* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: He's the strongest demon ever created by Zeref, and he leads a guild made almost entirely of demons Zeref created.
* BlindObedience: He wants to wipe out all of humanity because he thinks Zeref would approve.

* ExcaliburInTheRust: The book containing him is visibly worn and covered in burns and tears.
* InsistentTerminology: Every character in the know about what went down between E.N.D. and Igneel has been quite insistent that Igneel couldn't kill him.
* IWillFindYou: Zeref states to Natsu that Tartaros has never actually met their creator, and that E.N.D. himself has been trying to find Zeref for quite some time. However, Zeref also indicates that only he or Natsu will actually get to find Zeref in person, not both.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: We don't even need to know what "E.N.D." stands for.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: Kind of; the reason it hasn't made any kind of appearance yet is because, apparently, he hasn't been summoned from his book in quite awhile. Mard Geer has been leading Tartaros in his stead.
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: He's said to be the most powerful demon Zeref ever created.
* PlayingWithFire: According to Silver, E.N.D. is a flame demon.
* SealedEvilInACan: He's trapped inside his Book of Zeref until enough "curse power" can be gathered to resurrect him. According to Mard Geer, there's also too much regular magical power in the world to bring him back; the Face Project is meant to remove that part of the problem.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Zeref, to the point where he's willing to wipe out humanity for no other reason than because he thinks it's what Zeref wants.

* Didn'tSeeThatComing: For all his planning, there are a number of things he never anticipated, such as Lucy escaping his Alegria curse (a one-in-a-billion chance, as he puts it) and, to his even greater astonishment, Igneel and Acnologia returning and duking it out over E.N.D.
* Dissonant Serenity: Wears a Psychotic Smirk on his face during his fights with the Celestial King and Sting/Rogue.
* Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: A running theme with Tartaros, as well as with Zeref.

* EvilerThanThou: To put things into perspective, Kyôka had Minerva, a woman who previously tortured her opponents in a fighting tournament, shaking in her boots. This guy is so terrifying that when he tortures Kyôka, she "thanks him for the privilege", and then reacts with horror as he callously wipes out his own Mooks.
* FlashStep: In his fight against the Celestial Spirit King, he dodges absolutely everything thrown at him. Even in a series where Super Speed is a ridiculously common power, him simply side-stepping an attack that leaves a giant fissure, with his Psychotic Smirk still firmly in place, oozes Badass.

* TheHeavy: While E.N.D. is the master of Tartaros, Mard Geer acts as the main villain of the arc while his master is trapped in his book, and aims to revive E.N.D.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: The Celestia King's Galaxia Blade not only frees his victims from Alegria, it turns Allegria against him. However, it only slows him down.
* HumansAreInsects: While his underlings may view humans as little more than playthings, Mard Geer goes the extra mile

** Takes this trope Up to Eleven compared to even the other human-hating members of Tartaros. He brutally punishes Kyôka for her Cold-Blooded Torture of Erza, because that implies to him that she likes humans, even if it's just as playthings. He later admits to himself, though, that he can understand how Kyôka came to like playing with them so much when he starts to feel excited in his fight against the Twin Dragons.

* JustToyingWithThem: He spends the entire fight against Sting and Rogue belittling them as the Puny Humans he sees them as without even moving in for the kill yet, while they are unable to even scratch him. Sting actually calls him out on this, and demands that Mard Geer fight them seriously.
* LackOfEmpathy: Humans are nothing to him. He even tortures Kyôka for what he perceives to be too much empathy for humans because she values them as playthings. He also shows no concern for Tartaros' own soldiers when he transforms Tartaros' fortress into its true form to absorb the heroes, dismissing them as a sacrifice.
* Long-HairedPrettyBoy: Which he keeps in a ponytail.
* MacGuffin Guardian: He never seems to put E.N.D.'s Book of Zeref down. Other immortal characters note that he has been holding that book for eons.
* MeaningfulName: "Mard Geer" is a type of pole arm.
* PsychoticSmirk: Pretty much his default expression.
* RedBaron: "The Underworld King".
* SlouchofVillainy: His debut has him doing this while holding E.N.D's Book of Zeref under his arm.
* SomethingAboutARose: He's a hardcore Bishōnen, and his main weapons are a spam of thorny vines. Bonus points for even referring to Cube as "his garden".
* SpellMyName with an "S": Early translations write his name as "Marde Guille".
* TheStoic: The Spirit King showing up and bringing down Plutogrim didn't even faze him. He even casually greets the Spirit King like an old acquaintance.
* TakenForGranite: Alegria has the Cube imprison everyone in a stone-like material. The Spirit King's Galaxia Blade turns it right back at him, freeing his prisoners and turning him to stone. He breaks out rather quickly.
* Telepathy: Hijacks Warren's to deliver a message to Fairy Tail.

to:

\n* TooManyBelts: On his pants, including on his ankles.
Tsurime Eyes: And they're squinty.
* VillainousBreakdown: Once he realizes Alegria backfired spectacularly because of the Celestial Spirit King, he's... horrified, to say the least. Clearly, this guy is not used to losing.
* WorthyOpponent: Unfailingly polite to the Celestial Spirit King, and even compliments him mid-combat.

Juvia lampshades how weird it is for a demon who knows demon slaying Demon Slaying magic to join a guild full of demons. Keyes suggests he was accepted into the Nine Demon Gates to keep the other demons in line. Subverted when it's revealed that Silver isn't really a demon.
* AnIcePerson: One of the strongest ice magic wielders in the series; his Ice Devil Slayer powers allow him to flash-freeze an entire village in an instant.
* It'sPersonal: He appears to hold a serious grudge against Gray, which seems quite justified when he tells Gray he's actually Deliora, and thus has it out for all of Ur's students. This, however, is a lie to get Gray to kill him.
* KicktheDog: He tells Gray he's Deliora in possession of his dad's body and gloats about wanting to kill him. This is all part of his gambit to get Gray to kill him, and he hates himself for it.
* LightIsNotGood: He is a Devil Slayer, also known as an exorcist wizard, whose magic is designed to vanquish demons. He's also a member of a dark guild made up almost entirely of demons whose stated goal is to Kill All Humans. It later turns out that he was Good All Along, as Silver learned this magic and joined the guild with the noble intention of destroying it from within.
* Luke,I AmYourFather: Double-subverted. Gray immediately recognizes him as his father, Silver Fullbuster, but dismisses the notion because he was killed by Deliora. In response, Silver claims that he is Deliora, who possessed Silver's corpse to use as a human vessel. Not long after Gray defeats him, he clues in that Silver was faking being Deliora.
* NobleDemon: Despite being Tartaros' Token Good Teammate he does seem to be mostly loyal to the dark guild as a whole, as shown when he finally joins in the fight against Fairy Tail. Of course, that could just be because he was finally able to confront Gray.
Subverted. He's actually Deliora, making him just as bad as his allies. Double Subverted as he is lying about being Deliora, though he fully admits that he did some pretty awful things as a member of Tartaros.
* NoSell: Being an Ice Devil Slayer, he can freely eat any form of ice magic and is otherwise hardly affected by it, which lets him smack Gray around without a care in the world. Even when Gray reverses his own ice on him, it only does minor damage despite its anti-demon properties, and that's because he's not a demon.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedtoDefeatYou: He refuses to let any of the other Nine Gates try to fight Gray, grabbing the kid and promptly getting both of them far away from the battlefield everyone else is on.
* PettheDog: After Natsu and Lisanna are subjected to a Shameful Strip and thrown into a cell together, he visits their cell and gives Lisanna a blanket to cover herself with.
* TheReveal: Threefold: He's Silver Fullbuster, Gray's dad. Or rather, he's actually Deliora in possession of his body. Then it's revealed the he really is Gray's dad, or rather his reanimated corpse controlled by Keyes.
* SingleStrokeBattle: Freezes Natsu solid with one wave of his hand.
* SpannerInTheWorks: He let Happy escape after capturing Natsu, leaking the nature of their base, and letting Fairy Tail pinpoint their exact location. He also may have dropped the sword for Natsu to use to escape his cell. Franmalth actually comments on this.
* SurvivorGuilt: His motivation for a covert Roaring Rampage of Revenge against Zeref's demons, up until he realized Gray was alive, resulting in a Heel Realization.
* TokenGoodTeammate: He hunts demons, and when the others all talk about their plan and how the current destruction they've caused is just the start, he's noticeably silent and going by his expression, he's less than thrilled. While he did freeze the Sun Village, he did it because he thought the Eternal Flame was a demon, and actually thanks Natsu for thawing it out.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Kyôka comments on him showing up in his "human form", implying his current, humanoid appearance isn't his true one. It's later subverted; he has no demon form.

\n\n* CombatTentacles: Kind of. While they're actually his limbs, his rubber-like body can sprout more of them from almost any part of his body. And those limbs can sprout even more.
* Cyclops: He usually has one large, glowing eye in the center of his head, usually visible through his armor's face mask.
* FatBastard: His constant obsessing over the quantitative worth of everything from the actions and loyalty of his teammates to the souls he's absorbed make him the perfect embodiment of Greed among the demons.
* HoistbyHisOwnPetard: Absorbing Lucy's celestial spirits backfires immensely when Lucy tries to call them back to the spirit world to save them. Franmalth finds himself being sent to the spirit world along with them, forcing him to release them to free himself. Lucy then bluffs him by pretending that Natsu is also a spirit, which spooks Franmalth into freeing Natsu too.
* TheHyena: He laughs as he wonders how many people Jackal was able to kill at the Magic Council.
* MorallyBankruptBanker: He scolds Tempester for using anti-magic particles, saying they were too expensive to use casually, and even dismisses Doriath for being too expensive to justify his usefulness. Considering he is also the one who cut a deal with Crawford, he's likely the one who manages Tartaros' finances.
* NighInvulnerable: Natsu's attacks just piss him off. He even No Sells his Lightning Flame Dragon's Roar. Turns out it's because they're magic attacks and he can absorb them. Physical attacks, on the other hand...
* NotQuiteDead: He barely survives the destruction of Hell's Core by attaching himself to Happy as a mushroom-like parasite.
* Oh,Crap: His reaction to Natsu busting in through their wall, as well as when Lucy manages to call back her spirits from him through force of will. Getting tricked by Lucy into thinking Natsu is a spirit that he releases his hold on him and Natsu getting around that "Magic Won't Work On Me" detail by smashing him with a rock.
* Overly Long Tongue: And it tends to wag and dangle out of his mouth while he laughs.
* Rubber Man: His limbs can stretch out to grab something at the opposite end of the room. Very helpful, for The Assimilator.
* SpikesofVillainy: Can be seen once he bursts out of his armor.
* SuperpowerLottery: His role as The Assimilator gives him the potential to make him one of the most dangerous enemies yet in the series. To put things into perspective, he's able to absorb an indefinite amount of souls, including celestial spirits, as well as Hades, the Arc Villain of Sirius Island.
* TemptingFate: After being beaten, he boasts of his guild's Resurrective Immortality and goes to pay Hell's Core for a visit... right when Mirajane blows it all sky-high. Fortunately for him, he barely manages to survive.
* TurnsRed: Whipping out his "most powerful soul" draws an Oh, Crap out of Natsu, Lucy, and Happy.
* VillainousBreakdown: While he was never quite composed to begin with, he goes completely berserk when he realizes the Face project failed.
* YourSoulIsMine: He doesn't just absorb others' bodies; he absorbs everything, soul included.

* Absurdly Sharp Blade: His curse involves these, though they're not visible.
* Ax-Crazy: Quite eager to start slaughtering humans. His epithet "Child Slicer" doesn't help, and implies that he was the one who cut up the entire town Gray and Juvia went to. Definitely proves it during his fight with Wendy.
* Blood Knight: Unlike Torafuzar, he states he doesn't care about demon dignity as long as he can fight something.
* Child Hater: He didn't take Wendy seriously at all, even going so far as to refer to her as "midget".
* Cluster F-Bomb: Even more than Jackal. Ezel swears like a sailor in one translation.
* Combat Tentacles: His tentacle-like limbs can be used like this.
* Irony: His epithet in Japanese refers to a demon-slaying sword.
* Karmic Death: His nickname is "Child Slicer" and is the one who activated Face. He's then defeated by Wendy, a child, and dies in the explosion following Face's self-destruction mechanism.
* KicktheDog: He prepares to crush Wendy underneath his Combat Tentacles until he gets the bright idea of wanting to eat Charles after she tries to save Wendy. Bad idea.
* Mr.Exposition: He explains to Wendy how Face worked, including the Ether-nano in the air surrounding it. Unfortunately, for him, Wendy is a Sky Dragon Slayer...
* Multi-ArmedandDangerous: Four arms and seven tentacles used as legs.
* NiceJobFixingIt,Villain: Ezel is responsible for having Wendy go from Tag Along Kid to a full-fledged Dragon Slayer after his attempt to eat Charles, prompting her to eat the air surrounding Face, unlocking her Dragon Force.
* One-Winged Angel: His "Slasher Form" has him gaining bigger fangs, a samuraiesque armor and huge black blades in lieu of his arms. However, it's still not enough to defeat Wendy's Dragon Force.
* Oh,Crap: His reaction to sees that his swords can't cut through Wendy's increasing wind right before she blasts him away with the Dragon Force.
* Shout-Out: His surname and attacks refer to the five greatest Japanese swords: Douji Giri, Onimaru, Juzumaru, Odenta and Mikazuki. Except for Odenta, all others were quoted.
* StormofBlades: His curse involves huge, invisible Absurdly Sharp Blades that seem to extend from his hands.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Aside from his one-frame introduction at the beginning of the arc, he gets only one noteworthy scene... and dies shortly afterward.
* WouldHurtaChild: Lives up to his moniker of "Child Slicer" during his fight with Wendy.
* YouFightLikeaCow: He spends the entire fight against Wendy taunting her, and tries to end it with a Kick the Dog to Charles. Comes back to bite him in the ass, hard.

Added DiffLines:

* AbsoluteCleavage: Just as much as Kyôka.
* Badass: Anyone who can reduce Elfman to Inelegant Blubbering, destroy the Fairy Tail headquarters (and almost succeed in killing off the entire guild if not for Cana), and then fight one of Fairy Tail's best wizards while barely getting scratched herself more than deserves this title.
* BadassBoast:
"In a demon's story... there's no such thing as mercy."
* Badass Bookworm: Enjoys good stories, though she finds the stories written by humans boring.
* TheBerserker: She apparently has no conscious control of her One-Winged Angel form and must use Macro on herself to focus on her target.
* BerserkButton: Do not, in her own words, embarrass her in front of Kyôka.
* ClothingDamage: Her entire Minidress of Power gets ripped in two and becomes little more than Detached Sleeves as a result of going One-Winged Angel. More runes appear on her now-bare chest, just so that it still doesn't show anything.
* Curb-StompBattle: She was already kicking Mirajane's ass. But once Mirajane destroyed the resurrection labs and used her Satan Soul: Sitri form, Sayla whipped out her own One-Winged Angel form... and blew Mirajane's Sitri form away. Ends up on the receiving end when Mirajane puppeteers Elfman (with Seilah's own Curse no less) into taking out Seilah with one blow when Seilah was distracted.
* CuteMonsterGirl: She's the most human looking of the group next to Silver.note
* DarkActionGirl: She's able to give Mirajane one hell of a fight.
* Deal with the Devil: Invoked after Elfman begged her to stop using his body to strangle Lisanna.
"'Beg?' When a human begs something of a demon... that's when he must offer the demon their soul. Are you prepared to sell me your soul?"
* DidNotSeeThatComing: Did not expect Fairy Tail to escape the bomb placed in the guild due to Cana's magic, with the three Exceed carrying the cards of the members towards their base. Her reaction speaks volumes. She gets it again at the tail end of her fight with Mirajane since she's batting Mira around she doesn't realize what Mira's up to before Mira commands Elfman to drop down right on top of her.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: Her Zettai Ryouiki are literally the only thing on her feet, besides nail polish.
* Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Black hair, but close enough.
* EmotionlessGirl: Generally a pretty quiet, reserved character. Until her Berserk Button is pushed...
* EyesDoNotBelongThere: On the palms of her hands in her One-Winged Angel form. Used to perform a Kamehame Hadouken.
* FemmeFatalons: Complete with nail polish. In her One-Winged Angel form, they become sharp enough to slice through flesh.
* FurandLoathing: Part of her Minidress of Power appears to have been made from leopard skin, or something similar.
* HairDecoration: A hairband that runs perpendicular to her horns.
* HeroKiller: Mirajane Strauss is one of the best wizards in Fairy Tail's roster, on par with Erza. Seilah was destroying her while barely taking a scratch, and would have killed her were it not for Elfman's Dynamic Entry, and that was without the use of Macro. Which, by the way, as Elfman eloquently demonstrated, if you get hit with that, you are screwed.
* HoistbyHisOwnPetard: Mirajane uses Seilah's own signature Curse to puppeteer Elfman (which was only possible because Seilah used Macro on him already making this a double example) into striking down Seilah when she was too busy trying to finish off Mirajane.
* HornedHumanoid: Aside from the markings, this is one of the only physical features she has that doesn't look entirely human.
* IHaveYourSister: Her leverage over Elfman, to get him to drop a Fantastic Nuke lacrima in Fairy Tail's guild hall. Somewhat justified, though, in the sense that he no longer has a say in the matter.
* Impossibly-Low Neckline: How the hell does that Minidress of Power stay up?
* Laser-GuidedKarma: Just like Rustyrose, her defeat comes at the hands of someone she previously beat. In this case Elfman and ironically once again through someone taking control of him.
* NightoftheLivingMooks: Played with; she openly admits that corpses are harder for her to control than living People Puppets. As she demonstrates with the corpse of a freshly-slain ex-Magic Councillor, and then with Elfman.
* NecessaryDrawback: When she goes One-Winged Angel she uses all her power in that form, weakening her control over others.
* NoSell: On the giving and receiving end of this. Mirajane can't use "Takeover" on her and she can't use Macro on Mirajane. She resorts to using Macro on herself to go One-Winged Angel. Mirajane was able to use "Takeover" to steal Seilah's Macro Curse, leading to Seilah's defeat.
* Oh,Crap: To say she reacts badly to Cana saving the guild and allowing Fairy Tail to actually counter and attack is an understatement.
* One-Winged Angel: Accessed by using Macro on herself and removing her limiter. Her horns grow twice as large, she gains Blank White Eyes (with Extra Eyes elsewhere on her body, including the palms of her hands, her Minidress of Power splits into Detached Sleeves, and she gains even more runes on her body, including her now bare chest. Her One-Winged Angel form is borderline Eldritch Abomination levels of freaky-looking.
* PeoplePuppets: By manipulating the "Macra" inside people, she can control them. She notes that it's easier to do this with living beings than with corpses.
* PsychoLesbian: Seems to be in a sexual relationship with Kyôka. Even more so when she is furious at Elfman for "embarrassing" her in front of Kyôka.
* PsychoticSmirk: Right before the Fantastic Nuke lacrima she ordered Elfman to plant in Fairy Tail's headquarters detonates.
* SadisticChoice: See I Have Your Sister. She's making Elfman choose between his family and his guild.
* She'sGotLegs: And Mashima loves showing them off.
* Spell My Name with an "S": She has been called "Seira" and "Sayla".
* The Stoic: She shows no expression, not even sadistic glee, as she forces Elfman to strangle his sister Lisanna.
* Superpower Lottery: Doesn't get much more broken than People Puppets.
* Tattooed Crook: She has markings on her forehead and shoulders, though they appear more to be runes of some kind, rather than tattoos.
* Throw the Book at Them: Is shown doing this to Mirajane, with several floating books all pelting her at once. It's a lot more effective than it sounds.
* Wicked Cultured: Not only is she a Badass Bookworm, she constantly refers to everything going on around her as if it were the plot of one of her stories, even going so far as to as to comment on events as if she were critiquing a book.
* Yandere: Wanting to kill Lisanna in front of Mirajane just because Elfman embarrassed her in front of Kyôka clinches it.
* Zettai Ryouiki: Type A.
