* AdaptationalBadass: In ''Manga/JojosBizarreAdventurePhantomBlood'', Robert E. O. Speedwagon was a normal human. While he did [[IJustWantToBeBadass desire to learn Hamon]], he didn't have the potential or talent for it, and instead relied on both his street-smarts and his [[DropTheHammer sledgehammer]] to save the day. Here, Speedwagon's expertise as a thief and gang leader are given more emphasis, becoming a CombatPragmatist who uses both the environment and various tools/weapons in his arsenal to gain an advantage over his foes. He also gained the ability to use Ripples and PsychicPowers, both which increased in strength ''tremendously'' when he Ascended to godhood much later in his life. * BadassCape: In his mortal youth, he wore an Inverness cloak that was outfitted with hidden pockets and compartments to hold various weapons and gadgets. As he got older, however, he switched to a [[BadassLongcoat trench coat instead]]. Later, following his Ascension and eldritch transformation, he starts wearing a hooded cloak made of skies, which showcases just how powerful and otherworldly he became.
* BadassLongcoat: In his old age, he started wearing a trench coat instead of the Inverness cape he wore in his youth. This ends up being downplayed as while he's still an experienced fighter, years of neglecting his combat skills in favor of running his company and raising his honorary family led to him not being as powerful as he used to be, as shown with his [[CurbstompCushion fight]] with [[FallenHero a treacherous Straight Path]].
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: A huge reason why he gradually fell in love with Gifted Goldstar is because the latter, for all his flaws, had consistently shown him kindness while everyone else outside his gang dismissed him as a "dirty vagrant" or street thug. It also played a part in his eventual HeelFaceTurn. Sadly, due to homosexuality being massively frowned upon at the time, Gifted wouldn't reciprocate his feelings until three Ages (i.e. tens of thousands of years) later, after Gifted realized the social standards he grew up with were bigoted, sexist, and toxic.
* BenevolentBoss: In stark contrast to Dio, an abusive BadBoss who terrorized, indoctrinated, and even molested his own minions, he treated his own subordinates quite well, whether as a criminal gang leader or the founding CEO of one of the biggest companies in Known History. After Dio's death, he worked on rehabilitating Dio's surviving ex-followers and apparently recruited some of them, like Hol Horse. Even before his HeelFaceTurn, he cared a lot for his gang -- so much that he swore revenge when he learned Dio's zombies decimated them to a few survivors.
* BewareTheQuietOnes: Having gone through hell over the Ages, including a very traumatic EldritchTransformation, he became fairly quiet and reserved. He is also presently an eldritch god with sheer, incomprehensible power, and it's noted he can be genuinely terrifying when enraged. Being an adoptive son of one of the Grand Primevals helps.

This is eventually averted when Gifted himself comes BackFromTheDead as an Alicorn, creating a series of events that ends with him forming a romantic polycule with Gifted and Shining.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: One of his flaws is that his desire to help people is so strong, he is willing to [[{{Workaholic}} work himself to the bone]] just to ensure even one life is saved. * CoolOldGuy: While he aged somewhat gracefully thanks to his [[KiManipulation Ripple power]], he still visibly aged due to years of disuse. And by that point, he had become the kind, empathetic, and benevolent CEO of the Speedwagon Foundation -- which is a complete contrast to his [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold younger self]].
* CurbstompCushion: While he still fared badly against a [[TranshumanTreachery self-vampirized]], post-FaceHeelTurn Straight Path due to neglecting his combat skills, he put up a ''much'' better fight compared to canon, even permanently scarring Straight Path for his treachery despite knowing the latter possessed a strong HealingFactor.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: According to him, his foalhood was similar to Dio Brando's -- he grew up in abject poverty, with an abusive father and a kind mother who eventually died from her husband's mistreatment. Unlike Dio, he came from an ancient noble family that had fallen on hard times by his generation, with his father being an EntitledBastard who believed his aristocratic lineage made him entitled to everything. His mother tried escaping his father with him, but a passing noble refused to help them out of elitism, which enabled his father to catch and drag them back. Following his mother's death, he ran away again, but focused on hiding from his father and became a thief to survive. A small gang of criminals, the Ogre St. Devils, found and took him in, and the rest was history.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: He was originally a hardened gang leader and street thug until he met Gifted Goldstar, who had just beaten up his thugs in retaliation for their mugging attempts (and was looking for a cure for his poisoned father). A fight ensued, but while he gave Gifted a hard time, he was ultimately defeated yet spared. Shocked by Gifted's genuine act of mercy, he proceeded to help Gifted find the antidote, and the rest was history.
* DeityOfHumanOrigin: He was originally an Earth Pony who eventually Ascended to godhood after training under Luminiferous and Golden Scepter's wings for many years. While he ends up [[EldritchTransformation going even further]] during the "Abyssal War", he doesn't re-Ascend like Moon Ray Vaughoof did since it required drastic changes in one's divine nature, and he stubbornly clung to his core beliefs to avoid being corrupted by the Abyssal Ones.
* DetectEvil: As in canon, he has the ability to detect a person's evil by smell, which is explained here as clairalience, a scent-based form of clairvoyance. Following his Ascension, especially after his eldritch transformation, he could penetrate interdimensional barriers and detect scents beyond Equusian comprehension.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: During the "Abyssal War", the [[EldritchAbomination Abyssal Ones]] tried corrupting him by showing him [[HumansAreBastards every single act of evil sapientkind has done since the dawn of their creation]], hoping the truth would [[GoMadFromTheRevelation drive him mad]]. Fortunately, it doesn't work as he resisted by stubbornly clinging to his beliefs in sapientkind's collective inner goodness.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: The Abyssal Ones' attempts to corrupt him by showing him all of sapientkind's evils fail utterly because of his beliefs in sapientkind's inner goodness, and he attacked the Abyssal Ones head-on. While it's not known whether he devoured the Abyssal Ones or merely absorbed their postmortem essences, he nonetheless came out of the fight an eldritch god of sheer, incomprehensible power.
* DisabledInTheAdaptation: Unlike canon Speedwagon, the Codexverse version of him suffers from a load of psychological issues -- including [[ShellShockedVeteran PTSD]] from fighting various threats like Dio Brando and the Abyssal Ones, [[HeroicSelfDeprecation low self-esteem]], and a notable GuiltComplex over his perceived failures to save his loved ones from the aforementioned threats.
