* HiddenDepths: In the first episode he's seen in, he suggests that a bad divorce and the death of someone close to him led him to spiral downwards, and that the job with the Chicago PD impersonating Vecchio was a "second chance" for him to get a fresh start in life. The audience later learns exactly what these two motivating factors are -- the death of one of his former detective colleagues, and the divorce with his ex-wife, Stella, later on in the third season.
