly "evil", but he's still a part of the Crimson Masquerade Gang. Both feel underappreciated by their fellow companions and that their potential to do anything meaningful is minimal.
* HeelFaceTurn: He views himself as a "pawn" to Wolf and reluctantly joined his gang. After establishing a friendship with Iron Core, Double Take is inspired to break free from Wolf's control, which he does and helps the Royal Knights fight Wolf and the rest of the Crimson Masquerade Gang.
* IOweYouMyLife: What Wolf expects out of Double Take. Before joining the Crimson Masquerade Gang, Double Take had no family or friends and was left to starve on the streets, until Wolf took him in. Now, Wolf expects Double Take to follow his orders without question, even if it means committing crimes or harming his friends.
* OneShotCharacter: He's only appeared in "Iron's Place".
* RealityEnsues: He may have helped the Royal Knights against the Crimson Masquerade Gang, but he's still going to be punished for being complicit with their previous crimes. On the bright side, Flash Sentry assures him that he may get a lighter punishment than his fellow criminals like only getting community service, in which Double Take can start a new life away from Wolf after finishing his sentence.

* AdaptationalContextChange: The circumstances leading to her HeelFaceTurn are altered thanks to the presence of Evil Flash.
* BatmanGambit: [[spoiler:She tricks Evil Flash into jumping into a lake by tossing a fake scroll into the water, which he jumps in after, unaware that by doing so, he just destroyed his scroll.]]
* ContrivedCoincidence: [[spoiler:She activated the time travel spell at the same time that the Evil Flash had found the same scroll in his timeline.]]
* EasilyForgiven: Like in canon, Twilight and Spike managed to get her to stop her plan for revenge by showing her what will happen in the future if she succeeds, and offering her friendship. Zigzagged when they get back to the Present though. Although the rest of the Mane 6 still accept her and Celestia is willing to accept Twilight's decision on how to deal with her, Luna still declares that there must be at least ''some'' form of punishment given to her for her actions, even something as simple as community service.
* EnemyMine: She’s forced to work with Twilight Sparkle and Spike to stop the Evil Flash from traveling the multiverse and killing other Flashes.
* FailedASpotCheck: She didn't place anything in the vault she keeps all the cutie marks she removed to ''act'' as her cutie mark. Flash manages to convince Double Diamond she is a fake by asking him what her real cutie mark looks like, and when Double Diamond can't answer he remembers when he first joined the village [[SpotTheThread his mark was the fourth in the vault]], but he was the ''fifth'' member of the village, which ''included Starlight''.
* FireForgedFriends: She becomes friends with Twilight by fighting along side her against the Evil Flash.
* ForegoneConclusion: Her HeelFaceTurn is all but inevitable. However, before that happens, [[spoiler:she has to work with Twilight Sparkle to stop an alternate universe version of Flash Sentry from going around different timelines, and killing their versions of Flash.]]
* ItsAllMyFault: [[spoiler:She realizes that the whole reason she, Twilight, and Spike have to deal with an evil version of Flash is because she messed with the time-travel spell and accidentally brought him back in time with them. Twilight agrees it is her fault, but they can't change that and all that matter now is what she is going to do about it.]]
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Downplayed on the receiving end. Unlike in canon where Twilight tries to appeal to her completely sympathetically, when she shows her the wasteland timeline she tells her that even though she is sorry she and her friends took her village away from her she still tells her taking cutie marks away is ''wrong'' and that the wasteland is proof of that. When Starlight shows her and Spike her past, Twilight is shocked that such a petty reason caused so many dark futures. Later when talking Starlight down, when she says how her friendship with Sunburst was torn apart, Twilight points out that ''Starlight'' herself was the one who gave up on friendships in general and didn't try to make new friends after she lost Sunburst. Though she still gets through to her by offering her own friendship to her.
* ShipTease: [[spoiler:As in canon, she gets this with Sunburst. In "A Flash of Darkness", Evil Flash not only offers to create a better future for her and Sunburst, but he even mentions that there is one future where she and Sunburst are together. Starlight is noticeably flustered by this.]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Along with her meddling in the past creating several {{bad future}}s where Equestria is in ruins like in canon, she also unintentionally [[spoiler:brings an evil alternate version of Flash Sentry to the past with her and Twilight, due to him [[ContrivedCoincidence holding the same spell in his timeline when she activated it in hers]]]].
