* KnowWhenToFoldEm: He's shown to be careful not to overtax the CCAF, even with the Confederation's dominant position in the Inner Sphere. He refrained from continuing conflicts with both the Republic of the Sphere and the Federated Suns when he was concerned that doing so would overextend his forces.

* KickedUpstairs: What his original assignment to the 1st Davion Guards was supposed to be, as he was in his uncle and then-First Prince Harrison's bad books due to getting declared ''persona non grata'' in the Lyran Commonwealth, and the 1st Guards were considered the [[RagtagBunchOfMisfits poor relation of the Guards Brigade]] at the time; Julian turned it into ReassignmentBackfire by treating it as a real job rather than just a sinecure posting for the First Prince's no-good nephew.

** In the aftermath of Operation CERBERUS, much of the AFFS's high command seriously questioned Julian's abilities as a general because of the high casualties the AFFS suffered and how many mercenaries he recruited. They forced him to give up command of the Federated Suns' war effort to Prince's Champion Erik Sandoval-Groell, although he remains First Prince and the Suns' overall ruler.

* GeneralFailure: A subverted and downplayed example. He oversaw Operation CERBERUS, the effort to reconquer the Federated Suns' capital worlds, and it ended in success. Unfortunately, the heavy casualties the AFFS suffered and the number of mercenaries Julian used led much of the AFFS high command to question his abilities as a general. They forced him to yield overall command to Erik Sandoval-Groell. Their relationship is tense because of Erik's openly criticizing Julian's past mistakes and Julian noticing Erik's public popularity, which could potentially allow him to seize the Federated Suns' throne.

* AntiHero: Played with, depending on the characters and the writer. But let's face it - as much as the Fed Suns can be a bunch of hypocritical, self righteous jackasses, they're surrounded by absolutely brutal, merciless police states that are surely a darker shade of grey.
