[[spoiler:Due to Nyarlathotep's manipulations, being a pure and perfect "hero" is pretty much completely entwined with Kurou's personality and fundamental nature, which provides some explanation as to why this is.]]

* {{BFG}}: "Dig Me No Grave", her AntiMagic energy cannon.

to:

* YouDontLookLikeYou: In the ''Mythos'' proper, Cthugha is generally a gigantic living fireball. And while it does often appear in that guise, there's a great horned beast at the center which is Cthugha itself.

The Great Old One of ice and snow, Ithaqua is another deity that Al Azif can summon. Again, due to Kurou's relative inexperience, it takes a while for him to reliably control it. It first appears as a blizzard, with no solid form, but afterwards usually manifests as a dragon made of ice.

!! Another Blood

A mysterious girl calling herself the ''Necronomicon: Blood Edition''. She is highly skilled in blood sorcery and pilots a blood-red Demonbane known as "Demonbane Blood". She is very hostile towards Al Azif, but affectionate toward Kurou.
----

* AncestralWeapon: Let's just say there's a reason she is piloting Demonbane.
* BloodMagic: Her specialty. Pretty much everything about her is named for blood.
* KidFromTheFuture: [[spoiler:She's actually a potential daughter of Kurou and Al that never existed, because that timeline never developed. The reason she exists now is because Nyarlathotep got involved.]]
* IJustWantToBeLoved: [[spoiler:Her greatest desire is to be acknowledged and loved by Kurou, her father. She sees her mother, Al Azif, as competition in this regard.]]

!! Kuzaku

A strange boy who appears around the same time as Another Blood, piloting yet another Demonbane known as the "Demonbane Two Swords". He does battle against Another Blood and seems to bear a grudge toward Kurou and Al Azif.
----

* AncestralWeapon: [[spoiler:He can wield Cthugha and Ithaqua, just as Kurou does. Not to mention that he's piloting Demonbane.]]
* DualWielding: His specialty, as one might infer from his title. In addition to the guns, he also dual-wields swords by the names of Lloigar and Zhar (implied to be summoned Great Old Ones in the same manner as Cthugha and Ithaqua).
* KidFromTheFuture: [[spoiler:He's Kurou's and Al's son from another timeline.]]
* ParentalAbandonment: He was left in the care of the Ruri Hadou from his timeline, while his parents disappeared. He has not forgiven them for this. [[spoiler:Kurou and Al left him behind when they went to war with the Outer Gods, not wanting him to get involved.]]
* RedBaron: He's known as "Two Swords, Two Guns" for his signature dual-wielding style.

!! Laban Shrewsbury

Author of the ''Celeano Fragments'', protagonist of the Mythos story "Trail of Cthulhu", and a professor at Miskatonic University. He is also the operator of the Deus Machina Ambrose. He appears in the sequel, looking into the case of the mysterious "blood monsters" that have been appearing.

Ruri's three maids, who also run the command center whenever Demonbane is launched. They all have rather... interesting quirks.

An Anticross sorceror, dressed like a clown and constantly wearing a mask that changes expression depending on his mood. Tiberius is sadist, rapist, murderer, and all-around completely abhorrent person. His power primarily comes from the fact that he's immortal: his body is a constantly rotting corpse, but thanks to his sorcery he does not die no matter how much damage he takes. He wields the power of ''De Vermis Mysteris'', and his Deus Machina is Beelzebuth.

''The R'lyeh Texts''

The grimoire concerning all matters of Cthulhu and its ilk. Like Etheldreda and Al Azif, she takes the appearance of
a clown young girl. Unlike the other grimoires, she is not bound to any sorceror and constantly wearing a mask that changes expression depending on his mood. * CloudCuckooLander: She rarely if ever takes notice of the things happening around her, instead chanting songs of worship to Cthulhu.
* HappinessInSlavery: [[spoiler:When she's offered to Cthulhu along with the C Priestess, she appears to be in ecstasy as Cthulhu's tentacles constantly violate her.]]
* MacGuffinGirl: She is central to Black Lodge's "Project C".

[[folder:Elder Gods]]
!!Atlach-Nacha

A mysterious woman who Great Old One associated with spiders. Summoned by the out-of-control power of Al Azif's lost pages, it appears before in the form of a woman, captures people in webs, and takes them away.

It is eventually recaptured by Al and lends her power to
Kurou and Master Therion, and seems to be manipulating everything from the shadows. Her goals are unclear, but she is clearly more than she seems and is not someone to be trifled with.
Demonbane.

* AllWebbedUp: It's a spider god, what did you expect?
* PrehensileHair: The power it gives to Kurou and Demonbane: the ability to make a giant magical web out of their hair to trap and ensnare enemies.
* {{Succubus}}: Uses sex to drain the life force out of its victims.

!!Dagon and Hydra

An Elder God summoned during "The Shadow over Innsmouth" as a "test" for the C Project. Because Dagon was summoned before "the stars were right", it is forced to absorb the life force of its worshippers, the Deep Ones, and is extremely angry afterward. It soon summons its mate, Hydra, to help it against Demonbane.
----

* CombinationAttack: Several times during the battle, Dagon and Hydra combine themselves into a single creature. It's described as part of their "mating" process.
* {{Kaiju}}: Dagon is the first giant non-robot fought in the game, and the first encounter with a true Elder God that Kurou has.
* SoLastSeason: [[spoiler:Thousands of Dagon and Hydra appear at Cthulhu's behest to do battle against the combined human military. By this point, Demonbane has powered up so much it can take them down by the dozens without even trying.]]
* VampiricDraining: They can drain the life force from mortal creatures to sustain itself.

!!Cthugha

The Great Old One of flame and fire, Cthugha is among the deities Al Azif can summon. However, due to Kurou's inexperience, it takes quite some time to get Cthugha under control.
----

* DefeatMeansFriendship: After Kurou... ''subdues'' Cthugha, it takes a liking to him and brands him with its mark, allowing Kurou to summon it even without Al's help.
* EmpathicWeapon: Kurou eventually transforms the Cthugha summoning spell so that Cthugha arrives in the form of an automatic pistol, which makes its power much easier to control. Demonbane can summon a suitably scaled-up version as well.
* KillItWithFire: Pretty much what Cthugha does whenever it gets summoned. Anything within several miles of it melts or vaporizes almost instantly.

!!Ithaqua

The Great Old One of ice and snow, Ithaqua is another deity that Al Azif can summon. Again, due to Kurou's relative inexperience, it takes a while for him to reliably control it.
----

* DefeatMeansFriendship: After Kurou... ''subdues'' Ithaqua, it takes a liking to him and brands him with its mark, allowing Kurou to summon it even without Al's help.
* EmpathicWeapon: Kurou eventually transforms the Ithaqua summoning spell so that it arrives in the form of a silver revolver, making its power easier to control. Demonbane can summon a scaled-up version as well.
* KillItWithIce: Ithaqua's presence means that anything nearby is instantly frozen.

!!Cthulhu

The "Great C" himself, Cthulhu is the Great Old One destined to awaken "when the stars are right" and reign over Earth once more. Black Lodge plans to intervene with the summoning and use Cthulhu's powers for themselves.
----

* EldritchAbomination: Stands out even among the other Great Old Ones; his mere ''appearance'' causes everyone's mind and will to grind to a halt.
* LivingMacGuffin: Due to Black Lodge's manipulations, Cthulhu spends most of his time either half-asleep or under their control.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: Because he is summoned into Black Lodge's Illusory Heart Mother, Cthulhu appears as a gigantic flying ball of metal with flesh and tentacles emerging every which way, rather than the squid-headed humanoid he's usually depicted as.

!!Yog-Sothoth

The Outer God of Time and Space, the All-in-One and One-in-All. He makes an appearance near the end of the story and plays an important role in its climax.
----

* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: Turns into a giant floating gate in the sky soon after showing up. He also appears in his guise as 'Umr at-Tawil to guide Demonbane to the final battle.
* EldritchAbomination: Moreso than any other in the story, Yog-Sothoth briefly overwrites reality and nearly annihilates everyone's sanity when he appears, before he shifts forms into something less incomprehensible.
* NobleDemon: The one Elder God that isn't hostile to the heroes, and indeed is even somewhat helpful.

!!The Dunwich Horror/Wilbur Whateley

The reason Kurou decided to leave Miskatonic University and never deal with magic ever again. It is quickly dispelled by the senior staff, but its presence continues to haunt Kurou.
----

* BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind: Where Kurou [[spoiler:and Ruri]] eventually fight and finally defeat him, within Kurou's memory.
* EnemyWithin: His presence remains in Kurou's mind, and needs to be exorcised before he can fully reach his potential.
* HumanoidAbomination: Looks like a mishmash of human, goat, and tentacles.

!!Nya

Part 1 of cleaning up this character list. Will provide context to the ZCE\'s and some better organization next.

The main character of the story
story. A dropout from Miskatronic University with a cursory education in matters of sorcery, Kurou is now trying (and mostly failing) to earn a living as a Private Investigator. After receiving a job from the Hadou Group to locate a powerful grimoire for them, he stumbles across both Al Azif and Demonbane, and gets thrown into the heart of the Hadou Group's war against Black Lodge.

{{Badass}}: You wouldn't know it to look at him, but this guy consistently ''refuses'' to give up a fight, no matter how much pain and harm he goes through.
** BadassLongcoatBadassLongcoat: His magius form grants him one.

* PerpetualPoverty

to:

* PerpetualPovertyPerpetualPoverty: His business is constantly terrible, such that he isn't surprised at all to find his utilities deactivated when he comes home. He also considers being able to have instant coffee in the morning to be a luxury.

The most powerful and legendary grimoire in existence, the ''Necronomicon'' itself, a grimoire so powerful that it has its own body and soul rather than simply being a book. Al Azif has been passed from sorceror to sorceror over the centuries as she constantly does battle against Evil. She latches onto Kurou as her latest master, and despite his inexperience as a sorceror, she soon takes a liking to him, moreso than any master she's had previously...

to:

!! Sister Leica

A nun who runs a church/orphanage near Kurou's home. She is good friends with Kurou and he often stops by to have dinner with her (mostly because he can't afford food himself). She constantly pesters him to earn a living himself, but never turns him away from a meal.

As time goes on, it's clear that there's a lot more to her than is at first apparent, and she is much more familiar with Black Lodge than one would ever have expected...

* [[spoiler: [[YouareNumberSix You are Number 4]]: Referred [[spoiler:Referred to this way when she was being raised by Black Lodge for the C project.]]

The young head of the Hadou Group, and probably one of the wealthiest and most influential people on the planet. Ruri leads the war against Black Lodge, continuing from where her grandfather, Kouzou Hadou, left off. She is the owner of Demonbane, and is often annoyed that Kurou and Al Azif are able to pilot it while she cannot.

* BadassNormal

to:

Ruri's butler and bodyguard. Winfield is constantly at her side and ready to assist. He is an astonishingly powerful fighter, even capable of matching up against Black Lodge's Anticross.
----
* BadassNormalBadassNormal: No grimoire, no sorcery. Just super reflexes and super strength honed over years of intense training.

The founder and leader of Black Lodge. Referred to as the Beast or the Antichrist, and undisputably the most powerful sorceror in the world. He is so secretive that many believe his existence to be nothing but a myth. He tends to view everything going on around him with disinterest and extreme boredom. He serves as Kurou's rival and the primary antagonist of the story. His grimoire is Etheldreda, the ''Pnakotic Manuscripts'', and his Deus Machina is Liber Legis.
----

* [[spoiler:WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds]]WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Despite his incredible evil, it's hard not to feel at least a little bad for him after you learn his past and his motivations.

The oldest grimoire, the ''Pnakotic Manuscripts'', in the service of Master Therion. Nearly as powerful as Al Azif, but utterly devoted to her master, she rarely allows any kind of emotion to show on her face.

----

* [[spoiler:TogetherInDeath: In the end, she and Master Therion are reunited after death at the end of the first game.]]

to:

* [[spoiler:TogetherInDeath: In TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler:In the end, she and Master Therion are reunited after death at the end of the first game.]]

A crazed genius inventor working for Black Lodge. His main hobby is creating "Destroyer Robots" with which to terrorize Arkham City. He also rides motorcycles and plays electric guitar. He fancies himself Kurou's rival, but in truth is more of a nuisance than an actual threat, although he does have his moments.

----

* [[spoiler:HeelFaceTurn]]

Added DiffLines:

A combat gynoid built by Doctor West. She is fully intelligent and even seems to be capable of feeling emotion, leaving most characters stunned that West is actually smart enough to have built something like her. While she remains loyal to Doctor West, she quickly falls in love with Kurou... sort of.

----

Added DiffLines:

An Anticross sorceror, dressed like a clown and constantly wearing a mask that changes expression depending on his mood. Tiberius is sadist, rapist, murderer, and all-around completely abhorrent person. His power primarily comes from the fact that he's immortal: his body is a constantly rotting corpse, but thanks to his sorcery he does not die no matter how much damage he takes. He wields the power of ''De Vermis Mysteris'', and his Deus Machina is Beelzebuth.

----

Added DiffLines:

An Anticross sorceror modelling himself after the samurai. His greatest wish is to find a powerful opponent that can give him the battle of a lifetime, and is inhumanly skilled with his dual katana. He wields the grimoire ''Cultes de Goules'', and his Deus Machina is Ogre.

----

Added DiffLines:

An Anticross sorceror, and one of the most senior members. Vespasianus prefers to manipulate things from the background and have underlings carry out tasks for him, though he isn't afraid of doing the dirty work himself if it's necessary. He previously headed the "Moonchild Project". His grimoire is ''The Book of Eibon'' and his Deus Machina is Cykranosh.

----

Added DiffLines:

An Anticross sorceror, Caligula is a huge man possessed of immense strength. He speaks very strangely, altering the emphasis of his words in odd places. He typically deals with sheer brute force, which he is certainly not lacking. Usually teamed up with Claudius. His grimoire is ''Cthaat Aquadingen'', and his Deus Machina is Kraken.
----

Added DiffLines:

An Anticross sorceror, he is apparently the youngest of the group. He is violent and impulsive, and wields the power of Hastur. Often teamed up with Caligula. His grimoire is the ''Celeano Fragments'', and his Deus Machina is Lord Byakhee.
---

Added DiffLines:

An Anticross sorceror, and the ''de facto'' leader of the group. He mostly serves as Master Therion's lieutenant, delegating orders to the rest of the Anticross. Despite this, he is a formidable sorceror himself. His grimoire is ''The Golden Bough'', and his Deus Machina is Legacy of Gold.
----

Added DiffLines:

Formerly an Anticross sorceress. Nero has the appearance of a young girl, but such was her personality that she was known primarily as "The Tyrant". Her power far exceeds that of the rest of the Anticross, and she is considered comparable in ability to Master Therion himself. After she rebelled against Black Lodge's designs, they locked her away with great difficulty, as she still has a large role to play in their plans. Her grimoire is ''Unaussprechlichen Kulten'', and her Deus Machina is the Nameless One.

----

Added DiffLines:

One of the results of Vespasianus' Moonchild Project, Sandalphon has the appearance of a black angel. His one and only goal is to fight to the death with Metatron, Arkham City's "Angel of Justice", whom he harbors a deep hatred for.
----

Added DiffLines:

A mysterious woman who appears before Kurou and Master Therion, and seems to be manipulating everything from the shadows. Her goals are unclear, but she is clearly more than she seems and is not someone to be trifled with.
