The Magus of Flowers offers his aid to keep the party going through the longest and most challenging battles. His first skill, Dreamlike Charisma A, buffs the party's Attack while also charging their NP gauge by 20%. His second skill, Illusion A, grants the party one turn of Invincibility while also boosting their critical star generation for a turn, and decreasing all enemies' critical chance. His third skill, Hero Creation EX, greatly buffs a selected ally's Buster performance and Max HP for 3 turns, as well as granting them a massive critical damage buff for a single turn. His Noble Phantasm, Garden of Avalon, grants the party an HP regeneration buff, a critical star generation buff, and a 5% NP gauge charge buff, all for 5 turns.\\\

* TheUnseen: He was mentioned as far back as the original ''Fate Stay Night'' visual novel, which had Altria describe his personality (immature, clumsy, freely enjoying his pastimes and full of love) and the misfortune he caused her in life. However, despite being spoken about at length, he wasn’t actually seen onscreen until the Anime adaptation which gave him a generic mage appearance. Merlin was finally given an official, unique design upon his reveal in the light novel ''Garden Of Avalon'' as a major character.

And all this while he isn't much good at incantations and prefers to just hit things.

* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: For the longest time, Merlin was the story's Ur-Example for TheArchmage, capable of rivalling the Grand Caster Solomon to the point that [[spoiler:the World gave his Grand Caster seat to Merlin despite him having no love for humanity]]. It wasn't until late in ''Cosmos in the Lostbelt'' that we were introduced to Lostbelt Morgan, a magus so great and terrible that she not only fought what were basically the laws of the world itself, she had a clear shot at ''winning''. Merlin tellingly makes himself scarce for most of that Lostbelt and doesn't even think of messing with Morgan until she's been rendered into a less scary Servant form.
