* ForWantOfANail: The Royal Guard seemingly does not exist in DELTARUNE, nor does any indication that the monsters were ever sealed in the Underground. Because of these differences, multiple returning characters are now in different real-world situations that change their outlook significantly.

* ForWantOfANail: As the Dreemurrs are just regular citizens in this incarnation instead of being highly-respected royalty, Asgore barely receives any help from what would've been supportive citizens of his kingdom in ''Undertale'', resulting in him having to survive through a terrible living situation with an upcoming eviction if he doesn't pay his bills in time.

* AmbiguousSituation: The winking nod he makes when telling Kris he's never met them before, the lack of any changes to his character design, the fact that his theme from the original game returns in Chapter 2[[note]]one of only two ''Undertale'' tracks to be outright reused in Chapter 2 (and thusly ''Deltarune'' as a whole); the other is "Determination", which cameos for a brief FissionMailed gag[[/note]], and the original Sans' references to alternate universes and originally being from somewhere; all these seem to point towards ''something'' more going on with him than a simple ForWantOfANail job change like the other returning characters.

* ForWantOfANail: It's implied that Kris participated in a similar [[NoodleIncident burger-running operation]] in his stead, albeit successfully.

* ForWantOfANail: In ''Deltarune'', there's no Royal Guard, so Papyrus never has a goal that drives him forward; that is, becoming a famous member of the Royal Guard. Thus, he becomes much more of a shut-in than he was in ''Undertale''.

* ForWantOfANail: As Alphys is just a high school teacher in this incarnation instead of an accomplished engineer, she lacks the skills that would have built their confidence-boosting robot body. Thus, they remain the morose homebody their ''Undertale'' incarnation was alluded to have once been.

* ForWantOfANail: As Undyne is just a police officer in this incarnation instead of the Captain of the Royal Guard, she lacks any reason to have a training dummy to riddle with spears. Likewise, while Alphys is still a ''Mew Mew Kissy Cutie'' fan (albeit preferring the SequelSeries here), she's not shown as having any figurines to leave lying around for a ghost to possess. Thus, the mad housemate remains without a body to call their own.

** For an entire Christmas-themed monster family, Rudy lists off "Santa Claus" as one of the many things Noelle's frightened of. Even odder is that she's still attracted to one of Poppup's ads about "[[CovertPervert Hot Female Santas In Your Area]]."

* LogicalLatecomer: When she joins Kris as a GuestStarPartyMember in Cyber City and has her first battle against a Virovirokun, she's completely confused by what's happening and has no idea what to do. Kris and the Virovirokun will temporarily call a truce to explain to her the mechanisms of an encounter.[[note]]It's possible to miss this interaction if you don't have Noelle ACT.[[/note]] She's still visibly perplexed when she's suddenly in a nurse's outfit and holding a tray of tea, immediately tripping and falling on her face.

* MeaningfulName: As part of her character's very strong Christmas motif, Noelle comes from ''Noël'', which is French for "Christmas"[[note]]In fact, the masculine Noël and the feminine Noelle are actual first names in French-speaking countries, although they are rarely given precisely because they are derived from the French word for Christmas.[[/note]]. To compound it, her last name is "Holiday". Meanwhile, her father's name is Rudolph, after one of the nine reindeer that is said to pull Santa's magic sleigh.

* StealthPun: Observing her wristwatch in the Light World describes it as "stuck before half-past noon", which is 12:30 PM. It's implied to be set to 12:25 PM, keeping up with her Christmas theme.
