* NiceJobBreakingItHero: While Lord Gwyn is heavily implied to have unintentionally caused most of the problems that plague Lordran, [[spoiler: Banishing Jar-Eel to the north prevented the full eradication of the Darkwraiths as the Sealers intended]].
* RemovedAchillesHeel: [[spoiler:His TrueFinalBoss fight as the Lord of Sunlight cannot be parried]].

* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLBybw-IJ5U "Gwyn, Lord of Cinder"]], a melancholic piano piece that initially doesn't sound fitting for a FinalBoss, but makes sense once you learn about [[DefiantToTheEnd what motivates him still]] [[AndIMustScream despite his age-long suffering]]. [[spoiler:When fighting him as the Lord of Sunlight, it becomes [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9dNrmGD7mU Soul of Cinder]].]]
* LightningBruiser: Gwyn is unbelievably fast, unrelenting, powerful, and deadly with his greatsword, traits that are put on display in the player's [[FinalBoss final fight]] against him. [[spoiler:His Lord of Sunlight form is also this, but is also more dangerous.]]
* MasterSwordsman: The only one who can come even close to rivaling him is [[TheBerserker Artorias]]. He shows you just how dangerous he can be with it when you fight him [[spoiler:in both Lord of Cinder and Lord of Sunlight form]].

The Goddess first of Sin. It is her duty to oversee those who have sinned the dead, a literal mountain of corpses, and administer Leader of the proper punishment.Gravelord Servant Covenant. His Lord Soul granted him power over Death, and he functions as the Grim Reaper. After the great war against the dragons, he was content with laying dormant in his domain while death and misery spread over Lordran. Nito himself resides in a massive coffin deep within the Tomb of the Giants.

Leader of the Lords, King of Anor Londo, and father of the Gods of Light. He led the Age of Fire, ruling over man from Anor Londo in Lordran. His Lord Soul granted him power over Sunlight and Lightning.
----

* BoltOfDivineRetribution[=/=]ShockAndAwe: What he used against the ancient stone dragons to [[ArmorPiercingAttack pierce their scales]]. [[spoiler:While he uses this in the TrueFinalBoss fight against him, you can acquire up to three spells to use this yourself, the third version requiring Gwyn's Soul to obtain it.]]
* CallForward: [[spoiler:The theme that plays when you fight him as the Lord of Sunlight is called [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9dNrmGD7mU Soul of Cinder]], which the titular boss uses a souped up version of his moveset in VideoGame/DarkSoulsIII]].
* DestructiveSavior: Potentially. Gywn's actions to prevent the fading of the First Flame saved the world as we know it, but the world wasn't exactly in great shape and has only gotten worse. Ultimately it's a matter of personal opinion whether it would have been better or worse to simply let everything end. People's lives are now full of oppressive misery and despair, but are they so bad it would have been better that they had never been born? [[spoiler:This comes back to bite him back during his time as the Lord of Sunlight, as the Chosen Undead under Velka's pact slays him for his sins.]]
* FatalFlaw: Gywn had a fierce fear of the end coming to his kingdom and works. Much of Gywn's impact on the world was born of his desire to stave off the end as long as possible. In particular, his fear of the Dark as the harbinger of that end spurred a lot of his actions, for good or ill. [[spoiler:This is perhaps why Velka considers him a sinner, as his fear of the dark unintentionally turned Lordran into the CrapsackWorld it is]].
* FinalBoss: Defeating him leads you to start a [[NewGamePlus new gameplay cycle]]. [[spoiler:If you've made a pact with Velka, you can fight his Lord of Sunlight form as the TrueFinalBoss.]]
* GodIsDead: After Gwyn's departure for the Kiln of the First Flame, Anor Londo began to see a shift in leadership, with nearly every deity leaving Lordran save for Gwyndolin. He is not met until the very end of the final dungeon, where it turns out he has become Hollow as a result of burning in the Kiln all this time. [[spoiler:And his Lord of Sunlight form can even be potentially [[KillTheGod killed by you]] under certain circumstances.]]

The Goddess of Sin. It is her duty to oversee those who have sinned and administer the proper punishment.
----

* AntiMagic: Linked to Occult enchantments (the kind that are specifically designed to destroy gods and divine servants).
* CleverCrows: Most of her usable items are Intelligence-linked ''and'' found in a place with a lot of crows and crow-like beings. [[spoiler:In fact, she's actually the crow that transported you to Firelink Shrine.]]
* TheDreaded: Even the gods fear her, for not even they are above her judgment.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Velka has a heavy association with Dark, but nothing suggest that she's evil. If anything, she's a force of divine judgement upon wrongdoers as well as forgiveness to those who open themselves up to her. In fact, making a pact with her gives you the opportunity to punish sinners to open up a path to the TrueFinalBoss.
* OddJobGods: She's the goddess of sin -- recording it, weighing it and righting it; be that, apparently, through retribution or atonement. At a price.
