Very soon after, she says that she and her mother played a game by listing purple things; the thing that gave Corinne hope during her journey was a purple columbine, which Corinne had introduced Gwynn to earlier in the book. All this together implies that Gwynn's "sister-brain" may indeed be a thing, though not a seriosu one. The first chapter's ShoutOut to ''{{Literature/Matilda}}'' may also be implying this.
