Timid, cautious and relatively weak, he prefers to observe and collect data on Koro-sensei's weaknesses rather than participate in assassination attempts. A deliquent who is not very fond of the idea to kill his monster teacher. One of the more aloof students until he TookALevelInKindness. After finding his enthusiasm to kill Koro-sensei with the class, his talent of encouraging and motivating people has been revealed. * TheBigGuy: Does not have talent in assassination. But in Koro-sensei's words, he's had an amazing potential as an operational type assassin, he shines on physical strength and an ability to (and encourage others to) make things done.

* TheChessmaster: He's an extremely skilled strategist. For example, the tag game ''Robbers and Cops'' which he plays together with the class and Karasuma-sensei. He and Karasuma-sensei are the cops and have to tag the class within an hour, but Koro-sensei has the given handicap to be in "jail" until the last minute. The students underestimate Karasuma-sensei's extreme skills, and they realize that Koro-sensei's handicap is even his advantage, since nobody can tag out the "arrested" students as long he's in the "jail".

* ArcVillain: In chapters 50 to 54. [He returns to this role in chapter 90 to 94.

** BadassCrew[=/=]TrueCompanions: It took awhile but the whole class makes up a BadassCrew now. They really care about each other and get along well. If you mess with one of them, the whole class and their teacher(s) will aim for you. Such moments include ganging up against Class A for messing with Maehara, and more recently [[spoiler: working together to defeat Class A in the pole match, in order to stop Asano from telling the school that Isogai has been breaking the school rules by having a part-time job.]]

** Sugaya is "[[MadArtist Artsy Bean Pole]]".

** Hayami is "Tsundere Sniper".

* ADayInTheLimelight: Due to LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters, most of the students don't stand out that much, since Nagisa, Kayano and Karma get the most focus. However, there are many chapters who focus a bit on the other students. For specifics, see at the respective character sections.

* MuggingTheMonster: Whenever one of the regular students try to bully someone from Class E it never ends well for them. They're lucky if they only end up fleeing in fear for their lives.

* TheAce: Even before he [[spoiler: trounced Takaoka]] he was the only normal human to threaten Koro-sensei to the point where he had to use his molting ability. He is also readily acknowledged as being the go-to guy for information and analysis.
* AmbiguousDisorder: There is ''something'' off about him. He isn't intimidated by having to wield a potentially deadly weapon or having to threaten someone's life, even though it's specifically pointed out that he should be. Yet he isn't generally callous or manipulative in the way a sociopath would be. He just has no compunction against killing for some reason, like you'd expect of a veteran hitman. Except he isn't one, yet.
** He is supposed to be intimidated by the thought of using a real knife, but not only does he show no hesitation, he is clear-minded enough to attack using the dull side of the blade.
** His interaction with Karma in the early chapters are also not quite ordinary. Most people would be rather disturbed by Karma's AxCrazy passion of killing his teacher, but Nagisa remained calm the whole time, he didn't comment on Karma's ideas and he didn't show any reaction to Karma's crazy behavior. Nagisa's facial expression was telling like neutral wondering whether Karma would succeed or not. In short, Nagisa just acted like a neutral observer.

* AttractiveBentGender: He only needs to put on a skirt and some HairDecs to pass off as a really convincing girl, and even catches a guy's attention like this.

* BadassAdorable: The shortest and most androgynous of the male students. He cemented his status as one of Class 3-E's biggest badasses when he [[spoiler: destroyed Takaoka in a knife duel--with a ''real'' knife]].

* FirstNameBasis: Everyone calls him by his given name. Really everyone.

* AnimeHair: Subverted. She seems to have cat-ears-looking hairstyle, but it's shown not to be natural.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Okano's reaction to Kayano being not disgusted by Yada's big boobs.

A boy who is talented in baseball. It is known he has a crush on Kanzaki. 3rd best knife work, boys' side.

* ShounenHair

A student who joined late due to being suspended from school for trashing his teacher's office. He started off holding a major grudge against all teachers, and as such is one of the students most dedicated to the assassination. Koro-sensei helped him get over that particular issue, but he is still a near-sociopath who loves to beat people into unconsciousness.

* ALessonInDefeat: [[spoiler:His scores slip during the first term finals because he was arrogant about his intelligence and didn't study hard enough to succeed with the increased difficulty.]] Fortunately, he takes the lesson to heart, and starts working much harder from then on.

* BitingTheHandkerchief: He isn't crying, and it isn't played for laughs, but biting his [[spoiler: test papers]] is a clear sign of how upset he is by [[spoiler: failing to beat Asano Jr. in the math portion of the first term finals, and on top of that performing worse than in the mid terms when class E had a handicap]].

* FirstNameBasis: Most of his classmates, as well as Koro-sensei, call him by his first name.
* {{Foil}}: Gakushuu Asano might be one being set up for him, seeing as both students are the strongest of their respective classes. The fact that [[spoiler: Karma lost to him during the final exams]] really got to him.

* ADayInTheLimelight: Chapter 7. And later a little bit in chapter 51 to 53, along with Nakamura, Isogai and Kanzaki.

* FantasyForbiddingFather[=/=]TranquilFury: Her father is an strict, stern man who despises her attitude and prohibits her anything he thinks may be detrimental to her high status. [[AllThereInTheManual In the volume 03 extras]], her father yells at her and orders her to change her behavior, but she refuses to obey him and states that she's determined to keep going. In the volume 04 extras, her father chews her out (again) and demands she pursues a career in law, which he considers the right path for someone of her status. At that point, Kanzaki [[FlippingtheBird flips him off]], tells him that she wants to become a caretaker and that's final. All with a calm smile in her face.

* TheLeader: Type II and IV. Like Isogai, she's a charismatic person, but she's also noted for having a good leadership and command.

* TheStoic: She is the most calm and most serious girl. Even when a bullet nearly hits her head, she tries not to freak out. She's also one of the few students who doesn't have comical expressions.

* RealMenCanCook: His family has a ramen restaurant, but the ramen tastes bad. He knows it, but he has to cook with his father's recipes.

* OpaqueLenses: We never see his eyes through his glasses until the chapter 77 to 79 where he gets the focus.

* EmbarrassingFirstName[=/=]AwesomeMcCoolname: His legal name is [[spoiler: Justice Kimura]], which embarrasses him a lot with all the attention it draws, which is why he tells everyone to call him by his preferred name, Masayoshi. The rest of the class doesn't seem to think it's that bad though.

* HollywoodHacking: She has high hacking skills since she is a AI and she hacked every cell phone of her classmates to download herself, which gives her a mobile version of herself called "Mobile Ritsu", which is very useful for the class. During the Assassination Island arc, she hacks the secure system of the Fukuma Hotel Palace.

** Even after [[spoiler:losing his tentacles]], he retains his TheAce status by being good at studying and a GadgeteerGenius.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: On the wrong side of this trope. Even his fellow Virtuosos, none of them pleasant people, think of him as black-hearted.

* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Receives one from his father in chapter 54 after [[spoiler:losing the bet with Class E. Asano's father mocks his plan to turn him into a pet when he couldn't even win against people his own age.]]

* ArchnemesisDad[=/=]EvilerThanThou: He treats his son pretty much how you'd expect given how he treats his students. His son responds in kind. They have a lot in common.
* [[spoiler:BadassNormal: Effortlessly destroys the four foreign students that his son had called for their physical abilities when they talk back to him.]]

* {{Foil}}: He and Koro-sensei contrast each other greatly. Where Koro-sensei is a monster intent on destroying the world, Asano wants to improve the world through education. Yet strangely, Koro-sensei is goofy, but kind, while Asano is strict and incredibly cruel.
* FollowInMyFootsteps: His son, Gakushuu, is basically like him. They have a ... disturbing relationship, with one intent on keeping the other as a corporate slave and the other treating his father like a pet.

* ManipulativeBastard: Anything he can do to ensure that his system works will be done, from personally teaching the content of an upcoming midterm to all students except Class 3-E to hiring a SadistTeacher to make sure Class 3-E's grades drop dramatically.
