His skills and drive land him at the prestigious boarding school Kings Row where he deals with being the odd man out while working daily to be a great fencer and to best his rival/friend, Seiji.

Seiji is Nicholas's reluctant rival and deuteragonist of ''Fence''. Seiji is an exceptionally skilled fencer and athlete who trains consistently to be the best. He has an unfriendly, icy disposition, and only people that can seem to crack his facade are Nicholas and Jesse Coste, the son of Robert Coste and Seiji's former friend and rival. Seiji accepts no weakness and strives to one day beat Jesse in a match, to avenge his loss to him several years ago.

Harvard knows when to have fun, but otherwise allows for no distractions at Kings Row, and sometimes that means putting others first before his needs, such as his best friend Aiden.
