** Yu-yu is a expy of [[Anime/CardfightVanguard Aichi Sendou]] in many aspects but at the same time their are contrast ms between them. Aichi had a good relationship with his younger sister Emi while Yu-yu is more of a doormat towards his older sisters. Aichi had a connection with Vanguard before he became a player while Yu-yu never had any connection to Vanguard until he became a cardfighter. In terms of skill, Aichi had to go through a lot of training and various powerful opponents to become the top fighter he became at the end of his series, while Yu-yu is more or less an InstantExpert at the game. Aichi’s favorite card is Blaster Blade, a Grade 2 unit that is already strong on its own and embodies Aichi's ideal image of strength, while Yu-yu’s is Trickstar, a Grade 0 unit with the ability to evolve with overDress, representing Yu-yu's potential and desire to become stronger.
** Both Yu-yu and [[Anime/CardfightVanguardG Chrono Shindou]] are experts in cooking. While Chrono was an orphan who was raised by his aunt, Yu-yu lives with his parents and sisters. In terms of personality, Chrono started off as a stoic, rash and aloof individual who took time to open up to his teammates and frequently clashed with them, while Yu-yu is a timid and very polite individual who gets along well with his teammates as soon as he meets them.

** Both Ren and Tohya used to be kinder individuals with a love for the game, but after losing to one of the main characters, (Kai and Danji respectively), they developed an obsession with defeating them, seeking out power and becoming cold hearted and cruel in the process. While Ren’s StartOfDarkness was due to his Psyqualia awakening and corrupting him, Tohya’s was done of his own volition. Ren desired to defeat Kai to prove his superiority over him, while Tohya wanted to defeat Danji so he could move on with his life and forget about Vanguard. Ren manages to defeat Kai, but loses to Aichi afterwards, while Tohya defeats Yu-yu, but loses to Danji afterwards, but manages to finally defeat him after multiple back to back losses. And while Ren still had Tetsu and Asaka by the end of the season and goes on the reform AL4, Tohya is abandoned by Masanori, but [[spoiler: is made Team Blackout’s new leader after Danji retires]].
** Shion and Tohya both come from rich families, have a lot of expectations placed on them, and use Vanguard as a way to feel free. While Shion is able to divide his time between school, his families company, and Vanguard, Tohya got so absorbed into the game that it completely absorbed everything else in his life with he even stating that it is all he has left.
