* HonoraryTrueCompanion: In ''Three Hopes'', she can be recruited by Edelgard, who is more open about their shared trauma, and recruiting her is required to unlock Edelgard's paralogue. She and Leonie cannot be recruited to the Blue Lions, by contrast. If recruited, [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration she contributes to dialogue in an important main story scene with Hubert and Shez.]] She also has supports with Hubert, Ferdinand, and [[spoiler:Mercedes]], all of which are only possible on the Scarlet Blaze route, and several supports on this route are about the Eagles collectively wanting the best for her as if she was one of their own. Also, the support between Caspar and Bernadetta is the only support between Black Eagles that can mention someone from another house (though Yuri is implied to appear at the start of the Dorothea and Bernadetta support).

If he's [[spoiler:recruited to the Empire in the Black Eagles route]], he will tell Byleth that he doesn't care who or what he's fighting for, as long as Maya is safe, that's all he needs, and he believes in [[spoiler:following Edelgard because that's the choice Byleth made]]. He also points out that even if he grew up in the Alliance, doesn't mean he has to serve their lords.

->''"It is because I am the only child of House Ordelia. I must do all I can for the family name. I'm determined to someday be of real value to them, and that day must come soon. I can't waste any time. I don't have much of it left..."''

The only child of Count Ordelia. She's the academy's youngest student and something of a magical prodigy. Despite developing her talents at a young age, she's a hard worker and isn't conceited about her abilities. However, she hates being treated as a child and doesn't like ghosts.\\\

Her personal ability, ''Mastermind'', doubles the skill experience she gains from combat. She bears the Minor Crest of Charon, which has a chance to increase her Might when using Combat Arts. She also bears the Major Crest of Gloucester, which has a chance to raise her Might when using magic.
----
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: She's younger than most of her peers, and feels the need to actively dissuade others from questioning her maturity. As a result, she never asks for help when she's lost, refuses to admit when she is frightened of wandering alone at night, and doesn't like people to know she loves sugary treats.
* AllForNothing: [[spoiler:After being experimented on by those who slither in the dark and granted a second Crest at the cost of a drastically shortened lifespan, Lysithea is quite desperate to make use of what little time she has left. If unrecruited and killed on Crimson Flower or Azure Moon, then her efforts are rendered meaningless, and the Alliance she laid down her life to protect will fall not long after her death.]]
* AmbiguouslyBi:
** In ''Three Houses'' she only has explicitly romantic endings with men. However, in her support with female Shez in ''Three Hopes'' she [[LuminescentBlush noticeably blushes]] and gets very flustered when Shez calls her pretty.
** In the Japanese version of ''Three Houses'' she also calls Leonie her ideal husband during their B-level support conversation.
* AncestralWeapon:
** Averted in that House Ordelia itself does not have either a Relic or a Sacred Weapon to its name, but because Lysithea has two Crests, she can safely wield either the Relic sword Thunderbrand (native to Catherine's former House Charon) or, [[SquishyWizard preferably]], the Relic staff Thyrsus (native to Lorenz's House Gloucester).
** ''Three Hopes'' gives her Suttungr's Mystery, which is linked to her Crest of Charon, and allows her to cast Agnea's Arrow.
* ArmorPiercingAttack: A magical variant. She has access to Luna, which allows her to bypass enemy magic resistance.
* AscendedMeme: Lysithea is memetically known for her stellar performance against the Death Knight. In the introduction to her Brave variant in ''Heroes'', she is shown one-shotting him with extreme prejudice, while the lords instead attack generic units.
* AwesomeButImpractical:
** Owning the Crest of Gloucester allows her to use the Axe of Ukonvasara to its full potential, but because of her weakness in axes and her SquishyWizard stats, it's definitely better off on someone else, since being a sacred weapon means there are no drawbacks. It can be easier to make use of in ''Three Hopes'', though requiring a significant amount of grinding: due to weapon skills being tied to classes it's easy to get her axe rank up, and if you're prepared to also level her through the Mercenary class line, she can get Proficient Witstrike from mastering Mortal Savant. Said ability causes ''all'' of Lysithea's attacks to scale off her considerable magic stat, making her an incredible bruiser with the Axe.
** She can also wield the Thunderbrand with no drawbacks, but Catherine is definitely a better choice for the weapon due to actually having a stat spread fitting for the weapon. Like the Axe of Ukonvasara, it can prove far more useful in ''Three Hopes'', with Proficient Witstrike making it extremely strong in her hands; Mortal Savant, the class the ability is learned from, makes excellent use of the sword.
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: She's the youngest character besides Cyril, and her supports with Raphael, Leonie, Hilda, Edelgard, and Hubert have them act like an older sibling to her, much to her disapproval. She gets this treatment despite only being 2 years younger than most of the characters, and despite Petra and Cyril being close to her in age.
* BadassAdorable: She's a cute girl who happens to be a prodigy at incredibly powerful dark magic. [[AdorablyPrecociousChild Just don't tell her about the "adorable" part, though.]]
* BabiesEverAfter: In her endings with Byleth (outside of Crimson Flower) and Linhardt they settle down and have at least two children
* BehindEveryGreatMan: In her ending with Lorenz, [[spoiler:many of Lorenz's credited policies during his governing came from Lysithea who didn't get any credit for them due to her health condition preventing her from appearing in public.]]
* BeneathTheMask: Underneath her haughty, prodigal exterior is a girl who loves nothing more than stuffing her face with sweets at every given opportunity and is scared of ghosts. She's terrified of letting this side of her show and tries to bribe Felix with cake to get him to keep quiet when he stumbles across her snacking.
* BerserkButton:
** Downplayed, but she hates being treated like a child.
** ''Don't'' even insinuate that her abilities are tied solely to her Crest (either of them), as that will often send her on an angry tantrum. Trying to talk about long-term thinking or her future also usually ends in her storming out of the room; she hates thinking about a future she might never have.
* BewareTheCuteOnes: The youngest student and, despite her protestations, has a love for sweets and dolls and is afraid of ghosts... and also one of the most consistently devastating offensive units in the game.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Felix, as both of them are quite {{Tsundere}} in their attitudes but have a hidden softer side beneath that, they both have had their personalities drastically affected by a traumatic incident in their pasts (Glenn's death for Felix, [[spoiler:the Crest experimentations]] for Lysithea), they both are considered prodigies in their respective class, tend to be very blunt, have TsurimeEyes and don't like being reminded they are the youngest ones of their friendship groups.[[note]] In Felix's case, it's more so that he doesn't like to be reminded of how he used to be.[[/note]] Naturally, they can get married at the end of their support chain.
* ABirthdayNotABreak: The Battle of Aillel (Verdant Wind) and the Second Battle of Garreg Mach (Crimson Flower) fall on her birthday.
* BlackMagicianGirl: She's a powerful user of offensive magic, and is also the youngest student in the Academy. Notably, even when progressing her Faith skill she learns ''no'' healing magic other than the default ''Heal'', making her an even worse healer than her MagicallyIneptFighter peers and the anti-theist Hubert, whom all get ''Recover''.
* BornUnlucky: With all the crap she's had to go through in her life, it should come as no surprise that Lysithea's Luck growth is a miserable 15%, the lowest in the game. Her title in her end cards lampshades this, calling her the "Scholar of Misfortune".
* BrattyHalfPint:
** Lysithea has an attitude problem, to say the least. She has high expectations, which means she is easy to disappoint, calling her an adorable child sets her off easily, and she hates talking about the future. [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold She has a softer side]], though it takes some effort on her part to bring it out. [[spoiler:She phases out of this and becomes nicer after the five-year time skip, and her discomfort about talking about the future does come from legitimate grievances from having a shortened lifespan via forcibly having a second Crest.]]
** While some students may express frustration if they fail a class exam, Lysithea is the only one who would outright complain and even accuse Byleth of not doing well enough to prepare her for said exam. Amusingly, this happens [[TookALevelInKindness even in post-time skip]].
--->'''Lysithea:''' [[SoreLoser Failed? It's due to your poor judgement!]]
* BreakoutCharacter: Not to the extent of other characters in the series, but her tragic backstory, and especially her power in battle as both a damage dealer and a support allowed her to finish in second place among the female characters in the fourth ''Choose Your Legends'' poll, only losing out to Edelgard. As such, she received a Brave alternate version in ''VideoGame/FireEmblemHeroes'' alongside the three lords, making her the first non-main character in ''Fire Emblem'' history to have one. Additionally, this made her one of the characters chosen to get Pop Up Parade figures.
* TheCameo: She appears in ''[[VideoGame/FireEmblemEngage Engage]]'' as one of Byleth's Bond Rings.
* CastFromLifespan: [[spoiler:The experimentation done on her to implant a second Crest,]] said extra Crest putting a huge strain on her body, making it likely that she will die at a young age.
* CastingAShadow: Leveling up her Reason makes her a powerful user of dark magic.
* ChildMage: At 15 years old, she is the youngest student at the Officers Academy[[note]]She and Petra are both 15 at the start of ''Three Houses'' and ''Three Hopes'', but Petra was born much earlier in the year (the calendar in their world starting in our equivalent of April)[[/note]] and within her house, she has the highest magical potential.
* ChildProdigy: She is described as this, where her magical abilities are concerned. Even honors student Annette goes to her for help understanding material in their supports. This is even her exact title in ''Heroes''.
* DeadlyDistantFinale: Because her two Crests shortens her lifespan, some of her endings will mention her passing while others mentioned having to enjoy what limited life she has left, whether paired or not. She has [[EarnYourHappyEnding five possible endings to avert this]].
* DefeatMeansFriendship: On the Crimson Flower campaign, [[spoiler:once defeated, the player can choose to either kill her or spare her; the latter has her join you after the battle, even if she had not been recruited pre-timeskip. Claude had specifically instructed her to surrender beforehand if she was defeated, and her family was Pro-Empire anyway.]]
* DelicateAndSickly: Due to having two Crests, which is normally impossible, her health is far from robust.
* DePower: In some of her endings, her Crests are ultimately removed, allowing her to live a full and normal life. The endings in which this happens are the ones with Byleth, Claude, Linhardt, Edelgard, and Hanneman.
* DiseaseBleach: She's DelicateAndSickly, and her hair turned white because of [[spoiler:how she obtained her two Crests,]] as she states to Edelgard in her supports with her.
* DontYouDarePityMe: Lysithea can handle being teased about her fear of ghosts and her love of sweets, but she ''hates'' being looked at as a victim and someone in need of help. [[spoiler:She's aware of her life being shortened by the Crest experiments done to it, but would rather work hard in spite of that to prove herself]]. Her supports with Hanneman involve her eventually snapping at him for being overbearing and seeing her as someone in need of help. Part of why she likes Edelgard is that Edelgard has experienced the same trauma as her, and yet she fights despite that, and Edelgard both sympathizes with her, but also doesn't pity her the way others do. This is reflected in the lessons as well; if she fails a lesson, you need to chose Critque instead of Console to get her approval.
* DubNameChange: Her last name was from "Cordelia" to "Ordelia" in the English version, since "Cordelia" [[OneSteveLimit was already used]] for a character in the English version of ''VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening''.
* EarnYourHappyEnding:
** Having her reach an A-support with the right people (Claude ([[AmbiguousSituation possibly]]), Edelgard, Hanneman, Linhardt, and Male Byleth) results in a paired ending where her Crests are removed and her nobility is either renounced or revoked (on non-Verdant Wind routes), thus giving Lysithea the chance to live a normal life.
** In her paired ending with Lorenz, [[spoiler:she survives. Though she's still sickly and doesn't make many public appearances because of it, she helps him rebuild his territory behind the scenes.]]
* EveryonesBabySister: While she'd hate the word "baby" and can handle herself in combat using magic, she still elicits a protect instinct from many characters, especially her Golden Deer and Black Eagles. Several characters even directly compare her to their biological younger sisters.
* ExtremelyProtectiveChild: Downplayed as we never actually see Lysithea interacting with her parents, but she clearly loves them dearly and states if poached to other houses that all she wants is to ensure a peaceful life for them after everything they've suffered through.
* FlawedPrototype: Implied and later confirmed in the ''2020 Nintendo Dream Interview''. [[spoiler:The Agarthans's Blood Reconstruction Surgery meant to infuse their subjects [[BeyondTheImpossible a second Crest]] was refined only after Lysithea and her siblings had been experimented on, meaning that, unlike Edelgard, Lysithea's lifespan ended up taking a far greater toll by comparison. This is especially evident when contrasting their endings, as only Lysithea's unambiguously state (save for a few exceptions) that she eventually perishes a few years after the events of the story]].
* FoodAsBribe: In her supports with Felix, she attempts to bribe Felix with cake to make him forget he caught her gorging on sweets. It fails for two reasons: he hates sweets, and he doesn't see what the big fuss is about.
* FriendlyRival: Annette becomes this with her in their supports, as both of them spur the other on to work "super duper hard" and become better mages.
* GeniusSweetTooth: Is one of the smartest students in class, and adores cakes and pastries. In ''Three Houses'', her love of them forms the basis of her A-support with Linhardt and her support chain with Felix. In ''Three Hopes'', it is key to her support chains with Hubert and Mercedes. She also really enjoys being gifted with sweets.
* GlassCannon: She's nearly unparalleled in raw magical power thanks to her sky-high growths in Magic, Dexterity, and Speed. However, all of her defensive stats are inevitably going to end up terrible due to her low bases and growths, and she has the lowest HP cap in the game.
* HairTriggerTemper: She has a very bad habit of blowing her top whenever someone even [[InnocentlyInsensitive accidentally]] pushes her buttons, often leaving them confused as she rants before storming off in a huff.
* HeelFaceTurn: On the Crimson Flower route, [[spoiler:Lysithea can be persuaded into joining the Empire after being defeated in Chapter 14]]. Unlike Lorenz or Ashe though, [[spoiler:she doesn't temporarily leave the army if recruited beforehand]].
* HeightAngst: Discussed in her B-Support with Shez in ''Three Hopes'', were they ask why Lysithea hates being treated like a kid so much. Lysithea says that besides her age and baby-looking face, it's how she's generally shorter than everyone else (though it should be noted that she grew 8 cm in the 2 year timeskip, now being 156 cm).
* HiddenDepths:
** Though she is mainly known for being a consumer of sweets, some supports highlight that Lysithea is actually a competent pastry chef in her own right. Namely, she inexplicably helps Felix get over his distaste for sweets, and multiple paired endings involve her doing something with sweets, whether it be making them for the rest of her days or concocting a recipe that manages to stick around [[spoiler:long after she shuffles off the mortal coil.]]
** Due to [[spoiler:being experimented on by those who slither in the dark because of her status as a Crest bearing noble,]] she resents her peerage, and in all of her endings, [[spoiler:renounces it to live as a commoner.]]
Hubert with giving her special attention, which he even exceeds. Ferdinand mentions he, Hubert, Linhardt, and Hanneman, among others, are all working together for her benefit. Also, the support between Caspar and Bernadetta is the only support between Black Eagles that can mention someone from another house (though Yuri is implied to appear at the start of the Dorothea and Bernadetta support).
* HypocriticalHumor:
** In her C-Support with Cyril, she tells Cyril that he should listen to his advice because she's older and knows best, which is pretty much the kind of attitude she hates for other people to take with her.
** In her C-Support with Shez, they outright call her a child to her face, and she proceeds to get ''very'' huffy and bratty as she insists she isn't a child, just after she more or less did the same thing to Shez a moment beforehand, on top of her throwing almost a tantrum like a child, which Shez is just as quick to lampshade. Furthermore, as the timeskip is only 2 years, Lysithea is still 17 at this point.
--->'''Shez:''' You know, an adult wouldn't be getting nearly as stubborn and combative as you are right now...
** In her paralogue with Edelgard and Hapi, she takes offense to Shez pointing out her sweet tooth, and demands recompense by having Shez give her all their desserts.
* IGotBigger: Goes from being the shortest character pre-timeskip to almost as tall as Petra and taller than Edelgard.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Her frail constitution and shortened lifespan have led to her deepest desire on being to simply live a normal and happy life. [[spoiler:Because her noble status and the importance people in Fódlan place on Crests is what led to her being experimented on, she also desires the freedom to live a life without being concerned about either.]]
* InsufferableGenius: She has great pride in her abilities and can come off as confrontational even when she doesn't mean to.
* {{Irony}}: One of her favorite gifts are lilies, flowers that are [[YourDaysAreNumbered commonly associated with funerals.]]
* ItsPersonal: On Verdant Wind she considers the fight against those who slither in the dark to be this, knowing they are the ones to blame for the experiments that took so many lives and left her on borrowed time. She likewise takes Edelgard's fate on this route personally, deciding she must get revenge on them for her sake as well, seeing her as a fellow victim of their machinations despite Edelgard trying to use them in the war.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Lysithea is snappy, short-tempered, and often caustic, but she does show a strong sense of camaraderie and care towards her fellow students and B Supports onward tends to show her more mellow and compassionate side. Even when being verbally harsh and critical, she tries to help out fellow students, even if the end results don't turn out well as shown with Ignatz, Marianne, Cyril, and Linhardt. [[spoiler:Eventually, she does apologize and tries to be more gentle about her critiques, with A Supports with male students sometimes blossoming into romance.]]
* JerkassRealization:
** In her supports with Ignatz, she rips into him after she takes some of his comments as patronizing ([[InnocentlyInsensitive which he wasn't trying to be at all]]), and later on she ends up patronizing him to the point he loses his temper before rushing off. She huffs to herself about it before coming to the realization she's acting exactly the way she previously accused him of behaving.
** In her C-support with Marianne, she blows up at Marianne for thinking herself useless in dealing with a magical accident. After the crisis is resolved, Lysithea realizes she went too far and goes to Marianne's room to apologize.
* KidsHateVegetables: Has a noted aversion to vegetables, and in ''Three Hopes'', Hubert even has to sneak them into her food. Most of her disliked food dishes are vegetable-based.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: If not recruited on Crimson Flower, [[spoiler:if Byleth strikes the finishing blow against her, she realizes the Alliance is done for and resisting is hopeless in general, and offers to defect. This makes her one of the very few units that can be recruited post-timeskip even if they weren't recruited at the academy.]]
* LastOfHisKind:
** In her S-support with Byleth, she announces her intentions [[spoiler:to renounce her peerage and live as a commoner from that point on. As the only child in her family, this would make her the last member of House Ordelia as a noble family, though not necessarily of its bloodline]].
** She is the last to bear two Crests should she outlive [[spoiler:Edelgard]], which she acknowledges as the reason why she absolutely has to kill Thales and his associates on Verdant Wind.
* LastSecondWordSwap: In ''Three Hopes'', if you go on an expedition with her and ask her about her favorite thing, she'll say try to hide her love of candy with a word swap to canopies. Similarly, if you ask about her least favorite thing, she'll start saying ghosts, before catching herself and saying goatees. You have to play along if you want her approval, though it's almost blatantly obvious what she meant, especially if you read her likes and dislikes on her profile beforehand.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: For Felix in their endings, especially if not on the Azure Moon route. [[spoiler:She's aware of it too, so she also makes a huge effort to make sure he can move on with his life after she dies]].
* LockedIntoStrangeness: Her hair wasn't always pure white. She woke up with it one morning as a side effect of having a second Crest imparted to her.
* {{Lunacy}}: She is one of only two units who learns Luna Λ upon reaching C in Reason, which comes with animation of the moon, runs on her high magic stat and ignores enemy resistance.
* MagicKnight: While she has low Strength, her budding talent is in Swords, and leveling it up gives her access to the combat art Soulblade, which uses her much higher Magic in addition to her Resistance. This makes her an ideal candidate for the Mortal Savant class.
* ManOfKryptonite: She learns Dark Spikes Τ earlier than others and has high enough Mag to reasonably one-shot [[OptionalBoss the Death Knight]].
* MiseryPoker: Because of how awful her life has been and how hard she tries to overcome those circumstances, she can lose her temper with people who act self-pitying or pessimistic. She starts outright yelling at Marianne in their supports because of how the latter refuses to try to help herself, even though Lysithea is still trying after going through worse things.
* MutuallyExclusivePartyMembers: In Azure Gleam of ''Three Hopes'', she is not among the Golden Deer members chosen by Claude to aid Dimitri's army, thus she cannot fight alongside [[spoiler:Dimitri, Dedue, Sylvain, Felix, Ingrid, Annette, Rodrigue, Seteth, Flayn or Catherine.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: In a few of her Supports (especially Marianne, Ignatz and Shez), Lysithea will blow up at them and accidentally hurt their feelings, only to realize her mistake when she's cooled down. She does always apologize for it, however, and it's clear she doesn't ''mean'' to come off so abrasively sometimes.
* MysticalWhiteHair: She has pure white hair and is a gifted magic-user. [[spoiler:As is the case with Edelgard]], her white hair is the result of having two Crests. Unlike the former, we never learn what Lysithea's natural hair color was.
* NonUniformUniform: Downplayed, as while she wears the standard uniform, her boot design is semi-unique and she's the only female student to wear it. (The other two with this boot design are Sylvain and Felix)
* NotHelpingYourCase: Comically, when someone makes the mistake of calling her a kid, she reacts by pouting about it, kind of proving their point.
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: [[spoiler:During the war]] on the Azure Moon route, [[spoiler:Lysithea makes it clear that she doesn't care what happens to Faerghus. She just wants to end the war before it puts her parents in danger, something especially notable with her personal loyalty to Claude in Verdant Wind and full-hearted support for Edelgard's cause in Crimson Flower.]]
* PickyEater: Because of her dislike of vegetables, she has more disliked meals than anyone else in the game, with a total of 20.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner:
-->"''Leave it to me.''" (Pre-timeskip)\\
"''Let's make this quick.''" (Post-timeskip)
* PreMortemOneLiner:
-->"''You're in my way!''"\\
"''Stay away!''"\\
"''I don't have time for this!''"\\
"''You're irrelevant!''" (Pre-timeskip)\\
"''You will regret this!''" (Post-timeskip)
* PurpleIsPowerful: Purple is a major color theme for Lysithea and if trained properly, she is one of the most formidable mages to have around in ''Three Houses'' and Three Hopes'', with many of her spells (which coincidentally are colored in purple) dealing very high amounts of damage. It says a lot that Lysithea is one of the few units that could be relied upon when dealing with the [[TheDreaded Death Knight]].
* RecurringElement:
** Lysithea is the young girl with tremendous gift of magic whose family has suffered in the hands of the bad guys similar to [[Characters/FireEmblemShadowDragonAndTheBladeOfLight Linde]] [[spoiler:(although Lysithea's parents managed to survive, it was her tons of siblings that die because of it, but regardless, her parents were still made to suffer)]].
** She shares one trait usually seen in modern Merrics (such as [[Characters/FireEmblemAwakeningFirstGenerationMales Ricken]] and [[Characters/FireEmblemFatesHoshidoRetainersAndOthers Hayato]]): [[BerserkButton She hates being treated like a child.]]
* RedBaron: In her paired ending with Hanneman. After his death, Lysithea continued his Crest research and made such strides in the field that she became known as "the Golden Child of Crestology".
* RedemptionDemotion: If recruited post-timeskip on the Crimson Flower route, she goes from a Gremory throwing Hades Ω around to a mere mage with a truncated spell list who's lost a few levels and will never get that PrestigeClass back[[labelnote:*]]Technically she can, but her Faith skill regresses to E-rank so late in the game that raising it back up to A takes dedicated effort[[/labelnote]]. Possibly justified by her weak constitution and the fact Byleth has to [[spoiler:beat her into submission before she changes sides.]]
* RocketTagGameplay: Her duels against the Death Knight play out like this. She can obliterate him to smithereens with her AntiCavalry spell, but will fall dead if he pokes lightly at her. Ultimately, the winner is the one who connects the first hit. [[spoiler:This remains true in the Crimson Flower route if she hasn't been poached. Jeritza (who is now your ally) can easily OHKO her and she can still do the same to him.]]
* SecretAIMoves: As an enemy unit, she can know Unsealable Magic and Dark Magic Avoid +20, two skills no playable character can ever obtain. She can also have Heartseeker, a ''class skill'' of the Dark Mage/Bishop class, as a normal skill.
* SecretArt: Outside of NewGamePlus, she can use Foudroyant Strike, Thunderbrand's combat art. It deals 6 extra damage, increases hit and critical by 30, and is effective against armored and dragon enemies.
* SecretKeeper: In ''Three Hopes'', her A-Support with Hubert shows that she is the only one who knows [[spoiler:Hubert has a little sister alongside his mother and little brother, who he keeps secret to protect them from his enemies. It's also implied that not even Edelgard knows about them.]]
* SeriousBusiness: As Felix discovers in their support chain, Lysithea takes her love of cake ''very'' seriously, and goes off on him when he admits to not liking sweets. In their B-support, she specifically makes one light on sugar for him just to try and make him like it.
* ASharedSuffering: The crux of her bond with Edelgard. [[spoiler:Both of them are survivors of horrific experiments to implant them with a second Crest, to the point that Lysithea is probably the character with whom Edelgard's ideology resonates the most.]]
* SixthRanger: Serves as this to Edelgard's faction. In ''Three Houses'' on the Crimson Flower route, if not recruited in Part I, [[spoiler:you can spare her and convince her to join you in Chapter 14. Notably, she's the only character who can be recruited post-timeskip without having previously been recruited (Gilbert and Jeritza join after the timeskip on their respective routes, but do so automatically).]] She's also the only non-Eagle that Edelgard treats on-par with Eagles classmates.
* SoleSurvivor: [[spoiler:Like Edelgard,]] she was one of a group of children who underwent Crest experimentation. Also [[spoiler:like Edelgard,]] she is the only one in her respective group [[spoiler:of test subjects to survive the horrific experiments.]]
* SoreLoser: In case she fails a class exam. Unlike most students who resign in shame or disappointment, Lysithea will angrily complain about her failure to succeed in her exam, citing her reason to be Byleth's "poor judgement".
* SpannerInTheWorks: Shortly after the battle at Gronder Field on the Verdant Wind path, Lysithea pulls Claude and Byleth aside and tells them about the mysterious mages she saw helping the Adrestian Army, believing them to be tied to the people who did Crest experiments on her when she was young. In doing so, Lysithea sets up the events that lead the heroes to [[spoiler:raiding the base of those who slither in the dark once they find Hubert's DyingClue]], giving them enough reason to target them.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: In ''Three Houses'' her cursed shortened lifespan can only be averted by one of a small number of mutually exclusive endings: Byleth, Claude, Linhardt, Edelgard, and Hanneman. In ''Three Hopes'', there are no mutually exclusive endings, so the issue of her fate is alluded to earlier on the Scarlet Blaze route: Edelgard is more open about the condition they both suffer from, and Hubert and Ferdinand research into the procedure and work with Linhardt, Hanneman, and more resources, to find a way to cure her (as mentioned in Lysithea's support with Ferdinand).
* StealthPun: She bears the crest of Charon, the Ancient Greek {{Psychopomp}}, whose job it was to bring people to the afterlife. Fitting for one of the strongest playable DPS unit in the game.
* SquishyWizard: Her starting stats focus on high Magic but very low HP and Defense. Her proficiencies reflect this; she is proficient with just about all types of magic, and bad at the three main weapon types (though she does have a budding talent in swords) and heavy armor.
* StarCrossedLovers: [[spoiler:Her A Support with Felix sadly ends with this. Although they develop a romantic affection for one another, may prove instrumental to Byleth's ultimate victory, and spend time together to make each other happy, Lysithea dies shortly after the final battle as the side effects of having two crests finally take their toll on the girl, leaving Felix heartbroken. [[BittersweetEnding If there is a silver lining, Felix does manage to find more purpose and meaning to life besides just fighting and training.]]]]
* SuperSoldier: [[spoiler:Those who slither in the dark artificially implanted her with a second crest as a prototype for their project in creating someone who could destroy Sothis. As a result, she has incredible magical abilities, but horrible defenses and a drastically shortened lifespan.]]
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: In her C-support with Byleth, she asks them to accompany her to the dining room, and then claims that it has "nothing to do" with her "nonexistent fear of ghosts". She will do this again in a question about ghosts in the classroom.
* SweetTooth: She loves sweets, eating them with others in several of her supports. In several of her endings, she settles down and opens a sweets shop after giving up her status as a noble.
* TalentedButTrained: Lysithea is a talented mage, [[spoiler:and doesn't like it being attributed to her crests either,]] but is also a hard worker, and hates it when people insinuate her ability is only due to talent.
* TarotMotifs:
** The crest of Charon represents The Tower. Upright, it represents a sudden massive change, and when reversed, it symbolizes being trapped in a bad situation. [[spoiler:Both of these descriptions perfectly describe Lysithea's [[DarkAndTroubledPast horrible past]] and [[YourDaysAreNumbered the result of it]].]] Additionally, the Upright meaning also entails a [[PrideBeforeAFall fall of pride]], something [[InsufferableGenius Lysithea]] [[JerkassRealization goes through]] slowly in her supports and as the game goes on.
** Her additional crest of Gloucester (The Hermit) also symbolizes immaturity and the desire to be alone when reversed. Lysithea usually blows up when she thinks she is treated like a child and often leaves conversations in a huff as a result.
* TeenGenius: Lysithea is the second-youngest among the playable cast and the youngest student at 15 years old by the start of the game, and she's a magical prodigy. This is reflected in her Personal Skill, Mastermind, where she can gain double the experience points towards skill levels in battle.
* ThereIsNoCure:
** Downplayed in her paired ending with [[UpperClassTwit Lorenz]] which is one of the few endings where she doesn't [[spoiler:die]] a few years after the events of the story due to [[spoiler:[[YourDaysAreNumbered her condition]]]] even if she is very weak and cannot make frequent public appearances because of it. The support conversations she has with Lorenz strongly imply that this is due to him making sure that she has access to proper medical treatments and follows a healthy lifestyle.
** Downplayed in that while Lysithea ''can'' be [[spoiler:[[EarnYourHappyEnding cured]]]] this can only happen if she gets a paired ending with specific characters ([[spoiler:Byleth, Claude ([[AmbiguousSituation maybe]]), Edelgard, Hanneman, and Linhardt]]).
* ThisCannotBe: If Lysithea confronts [[spoiler:Edelgard in the Imperial Palace]] on the Verdant Wind or Silver Snow route, the latter will tell her [[spoiler:that the two are alike, hinting at the Crest implantation they both suffered, and lament that they are not on the same side.]] This is Lysithea's response.
-->'''[[spoiler:Edelgard:]]''' Lysithea. [[spoiler:You and I are so alike. We could have walked the same path.]]\\
'''Lysithea:''' [[spoiler:We're alike?]] You don't mean to tell me... It can't be!
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Lysithea specializes in black magic and generally has a confrontational attitude, often displaying a gruff and bossy demeanor. Yet a good deal of her interests and quirks are girly, such as having an affinity for sweets, appreciating flowers (especially lilies), and having a childish aversion to ghosts.
* TookALevelInKindness: While she is mean, rude, and bratty, [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Lysithea does have a softer side]], which is gradually shown from B Supports onward. [[spoiler:Post-timeskip, she's considerably more mellow and reserved to the point of being more positively responsive and complimentary towards others, though this can be due to a combination of mental maturity over the years and having to deal with the fallout of the war and Byleth's disappearance.]]
* TraumaButton: [[spoiler:Lysithea has an aversion to talking about the future and snaps angrily at anyone who mentions it because as she was forcibly given a second crest which greatly shortens her lifespan, she doesn't really have a future that she could talk about without being reminded that she would die young.]]
* TsurimeEyes: Lysithea has large, sharp-slanted eyes, befitting her sharp-tongued personality, which is especially noticeable if you compare her with the laid-back Hilda's droopy eyes.
* UndyingLoyalty:
** To Claude on the Verdant Wind path, whom she respects for doing all he can to keep the Alliance together, even on the Crimson Flower route despite being recruitable. She supports him despite the fact that her family sides with the empire in the war. [[spoiler:The idea of asking to be spared was something Claude told both her and Hilda to do should they be beaten, which is why she has such an opportunity]]. Even when she is on opposing sides with Claude, she has nothing to say but good things about the work he did to keep the Alliance united, and how he did his all to protect it. On the Verdant Wind route, [[spoiler:Claude solemnly promises to take out the shadowy group that performed Crest experimentation on her.]]
** To Edelgard, should she be poached for the Black Eagles [[spoiler:and Byleth sides with Edelgard instead of the church, or if she's recruited on the Crimson Flower route after the timeskip]], especially if they reach A-rank support. [[spoiler:Edelgard's commitment to abolishing the nobility and destroying the concepts of Crests as being all-important in society resonates deeply with Lysithea, whose life has been well and truly ruined by them. The fact that Edelgard [[ASharedSuffering has also been through the same torturous blood reconstruction surgery]] to be implanted with a second Crest that Lysithea went through means that by the end of the route, she is 100% committed to making Edelgard's dream a reality with the time she has left. Best of all, their paired ending (Lysithea is the only student outside of the Black Eagle house who can support with Edelgard) is one where they eventually succeed in having their Crests removed, extending their lifespans and making many societal and technological advancements for Fódlan.]]
* UnkemptBeauty: Lysithea doesn't bother much with keeping up appearances [[spoiler:since she knows she doesn't have long to live and thus isn't all that interested in relationships.]] Exemplifying this is one of her lost items, an unused bottle of perfume. Yet, Hilda certainly thinks she has potential to be an utter DudeMagnet, and considering all the tropes describing her cuteness, it's easy to see her angle.
* UpgradeVsPrototypeFight: [[spoiler:Lysithea is the FlawedPrototype to Edelgard's Upgrade, and the two can directly cross blades in five of the seven routes in both Fódlan games. Accordingly, they have unique combat dialogue in ''Three Houses'', with the version seen in Silver Snow and Verdant Wind shedding light on the fact that they have gone through the same experiments.]]
* VideoGameCaringPotential: [[spoiler:The experimentation done on Lysithea to give her a second Crest]] has significantly shortened her lifespan. It is possible for her to be cured, but this doesn't happen in the story proper. Instead the player needs to get an A support level between and another character who could help her, such as [[spoiler:Byleth, Claude ([[AmbiguousSituation maybe]]), Edelgard, Hanneman or Linhardt]], and ensure she gets a paired ending with said character, in which case their joint epilogue text explains she was cured.
* VillainExitStageLeft: While certainly not villainous, unlike the other recruitable characters in chapter 7 of Scarlet Blaze, Lysithea will flee from battle instead of dying when she's defeated.
* ViolationOfCommonSense: The frail Lysithea with the lowest HP cap in the game is actually a very good candidate for Mortal Savant class, thanks to her sky-high Mag growth and budding talent in Swords. It'll take some additional abilities (most importantly ''Vantage'' and perhaps ''Desperation'') and a Levin Sword, but she'll become InstantDeathRadius incarnate, killing any enemy that approaches her.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: She makes only one brief storyline appearance on the Azure Gleam route in ''Three Hopes'' before disappearing.
* WhenSheSmiles: Her supports with Hilda and Cyril have them comment on how she can be very pretty when she smiles.
* {{Workaholic}}: She trains very hard to be where she is and often works herself to the point of exhaustion. [[spoiler:[[DeconstructedTrope This is likely do to her shortened lifespan]] - she feels she ''can't'' slow down or she won't accomplish everything she wants to do before her time is up.]] It's even reflected in one of her quotes if she doesn't level up sufficiently:
-->'''Lysithea:''' I don't have ''time'' for failure!
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Is deeply afraid of ghosts.
* YinYangBomb: She learns exclusively dark magic from her Reason skill, and also has access to the most powerful offensive white magic from Faith. She uses both of them to an exceptional degree in ''Three Hopes''.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: Thanks to having a Crest unnaturally implanted in her, Lysithea has a drastically shortened lifespan. In some of her endings, [[spoiler:the Crest is able to be removed and save her,]] but in others [[spoiler:she will pass away shortly after the events of the game]].
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre:
** She says as much to Marianne in their B-Support, telling Marianne that instead of always assuming the worst about herself, she should give herself a chance because there's so much that she can accomplish if she tries.
** She says this to Annette, shooting down the latter's HeroicSelfDeprecation when she comments how she's jealous of how far ahead of her Lysithea is.
* YouRemindMeOfX:
** Raphael admits that she reminds him of his little sister Maya, because they are both stubborn and intelligent. Raphael channeling an imitation of his sister to Lysithea when she is being stubborn leads her to believe he was mimicking her, but admits it was pretty spot on.
** In ''Three Hopes'', Hubert admits that she reminds him of [[spoiler:his own little sister, and he protects his family so closely that no one even knows he has one.]]
* YouWillNotEvadeMe: Her unique ability "Cursed Expulsion" in ''Three Hopes'' explodes enemies with dark damage when they're sent flying. If they are Spellbound (which dark damage inflicts), Lysithea can drag them back to her location to continue her combo.

->''"Keep me off the battlefield, and maybe I won't tell everyone you were daydreaming."''

The spoiled yet sweet daughter of Duke Goneril. She has a habit of slacking off and is good at charming people. She has a fondness for beautiful and fashionable things.\\\

Her personal ability, ''Advocate'', increases the damage of any adjacent male ally in combat. She bears the Minor Crest of Goneril, which gives her a chance to prevent enemy counterattacks while using Combat Arts.
----
* AchievementsInIgnorance: In her A Support with Holst in ''Three Hopes'', Hilda is alarmed when a feast she expected to be held in Holst's honor is actually meant for her even though she only cut down a few men before falling back. Unbeknownst to her, she'd struck down the enemy commander with a single blow, turning the enemy forces into a DecapitatedArmy that swiftly crumbled.
* AgeGapRomance: Her relationship with Balthus can become this as he is eight years older than her.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter:
** Hilda describes her older brother as being perfect. No matter what she does, she thinks she'll never be able to surpass him, so she lowers everyone else's expectations to avoid being compared to him. She also fears experiencing the disappointment even her brother does whenever he fails to meet the expectations around him (see below).
** [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed]] in her supports with Byleth. While Holst is better than her, it's explained that it wasn't because he was TheAce, but because he was put through harsh expectations by their parents, something Hilda was forced to watch. Whenever Holst failed at something, he was berated by their parents for it, which forced him to work tirelessly to prove himself. Seeing this made Hilda believe that she could never handle such responsibility, and so she purposely made herself look lazy and useless so that nobody could expect things from her. Holst is better than her because Hilda would prefer to be seen as a waste of talent over being forced to burden so much responsibility. Essentially, Hilda is sabotaging herself, making her brother look better than her simply to avoid responsibilities. Balthus even acknowledges that if Hilda applied herself she would be every bit as skilled as Holst.
* AncestralWeapon: She gains use of House Goneril's Relic weapon, the axe Freikugel, after completion of the paralogue "A World Divided." Due to her ancestry and Crest, she's the only member of the cast who can wield it safely and unleash its full potential. In ''Three Hopes'', she automatically has it in her inventory starting with Chapter 4.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Claude assumes she is this to her older brother, but Hilda insists that it's her brother that's the annoying sibling.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther:
** With Claude. For all of their bickering, Hilda is rather loyal to him, despite being recruitable to the other houses.
** If not recruited on the Azure Moon route, [[spoiler:while complaining about Claude giving her important tasks, Hilda resolves to protect Claude no matter what when Arundel lays siege to Derdriu]].
** On the Crimson Flower, [[spoiler:she fights for Claude to the end, potentially at the cost of her own life]].
** With her brother Holst too, as she mostly sounds exasperated when speaking of her brother, but when he gets badly injured near the end of the Golden Deer route, the usually lazy Hilda is suddenly ''pumped'' to fight the people who hurt him, much to the shock of her classmates.
* BabiesEverAfter: In her paired ending with Caspar they have lots of kids.
* BadassBoast: One of her "hidden" critical hit lines, i.e. only seen if she gets a critical hit against another student or faculty member:
-->"''You can't handle my best.''"
* BeautyBreedsLaziness: She's attractive and knows it, with several of her supports involving her getting male classmates to perform her tasks and chores for her. Many of her pre-TimeSkip conversations and battle quotes imply laziness in other areas as well, such as requesting not to be used in battle. In addition to her beauty, she's the [[SuperpowerfulGenetics Crest-bearing]] younger sister of Lord Holst, the greatest hero in the Alliance, making her a very desirable marriage candidate for the aspiring male nobles at the Academy. She knows she doesn't have to work hard to get the cushy life she desires... She then Subverts the trope in Part II after the time skip where a continent-wide war has broken out and, if the Golden Deer House was chosen, quickly becomes the #2 in the Alliance as well as the monastary's logistician.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: Both of her post-timeskip outfits showcase her generous cleavage, and she first showed up in ''Heroes'' in a bikini. Given that she's known to use her beauty to sucker others into doing things for her, she likely makes use of her bosom to do it when necessary.
* BrilliantButLazy: Hilda is surprisingly crafty and observant of her surroundings, and often exploits people to get out of work. Her support with Byleth makes it clear this was by choice to avoid being forced to burden the expectations of those around her. She also constantly claims to be weak and has "noodly arms", but in fact has one of the better strength growths in the entire game and can easily defeat enemy units left and right.
* TheCameo: Alongside Claude and Lorenz in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'', watching fights on the Bridge portion of the downloadable Garreg Mach Monastery stage.
* CharacterDevelopment: At the beginning, Hilda is always making excuses to not do any work or go to the battlefield. Post-timeskip, she has mostly grown out of her laziness, even if she still doesn't like to work hard. This is more prominent on the Verdant Wind route, where she actively schemes with Claude. Moreover she overall becomes more comfortable with people wanting to seriously rely on her, though she remains quite fun-loving and lighthearted when able.
* ChargedAttack: Her unique ability "Lightning Bound" in ''Three Hopes'' lets her charge up her strong combo finisher, infusing it with lightning damage and sucking in nearby enemies.
* ChildhoodFriends: Balthus is her brother Holst's best friend. It can potentially turn into a ChildhoodFriendRomance.
* CoolBigSis: She acts as this towards Lysithea in their supports, introducing her to various feminine hobbies like perfume and makeup. She even refers to herself as "[Lysithea's] big sister".
* ConvenientReplacementCharacter: [[PlayedWith Gameplay-only example.]] [[spoiler:Hilda can take up Edelgard's role as an axe-wielding powerhouse after the latter leaves on Chapter 11 of the Black Eagles route should Byleth side with the Church. Unlike most examples of this trope, however, Hilda must be recruited manually during a very narrow timeframe of ''two weeks'' for her to take the role.]]
* CoyGirlishFlirtPose: Her post timeskip portrait has her posing in this fashion, and she likes to spend her time charming men into doing favors for her and even attempts to seduce Caspar in their A support. She also does this for her unique battle animation when selected for movement or attacking with gambits while equipped with axes.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: For all of her laziness, when Claude isn't around, she's willing to take up the position as his number two. In her paralogue, she drops her lazy act in order to protect the border when her brother falls ill.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: Her hair and eyes are pink.
* CuteBruiser: She's quite adorable in appearance, and she also happens to be very proficient in axes.
* DeclarationOfProtection: Toward [[spoiler:Claude in the Azure Moon route should you not recruit her. When tasked with defending the bridge (the only thing separating the Empire from getting to Claude), she keeps her feet firm and declares to protect him]].
* DefiantToTheEnd: On Azure Moon and Crimson Flower (if left unrecruited), she'll [[spoiler:fight to the death in Derdriu, with Claude lamenting afterward that he had told her to not do so and to retreat if she was in danger]].
* DeliberateUnderPerformance: She's always slacking off because she doesn't want people to expect anything of her since she's afraid of disappointing them.
* DidTheyOrDidntThey: It's never said whether or not she was successful at getting the completely oblivious Caspar to have sex with her after tricking him into coming back to her room in their A-support. If the timelines where their paired ending is achieved are any indication, they probably did.
* DistractedByTheSexy: Implied in her support with Ignatz in ''Three Hopes'', where she doesn't recognize him without his glasses, but also mentions how attractive he looks without them.
* DivergentCharacterEvolution: In the ''Cindered Shadows'' DLC, since both her and Edelgard are axe-focused units, Hilda starts off as a Warrior, making her a GlassCannon, while Edelgard starts off as a Fortress Knight, making her a MightyGlacier.
* DudeMagnet: Most her supports shows her constantly charming men into doing the work for her.
* EverybodyHasStandards: In their B support, Mercedes manages to make Hilda feel guilty about offloading her work on others, prompting her to put in some effort.
* FanservicePack: Her bust goes from the 4th largest pre-timeskip to tying with Mercedes for the 3rd largest post-timeskip. Her new clothes in both ''Three Houses'' and ''Three Hopes'' also do a better job at highlighting her figure.
* FavorsForTheSexy: {{Exploit|ed Trope}}s this to no end, deliberately playing up her own good looks to charm men into doing work for her. Its even reflected in her personal skill; Male allies get a hefty damage buff when adjacent to her.
* FighterMageThief: In Cindered Shadows, she acts as the Fighter to Linhardt's Mage and Ashe's Thief. Her available classes (Brigand, Pegasus Knight, Warrior) are focused on dealing damage and she has the highest per-hit damage of the three, while lacking Linhardt's magical prowess or Ashe's lockpicking skills.
* {{Foil}}:
** She has one in Caspar. They come from noble families that hold an important seat in their respective territories and are often overshadowed by their older siblings, with Caspar's older brother bearing a Crest and being the heir (although Edelgard considers him an InadequateInheritor); while Hilda's older brother Holst is TheAce, despite lacking a Crest, and the reason she is a LazyBum. Caspar is hot-headed, a bit dense and very passionate and prefers to be told the blunt, harsh truth as he aspires to become something great; while Hilda is lazy, cunning, very perceptive and prefers to sweet-talk her way through problems while keeping the expectations of others toward her low to avoid disappointment. They have a PinkGirlBlueBoy scheme going on as a duo and both have unique requirements to be recruited - Caspar is the only student who requires a Brawling proficiency to join another House, while Hilda is the only student to require Axes. Fittingly for foils, they get along very well with each other, their supports consisting of a lot of compliments about how they admire the way the other lives their life, and general positivity. They likewise make for a very happy and lively married couple in their paired ending with each other.
** She serves as a foil to Hubert and Dedue much as those two serve as foils to each other. All three have the role of 'retainers' with the closest relationships to each of the three lords. However...
*** Hubert and Dedue are zealously loyal to Edelgard and Dimitri and would go to questionable lengths in their respective names, while Hilda is much more willing to give Claude a hard time.
*** Hubert and Dedue had each known Edelgard and Dimitri for years prior to the start of the game, while Hilda met Claude the same time as everyone else due to how he essentially popped out of thin air.
*** Neither Hubert nor Dedue particularly care or invest too much in what people say about them (while Dedue will discourage people from associating with him, it's for the sake of ''their'' reputations, not his), seeing it as a distraction from their service to their lords. Hilda, by contrast, absolutely does care in the sense that she is terrified of letting people down by setting up expectations she can't live up to, hence why she allows her brother all the glory in their family.
*** While the other two retainers are both towering in stature (Dedue moreso than Hubert, as he stands at 204cm and is built like an oak tree), Hilda is even shorter than Edelgard, [[PintSizedPowerhouse though just as powerful]].
*** And finally, while Hubert and Dedue are fairly antisocial and don't engage much with others besides their respective lords, albeit for different reasons, Hilda is very outgoing and socializes with people to a far greater extent. Notably, she's the only one of the three in ''Three Houses'' who can support with students from different houses (Hubert and Dedue can only support with their houses, Byleth, Shamir, and certain members of the Church), and who can be recruited out of the Golden Deer. However, she is loyal enough to the Alliance that she cannot be recruited to the same side as the Flame Emperor; so for all the differences Hilda has from her fellow retainers, she is just like them in that she will never fight her homeland (outside Gronder Field on Azure Moon, but that's a whole mess).
* FreudianSlip: In her A-Support with Claude, Hilda will let it slip that she has been able to figure out when Claude is faking a smile because she's watched him enough to tell when he is genuine. [[VerbalBackspace She immediately realizes the implication of what she said]] and tries to downplay, only for Claude to admit that [[IUhYouToo he's done the same with her]].
* GirlishPigtails: Wears her hair like this, and has an interest in beautiful and fashionable things. While she switches her hairstyle to a voluminous ponytail after the time skip, her ponytail still splits in the middle to give an impression of the pigtails she used to have.
* GirlyBruiser: Although she would prefer not to do the bruiser part, Hilda is extremely girly and effective with an axe in hand.
* GlacierWaif: This frail-looking girl has a budding talent in heavy armor and the weapon proficiencies to back it up.
* GlassCannon: Hilda sports impressive growths in Strength and Speed, notably being tied with Female Byleth for having the third best Strength growth for all the female units, but her defenses are rather lacking unless you train her in heavy armor, which instead turns her into a MightyGlacier.
* GrowlingGut: Discussed during a perfect tea time where she'll get a little on edge and randomly tell Byleth [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial "If you hear anything, it's not my stomach grumbling. Just so you know,"]] completely unprompted.
* GuysSmashGirlsShoot: Inverted; her main weapon is an axe, while Claude uses a bow.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation:
** According to herself, Hilda is the type of person who could never sacrifice her life for another. [[spoiler:This is either a lie or a severe underestimation of her own integrity: under no circumstances will she flee and leave Claude in harm's way once Derdriu is invaded on either the Azure Moon (if not recruited) or Crimson Flower routes. She'd rather die, and ''[[DefiantToTheEnd will]]'' [[LastStand fight to the death]].]]
** Her brother Holst says that Hilda never takes enough pride in her own accomplishments. In their A Support in ''Three Hopes'', Hilda berates herself for not having even a modicum of talent that Holst does, only to be barraged by compliments from Holst's own men, as she'd unwittingly cut down the enemy commander in a single blow. Holst then tells Hilda to have the pride to match her strength and achievements.
* HiddenDepths:
** On the surface, she's just a spoiled and lazy airhead, but she turns out to be extremely perceptive in Part I and notices several red flags that hint towards major plot points. She notices that Monica is unnaturally cheerful for someone who allegedly spent a year in captivity and that she's [[spoiler:spending a lot of time with Edelgard]] in Chapter 7. She also realizes that her Heroes' Relic Freikugel pulsates at the end of her paralogue and calls it creepy.
** Her A-support with Byleth reveals that she is a lot more insecure then she lets on, in large part because her brother is such [[TheAce an ace]]. She doesn't want to fail and let people down, so she does her best to set expectations low so that she cannot be a disappointment to anyone. At the same time, she values her friends and wants to help them, making her torn between being better then she can be, and being seen as a failure.
** When push comes to shove on the Azure Moon and Crimson Flower routes, [[spoiler:Hilda will fight to the death rather than abandon Claude and the Alliance to the Empire's mercy]].
* ImpliedLoveInterest: To Claude, particularly in the event of a male Byleth. She's his most loyal follower among the Golden Deer (albeit not to Hubert or Dedue's extent) [[spoiler:to the point that, against his wishes, she'll die for him on Azure Moon and Crimson Flower.]] Even in their supports, they act flirty with one another as early as rank ''C'', with Claude getting in a rather risque remark about being grasped. Claude is surprisingly open with telling Hilda about his past, something he is secretive with everyone else and even drags his feet with Byleth. Their A-Support even have them both admitting that they were able to pick on each other CharacterTics because they have a habit of letting their eyes wander to the other. [[spoiler:In their paired ending, they become king and queen of Almyra.]]
* {{Irony}}:
** Hilda is initially very lazy, and many of her supports revolve around her getting others to do her work for her. In her supports with Byleth, she requests to just be moral support and not be put on the front lines, as she claims she would never risk her neck to save someone else. [[spoiler:On the post-timeskip Azure Moon and Crimson Flower paths, she supports Claude on the battle against the Empire in Derdriu, and can potentially die in the process (if not recruited on the latter)[[note]]unless you take a flying unit straight to Claude (who, we should remind you, '''wields a bow''') and ignore her completely in Crimson Flower, or take out Lord Arundel before he reaches the harbor in Azure Moon[[/note]], even though this time Claude actually ''wants'' her to retreat. So she ends up working hard in battle and voluntarily giving her life to save someone else after all.]] [[spoiler:She even lampshades the change of her attitude and newly-found willingness to sacrifice her life for her companions in her death quote as a playable unit:]]
--->'''Hilda''': [[spoiler:I'm...dying for someone else? I can't believe this.]]
** The original Goneril was a War Master, [[spoiler:if the revived version in the Verdant Wind endgame is any indicator.]] Hilda cannot become a War Master due to it being a male-only class.
** In her support with Cyril, she says she's heard that Almyrans are unreliable, but in several of her monastery dialogues, she assures Byleth that [[spoiler:Claude]] is actually very reliable despite how he acts, not knowing that [[spoiler:he is actually Almyran]].
* LaboriousLaziness: In many of her supports, Hilda tries to get out of work but sometimes the person will end up doing something that will make her do the very work she wanted them to do.
* LampshadeHanging: Hilda is the only Crest-bearing character who notes how unsettling the Hero's Relics look, having moving and pulsating parts as if they were alive. [[spoiler:It serves as heavy {{Foreshadowing}} to the Relics' true nature.]]
* LazyBum: She tends to act like one, often trying to push responsibilities she doesn't like onto someone else, or coming up with excuses to avoid activities she doesn't want to do. In truth she is quite smart and capable in many areas, and often steps up to perform a task well if the person she tried to push it onto isn't doing a good job. She admits to Byleth that she doesn't like doing most work because she doesn't like failure, reasoning that if nobody expects anything of her, she can't fall short of those expectations.
* LetsGetDangerous: Hilda constantly tries to find methods and excuses to make people do her work for her, even on the battlefield. But when things get dire, the mask slips and she demonstrates that she really is [[OneManArmy Holst]]'s sibling and is fiercely loyal to Claude. In ''Three Hopes'' in her shared paralogue with Holst and Balthus, she gets angered at her kidnappers when they dismiss her as being "a weak girl", and she proceeds to beat them all up singlehandedly.
--->'''Hilda''': Weak? I'll show you weak! Ragh!
--->'''Balthus''': Not smart, pals. Even I can't handle a ticked off Hilda...
* ManipulativeBitch: She is known to apply very manipulative tactics in order to set some other poor sap up with whatever jobs she doesn't want to carry out herself.
* MeaningfulName:
** Hilda is a Norse name meaning "battle", fitting for a GirlyBruiser like her.
** Her middle name, Valentine, is also pretty appropriate for a girly, SpoiledSweet [[TheTease tease]] with a pink colour scheme.
* MissingMom: While Hilda frequently writes to her big brother and mentions her father quite a few times, we don't even know if her mother is still alive or not.
* MsFanservice: Competes with Dorothea for being the biggest source of {{Fanservice}} among the ''Three Houses cast; post timeskip, her breasts grow to be on par with Mercedes (making them tied for 3rd largest bust size in the game) and she wears clothes that show them off. Her S rank image is basically her doing a pose for a pinup photo. Even before the timeskip, she's quite the source of eyecandy compared to many of the other students via her twintails, ZettaiRyouiki, and large breasts (4th largest at the time). And subtly, regarding the default uniforms, those just wearing skirts mostly have some variant of ModestyShorts while Hilda... doesn't. Lysithea notes how Hilda {{exploit|ed trope}}s this, meticulously making herself attractive in order to sucker others into doing tasks for her.
* MutuallyExclusivePartyMembers:
** In ''Three Houses'' she cannot fight on the same side as [[spoiler:Edelgard (outside of the "Cindered Shadows" expansion), Hubert, or Jeritza]].
** In ''Three Hopes'', she's not recruitable outside of Golden Wildfire, and even when Claude and Dimitri join forces midway in Azure Gleam, she is not among the Golden Deer members chosen by Claude to aid Dimitri's army; thus she cannot fight alongside [[spoiler:Edelgard, Hubert, Caspar, Ferdinand, Monica, Manuela, Dimitri, Dedue, Sylvain, Ingrid, Felix, Annette, Rodrigue, Seteth, Flayn or Catherine]]. However, [[spoiler:Mercedes and Jeritza]] can fight alongside her in the final chapter as ally [=NPC=]s, and the latter is also an ally in Chapter 2.
* NiceMeanAndInbetween: The Nice of the three retainers. While lazy and not above manipulating people into doing her work for her, Hilda is a friendly individual who is far less ruthless than Dedue or Hubert.
* NobleBigot: Her supports with Cyril show that she has some prejudice towards Almyrans, believing them to be violent and obsessed with fighting (granted, they ''do'' have a heavy warrior culture thing going on), though it doesn't affect how she interacts with Cyril [[spoiler:or Claude, provided that she knows about his heritage]]. Cyril helps her understand the fallacy in broadly judging a group of people, and in their paired ending, [[spoiler:they get together and bridge the animosity between House Goneril and the Almyrans.]]
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: If you recruit her on the Azure Moon route, she will make no secret of the fact that she [[spoiler:does not particularly care for Dimitri or what happens to the Kingdom]]. She also bluntly states that, if it weren't for Byleth, she wouldn't have rejoined the class after the timeskip.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Her big brother gets badly injured trying to stop the final boss' advance shortly before the last stage of the Verdant Wind route. After she learns that, the others are surprised to see her actually ''pumped'' for the final battle.
* PermanentlyMissableContent: Hilda has a very short window of possibly recruiting her if you opted to play the Black Eagles route. [[spoiler:Should Byleth side with the Church, you only have a two week window to try and recruit Hilda. Not helping matters is that since Hilda is otherwise unrecruitable in the route prior to Chapter 12, up to this point you would've been locked out of being able to raise her support ranks through returning Lost Items, Gifts and Tea Times]].
* PintsizedPowerhouse: She's only 154 cm and no taller after the timeskip. It does not hinder her ability to crush enemies with axes in the slightest. In Golden Wildfire in ''Three Hopes'' [[spoiler:she easily blocks a jumping stab from Dimitri meant for Claude with Freikugel without moving an inch.]]
* PlayingSick: Some of her supports have her faking sickness to get out of trouble. Sometimes she is successful, other times, not so much.
* PlotArmor: On the Verdant Wind route she cannot die on Classic Mode, instead retreating and still appearing in cutscenes, though her ending card will mention she succumbed to her wounds shortly after the war.[[note]]The same applies to Seteth & Flayn on the Silver Snow route, Gilbert on the Azure Moon route and Hubert on the Crimson Flower route[[/note]]
* PowerfulButInaccurate: Hilda can learn the Diamond Axe combat art upon reaching A rank in axes. It let her deal 14 extra damage at the cost of 20 accuracy.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner:
-->"''Who, me?''" (Pre-timeskip)\\
"''Shall we?''" (Post-timeskip)
* PreMortemOneLiner:
-->"''You're making me work!''"\\
"''That's enough!''"\\
"''Guess I have no choice!''"\\
"''You asked for it!''"\\
"''You might as well give up!''" (Pre-timeskip)
* QuestGiver: She hands out the supply run sidequests on the Verdant Wind route.
* RecurringElement: Of [[Characters/FireEmblemShadowDragonAndTheBladeOfLight Bord and Cord]]. She's a pink-haired, unmotivated axe fighter that favors speed and defense, contrasting Caspar, the cyan-haired, hot-blooded axe fighter with greater focus in health and skill.
* RedOniBlueOni: Has this dynamic with Marianne, as the more cheerful and talkative Red Oni. It's even reflected in her hair color, which is pink in contrast to Marianne's light blue.
* RightUnderTheirNoses: She is not at all pleased to discover that [[spoiler:those who slither in the dark's main base, Shambhala, is within her family's territory.]]
* RoseHairedSweetie: Her hair is pink, and she has a sweet personality. Whether she's genuinely sweet or faking it to charm someone into doing work for her depends on the person she's talking to, though she ''is'' a genuinely caring person regardless. In ''Three Hopes'', her brother Holst is shown to have the same hair and eye color.
* SecretAIMoves: One where it actually helps the player. [[spoiler:As an ally unit on the Azure Moon route,]] she knows Anchor, which prevents her from being moved, and is a skill no playable unit can obtain.
* SecretArt: Outside of NewGamePlus, she is the only unit that can use Apocalyptic Flame, Freikugel's combat art. It deals 15 extra damage and increases hit by 20, lowers enemy's Strength by 5, and deals effective damage against dragons.
* ShockAndAwe: Learns Thunder-element spells if trained in Reason magic, notably being one of three playable characters in the entire game with access to the ultimate Thunder magic, Bolting. While Hilda's Magic aptitudes are not great, Thoron and Bolting give her attacks that significantly surpass the potential range of her usual weapon, her axes. Her charged attacks in ''Three Hopes'' are also imbued with lightning, and she can also learn the Essence of Lightning skill from the Monk class lines, powering up all of her electric-based attacks.
* SoleSurvivor: If not recruited on the Azure Moon route, she is the only member of Claude's retinue guaranteed to survive [[spoiler:the Battle of Gronder]] other than Claude himself.
* SorryThatImDying: If Hilda [[spoiler:falls in the battle for Derdriu on the Crimson Flower route]], she will apologize to [[ImpliedLoveInterest Claude]] for leaving him so soon.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: In ''Three Houses'', Hilda could perish on Crimson Flower (unless the player bypasses her entirely in Chapter 14), Silver Snow (if recruited and subsequently dying), and Azure Moon (same as SS, or if allowed to fall in Chapter 19 as an NPC). In ''Three Hopes'' she's given narrative PlotArmour in Azure Gleam and Scarlet Blaze as [[spoiler:an ally, though it is revoked if Byleth is not recruited on Scarlet Blaze]].
* SpoiledSweet: Though she is quite spoiled, particularly by her father and big brother, she also proves to be a loyal friend and comrade when the chips are down, especially to Claude.
* SuccessfulSiblingSyndrome: She's on the receiving end; her brother is so successful that she believes she can't compare, and moreover doesn't like the idea of the pressure she could be under if she did become comparable.
* SympathyForTheDevil: Despite otherwise not caring for him upon seeing what he's become, in Verdant Wind [[spoiler:she's saddened and horrified upon witnessing Dimitri's UndignifiedDeath]].
* TaremeEyes: Hilda has large, droopy pink eyes to reflect her lackadaisical ways.
* TarotMotifs: The Crest of Goneril represents the Wheel of Fortune arcana. When reversed, the Wheel of Fortune represents disappointment. As Hilda is on the receiving end of SuccessfulSiblingSyndrome, Hilda drove herself to be as lazy as possible so as to avoid putting a bad name on her family's reputation and so no one would expect so much out of her.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: She's the airheaded and fashion-conscious girly girl to Leonie's practical, down-to-earth tomboy.
* TookALevelInBadass: In Part 1, she's rather lazy and unmotivated in battle, whereas in Part 2, she becomes more ruthless and more willing to fight.
-->'''Part 1:''' Ugh, I'm all ''sweaty!''\\
'''Part 2:''' Can't afford to slack off.
* UndyingLoyalty: Downplayed with Claude. While she ''can'' be recruited, she's locked out of the Black Eagles house [[spoiler:unless you side with the church]] and is incredibly difficult to recruit otherwise. There is no route where she can kill Claude, [[note]]She can fight him on the Azure Moon route, but he'll survive this encounter.[[/note]] [[spoiler:and she'll even sacrifice her life for his cause, if pushed]].
* UnskilledButStrong: Hilda has a high growth in Strength but suffers from a poor Dexterity growth.
* VillainExitStageLeft: While not exactly villainous, she retreats from battle if you defeat her in Chapter 17 on the Azure Moon route.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse:
** On the Crimson Flower route, during the battle of Derdriu, it's technically possible to [[spoiler:defeat Claude without killing her]]. [[note]]By going through the bridges of the Almyran ships Nader used to ambush Edelgard's army, the Black Eagles squadron can avoid the soldiers stationed in the city. Sufficiently fast units may reach and defeat Claude before Hilda can reach them. [[EasyLevelTrick Alternatively]], use of Warp, Stride, and Edelgard's Raging Storm can allow her to reach Claude on turn one, and it's quite possible to also stun her with [[BoringButPractical Bernadetta's Encloser Combat Art]] while the rest of the party makes their way to Claude.[[/note]] However, the game won't mention what happens to her after the battle, [[spoiler:even if Byleth and Edelgard manage to spare Claude, and he instructed her to join the Empire]].
** On the Azure Moon route, after Dimitri's rescue of Claude in Derdriu, the game makes no mention about her state or whereabouts, regardless of whether or not [[spoiler:she survived defending Claude the previous chapter]].
* YouShallNotPass: In Azure Moon, [[spoiler:she is among the last of Claude's retainers standing and guards the empire's path to Claude. She has the ability Anchor, that prevents her from being moved, so she WILL let herself die before the empire is allowed to reach him.]]

[[caption-width-right:350:''[[TheBigGuy Beast of Leicester]]'']]

->''"Are you really as strong as they say? Let's see your biceps! I bet I pack more muscle than you!"''

The son of a Leicester mercantile family. His parents passed away in an unfortunate accident, but he remains optimistic and is devoted to the cafeteria menu and training to become a knight. He dislikes lectures, instead preferring to build up his muscles.\\\

His personal ability, ''Goody Basket'', has a chance of healing some of his health at the start of the turn.
----
* ApologeticAttacker: Post timeskip, in one of his critical-hit quotes and post-victory quotes, respectively:
--> "''Sorry about this!''"\\
"''Sorry it's gotta be like this.''"
* BadassNormal: He doesn't have a Crest and is a MagicallyIneptFighter, but it doesn't slow him down. He also doesn't care about this status.
* BadassesWearBandanas: His war outfit in ''Three Hopes'' has him wearing a bandana.
* BareFistedMonk: He can become this if he follows the Brawler/Grappler/War Master line. More literally, the War Monk class introduced with ''Cindered Shadows'' suits his preferences for fistfighting and can let him serve as a CombatMedic.
* BestFriendsInLaw: If he and Ignatz have an A-Rank support, in their paired ending, Raphael's sister Maya marries Ignatz.
* BigBrotherInstinct:
** He's immediately protective of Lysithea whenever he sees her having trouble. Raphael has a little sister himself, so naturally, his instincts transferred over. He also acts this way towards Flayn and Bernadetta.
** A much more serious example occurs in ''Three Hopes'' on the Scarlet Blaze route. [[spoiler:If Byleth is not recruited, Claude betrays Edelgard at Ailell and turns against the recruited Golden Deer, causing a furious Raphael to rage at Claude for endangering his little sister.]]
--->'''Raphael:''' I can't believe you, [[spoiler:Claude! By putting the Alliance in danger, you put ''Maya'' in danger!]]
* BigEater: His appetite is a big part of his character. He has to build those muscles somehow.
* TheBigGuy: His uniform's shirt barely fits him. The vest and blazer on top are presumably already a lost cause. He also has the highest strength growth of the Golden Deer students and has strengths in the weapons suited for hard-hitting classes like Warrior and Grappler.
* BigGuyLittleGuy: The Big to Ignatz's Little.
* BigThinShortTrio: Forms this with Ignatz and Lorenz, serving as the Big member.
* BirdsOfAFeather:
** He and Caspar get along well and can Support with each other. Given their shared love of fighting and BigEater tendencies and similar weapon proficiencies, this makes a lot of sense.
** Raphael warms up to Shez because of how much they have in common; two commoners trying to make their way through life in a war, both lost their parents at a young age, but press forward with a smile, and both of them are more brawn than brains at times.
** While he can't support with Holst in ''Three Hopes'', Raphael does mention in his supports with Hilda that he's been sharing training routines and stories about their respective sisters.
* BoisterousBruiser: Physically he's one of the strongest and imposing characters in the game, yet at the same time he's incredibly jolly and always tries to act friendly to everyone.
* BondOneLiner:
-->"''You should have seen that coming.''" (post timeskip)\\
"''Can't afford to lose.''" (post timeskip)\\
"''No chance.''" (post timeskip)
* BookDumb:
** Raphael struggles with learning in a classroom setting, but give him something he can learn through physical training, and he'll surprise you. It's revealed through Byleth that it's not so much that's he's too stupid to teach but rather Raphael's priorities are in his muscles and his sister, and he thinks book smarts don't help him in either of his priorities.
** He recognizes and justifies this in the beginning of 'Death Toll'; he ascribes to Byleth that as much as you plan on strategy, the enemy rarely, if ever, acts the way you like during battle, so why bother learning it in a classroom when in practice it probably won't do you a great deal of good?
** It's worth noting that Raphael can learn both Reason and Faith just fine (though he has growth penalties in the former), both skills that traditionally involve a lot of reading. It can be presumed he doesn't have any trouble with it since you can get results from books in the form of casting black or white magic and is more a practiced skill than one relying on memorization.
* BoulderBludgeon: In ''Three Hopes'' his unique Warrior Special is this. He digs a rock almost as big as he is out of the ground and hurls it at his opponents.
* BridalCarry: Does this to female Byleth in his S-Support CG illustration.
* BrutishCharacterBrutishWeapon: Granted he may be too nice to be a true brute, but nonetheless he's one of the Deer's main melee damage tanks alongside Hilda, DumbMuscle and his two main weapons he does well with are axes and gauntlets, both of which are associated with brute strength. If he grinds both skills up well, he'll eventually be able to qualify as a War Master.
* TheCameo: He appears in ''[[VideoGame/FireEmblemEngage Engage]]'' as one of Byleth's Bond Rings.
* CasualDangerDialogue: In ''Three Hopes'' when encountered in Scarlet Blaze, he preps himself up to fight whoever approaches him. If Ignatz is the one to do it, Raphael drops his imposing boast and gives a casual greeting to his friend, despite them being on opposite sides.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: Raphael's obsession with training is shown to be paying off, as he has a strength growth of 50%, which is the third highest behind Dimitri and Edelgard. Raphael shares this position with characters like Catherine and Balthus, both of which having crests that helps them be so strong, while Raphael is BadassNormal and got there with the help of nothing but training, which he says he takes over crests any day.
* ChasteHero: He's not really looking for romance. Despite the high number of paired endings Raphael can have with other characters, the only characters he definitively ends up in a relationship with is a Female Byleth, Bernadetta, and Ingrid in non-Azure Moon routes.
* ChargedAttack: His unique ability "Pure Brawn" in ''Three Hopes'' lets him charge up to empower his attacks for a certain duration.
* CoolBigBro: Raphael has a little sister whom he sends gifts to. He admits in his supports with Byleth that he might have tried his luck at being a [[HiredGuns mercenary]] if he didn't have her well-being to look after, though he doesn't at all regret it.
* CommonalityConnection: Raphael connects with Shez in their ''Three Hopes'' C-Support over being orphaned commoners trying to make their way in the world.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: He has golden eyes that match his blond hair.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Raphael lost his parents in an accident not long before the game started, and with the families of two of his classmates, Ignatz and Lorenz, being involved with it in some way. Raphael, however, realizes that he can't always dwell on it, focusing rather on taking care of his little sister and refuses to hold Ignatz and Lorenz accountable for something their parents did.
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: Downplayed, he knows how strong he is so he doesn't overexert himself during training usually, but in his supports with Leonie in ''Three Hopes'', he says to her that he keeps breaking bows in half when he's trying to learn how to use them, even while trying to be gentle when pulling the string. Leonie is shocked upon hearing this.
* DumbBlonde: He has blond hair and isn't exactly skilled in a classroom setting.
* DumbMuscle: {{Downplayed}}. He knows he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's not as hopeless at his studies as he worries and he can grasp tactics well enough. He just prefers to keep things simple and doesn't feel like dwelling on things that don't need to be worried about.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: During the cutscene introducing the houses and students, Raphael munches on a kebab while the rest of his housemates discuss battle strategies.
* FitnessNut: Raphael is very dedicated to training and building his muscles. It does make it come across as that being the only thing he talks about, as noted when Claude introduces him in ''Three Hopes''.
-->'''Claude:''' He's a pretty friendly guy. Though it'd be nice if he talked about something other than muscles.
* {{Foil}}: To Dimitri. Dimitri and Raphael are both strong blonde haired students who both lost their family years before the story began. However, Dimitri is a {{Bishounen}} pre-time skip while Raphael is physically TheBigGuy before and after the time skip. Another is that while Dimitri ends up having SurvivorsGuilt in the aftermath of the Tragedy of Duscur [[spoiler:and said guilt eating him up in all routes until his CharacterDevelopment on the Azure Moon route]], Raphael was able to adjust from the death of his parents and not holding Ignatz or Lorenz' parents accountable for their deaths.
* GentleGiant: While he's physically imposing, he's definitely one of the friendliest students, if not ''the'' friendliest, with a kind word to say to pretty much everyone.
* GoodIsNotSoft: He may be a nice guy, but Raphael still wants to prove his strength in the way of combat, such as in chapter 2 of ''Three Hopes'', when Shez suggests that the Golden Deer students should just charge into the bandit stronghold and take them all out, Raphael is very open to the idea, says he's going to crack them like walnuts and his support points with Shez goes up.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: His default/preferred weapon is his fists, shown by him starting with a pair of gauntlets and having a Boon in the Brawling skill which also gives him most of his Combat Arts.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: He has yellow, tousled hair and is one of the kindest people in the entire continent of Fódlan.
* HealingFactor: His personal ability in ''Three Houses'', Goody Basket, can heal him for 10% his current HP with the activation depending on his luck stat. Unfortunately, his base stat in luck is 6 and he has an average growth in luck, meaning that he won't be getting any use out of it until the endgame, and even there it's a small probability that it'll be activated.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Raphael is fully aware that he's not cut out for brain tasks and would rather just focus on building his brawn as big as he can. Because of this, he doesn't think that he's cut out for the merchant business and wouldn't want to take over the family company after his parents even if they had lived. When out on an expedition in ''Three Hopes'', choosing to counterargument his claim on not being a good merchant results in a bad conversation point.
* HiddenDepths: ''Three Hopes'' reveals that he's very aware of just what he and Maya need to do to keep their family inn afloat, so he reveals that he's been learning how to cook and help with the bookkeeping. For someone who was self-admittedly not the best intellect in school and gave you cooking penalties in ''Three Houses'', that's impressive.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Given his size he can be this with anyone, though it's especially pronounced with the minuscule Lysithea, Bernadetta, Flayn or Hilda.
* InelegantBlubbering: His B-support with Leonie starts with him bawling his eyes out over a thank-you letter he got from Maya after sending her study material from the academy.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: He is well-meaning but rather patronizing towards Lysithea, referring to himself as "big bro Raphael" and insisting on doing everything for her, [[BerserkButton much to her displeasure.]]
* {{Irony}}:
** For a guy obsessed with food, he's a lousy cook -- he's one of the only characters you get penalties for it you choose to cook with him, alongside Flayn.
** He says that he is not cut out for the merchant business, but in ''Three Hopes'', running a street hall is ideal for him.
* JabbaTableManners: He's a messy eater, a trait that Ingrid calls him out on. He becomes neater by the time skip as part of his training to become a knight.
* KnightInShiningArmor: What he aspires to become, since he wants to protect his family. He's well-suited to it in gameplay too, as his boons in Axes and Heavy Armor mean he can easily qualify as an Armored Knight and Fortress Knight, though his bane in Riding makes unlocking Great Knight challenging. [[spoiler:In most of his endings he succeeds in becoming one, though unless he marries Byleth he'll eventually retire as a knight to help manage his family's inn.]]
* LostFoodGrievance: After the timeskip on non-Crimson Flower routes, Raphael gets grievance over not being able to eat as much as he could before the timeskip due to all the food being supposed to be shared equally to every soldier, so after Byleth's army gets more supplies from either Judith or Rodrigue, Raphael is naturally overjoyed.
* ManlyMan: In ''Three Houses'', he has strengths in axes, brawling and heavy armor, making him fit more for classes that require more muscles, but that's something other characters also can achieve. In ''Three Hopes'', however, his manliness goes further than that. His SuperStrength gets more attention brought to it, [[MrFanservice his outfit shows off more of his muscles]], and his Warrior Special has him summoning a boulder just by stomping the ground, picking it up and swinging it at the enemies before crushing it with his bare fists.
-->'''Raphael:''' Did you see that? My muscles always win the day!
* MightyGlacier: Fitting his appearance, Raphael sports incredible growths in HP, Strength, and Defense, but suffers from low Magic, Speed, and Resistance.
* MrFanservice: Raphael's a more rugged example, but he definitely qualifies with his tight-fitting outfit and his absolutely ripped musculature. Not to mention, his default class line is the Brawler, which features the {{Stripperific}} Grappler. His Plegian variant in ''Heroes'' further emphasizes this with his skin-tight outfit straight up ''ripping'' to showcase his bulging muscles.
* MusclesAreMeaningful: Right from the start he's tall and heavily-built. As players grind his levels up, his Strength Defense and HP scores will all prove why he has 'em.
* NiceGuy: He's easily the most aggressively friendly character in the game, and is tied with Mercedes for purest heart. This is acknowledged at the end of his and Ignatz's paralogue, in which he refuses to blame anyone besides the monsters for his parents' death. Byleth has two choices: "Raphael is a nice guy" and "Raphael is a good man," to which Ignatz responds in agreement.
* NonUniformUniform: His boot design is unique and he forgoes a jacket or vest entirely for suspenders, as the dress shirt alone strains on his muscles.
* OnlySaneMan: In a meta sense. Raphael is by far the most well-adjusted of the students.
* ParentalAbandonment: He lost his parents in an accident, but he still tries to remain positive.
* PlatonicLifePartners: Interestingly enough, none of Raphael's Paired Endings with any of the Golden Deer girls ends with a romance. Each one even ends on a note where the respective girl will move in and ''live'' with Raphael and work at his inn. The same occurs with Flayn and Shamir.
* PlayingWithFire: He learns Fire and Bolganone when learning Reason.
* ThePollyanna: Despite losing his parents at a young age under circumstances connected to two of his friends' parents, he's an eternally upbeat and friendly fellow.
* PowerfulButInaccurate: Raphael can learn the Wild Abandon combat art at C+ rank in axes. It lets him deal 10 additional damage and has 30 extra critical hit at the cost of 30 accuracy.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner:
-->"''I got this.''" (Pre-timeskip)\\
"''Leave it to me!''" (Post-timeskip)
* PreMortemOneLiner:
-->"''I'm on a roll!''"\\
"''Time for seconds!''"\\
"''Got out of here!''"\\
"''Ba-boom!''" (Pre-timeskip)\\
"''Sorry about this!''" (Post-timeskip)
* PromotedToParent: Downplayed with his sister, since their grandfather is still around to watch her day-to-day, but since their grandfather is too old to work, Raphael is trying to become a knight to take care of his sister.
* RaisedByGrandparents: Due to his parents' deaths, he and his sister are being looked after by their grandfather.
* RealMenEatMeat: Raphael absolutely adores meat. You'll most likely hear him mention the word at least once a chapter. As expected, one of his favorite gifts to recieve is Smoked Meat. It's also the way he bonds with Felix in ''Three Hopes'', calling them "meat buddies".
* RecurringElement: Raphael is ''Three Houses''' take on the big, tough, slow, and magically vulnerable MightyGlacier of common origin with a humble, down-to-earth attitude first pioneered by [[Characters/FireEmblemShadowDragonAndTheBladeOfLight Draug]], although he utilizes the newly featured Brawler class for it. That said, he still has the proficiencies to excel as an Armored Knight should you push him down that path and his backstory shows him ''trying'' to do so but apparently failing.
* RedBaron: In his S-support, he tells Byleth that the battles he fought in made him famous, and people gave him the nickname "the Beast of Leicester." Though initially embarrassed, he warmed up to it after his sister said it makes him sound tough.
* RightForTheWrongReasons: In ''Three Houses'', he flat-out refuses to show a grudge towards Lorenz because Lorenz's father apparently got his parents killed, defying SinsOfOurFathers. ''Warriors: Three Hopes'' reveals [[spoiler:Lorenz's father was completely innocent of any wrongdoing in that incident. His men were duped by what's implied to be Agarthan double agents.]]
* ScreamingWarrior: In his supports with Flayn, he thinks one way to grow stronger is to be practicing one's battle cry, as that way, one will feel more powerful. Flayn's voice is, frankly, clearly not as cut out for it as Raphael's voice is.
* SecretAIMoves: Downplayed, but if not recruited before the Chapter 7 mock battle, he knows Tomebreaker, a mastery skill of the Grappler class, when he is a Brawler at this stage.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The tough, protective manly man to Ignatz's shy, artistic sensitive guy.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: He mentions during Tea Parties that his grandfather used to be strong and muscular like Raphael is.
* SiblingYinYang: Discussed; he's a big strong BookDumb guy, while his sister is more intelligent and artistic like Ignatz. [[spoiler:Which is why she falls for Ignatz who is similar to her in Raphael and Ignatz' paired ending.]]
* SimpleMindedWisdom:
** Despite his less-than-impressive smarts, he tends to provide good down-to-earth advice in his various Supports, such as when he tells Lorenz about how being able to sit and share meals with others helps improve one's ability to socially connect. While not very impressed by Raphael's BigEater tendencies, Lorenz does admit to himself Raphael has a point.
** In Chapter 8's climax at Remire Village in ''Three Houses'', Raphael suggests that the best way to deal with the [[spoiler: rampaging brainwashed villagers]] is to hit them hard enough to knock them out, but not hard enough to kill them.
** In Chapter 3 of Golden Wildfire in ''Three Hopes'', he figures out that Almyra is only invading because none of the Empire, Kingdom, or the Church are able to provide the Alliance with additional soldiers to defend Fodlan's Locket.
** In ''Three Hopes'', he's implied to figure out [[spoiler:Claude's connection to Almyra]] because he notes that [[spoiler:Claude and Nader]] have similar ideas regarding partying after a battle.
* SinsOfOurFathers: Defied. He refuses to hold Ignatz and Lorenz accountable for his parents' death despite the fact that Ignatz's parents could have died in their place and Lorenz's father may have had them flat-out murdered. He even directly says in ''Three Hopes'' that "kids aren't responsible for what their parents do."
* SkewedPriorities: Whenever there are signs that Garreg Mach might being under attack from the inside, Raphael's first instinct is to be concerned about the food, like thinking assasins from the Western Church would raid the pantry or that the dining hall lady could be an impostor [[spoiler:like Tomas]] in ''Three Hopes''.
* SorryThatImDying: If Raphael falls in Classic mode, he apologizes to his sister for not being able to take care of her.
* StealthHiBye: In his supports with Shamir, he asks her how she's so hard to spot, and she explains a technique that makes her harder to detect on the battlefield. Raphael is eager to learn this technique, but Shamir has doubts... at least, until ''Raphael walks up behind her without her noticing and scares the hell out of her''. As Raphael is the loudest and one of the largest students, learning stealth is pretty damn impressive.
* SuperStrength: His supports with Marianne in ''Three Hopes'' shows he can lift a horse effortlessly, not to mention he crushes the boulder he uses in his unique Warrior Special (which he tore out of the ground in the first place) with his bare hands after battering enemies with it. Even more impressive considering Raphael achieved that strength through training and not some innate advantage like a Crest.
* SupremeChef: In ''Three Hopes'', he reveals that one of his hobbies is learning how to cook delicious food so as to better help Maya and his grandfather at their family inn. Sure enough, in more than one support, he shows it off, such as in his C-support with Claude, where he cooks up a roast that Claude notes "looks incredible."
* WalkingTheEarth: In his paired ending with Shamir, Raphael walks away from his duties as Knight to becomes partners with Shamir [[JustLikeRobinHood fighting bandits]]. In every other ending, Raphael will settle down as either a Knight or Merchant.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: He's good friends with Ignatz at the beginning of the game, but it's possible for them to end up on opposite sides of a war should you recruit him to [[spoiler:the Black Eagles and side with Edelgard]].
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Makes no appearance, and is not even mentioned, on the Crimson Flower route if not recruited. However, his dialogue if he ''is'' recruited has him note that, while he lived on Alliance lands, that doesn't mean he was necessary loyal or felt indebted to the nobility, hinting he may have decided to [[OptOut avoid the war entirely]] for the sake of his sister and having no real stake in the fighting. [[note]]That said, he fights alongside Claude despite this in other routes, even asking Claude to protect the Alliance and his sister for him should he fall showing he is willing to fight for Claude despite these factors; the most likely explanation for this discrepancy is that Edelgard's far less extremist actions on Crimson Flower made him decide that fighting her wasn't worth the bother.[[/note]]
* WithCatlikeTread:
** Petra says to him in their C support in ''Three Hopes'' that the reason Raphael is not a good hunter is because he is hunting with the subtleness of a bear. So he then tries a more wolf-like approach to no avail, but Petra uses his way of accidentally scaring away the animals to easily kill them herself.
** In a straighter example, Shamir tells Raphael how she avoids notice on the battlefield, but doubts Raphael's ability to pull it off. He does, sneaking up on Shamir in the process, proving he could actually learn to hunt well if taught in a way that he can understand.
* YouKilledMyFather: [[DefiedTrope Defied.]] Despite the implications in the Death Toll paralogue that Lorenz's father could be responsible for his parents' deaths, he refuses to consider that, since he and Lorenz don't really know what happened, and as far as he knows monsters killed his parents and he has no reason to hate or blame anyone when he has his sister to care for. It doesn't even come up in his supports with Lorenz at all. [[spoiler:''Three Hopes'' vindicates this as Count Gloucester was indeed not responsible for the incident.]]
* YouRemindMeOfX: Raphael says in his B support with Lysithea that the latter reminds him of his little sister Maya, because they are both stubborn and intelligent. Raphael channeling an imitation of his sister to Lysithea when she is being stubborn leads her to believe he was mimicking her, but admits it was pretty spot on.
-->'''Raphael:''' ''[mimicking Maya/Lysithea]'' "I'm so tough! I'm gonna stand my ground! I don't need help from anyone! And when things don't go my way, I'm gonna act all sad and moody."
* YoungerThanTheyLook: Despite his muscular physique and rugged appearance befitting a grown man, Raphael is only 18 years old at the start of the game.

->''"I'm Captain Jeralt's first and best apprentice. I can beat anyone, Professor. Even you, if I have to. It may only have been for a short time, but I learned from the absolute best."''

The daughter of a hunter, hailing from a village called Sauin within the Alliance. To become a mercenary and make money, she borrowed money from her village to enroll in the Officers Academy. To repay her gratitude and debt to her fellow villagers, she trains hard every day and lives modestly. She calls Jeralt her master, as he inspired her to be a mercenary, and calls herself his top disciple.\\\

Her personal ability, ''Rivalry'', increases her damage and reduces her damage taken when adjacent to a male ally.
----
* ActionInitiative: She learns Point-Blank Volley at A Bows, which allows her two consecutive attacks with any bow weapon for the cost of some weapon durability, even if she was unable to double before. The only other playable character that can learn this is Cyril.
* TheAlcoholic: She inherits this trait from Jeralt [[spoiler:when she takes over as the leader of Jeralt's mercenaries]] in her ending with Alois. Some other paired endings, [[spoiler:like Raphael's and Felix's on Azure Moon, also mention this. Felix even exploits it, using her tendency to rack up huge bar tabs to make sure she stays nearby so he can hire her when he needs to.]]
* AmbiguouslyBi: Leonie only has explicitly romantic endings with men but in the Japanese version of ''Three Houses'' her B-level support conversation with Lysithea has Leonie wonder if she should marry her someday.
-->'''Lysithea (in the Japanese version):''' I just thought you'd be a good husband. Yes, you're my ideal husband!
-->'''Leonie:''' Huh...!?
-->'''Lysithea:''' Oh, and this is sincere. I don't give false compliments.
-->'''Leonie:''' A young woman saying... I see... Maybe I should make you my wife someday...
* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: Downplayed. In her C-support with Sylvain, she is outright offended that he doesn't try to flirt with her, due to him seeing her as a tomboy and unlike how he sees girls he likes. His (awkward) attempts to do so once prompted also make her mad.
* BadassNormal: She doesn't have a Crest and she's a MagicallyIneptFighter, and she kicks no less ass for it.
* BoyishShortHair: Sports the shortest hair out of most of the women, until the timeskip, that is, and also isn't really into most feminine things.
* ButtMonkey: Quite a few of her endings are comical descriptions of her hard life after the game, mostly brought on by her own actions (usually involving booze).
* CelibateHero: She's disinterested in romance, although it's subverted if she gets a paired ending that ends in marriage.
-->'''Leonie''': ''[during a tea party post-timeskip]'' People always seem to be talking about romance, but... honestly, I'm just not interested in that stuff.
* CombatPragmatist: Having been trained by a mercenary makes her see victory before honor. In her B support with Felix, they go for a duel agreed on in their C-support... except she prepares a pit trap for Felix and he ends up falling for it, thus making her the winner.
* CompetitionFreak: Leonie often engages in competition to prove herself, including calling herself Jeralt's first and best apprentice even though - as pointed out by Shez in ''Three Hopes'' - she wasn't Jeralt's first apprentice; ''Alois'' was (as far as everyone in-universe knows, at least). Her special ability "Rivalry" also adds to this.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: She has orange hair and orange eyes.
* DebtDetester: One of her dislikes is debt. In her supports with Alois, he eventually bestows upon her an inheritance from Jeralt: [[spoiler:the obligation to pay back all of Jeralt's unpaid bar tabs from all across Fódlan. Needless to say, she is ''livid''. Hilariously enough, she becomes an alcoholic with infamous bar tab problems that are so bad her debts become legends in many endings. If she doesn't marry into money, she usually ends up spending her life in debt-ridden poverty because she can't keep away from the bottle.]]
* DeclarationOfProtection: At some point during the timeskip, she makes it clear she will give her life toward Byleth because [[spoiler:that is what Jeralt would want. Should she be recruited to the Black Eagles or Blue Lions, she effectively cites this as her reason for why she follows Byleth.]]
* EtTuBrute: If she's not recruited on the Crimson Flower route, [[spoiler:she lashes out at Byleth for betraying Jeralt because Edelgard was partially responsible for his death.]] She's also the only non-recruited student who [[spoiler:has a unique battle quote for Black Eagles students, describing them as "Captain Jeralt's enemies," suggesting that she takes their decision to side with Edelgard personally; note that Bernadetta is the only Black Eagle Leonie can support with, and it caps at B.]]
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: A tea-time conversation has Leonie mention how she gets confessions from girls sometimes.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: In her paired ending with Lorenz, it is said that while their marriage came as a shock to the general public, those who knew the pair personally could tell that Lorenz and Leonie's marriage was inevitable, having witnessed the strength of the bond they shared first hand during the war.
* FallenOnHardTimesJob: In her non-Azure Moon paired endings with Felix, [[spoiler:after mercenary work dries up in the post-war Fódlan, the two become street performers to make ends meet.]] She can end up in these in various other endings as well due to her alcohol problem.
* FeminineWomenCanCook: {{Inverted| trope}}, as she's the least feminine woman in the game, but her supports with Seteth show she's one of the better (if simple) chefs.
* FieryRedhead: Has bright orange hair and is much more hot tempered and aggressive than the other members of her house.
* FlowerMotif: Not prominent, but Sylvain compares her to a sunflower in their B-support ("statuesque... blooming proud and tall in the open air"). Her ''Heroes'' summer variant even has sunflowers on her bow.
* GoodLuckCharm: She wears a wooden charm Jeralt made for her when she was a child. She never goes anywhere without it, but she sometimes takes it off when she trains so she doesn't get her sweat all over it.
* GuideDangIt:
** Leonie is one of the few characters whose support line with Byleth in ''Three Houses'' is on a certain restricted time-table. You have to get her C-support before [[spoiler:Jeralt dies]]; if you try to get her C-support ''after'' this event, you're shit out of luck.
** Recruiting Leonie on the Scarlet Blaze path of ''Three Hopes'' has similarly obtuse requirements, and the hardest in a single playthrough of the game [[spoiler:because recruiting her requires the player has already recruited the other hardest recruits, Jeralt and Byleth, two chapters earlier. On top of that, she also has to be escorted to safety and survive poisoning throughout the battle. Finally, the person who heals her (Hanneman) also has to be kept safe until this point. Considering he's an NPC ally, his survival is also not entirely within the player's control.]]
* HeroWorshipper: She is inspired by Jeralt, and calls herself his top disciple. She forms a rivalry with Byleth because she feels they don't properly appreciate Jeralt as a father. [[spoiler:As such, she does not take it well when Jeralt dies.]]
* HiddenBuxom: She's completely covered up before the timeskip, and doesn't dress provocatively after the timeskip beyond showing a bit of cleavage, but internal game data reveals she's actually quite busty - ending up as well-endowed as Dorothea pre-timeskip after five years have passed. Her bikini alt in ''Fire Emblem Heroes'' also makes it apparent her chest is quite sizeable even pre-timeskip. Since she aspires to be a mercenary she might deliberately ignore or downplay her assets, though a support with Sylvain still makes it clear she doesn't like people outright acting as though she's unfeminine.
* HiredGuns: She looks up to Jeralt and intends on becoming a mercenary as well. In all of her possible endings she [[spoiler:does become a mercenary as she aspired to. Whether or not it goes well depends on the route and pairing.]]
* HorseArcher: She has proficiencies in lances, bows, and riding, making her ideal for the Bow Knight class.
* HotForPreacher: It is possible for her to end up in a romantic relationship with Seteth, who is Archbishop Rhea's NumberTwo.
* HunterTrapper: Leonie comes from a village of them and still likes to hunt at the monastery to keep her skills sharp.
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** She is rude towards Byleth because she feels Byleth doesn't respect and appreciate Jeralt, her mentor, enough, ignoring the fact that ''she'' is often very disrespectful to her own teacher and ''Jeralt's child'', at that. She also gets very annoyed when people underestimate her, but she often attributes Byleth's abilities to Jeralt's teachings and it takes a lot of prodding for her to admit Byleth is powerful on their own.
** She gets annoyed when [[HandsomeLech Sylvain]] doesn't bother flirting with her, but when he does she immediately complains about it and tells him to knock it off. Sylvain even lampshades this by commenting [[MortonsFork there's no pleasing Leonie]].
* IllKillYou: If you have her fight [[spoiler:Kronya]], she says this word for word at them, ''very'' much wanting to [[spoiler:avenge Jeralt's death]].
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Due to her respect and adoration for Jeralt, she can be very blunt and harsh when dealing with the subject of Jeralt, especially when the person doesn't agree with some of the positive traits she sees in him. Her C and B-support with Byleth in particular have her openly hostile to them because despite being the child of Jeralt, they know nothing about him, even though Byleth was LockedOutOfTheLoop.
* JackOfAllStats: Leonie's stats are quite balanced; she comes in with very good bases, and sports solid growths in Strength and Defense alongside strong growths in Dexterity and Speed. Her only real weak point is her Resistance.
* JackOfAllTrades: She has three weapon proficiencies and no particular weaknesses when handling weapons, and is a JackOfAllStats to boot. Discussed in their B-Support with Shez in ''Three Hopes'', who tells Leonie that her being able to adapt to almost any situation would make her a highly valued mercenary, as opposed to other mercenaries being under CripplingOverspecialization.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Her supports with Byleth have her coming off as extremely abrasive, in particular her B-support, where she accuses Byleth of not appreciating Jeralt as a father [[spoiler:(even worse, this conversation is locked until after Jeralt's death and can sometimes occur ''immediately'' after.)]] She can also be brash and snippy with other people, but at the end of the day, Leonie's hard-working, noble, and always there for her friends.
* JerkassBall: Leonie's tunnel-vision reverence of Jeralt tends to be mostly limited to her supports with Byleth and to a lesser degree Alois. Outside of her one-sided antagonism towards Byleth, and losing her temper with Marianne in their C support, she's actually fairly laidback and kind to the rest of the characters she supports with.
* JerkassRealization:
** In her A-Support with Byleth, she regrets her behavior towards them and gives a DeclarationOfProtection.
** In her B support with Marianne, she apologises for being a jerk in their C support.
* TheLadette: Several of her supports reveal she's not really into shopping or keeping up with her appearances outside of basic hygiene due to her frugal nature. She makes her own soap out of leftover oil rather than buy scented soap and she often keeps old clothes so she can sew up her damaged clothes rather than buy new ones. In addition, most of Leonie's animations are actually shared with male characters.
* LegacyCharacter: In her solo ending, she [[spoiler:joins Jeralt's mercenary band and inherits his title as the Blade Breaker]].
* MagicallyIneptFighter: She has strong physical bases and growths all around, but her magical growths are all terrible, relegating her into the role of a physical fighter.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: The masculine girl to Lorenz's feminine boy. Leonie's quite brash and focused on becoming a mercenary, while Lorenz is very refined and stylish.
* MentorArchetype: While she has had Jeralt as one since her childhood, Leonie's supports with Shez in ''Three Hopes'' has the latter also act as one to her, as Leonie is impressed by their skill as a mercenary even before enrolling into the academy, with Shez offering all sorts of advice to her throughout the game.
-->'''Shez:''' Well, if you ever want help from an old pro, just say the word.\\
'''Leonie:''' Thanks. I'm glad to have a role model I can count on.
* MutuallyExclusivePartyMembers:
** [[InvertedTrope Inverted]] example in Scarlet Blaze. [[spoiler:Due to Leonie's loyalty to Jeralt, it's possible to recruit her on that route ''only'' if Jeralt was spared and recruited back in Chapter 10, as trying to activate the strategy meant for it regardless will always lead to failure.]]
** Played straight in Azure Gleam of ''Three Hopes'', as she is not among the Golden Deer members chosen by Claude to aid Dimitri's army, thus she cannot fight alongside [[spoiler:Dimitri, Dedue, Sylvain, Felix, Ingrid, Annette, Rodrigue, Seteth, Flayn or Catherine.]]
* NayTheist: Should Leonie be recruited in the Crimson Flower route [[spoiler:she shows absolutely no qualms in having to fight the Church because she was never particularly devout, only joining the Officers Academy in the first place to train towards her dream of becoming a mercenary. She also notes that she picked up on Jeralt not trusting Rhea.]]
* NonUniformUniform: She has a jacket tied around her waist, a knee pad, archery gloves, and what seems to be a compression sleeve.
* PennyAmongDiamonds: While Leonie is not the only commoner in the Golden Deer house, her financial status is stated to be much poorer than Ignatz and Raphael, who came from merchant families. In the opening of her paralogue with Linhardt, she mentions how she is working to pay back the nobles who helped her gain a spot in the Officer's academy and her village who helped pitch in the money to send her there. She also would rather save up as much as she can than to use her money to get something new, such as sewing up her bag rather than buying a new one.
* PlatonicLifePartners: Leonie's only explicitly romantic endings are with a Male Byleth, Claude, Lorenz, and Seteth. Her endings with Ignatz, Felix, and Shamir all end with the duo either working or traveling together. Her ending with Raphael sees Leonie retire from being a mercenary and move in with him, but the nature of their relationship is left vague.
* PlayingWithFire: She learns all Fire magic in Reason: Fire, Bolganone, and Ragnarok.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner:
-->"''Let's get to it.''" (Pre-timeskip)\\
"''My orders?''" (Post-timeskip)
* PreMortemOneLiner:
-->"''Pure grit!''"\\
"''That's the spirit!''"\\
"''I'll keep it simple!''" (Pre-timeskip)\\
"''Time to pay!''" (Pre-timeskip)\\
"''I will destroy you!''" (Post-timeskip)\\
"''I'll make you proud, Jeralt!''" (Post-timeskip)
* RagsToRoyalty: Many commoner characters can have paired endings with the house lords or Byleth, but Leonie, hailing from a village and always frugal, takes a large leap if paired with them. With Claude, their epilogue states that [[spoiler:she left Sauin Village to pay a debt and mysteriously vanished. Years later, the king of Almyra paid a visit, and the villagers were dumbfounded to see Leonie had married Claude and was now Almyra's queen]].
* RevengeBeforeReason: Downplayed but in the Scarlet Blaze route of ''Three Hopes'', [[spoiler:should you kill Jeralt, [[EnemyMine she will still accept the Empire's help in quelling the unrest in Hrym]], but also says that she would rather die than accept help from his murderers. This is not hyperbole as she is poisoned later in the chapter and refuses Shez's request to fall back and be healed by the Empire, leading to her death.]]
* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler:Like Ignatz, she's among the first non-recruited students faced on the Crimson Flower unit. Since she attacks the player's army's flank with mounted units, it can be even harder to avoid killing her than with Ignatz.]]
* SecretAIMoves: As an enemy unit, she can know Defiant Strength, a skill that she can never obtain as a playable unit due to it being the mastery skill of the Hero, a male-only class.
* ShaggyDogStory: Leonie had to go through a lot of hardships to enroll in the Officers Academy to help her become a greater mercenary. Everyone in her village had to donate so she could pay the nobles of the Alliance for a recommendation as well as the tuition fee. In ''Three Hopes'', she went through all of this, only for the Officers Academy to shut down a few months through the school year because of all the conflicts that are happening in the three nations of Fódlan. While the church did refund her tuition fee, Leonie was still left in debt from the recommendation money.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: When Bernadetta notices a tear on Leonie's sleeve in their C-support and offers to patch it, Leonie has no problem taking her shirt off in front of Bernie in a semi-public area (the greenhouse).
* SorryThatImDying: If Leonie falls in Classic mode, she apologizes to Jeralt for being unable to keep her promise.
* SpamAttack: Her unique ability "Careful Study" in ''Three Hopes'' allows her to chain up to four regular attack strings consecutively, increasing the attack speed, range, and damage for every string that is chained.
* TerribleArtist:
** Her attempt at drawing a spider is so ridiculous that [[TheStoic Shamir]] can't help but burst out laughing at it.
--->'''Shamir''': Do you know how many legs a spider has? Or what its body looks like? Or even seen one at all?
** Leonie's drawing skills carry into her epilogue if she gets a paired ending with Shamir. [[spoiler:The text says that their company became the most famous mercenary group in Fódlan, using a flag that "bore the image of a spider, and...another vaguely arachnid creature."]]
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: She's the practical, down-to-earth tomboy to Hilda's airheaded and fashion-conscious girly girl.
* TomboyAngst: Downplayed. Leonie generally doesn't have any issues with being a tomboy, but forgetting she is a girl still irritates her, and Sylvain not even trying to flirt with her pisses her off.
* UnkemptBeauty: Hilda notes in ''Three Hopes'' that Leonie looks quite cute, and could look even more attractive if she put in a little more effort into her appearance. Leonie is ''genuinely'' surprised that Hilda actually considers her cute.
* UnknownRival: Leonie considers Byleth her rival, since she's proud to call herself Jeralt's apprentice and feels that her professor doesn't appreciate him enough. However, Byleth mostly ignores this rivalry, hardly acknowledging there's one in the first place.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Lorenz, especially during the beginning of their support chain. Despite both readily seeing each other as friends, he tends to bristle at her pushing him into physical labor and she initially sees him as a pompous noble. As their chain progresses, both develop mutual respect and understanding of each other, all but dropping the vitriolic part and seeing the value in supporting one another. It's rather telling that their paired ending [[spoiler:acknowledges their marriage was "inevitable due to the strength of the bond they had forged in the war"]].
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: In ''Three Hopes'', she only appears once in Azure Gleam during a cutscene; unlike her fellow Deer who feature in varying degrees, Leonie isn't seen again [[spoiler:even after the Kingdom and the Alliance formally ally with each other]].
* WorkOffTheDebt: In Leonie's paired ending with Raphael, [[spoiler:because she sends most of her money to her village, she has unpaid bar tabs across Fódlan. She finds the inn where Raphael's working, the only one that trusts her enough to open a new tab. Leonie accrues such a large debt there that she has to work for Raphael to pay it off, and by the time the debt's paid, she's moved in with him.]]
