* DirtyCoward[=/=]GetBackHereBoss: DirtyCoward: Gary spends the first half of the "Final Confrontation" running away from Jimmy, attempting to throw bricks at Jimmy, and drop construction equipment on him as Jimmy climbs a ladder, all the while gloating about how he outsmarted Jimmy and how easy and fun it is to manipulate people. In the last confrontation, first chapter of the game, Gary leads you up is shown bullying Algie and Petey, archetypal victims of bullying in Bullworth and they are both shown to be weak and unpopular in the dilapidated bell tower, hoping you'll slip academy. In the fight against him, Gary is shown to have a similar fighting style to the Bullies, ultimately showing that Gary is simply a braggart who can't fight his own battles and fall. He IShallTauntYou fires some taunts has to rely on others to either back him up or fight for him by tricking them into doing so. It's also worth noting that he tells Jimmy to avoid the Jocks and turns over wheelbarrows full of cement blocks chooses to sit and watch as Jimmy uses a slingshot on them from above.a tree, showing that he recognizes them as a threat.

* HypocriteHasAPoint: Although a sneaky and manipulative bastard in his own right, he was right in the end that Jimmy should be wary of the Nerds as they were shown to be sneaky, vengeful, and unscrupulous in their rivalry against the jocks.

* BullyingADragon: In an early mission, he thinks is a good idea to bully a nearby hobo by the gates (who happened to be a war veteran) seeing him as an easy target. Unsurprisingly, the hobo easily scares him (and Pete) away when said hobo displays aggression.

* NoHistoricalFiguresWereHarmed: While never confirmed he bears some concerning similarities to Eric Harris of UsefulNotes/Columbine notoriety. Like Gary, Harris was an outsider-turned-bully, used his social skills to manipulate authorities and peers, had his own self-serving beliefs regarding the strong and weak, and admired the Nazis, taking pride in all these characteristics, too. The fact that both are aspiring mass-murderers also probably helps.

* TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: More like "The First of These" as they're the first clique Jimmy faces, but it still counts. Out of all of the cliques, they fit the format the least, as they have no dodgeball team, no exclusive female character, no exclusive challenge to unlock more turf, no graffiti insults about them, seemingly nobody that can be seen as second-in-command, and they don't respect the campus' social hierarchy. They appear to just be a group of friends who have banded together under Russell's leadership, as they are known as "The Bullies", "Russell and his boys", and "Russell's crew", further proving that they are a more aggressive version of non-clique students. They're also the only clique that does not turn on Jimmy during the events of Chapter 5.

* GreaterScopeVillain: Although it's never said outright in the game, Mr. Burton is actually responsible for the Jocks being so bloodthirsty as it is rumored that he's been giving them steroids and he outright says to Jimmy that he encourages bullying within the Jocks because it builds character and makes men. Then there's the fact that he had Zoe expelled after she tried to report him for sexually harassing her.

* ThinSkinnedBully: Averted hard. Despite what their methods may tell you, as noted above BoisterousWeakling, should any clique member wander into their turf they'll happily pick on them despite said clique member being capable of easily handing them their asses. This shows that despite mainly picking on those weaker than them, they're not cowards and will not hesitate to harass even experienced fighters just because they can.

* CarryABigStick: "The Tenements" ends with a showdown with Norton -- and his sledgehammer, but not just any kind of sledgehammer, one with a massive head. This would be a good time to load the slingshot and run.

** As noted in an interview with writer Dan Houser, Jimmy might be a troubled kid but would never grow up to be a violent criminal like other GTA protagonists due to his white-collar background and would instead mellow out with age.

* VileVillainSaccharineShow: In a world that wouldn't be out of place in a SliceOfLife or TeenDrama, Gary Smith stands out as a particularly sadistic, sociopathic, and manipulative young man. He's essentially the dangerous psychopath or mobster in his teenage years. It's telling that even the other students know he's a sociopath, so they go to great lengths to avoid any form of association or interaction with him.

* ObviouslyEvil: He bullies Petey in front of Jimmy, leads the trio in causing trouble, verbally abuses his friends, dressed as a nazi for Halloween, openly talks about a big plan, and he has a scar on his face with an [=SS=] haircut. The only way he'd more obvious as a villain would be if he had the words "Definitely won't stab you in the back" emblazoned on his sweater vest. Granted, this may have been a result of his [=ADHD=] since he's too excited about his plans to control himself and he's deliberately refusing to take his medication.

Not a notable aversion.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: Nope. Averted. There is no line that he seems unwilling to cross. Even in the last fight with him, it's unknown whether he was chucking things at Jimmy to wear him down for a fistfight or send him flying off the roof of the building.
