If Azura attacks Sakura, Azura lampshades this, asking when Sakura learned to fight, and Sakura explains she decided to become strong enough to protect the ones she loves.

Her supports with Sakura reveal that, before Corrin was abducted by Nohr, Hinoka was a lot like Sakura herself — shy, girlish and more outwardly expressive, with Ryoma's supports with Corrin further revealing Hinoka was even a crybaby. When her father was killed and Corrin taken by Nohr, it devastated Hinoka and made her very distant, rebellious and violent. She got better, but underwent a radical personality shift and began training to be a warrior who could protect their remaining family — and rescue the one she lost.

She never saw herself as queen material, but since everyone ahead of her for the title of heir apparent is ''dead'', and the only other person who can realistically take the throne is, well, ''[[ShrinkingViolet Sakura]]'', she's in no position to refuse. Corrin and Camilla reassure her and tell her that she will be a great queen.]]

* SamaritanSyndrome: Has shades of this at times, being driven by an overwhelming urge to protect or save everyone — and treating every instance with a refusal to let anyone die on her watch. [[spoiler:One notable example is her supports with Azama; a young soldier is grievously wounded and she forces Azama to try to save him even though it's already too late, refusing to give up on anyone so long as they're still alive — just like she never gave up on Corrin. Leo's Supports hammer it home further, noting that she's among the first into battle, as if she's trying to do all the fighting — and protecting — for everyone else herself.]]

* BecomingTheMask: [[spoiler:Played with in ''Conquest''; as he reveals in Chapter 23 and post-mortem in Chapter 28/the endgame, all his abusive words and mistrust of Corrin was masking how he desperately wanted to acknowledge them as his sibling, but was too scared of rejection or betrayal to be honest with them. If/when they do in fact betray Hoshido and return to Nohr, his anger and desire for revenge likewise become a mask for his heartbreak at feeling they'd spurned him and made Mikoto's sacrifice worthless — and [[MoreThanMindControl thanks to Anankos]], those feelings gradually overtake or outright override his true ones. Come the endgame, and this persona of the avenging crusader is all that remains of his mind, Anankos having [[CameBackWrong reanimated his corpse]] with [[ThePowerOfHate his hatred of Nohr as the fuel]]]].

* CharacterDevelopment: In ''Birthright'', at the end of Chapter 10, he's horrified to realize that [[spoiler:he attacked his allies while under DemonicPossession]], and Azura has to calm him down. At the start of Chapter 24, [[spoiler:after he's released from Iago's control of him]], he composes himself almost immediately and focuses on the battle.

* DisproportionateRetribution: In ''Conquest,'' he shoots Elise with his Fujin Yumi just for speaking up for Corrin in Cheve.

* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler:Though it was definitely influenced by Anankos, out of despair and anger from being defeated yet again by Corrin, Takumi throws himself off the fortress they are on. Even though his Anankos possessed body reappears later as the final boss of ''Conquest'', Takumi himself is dead and his spirit even asks you to put down his body.]]

* {{Flanderization}}: He gradually undergoes this during ''Conquest'', and it's later revealed to be a vicious [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstruction]]. As the war goes on, Takumi's hatred for Nohr escalates and he becomes more and more obsessed with getting revenge on Corrin. Azura even notes that Takumi was never this hateful, even before the events of the war. While Mikoto was a beloved queen to the people of Hoshido, Arete was despised by her kingdom. Mikoto also sacrificed herself to protect Corrin while Arete was said to have sacrificed herself to protect the good in Nohr. Mikoto also dies much later on than Arete, in contrast to Sumeragi dying earlier than King Garon (or so it seems).

* GirlsAreReallyScaredOfHorrorMovies: As evidenced by their supports, Sakura is ''terrified'' of the horror stories that Azura tells her.

* SenselessSacrifice: On the ''Conquest'' route, she heroically sacrifices herself to protect Corrin from their own sword exploding. Corrin repays her by defecting permanently to Nohr and leading Garon's armies in conquest of her country, [[spoiler:getting her two stepsons killed]].
