* TheAgeless: Being a high elf he is naturally immortal. This has skewed his perception of the passage of time, finding it difficult to discern between an eternity and an hour.
* CantArgueWithElves: His entire character is a parody of this trope. While posturing as an inhumanly beautiful being who is appreciative of nature's beauty and naturally better than most other races, Telemaine and pretty much the rest of Kei Lumennura come off more as a bunch of condescending, out-of-touch weirdos who, while harmless, rub a number of the Bad Kids the wrong way.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: He is supposed to be the watching over the young elves living in Kei Lumennura, but his daughter notes that he spends most of his time picking flowers and turning into sand while not realizing that the teens are spending a lot of time fucking unsupervised.
* CondescendingCompassion: Pities non-elf races and their mortality. He specifically feels bad for Gorgug who he believes as a half-orc will only live for 20 years, which everybody else is quick to correct him on.
* JerkassToOne: While he had bad interactions with both Gorgug and Riz, Telemaine felt bad about not being able to say Gorgug's name correctly and attempts many times to get it right. However, he and Riz become hostile very quickly, partly due to Riz's short fuse with the elves weirdness and Telemaine's disgust at the very concept of Riz's gun, which he views as dwarvish shit. When the Bad Kids arrive to spend the Moonar Yulenear in Fallinel in Junior Year, Telemaine immediately begins to call Riz "Rizbert" before leaning over him in a mocking way and saying "not your house little guy". Even Fabian acknowledges that his grandfather is being very weirdly aggressive to Riz.

His pronunciation of Gorgug's name changes every time he says it and he struggles with universal words like school and teenager. The party (sans Gorgug who quickly becomes ticked off) find it hilarious and continue to say words at him in the hopes he'll repeat them back.

* AllegoricalCharacter: Baron is essentially Riz's fear of isolation and abandonment given material form, as Baron was specifically invented so Riz would fit in better and not have to answer any questions about his lack of interest in romance or sex.
* AmbiguousGender: When first mentioned Fabian says Baron is a hot name for a girl or guy, and Adaine addresses Baron as Riz's "un-clarified boyfriend or girlfriend." Riz later calls Baron a "weird little skeleton boy." Both Brennan and Murph use he/his, they/them, and it/its pronouns interchangeably regarding Baron.
* BerserkButton: Saying hurtful things about them or their relationship with Riz. Three strikes means bringing the offender to see their "stark father."
* BlackEyesOfEvil: Has these.
* GirlfriendInCanada: At the start of Sophomore Year Riz makes an off-the-cuff lie about having a romantic pen pal in the Baronies, which nobody buys. It comes back two episodes later in a much more nightmarish way when Baron comes to life in Riz's office and abducts him.
* InsistentTerminology: Refers to himself as Riz's "romance partner" despite this term having no basis in reality.
* LaughablyEvil: Baron is a truly terrifying character and their introduction is regarded by the players as one of the scariest parts of the campaign. However, their accent and pronunciation of certain words (re: their attempt at Fathethriel's name) provides some legitimate laughs.
* LineOfSightName: When Riz first makes up his partner he specifically looks at a map of Spyre while doing so, hence the [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment redundant]] [[ADogNamedDog "Baron" from the Baronies]].
* MirrorMonster: Baron first appears to Riz from within a mirror in his private investigator's office, and is set free when Riz shoots the glass. They appear again to Riz much later in the Nightmare King's forest in a grove composed of huge mirror shards where Baron continues to torment Riz.
* MurderousMannequin: Is described as a bone-white goblin mannequin in a fancy Lord Fauntleroy outfit, and while primarily a psychological threat they almost snap Riz's neck when they pull him through the mirror and knock him out.
* NoMouth: Essentially has no mouth, as it is just a carved line on his creepy doll face which doesn't move when Baron speaks.
* WhatTheHellIsThatAccent: Brennan plays Baron with an accent that is difficult to pin down, made only harder to identify by their strange pronunciation of some words. Their floating accent only adds the unbalancing, creepy vibe their entire character gives off.
* {{Yandere}}: Is delighted to be Riz's "romance partner" while violently demanding more details about their false relationship.

* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Weird and condescending he may be, Telemaine is the most reasonable of the Fallinel leaders and offers the Bad Kids respite in Kei Lumennura and protection against the Court of Stars when they break [[spoiler:Adaine and Aelwyn out of their clutches]].

* UndyingLoyalty: Whether serving the Nightmare King or later on [[spoiler: Cassandra]] Kalina remains fully committed to doing whatever she thinks is best for her master. And it's usually her pragmatism and ruthlessness in the pursuit of serving that loyalty that places her in conflict with the Bad Kids. Even in [[spoiler: Junior Year her main conflict with Kristen lies in how Kristen's apathy and carelessness has left Cassandra vulnerable to fading away once again. Leading to her proposing more cynical options that would at least net Cassandra a few more followers in the short-term]].

* CondescendingCompassion: Pities non-elf races and their mortality. He specifically feels bad for Gorgug who he believes as a half-orc will only live for 20 years, which everybody else is quick to correct him on.
* NotSoAboveItAll: He calls Riz a dick when the former mouths off to him.
* ProneToTears: PlayedForLaughs. He sheds a SingleTear at a dying blossom, in awe of its ephemeral beauty which while touching becomes less so when he does it constantly for everything else he comes across. His regular crying is also quite unusual in that his face doesn't move and he just makes a monotone, moaning sound.

The half-phoenix daughter A young member of Arthur Aguefort.Fallinel's Court of Stars who seeks to return Adaine to the elven nation.

* AccentsArentHereditary: Even though her biological father has a proper British accent and her parent Garthy has a Cockney accent, she has a slight British accent in the beginning that is later dropped for an American one.
* AlliterativeName: '''A'''yda '''A'''guefort to match her father's alliterative name.
* BeYourself: She initially modifies her behaviour as much as possible in order to make others like her, but with encouragement from Fig and after [[spoiler:facing the antropomorphic personification of her fears]], she realizes that her being her true self and being loved are not mutually exclusive
* BirdsOfAFeather: She and Adaine bond over both being wizards and having social anxiety.
* DeusExitMachina: She's prevented a few times from directly assisting the party in their quest because she's, in Brennan's own words, "a 13th level wizard who could solve a lot of [the Bad Kids'] problems".
* DisappearedDad: Disconnected from her father Arthur Aguefort [[spoiler: after telling him 300 years ago to never speak to her again]]. Invokes TellMeAboutMyFather when she meets the Bad Kids and wants to know if he ever mentioned her.
* DisproportionateRetribution: [[spoiler: After Fig is subpoenaed by devils to appear in Gorthalax's case, she plans to wipe their entire plane out of existence.]]
* HarpingOnAboutHarpies: Technically she's a human/phoenix hybrid, but her wings and talons are similar to that of a harpy.
* HollywoodAutism: Since she's intended to be a GenderFlip version of the Sherlock Holmes archetype, she still very much fits the stereotypes of Hollywood Autism. She's a LiteralMinded super genius with savant syndrome and NoSocialSkills, and her "weirdness" is exaggerated within her introductory scenes before being toned down as she became a recurring and more nuanced character.
** Downplayed in that Brennan has said he did not intend for Ayda to be an autistic character; (her initial eccentricities most likely meant to parallel [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} her father's]]) but after a good amount of autistic fans shared that they related to her and were happy to see someone like them portrayed on Dimension 20, he embraced the idea and significantly toned down her quirks in subsequent appearances.
* InsecureLoveInterest: Asks Adaine to use her powers of divination to [[spoiler:see how many futures exist in which Fig won't want to kiss Ayda again.]]
** In the Forest of the Nightmare King she is plagued with visions of [[spoiler:her former lives berating her and taunting her by saying there is no logic that someone as amazing as Fig would find any of Ayda's qualities worthwile.]]
* LukeYouAreMyFather: As we find out in the last episode of Sophomore Year, Ayda's last incarnation is the mother of [[spoiler:Garthy, who later raised her current incarnation.]]
* MalaProper: Misnames The Bad Kids as "low-quality children" and says the line "As the saying goes, keep your friends close, and your enemies… as close as possible".
* MinoredInAsskicking: She's primarily an extraordinarily intelligent wizard, but she's also one of the strongest warriors on the Bad Kids' side, being the only one of them other than Gorgug to be able to lift his new axe.
* SemiDivine: Half celestial as her mother is a phoenix, which at least in this world is a celestial creature.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: Not immediately apparent, but the way she processes information and sees magic is very much like her father. She also shares his love for the theatrics of magic and DisproportionateRetribution against their allies' enemies.
* ThatMakesMeFeelAngry: Invokes this constantly with lines like "Incredible, I'm distracted", "I am emotional", and "This is very taxing and I would like it to end!"
* ThePhoenix: Her fiery, birdlike features come from her mother, who's a phoenix.
* Really700YearsOld: An odd example-- being half-phoenix, she's reborn at the end of each lifetime, but doesn't retain any memory of the person she was in her past life. To offset this, she writes notes for her future iteration to read so she knows how to take care of the library. Her current iteration is 17, same as the Bad Kids. [[spoiler: Arthur reveals she's actually closer to 300 years old; one of her past iterations told him never to talk to her again and another destroyed all her notes as an attempt to start fresh. Thus, Ayda began living without her father's presence in her life at all, and has been basically raising herself even though Arthur has always wanted to reconnect.]]

to:

!Leviathan
[[folder:Garthy O'Brien]]
!! Garthy O'Brien
!!! Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garthy.png]]

-->'''Race:''' Half-Orc Aasimar
-->'''Class:''' Paladin (Oath of Devotion)/Sorcerer (Divine Soul)

A half-orc aasimar pirate and proprietor of the Gold Gardens, an entertainment and pleasure house on Leviathan. The Bad Kids come across their name in the Hotel Cavalier guest book and is discovered to have been an old friend and business associate of Bill Seacaster.
----
* CharacterCheck: Despite being nothing but friendly, affable, and surprisingly moral for a pirate, they still try to con Fabian out of his money when they ask them to [[spoiler: locate the Nightmare King's spellbook]].
* EthicalSlut: Ensures that everyone they sleep with is having a good time, and refuses to sleep with romantically-involved monogamous people. When they [[spoiler: have sex with Sandra Lynn]], they apologise to Fig and Tracker, saying they had no intention to cause any harm in doing so.
* {{Hunk}}: Described as handsome and muscular.
* LoveableRogue: A charming criminal who is nonetheless easy to get along with and [[spoiler: woos Sandra Lynn]].
* MrViceGuy: [[ExaggeratedTrope Exaggerated]]. Despite being a pirate who indulges in heavy alcohol and drug abuse, they're as friendly as they come and part of a line of fallen orcish angels, thus embodying the pleasant, comfortable, peaceful parts of life. As they put it themself, this order's motto is basically to fuck people into being decent.
* NiceGuy: Despite being a pirate, Garthy is friendly and welcoming toward the the Bad Kids, and helps them in their quest to recover the Nightmare King's crown.
* NonHumanNonbinary: Nonbinary Half-Orc Aasimar. {{Downplayed}}, as Garthy, like most of the cast of Fantasy High, is a normal person who happens to be a fantasy creature.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent / [[OurDemonsAreDifferent Our Devils Are Different]]: Despite being an aasimar, their race, the Zajiri, are technically in opposition to the Orcish god and therefore described as "ascended devils" rather than "fallen angels".
* TruceZone: Their tavern and pleasure house is a place of non-violence and that rule is strictly enforced by them and their staff.

[[folder:Captain Jim Whitlaw]]
!! James Whitlaw
!!! Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/captain_james_whitlaw.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:]]
-->'''Race:''' Mind Flayer

One of Leviathan’s foremost pirate captains and an old enemy of Bill Seacaster.
----
* ArchEnemy: He is the most personal enemy to Fabian. Meanwhile, Fabian has inherited the status of Jim’s Arch Enemy from his father.
* ArcVillain: The main antagonist of the Leviathan arc in Sophomore Year.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean Davy Jones]], being a tentacle faced, Scottish-accented pirate.
* GiantSpaceFleaOutOfNowhere: Simply shows up in a bar with no previous hint of his existence, and proceeds to utterly demolish Fabian’s spirit, prompting a massive existential crisis from the young man.
* KnightOfCerebus: Sophomore year was already darker than the previous season, but James takes it a step further by utterly destroying the spirit of Comic Relief character Fabian, [[KillTheCutie brutally murdering Alistair Ash]], and setting in motion the events that allows Kir to kidnap Adaine. The standard he sets remains for the rest of the season.
* MasterSwordsman: An incredibly adept and lethal swordsman, even setting aside his psionic powers.
* OneManArmy: Kills over a dozen of Bill’s followers on his own, and proves a significant threat to the Bad Kids on his own even without the intervention of Fallinel’s agents.
* SeadogPegLeg: One of his face tentacles ends in a peg "leg".
* WouldHurtAChild: Just like all Fantasy High villains.

[[caption-width-right:350:]]

-->'''Race:''' Tiefling
-->'''Class:''' Warlock

A young inhabitant of Leviathan who joins up with the party as a guide. Reveals himself to be a warlock of Bill Seacaster, who's forgone the whole "selling your soul" business for simply charging money in exchange for spells.
----
* AffablyEvil: He's nice towards the Bad Kids the first time they meet him, but he's still an amoral pirate working for Bill Seacaster as his warlock [[spoiler: and later as his lackey.]]
* AlliterativeName: '''A'''listair '''A'''sh.
* BodyHorror: [[spoiler: When he shows up on Bill Seacaster's ship, the back of his skull is split open to reveal blazing fire, reflecting his [[CruelAndUnusualDeath death by brain-eating]] courtesy of a Mind Flayer.]]
* BrokenPedestal: As soon as he's introduced, he's shown to have a hero-worship crush on Fabian, being the son of his patron. However, after the encounter with Jim Whitlaw where nearly all of Bill's warlocks are massacred and Fabian [[EtTuBrute abandons him to have his brain eaten]], Alastair shows up later as a vengeful spirit on the Goldenrod who immediately goes to kill Fabian for revenge.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: After being defeated by Fabian on the Goldenrod, seeing how the latter's personal journey to dance battling has led to personal fulfillment, Alastair concludes that he had to die for Fabian to be the chosen one... ergo, ''he's'' actually the chosen one for helping Fabian reach that goal.
* DealWithTheDevil: Is a warlock with a pact with [[spoiler: Bill Seacaster after he became an infernal entity.]]
* {{Keet}}: He's very chipper and excitable.

-->'''Race:''' Gnome

One of Bill Seacaster's multi-level marketing warlocks.

* {{Determinator}}: [[spoiler:Somehow finds his way into the Forest of the Nightmare King, which cannot be accessed without a devil's aid, [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext so he can shit in Fabian's mouth.]]]]
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Went from seemingly a one-off joke character to [[spoiler:one of Fabian's worst nightmares.]]
* HiddenDepths: According to the "Making Chungledown Bim" bonus episode, [[spoiler: Chungledown is a 20th level adventurer with an 18 in intelligence.]]
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Originally spelled as Chungle-down Bim, but the hyphen was later omitted.

[[folder:Ayda Aguefort]]
!! Ayda Aguefort

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ayda.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:''"Well whatever the case I, in my heart, feel deep down that, I too, am a 'low quality child.'"'']]
-->'''Race:''' Half-Phoenix
-->'''Class:''' Wizard (School of Divination)

The half-phoenix daughter of Arthur Aguefort.
----
* AccentsArentHereditary: Even though her biological father has a proper British accent and her parent Garthy has a Cockney accent, she has a slight British accent in the beginning that is later dropped for an American one.
Thus, Ayda began living without her father's presence in her life at all, and has been basically raising herself [[DramaticIrony even though Arthur has always wanted to reconnect.]]]]

!Fallinel
[[folder:Kir]]
!! Kir
!!! Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan
-->'''Race:''' High Elf
-->'''Class:''' Wizard (School of Divination)

A young member of Fallinel's Court of Stars who seeks to return Adaine to the elven nation.
----
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Legitimately does not understand why Adaine is upset about being kidnapped and why she is resistant to being forced into being the oracle for Fallinel.
* FauxAffablyEvil: She acts extremely polite and like she does Adaine a favor by [[spoiler:blackmailing her into coming with her in exchange for not killing her friends]], but underneath that thin veneer is nothing but arrogance and enjoyment in the harm she causes.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Her response to Arthur Aguefort's threat was to pick the [[BringIt No option]] when asked if she would like to avoid her doom and release Adaine. Aguefort responded in kind and subsequently showed Fallinel why he's one of the greatest wizards in the world.
* WouldHurtAChild: Fully willing to kill the Bad Kids to acquire Adaine. [[spoiler:Also plans on executing Adaine for not being cooperative in order for another High Elf to become the Oracle]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Telemaine Lomenelda]]
!! Telemaine Lomenelda
!!! Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan
-->'''Race:''' High Elf

Fabian's maternal grandfather and watcher of the elven sanctuary Kei Lumennura.
----
* AccentUponTheWrongSyllable: Pronounces his grandson's name as "Fah-bee-AHN," and Gorgug as "Jor-judge."
* YouSayTomato: Telemaine's most notable trait is his inability to recognize, much less pronounce, perfectly common words. His pronunciation of Gorgug's name changes every time he says it and he struggles with universal words like school and teenager. The party (sans Gorgug who quickly becomes ticked off) find it hilarious and continue to say words at him in the hopes he'll repeat them back.

!The Nightmare King's Forces
[[folder:The Shadow Cat]]
!! Kalina the Shadow Cat
!!! Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kalina.png]]
-->'''Race:''' Tabaxi

An enigmatic tabaxi woman whose existence ties heavily into the mystery of the Nightmare King. Her presence is first discovered in an old photo Riz finds of her and his dad Pok Gukgak.
----
* AmbitionIsEvil: Her stated motivation for following the Nightmare King during her exchange with Riz is simply that they give her more power than she could ever dream of.
* CatsAreSnarkers: The only comedic aspect to her character is her snarking.
* CatFolk: A tabaxi, but an unusual example in that Kalina is close to the size and the color of a black house cat. [[spoiler:With TheReveal of her origins, her size makes sense as she really did use to be the cat familiar of the Goddess of Mystery]].
* ChessmasterSidekick: Though the Nightmare King is quite good at being TheChessmaster themself, it's Kalina who manipulates the evnts of Sophomore Year in order to bring them back.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: With [[spoiler: Kalvaxus]]. While he was bombastic and dramatic, with his seriousness being played for laughs, physically formidable, wanted power and wealth for himself, stayed hidden until the finale, and used his money to get smarter people than him to carry out the plans, she is soft-spoken and cold, her occasional playfulness still feeding into her threatening aura, works for the Nightmare King, doesn't present a physical threat, is a presence throughout the season, and uses manipulation and trickery to achieve her goals.
* DeathOfAThousandCuts: Kalina typically attack someone by manifesting claw-like scratches on them. [[spoiler:It's actually her activating and proliferating her virus in the infected individuals with the symptoms appearing as nasty scratch-like rashes]].
* TheDisembodied: Kalina is discovered to be an [[spoiler:incorporeal being who was trans-substantiated from a physical familiar into the form of a contagious plague. Kalina has no physical presence, but she can be seen and heard by those who are infected by her virus. She regains her physical form once in the forest of the Nightmare King]].
* DragonInChief: With the Nightmare King stuck on another plane and the clerics keeping their influence at bay, she's left to orchestrate her master's return. [[spoiler:Pok's death, Fig and Riz's kidnapping, and Arianwen's theft of the Nightmare King's crown]] are all instigated by her.
* FauxAffablyEvil: She speaks in a polite, calm manner towards Riz [[spoiler:as she's threatening the lives of Fabian and Lydia]].
* TheHeavy: Subservient to the Nightmare King, but is the villain the Bad Kids interact with the most and whose actions cause them constant grief during the party's search for her master's crown.
* ManipulativeBastard: She loves to get in her foes' heads, and isn't above using leverage and deception to get them to do what she wants.
* PerceptionFilter: One of [[spoiler:her virus' functions]]. Those who are [[spoiler: infected]] by Kalina can see her and any record of her - namely the photo of her and Pok at a cocktail party - while everyone else is unable to, seeing an empty space where she should be.
* PlagueMaster: Kalina is revealed to be the [[spoiler: familiar of the Goddess of Mystery who was transmogrified from a cat into a living plague. Her virus allows those infected to see and hear her, and is transmitted through contact via bodily fluids. She is also able to see and hear through their eyes and ears and has limited control over their bodies, being able to paralyze Riz during their first formal encounter]].
* StealthExpert: Kalina used to work as a spy for the Fallinel secret service, occasionally as a partner with Riz's father whenever the Solasian and Fallinel governments were required to cooperate. She was known for her talents in becoming invisible, breaking past abjurations and wards and being near impossible to scry upon. [[spoiler:Being an incorporeal magic plague, most barriers, physical or otherwise, would do jack against her. All she would need to do is infect the right person and then simply wait for the host to unwittingly carry her into the desired location]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Baron]]
!!Baron from the Baronies
!!! Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan
-->'''Race:''' Unknown

A horrific nightmare entity born from Riz's lies about having a long-distance partner in the Baronies.
----
* AllegoricalCharacter: Baron is essentially Riz's fear of isolation and abandonment given material form, as Baron was specifically invented so Riz would fit in better and not have to answer any questions about his lack of interest in romance or sex.
* BlackEyesOfEvil: Has these.

[[folder:The Nightmare King]]
!!The Nightmare King/[[spoiler:The Unnamed Goddess]]/[[spoiler:Cassandra, The Goddess of Mystery and Magic]]
!!! Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_nightmare_king.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:]]
-->'''Race:''' Extraplanar Being

A mysterious extraplanar being who first appeared around 850 years ago during the Last Great Sylvan War, at the time when the forest of Sylvaire was cursed, and became the Forest of the Nightmare King. [[spoiler: In reality she is the Unnamed Goddess the Deity of Mystery, Night and Magic.]]
----
* BigBad: Of ''Sophomore Year''.
* TheChessmaster: Aside from being Kalvaxus' advisor and likely the brains behind his conquest of the world, considering Kalvaxus himself isn't that smart, [[spoiler: they tricked him so that Kalvaxus' return would bring them back to the physical world, whether he succeeded or not]].
* ClapYourHandsIfYouBelieve: A large part of the Nightmare King plays into what [[spoiler:the followers of the Goddess of Mystery believed in. When the church of Galicaea became convinced her teachings were heresy and her followers tried to destroy her, her efforts to stay alive ended up with her becoming the Nightmare King. And ultimately, the Nightmare King is defeated by Kristen believing in her, being the first person to do so in over 850 years and becoming her first new worshipper.]]
* TheConsigliere: Served as one to Kalvaxus in return for being returned to Spyre after her banishment, being put in charge of solving problems related to spellcasting and breaking wards on highly protected places.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: The Nightmare King creates horror more than terror; making a village's children disappear, destroying monasteries or having people trapped inside dreams. All of which is very different to Kalvaxus's more straightforward "burn towns; get money" approach. Also, Kalvaxus is blatantly evil, whilst the Nightmare King is a little more complicated.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:At the time of the last Great Sylvan War, about 850 years ago, the centaurs, treants, sprites, and wood elves in Sylvaire were in conflict with each other, motivated by religious differences between the tribes over the correct way to worship the Goddess of Mystery. She was despised by the clerics of Galicaea who considered everything they knew about her heresy, so they convinced the Goddess of Mystery's own followers that she shouldn't have a name. Her own followers proceeded to attempt to destroy her name through a council and a ritual act of divining magic on the advice of the High Elven Clerics of Galicaea. To avoid being unmade, the Goddess performed four trans-substantiations and one great trans-substantiation before the ritual was carried out, continuing to exist as the Nightmare King.]]
* TheDeterminator: [[spoiler:Went to pretty insane lengths, even for a Goddess, to ensure her own followers didn't erase her from existence.]]
* DemonicPossession: Able to enter people's dreams and possess them which endangers the lives of the Bad Kids multiple times.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: [[spoiler: They are identified originally as a goddess, then misidentified as a Nightmare "King", then end up as a godexx that uses they/she pronouns, very much implying a nonbinary allegory.]]
* DragonAscendant: Becomes the new BigBad following the [[spoiler:defeat of Kalvaxus during Prompocalypse]]. Bonus points given that her former boss was literally a dragon.
* DragonTheirFeet: Is stated to have been a lieutenant to Kalvaxus who was the BigBad of the Bad Kids' freshman year, but she isn't brought up very much until her crown is stolen from Arthur Aguefort's office during Prompocalypse and he sends the Bad Kids to retrieve it in their sophomore year for 60% of the final grade. [[spoiler:Justified in Sophmore Year when it's revealed that the Nightmare King had no real loyalty to Kalvaxus, being a much older and deadlier entity who agreed to be his lieutenant in order to use him to return to the physical world]].
* EarlyBirdCameo: Mentioned as early as the very first episode of Fantasy High but doesn't start to play a major role until the second season.
* EldritchAbomination: An extraplanar being whose origin is a point of contention. The reality of what they are is equally terrifying as The Nightmare King is essentially [[spoiler:what remains of the Goddess of Mystery's last ditch attempt to survive a ritual meant to destroy her.]]
* EvilIsBigger: She is an 800 foot tall skeleton draped in shadows.
* FisherKing: Subverted. Her appearance in the Sylvaire Forest caused it to become cursed and led to the emergence of the first dark elves and evil fey, however, even after her banishment her curse remained on the forest.
* GenderReveal: Was originally female but since they appear as a giant skeleton their gender was unclear and everyone assumed they were male, hence why they given the name of The Nightmare ''King''.
* GreaterScopeVillain: As revealed at the end of Freshman Year and throughout Sophomore Year, the agents of the Nightmare King were working towards resurrecting their master while using [[spoiler:Kalvaxus's plot]] as a cover.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:After overcoming the trans-substantiations the Goddess of Mystery performed to avoid destruction, Kristen reaches out to her and becomes her first new follower in over 850 years, allowing the Nightmare King to come to an end and be reformed as Cassandra, the new Goddess of Mystery, Night and Magic.]]
* IKnowYourTrueName: Subverted. Kristen has no clue what the original name of the [[spoiler:Goddess of Mystery was, but she renames what remains of the deity Cassandra to give them new purpose and meaning before devoting herself to her as her first new follower in over 850 years, destroying the form of the Nightmare King and allowing them to be reborn once again as the new Goddess of Mystery, Night and Magic.]]
* MysteriousPast: Nobody really knows what The Nightmare King even ''is'' since the undead think he's a fae, but the fae and elves think he's undead. The best guess is that they are some sort of devil since The Nightmare King fought on their side in the Blood War against the demons in the past. Uncovering the truth is vital to the Bad Kids defeating her.
* NonHumanNonbinary: [[spoiler: When turned into Cassandra, they are a nonbinary Goddexx.]]
* NotEvilJustMisunderstood: Zig Zagged. In the form of the Nightmare King, they are undeniably a force of darkness and evil, however, [[spoiler:the essence of the Goddess of Mystery exists within them and once they begin to weaken the power of the Nightmare King by overcoming the trans-substantiations, it allows the Nightmare King to be reinterpreted by her first new follower into a benevolent force once again.]]
** Played straight in her backstory since [[spoiler:she was almost destroyed by the machinations of the church of Galicaea because everything they understood about her teachings and domains of Mystery, Night and Magic were considered heretical.]]
* TragicVillain: [[spoiler: The unnamed goddess was a kind and benevolent deity before she was betrayed and destroyed by her followers, only turning into the Nightmare King after performing the 5 trans-substantiations to save herself]].
