While Connor technically is a prison inmate, his only crime is being an abnormal person with supernatural powers.

Natalie at least tries to respect Connor as a person who needs personal space; while Steth doesn't, as she seems to objectify him and regularly steps on his boundaries. It's no wonder why Connor reciprocates Natalie's love for him; while he sees Steth as just a weird friend at best, understandably having little patience for her more overbearingly clingy personality.

** Perhaps the most obvious way is their physical appearances; Steth looks and dresses much more femininely, while Hope wears a long trenchcoat and turtleneck which hides most of her features. They also serve very different (gender) roles; with Steth being TheMedic who largely stays away from the action, while Hope is more of an ActionGirl who joins the men whenever they search for supplies or fight with rival tribes and IKEA monsters.
