* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Almost all of her potential suitors who serve as romantic false leads are unlikable jerks.

to:

* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Played with. Almost all of her potential suitors who serve as romantic false leads are unlikable jerks.jerks but this mostly happens because she's a HorribleJudgeOfCharacter. When she realizes that they are jerks, she loses interest in them. She also turns down the advances of bad boys and bullies several times (like Willie or Weasel).

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: She wasn't supposed to be the "popular girl" in the first season, in fact there's one episode where she is sad because no one asked her to a school dance. Then Steve becomes the show's BreakoutCharacter with Laura as the object of his affections and the rest is history. To give Steve competition to win her heart, Laura suddenly becomes the most popular girl in her school, with boys fighting over her and hitting on her in every episode and considered a paragon of beauty by everyone.

* HormoneAddledTeenager: She has a lot of boyfriends. boyfriends, and then there's the way she fawns over Stefan (Steve's SexierAlterEgo).

* LookingForLoveInAllTheWrongPlaces: Until the last season, she has a thing for handsome and popular boys who, most of the time, turn out to be bad for her or bad people in general (and many of them are also bullies to Steve).

* SingleGirlSeeksMostPopularGuy: Pretty much applies to all the guys she likes throughout the show, many, many times. However she's the most popular girl herself, so all of them will like her back instantly.

* TheCheerleader: Played with. Like Laura, she was one in high school, and while Max is generally a good girl, she's definitely not as smart as Laura.

* HypocriticalHumor: In the last season she makes fun of Laura when the latter starts liking Steve as a potential love interest. This is coming from the girl who has dated Waldo for many years.
* LookingForLoveInAllTheWrongPlaces: Like Laura, she's a HorribleJudgeOfCharacter when it comes to choosing boys to date. They usually turn out to be opportunistic or unfaithful. It's the reason why she ends up accepting Waldo so easily, despite his stupidity.

* SatelliteCharacter: To Laura and Waldo.

to:

* SatelliteCharacter: To Laura Most of her character revolves around the fact that she's Laura's friend and Waldo.rarely has significant interaction with anyone else, Waldo included.

* TeenGenius

to:

* TeenGenius TeenGenius: The reason why she starts liking Steve is because she's an intellectual herself and is implied to be almost as smart as him. She also proves to be an EvilGenius in the last season, going so far as to install a special device in Steve's eyeglasses that allows her to track his every move.

Added DiffLines:

* EasilyForgiven: In a season 2 episode he was involved in a cruel prank that almost killed Steve and was even arrested for it. Starting in season 3, Steve and the rest of the cast seem to have forgotten about it and they all think of Waldo as a nice (if stupid) person. His transition from enemy to friend was made without explanation.

Added DiffLines:

* AdvertisedExtra: As a member of the main family, she's credited as a main character in the first four seasons, but she's usually used as a backgroud character who is lucky if she gets a line in nearly every episode. In her final season (before her unexplained disappearance), she doesn't even appear in most episodes, despite still being in the opening credits.

* DoggedNiceGuy: Towards Laura. Steve invokes it at times (to questionable effect) when point out Laura uncharacteristically treating him like a human being.

to:

* ExtravertedNerd: Former trope namer. Despite the thick glasses, nasal voice, quirky hobbies e.g., he loves polka music and interesting wardrobe, Urkel would say he's a smooth, hip ladies man. He is incredibly upbeat, though, and wouldn't know embarrassment if it bit him...for better or worse.

Added DiffLines:

* UnwantedAssistance: One of the triggers for the PhraseCatcher above is Steve trying (and failing) to help the Winslows with a project despite their protests.
