* AbusiveParents: Of the emotional variety. The poor kid only played soccer and got better at it because he wanted to please his parents. But it turns out they only conceived Hiroi in order to live through him because both of them are former atheletes who always scored second in life and want to experience being 1st place by proxy. His parents, got into frequent fights about raising Hiori "wrong" and threatened to divorce each other if he didn't become a gold medal worthy player with Hiroi overhearing one particulary nasty fight and hearing all of this. When Hiori fell down the stairs as a result and hurt his foot, rather than acknowledging that their arguing inadvertently hurt their son, they panicked about his "worth" being affected. Hiori, at a young age, realized that his parents saw him as a ''tool'', not a person. After this his motivation for playing soccer then changed from pleasing his parents to simply trying to keep his family together. In the current story, Hiori has grown so sick of his parents that he can no longer stand their company and joined Blue Lock simply to ''get away from them''.

In the current story, Hiori has grown so sick of his parents that he can no longer stand his parents company, going to Blue Lock to simply ''get away from them''.

* MommasBoy: Bachira loves his mother dearly, confiding his fears and concerns to her when he was shunned by his fellow peers for his "weirdness". She in turn, comforted him and voices out confidence that one day he'll find his inner "voice" and find a friend who will share his love for soccer.

** A really skilled and strong football player who quickly establishes himself as the star of Team X that the rest of the team decides to organize and follow behind as they easily beat Team X. The ''Episode Nagi'' spinoff makes it clear that Baro's X teammates came to hate his solo play, and tried to play the rest of the First Selection games without him. However, Baro continued to score goals in losing efforts, which resulted in him far outscoring the rest of the team to be the one X player who moved on to the Second Selection.

* HollywoodHomely: In Episode Nagi, a few girls describe him as "sloppy looking" and wonder why someone like Reo would associate with him. One brief glance at any fanart of him shows that much of the audience believes the opposite to be true. His permanent bed-head doesn't look very out of place since odd hairstyles are something of a norm in anime/manga. Add to this his physique, big eyes, and in the adaptation soft voice, and you have fans being gobsmacked at the idea that he's meant to be ugly.

* HiddenDepths: Rin's favorite animal are owls as revealed in the Blue Lock Twitter's Trivia and Q&A.

Being the obvious top scorer of Team X, Baro eventually gets to move on to the Second Selection. From there, Baro tends to be one of Blue Lock's more noteworthy strikers as he ends up developing an unpredictable play-style that revolves around surprising everyone on the football field by suddenly [[TokenEvilTeammate stealing the ball from his teammates]].

* TheAce: Before joining Blue Lock, he was the star player of the Rajitsu Tech football team, much to the jealousy of his teammates, the Wanima brothers.

* ADayInTheLimelight: Treated as a ButtMonkey all throughout the Blue Lock vs. U-20 Japan match, Sendo finally gets a moment in chapter 141 where he manages to make a big save blocking Bachira's shot at the open goal.

This all culminates to the two having just as much screen time and importance as the main four Team Z players (Isagi, Bachira, Kunigami and Chigiri) and eventually receiving a spin-off centered about them with Reo as the {{Deuteragonist}}.

* {{Backstory}}: A brief flashback is seen of Kunigami as a young kid watching football on his home television. It's here that Kunigami gained his love for football watching real life "superheroes" win it all for their team.

* ParentalTitleCharacterization: More like [[JapaneseSiblingTerminology sibling title characterization]]. Rin normally refers to his brother as ''Nii-chan'', but as their relationship turns South, he switches to ''Aniki'' or just call Sae by his name outright, which is noticeably more distant.
