But somehow he's ended up in a British sci-fi series where the main character is a centuries old, body changing and pacifistic alien who travels through time and space in a wooden box. This contrast is greatly shown in their different approaches: while Rose is disappointed by the Doctor's more casual and ordinary approach to simply talk to people to find the spacecraft, Jack goes for what Rose calls a more "[[Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries Spock]]" approach where he actually scans for alien tech and calls him "a professional".

Actually as described on Temporal Duplication trope page, the trope is only in effect if a second version of the character is created through time travel that is distinct from another version.
