* KickTheDog: Has ''a ton'' of these moments throughout the film. Examples include ''everything'' he does at the first 10 minutes of the movie, belittling a second grader's obesity, his sadistic treatment of [[ButtMonkey Whitey]], and just being an extremely unpleasant person in general. His TheReasonYouSuckSpeech towards Whitey ''easily'' counts as such moment.
* LackOfEmpathy: He comes off as rather remorseless for the most part.
* PetTheDog: Excluding what he does at the end, he does treat his ex-girlfriend's son, Benjamin, pretty nicely, though is still considered a poor influence on him since he taught him to use profanity to one of their basketball opponents. This also counts as one of his ''few'' redeeming traits before his HeelFaceTurn.

* UngratefulBastard: He continuously treats Whitey poorly despite the fact that Whitey stood up to him for the judge by minimizing his prison time.

* VillainProtagonist: Spends the majority of the movie breaking the law, drinking carelessly, hurting innocent people, and he just comes off as a very unpleasant person in general. [[spoiler: He ''does'', however, try to make things right towards the end.]]
