** When Louie gives a rousing speech to fire Donald up (as his bad luck that day got so horrific in a race against Gladstone where he was ready to give up), he channels the Rage to become TheDeterminator [[spoiler:and power through the obstacles Liu Hai put in his path. [[MakeMeWannaShout One Donald-Shout dispels a jade tiger illusion]] while he powers through a giant pachinko machine in a WallRun and ''even breaks through some of the parts'' on his way to win]].

** When confronted by his family in [[Recap/DuckTales2017S3E2QuackPack Quack Pack!]] for keeping them trapped inside the genie's fantasy world, Donald points out that their usual lifestyle tends to cause a lot of trouble. Combined with how badly Donald tends to suffer as the ButtMonkey, it's hard not to feel sympathy for him.

* LetsGetDangerous: While he may get hurt, Donald will leap into action if someone or something threatens his nephews.

** For all of his flaws, Donald serves as this among the adults in the main cast. Whereas Scrooge's pride, Beakley's spy training, and Launchpad's manchild attitude have caused significant trouble in the series, Donald is pretty reasonable to the the triplets and Webbie.

** His resentment at Scrooge is understandable. Despite knowing of Della's increased rashfulness, [[spoiler:Scrooge still ended up building the Spear of Selene anyways, ignoring Donald's concerns. It also doesn't help that Scrooge can be pretty irresponsible as a parental figure, as well as somewhat harsh to Donald at times.]]

** In other cartoons and comics, Donald tends to be a bullying figure towards Goofy, whereas here he's much more amicable and respectful towards him.

** His relationship with Goofy is also much better here. In many other works featuring the two such as ''WesternAnimation/HouseOfMouse'', Donald can barely tolerate Goofy and frequently acts as something of a bully to him. Here, while Donald finds Goofy's klutziness and dimness frustrating, he never mistreats him and considers him a genuine friend and confidant.

* CharacterDevelopment: Zig-zagged.
** He starts the series loathing his Uncle Scrooge, is too overprotective with the boys, and has sworn off adventuring for good, with no desire to ever be a hero. During the events of "Woo-oo!", he eventually relents and lets the boys join Scrooge on adventures so they can learn "to get out of trouble". However, he rarely joins them (until season 3) and despite being more civil to Scrooge, he still dislikes him enough that he spends most of his time during season 1 trying to fix his houseboat, so he can move the boys out of the mansion and away from his uncle. But in the season finale, Mrs. Beakley tells Donald just how far Scrooge went in trying to save Della, which leads him to forgive Scrooge for the incident.

** Donald also starts to become more accepting of adventuring again after his talk with Goofy in "[[Recap/DuckTales2017S3E2QuackPack Quack Pack!]]" even being more willing to go on the adventure in "[[Recap/DuckTales2017S3E4TheLostHarpOfMervana The Lost Harp of Mervana!]]" than Della, and has a genuinely good time doing so.
* ClashingCousins: As we know Donald has complicated family relations and cousins aren't exempt from this.
** Gladstone is an obvious example for this as he tends to be a smug JerkAss towards Donald who was BornUnlucky compared to his cousin's [[BornLucky supernatural luck]]. It doesn't help that his nephews seemed to prefer him even going so far as to call him the ''cool uncle''. At least until "The House of the Lucky Gander!". However it should be noted while he can't stand the guy he doesn't want him dead as he goes to save him.
** Fethry is the other cousin Donald doesn't like even going so far as to ignore a phone call that could have easily been a distress call. However, his unlike Gladstone it's less about his personality and more to do with his {{Cloudcuckoolander}} antics. Like when calling Donald for help he instead leads him into large amounts of danger (even considered too dangerous for '''Scrooge''') only just to show them something meaningless that Fethry thought was ''pretty''. All of these things have ended up with Donald calling him "cuckoo-bananas".

* ComplexityAddiction: A consequence of his bad luck and his bad temper is that he makes stuff too complicated for himself, as evidenced by his adjustment with Beakley in his first week at Scrooge's. The gag where he orders a battery of generators to power his houseboat as it floats on a swimming pool is classic Donald, especially when Beakley points out [[StatingTheSimpleSolution he could have just asked to borrow a plug]].

* TheDragAlong: Going by the flashback in "The Last Crash of the Sunchaser!" it seemed that Scrooge and Della were the ones who really into adventuring and Donald was basically along for the ride, [[spoiler:and why when the nephews were about to be born he was the one who ready to take a break.]] Although it seems he did enjoy the trips that were marine oriented such as river-boating through jungles, fighting pirates at sea, and exploring the depth of the ocean since those played to his strengths.
* TheDreaded: No one in Duckburg would dare cross a temperamental Donald. His temper makes even socialite Emma Glamour chafe.

* DudeWheresMyRespect: Raised triplets for ten years entirely on his own, and they still think Uncle Scrooge (who didn't pay them a visit or give them birthday presents) and Uncle Gladstone (who is "the worst") are cooler than him (although the kids do eventually realize that Gladstone isn't a good person). Or at least that's how he feels sometimes, since the boys do love and admire him, especially Huey. (At the end of "The House of the Lucky Gander" the boys and Webby all hug Donald, who'd gone through the Mother of all Unlucky Days.)
** In "The Shadow War" there is a big implication that he doesn't get all the respect he deserves because no one can understand what he is saying half the time. As soon as his speech impediment is temporarily fixed, while still a ButtMonkey, everyone, including Beakley, falls in line to his plans.
** While the boys don't exactly think he's the most awesome person to have ever lived (that title goes to Scrooge), they have since let up on a lot of the disrespect they had for Donald at the beginning of the series after realizing the implications of him having to raise the three while dealing with the trauma of losing Della.

* GoodParents: Despite being way too overprotective, it's made very clear that Donald loves his nephews as if they were his own sons and his main concern is finding a stable and steady job to support them.

* JerkassRealization: [[spoiler:He has it when Mrs. Beakley calls him and the boys out for leaving Scrooge. He's been noticing how depressed the boys have been since learning about the Spear of Selene, and how frantic Webby and Launchpad are. He also realizes that Scrooge was also hurting over Della's disappearance, and that he was just as much to blame for their initial falling out. He decides to abort the move to Cape Suzette, and reconcile with Scrooge.]]

* NeverMyFault: He blames Scrooge for tearing his family apart even though he was the one who made the choice to leave and keep his nephews cut off from not only Scrooge, but basically everyone else in his family. It takes Beakley's WhatTheHellHero speech to [[JerkassRealization finally see how he had much to blame]] and decided to make amends with Scrooge.

* StrugglingSingleFather: He's under forty, chronically unemployed and unemployable, poor, unmarried, and has to be the single parent/guardian of three rambunctious kids while reeling from guilt about not being able to provide them the childhood adventures they want. Donald is especially resentful about his nephews liking Gladstone as a CoolUncle, mostly because he's his least favorite relative by a ''large'' margin.
