[[folder:Mara]]
!!Mara
[[quoteright:203:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mara_anime_design.png]]

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/UraraTakano (JP); Creator/AlissaBrodsky (EN–TV), Creator/MariDevon (EN–Mini-Goddess), Loretta Santini (LA Spanish-Mini-Goddess)

A childhood friend of the goddesses who are the main characters, even though she is a demoness. Urd and Mara used to be very good friends, but got separated when Urd chose to be a goddess. Her actual duty is to increase the market share of the demons on earth, though she decides that removing the goddesses will make it one hundred percent. Like her Buddhist namesake, she is generally regarded only as a nuisance; extremely inept, generally failing due to her sheer incompetence, and on some rare occasions she actually helps the goddesses.
----
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Was originally drawn to be pretty sexless in the manga, even once claiming to be Belldandy's fiancé, before being eventually outed as female. As the series went on, her design shifted significantly.
* ButNotTooEvil: The crux of her conflict with the Norns is that their constant presence in Nekomi makes her job more difficult, so she'd like them to return to Heaven. To that end, she's set her sights on breaking up Keiichi and Belldandy. However, she's actually very fond of them (and especially of Urd) even as she's willing to slap them around. Whenever she allies herself with another demon, she's always the lesser of two evils – see The Lord Of Terror, Demon!Urd, Hild – and she attempts to reduce the harm caused whenever the plan goes awry. She always ''fails'' at it, but she tries.
* ButtMonkey: After her debut chapter, she becomes more incompetent and frequently receives the bad end of things. She's not that bad of a demon or even remotely powerless, but her weaknesses were figured out pretty fast. It doesn't help that she and the Norns were friends before being given their tasks.
* CuteLittleFangs: Gets these after ArtEvolution makes her ProgressivelyPrettier.
* EvilLaugh: A very convincing one, which is kinda ironic considering how poor her actual skills are.
* EvilPlan: Increasing the market share of demons is the purpose of her zany schemes. It MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext, if there was any context to begin with.
* GirlinessUpgrade: With the years, she became increasingly more feminine in the manga. Whereas she was largely asexual in the beginning, from the Lord of Terror arc onward she began getting more shapely and with less sharp features. From the arrival of Hild, she also got less malicious as well.
* GoldfishPoopGang: Given the number of times she gets easily discarded by the Goddesses and Banpei, she does qualify.
* GoodHurtsEvil: A mild form; as noted under WeaksauceWeakness, she's hurt by anything that counts as a lucky charm. In one instance, Mara used DemonicPossession on Megumi, and Belldandy was able to drive her out with a cup of tea that had a stalk floating straight up in it. As seen in the chapter where she accidentally stepped on a lucky arrow, human lucky charms aren't enough to kill her, but they can severely hurt her and even give her amnesia.
* HarmlessVillain: She is too goofy to be taken as a serious threat. She was presented as a danger in her early appearances, but suffered heavily from VillainDecay, becoming more of a ButtMonkey, and her plans became less dangerous when the series established that gods and demons have rules against killing each other.
* TheHeavy: She's the most recurring antagonistic figure in the story.
* HiddenBuxom: Her bust was kept well out of sight until Belldandy revealed that Mara is a woman.
* InconsistentSpelling: The official spelling of her name used by Fujishima/Kodansha (and subtitles) is "Marller". The Dark Horse manga translation (and English dub) use "Mara", which is how it's written and pronounced in Japanese.
* InvoluntaryDance: One of her weaknesses. She can't stop dancing (badly) if she hears rock music. [[note]] Disco in the Studio Proteus translation.[[/note]]
* ManipulativeBitch: Invoked many times. She ''tries'' to be this but she's hardly ever successful.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: One of her plans, [[spoiler:involving putting everyone at Nekomi Tech under Sayoko's mind-control (Sayoko's wish) and having her tell the mind-controlled Belldandy to return to Heaven (the payment)]], [[NearVillainVictory almost succeeded]]; it only failed because [[spoiler:Sayoko told Belldandy to return "home", [[ExactWords causing her to return to the temple where she lives with Keiichi]].]] And until Keiichi [[spoiler:returned home and found Belldandy there]], characters and ''the readers'' thought she had won until TheReveal.
* OfCorsetsSexy: Several of her outfits feature this, such as in the second season of the anime.
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: She's very human-like, even compared to her fellow demons. One could argue that her time on Earth has caused her to go native (not unlike Belldandy).
* PrettyFreeloader: Rarely if she's staying with Keiichi and the Goddesses.
* ProgressivelyPrettier: She gets more physically attractive as the series progresses.
* PunchClockVillain: Prevalent in the second season of the anime, where she's even ''helping'' the Goddesses and Keiichi a couple times.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Has them, and is evil (or ''tries'' to be; she doesn't usually succeed).
* RockMeAsmodeus: Inverted, and made into a WeaksauceWeakness. See InvoluntaryDance above.
* VillainDecay: She was a legitimately dangerous villain in her early appearances. Then she was turned into a largely harmless ButtMonkey.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Used to be this with Urd, before the latter went to Heaven to become a goddess.
* WeaksauceWeakness: She's allergic to lucky charms. Usually it just gives her a terrible headache, but contact with one she never touched caused her to faint and [[EasyAmnesia lose her memory]]. Also see InvoluntaryDance above.
* WillfullyWeak: She's far more powerful than it seems, though she holds back (even compared to what she's allowed to do) due Urd being a childhood friend. We have to wait until Hagal's arc to see her cut loose and show just ''what'' she could do in combat if she only wanted.
* ZanyScheme: She frequently comes up with ridiculously convoluted plans and they all fail hilariously. [[spoiler:Well, except for that one time with Sayoko.]]

[[quoteright:267:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hildo_anime.png]]
[[caption-width-right:267:[[labelnote:Click here to see her Avatar form]][[quoteright:215:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ahmygoddesshildkidform.jpg]][[/labelnote]]]]

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/GaraTakashima (JP), Creator/MaryElizabethMcGlynn (EN)

The Queen of Demons who is the opposite to The Almighty, known as the CEO of the Infernal Realm, or "Daimakaicho" (great demon-world leader) in the original Japanese. She is incredibly powerful, with her power dwarfing even the combined strength of the three goddesses. Despite her immense strength, she respects the doublet system, and thus limits her power to prevent killing any of the Goddesses. She is Urd's mother, and she loves her daughter deeply, although Urd does not return the feeling (Urd worries that doing so would mean acknowledging and thus being taken over by her demonic side). Hild displays a similar witty personality to Urd, though she is far more mean-spirited, and shares her daughter's fondness for dressing in revealing outfits. Hild dislikes Belldandy, because Bell's attitude and love for humanity reminds her of Belldandy and Skuld's father and the relationship they once had. Because of this, she has often tried to corrupt or hurt Belldandy several times throughout the series. She also seems to have some feelings for Keiichi Morisato.

After her debut arc, she leaves behind a child-sized avatar of herself, who would go on to become a regular antagonist for the goddesses as well as a direct supervisor for Mara. While this avatar possesses only one-thousandth of Hild's power, it is still enough to make the avatar a powerful enemy for anyone. Despite this, as well as being generally more competent than Mara, she often proves just as inept. In the manga, a small team of demons sealed her main body and attacked her avatar in the human world.
----
* AffablyEvil: Despite being {{Satan}} she's not too bad, especially compared to other demons she keeps in check. So far whenever helping the main characters she's refrained from ever double-crossing them despite her rather mean-spirited temperament. That the head of the gods, Tyr, still loves her is enough to indicate that it'd be misleading to call her truly evil at all. Hild notably doesn't seem to consider herself evil, to her the system that would separate people who love each other is the one in the wrong.
* AmicableExes:
** She and Tyr still love each other very much and it's said that he pines for her so much that even Ansuz (his current wife) worries about him. They don't even seem to consider each other exes, and Hild has devoted her life to undoing the current system so that she and Tyr can be together again.
** She and Ansuz herself are on surprisingly good terms; they're not above beating the crap out each other, though.
* AtLeastIAdmitIt: She had to go through the Gate of Judgement and lost Tyr forever. She's not very happy about it but she went through it fair and square. She is the first to notice that Belldandy [[spoiler:did something funky to be able to stay with Keiichi for so long with them being from different species, so she calls her out on her hypocrisy]].
* BenevolentBoss: Played with. Even though she's not above throwing her lackeys under the bus and kicking them around, she is unequivocally loved by all of them; [[spoiler:they'll even usurp her if that's what it takes to keep her alive]].
* BerserkButton: Do refrain from pointing out the possibility of her pulling a double cross or refusing a deal with her.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: She's more well-endowed than even her daughter, and just like her is considered to be incredibly attractive due to it.
* DeathGlare: Comes part and parcel with her status and power level. Urd is also capable of a similar glare.
* DivineInfernalFamily: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] in that she and Tyr weren't biologically related, but they used to be married and had a daughter together.
* FourStarBadass: She IS the leader of Hell after all.
* GenerationXerox: She's effectively a darker-skinned, taller Urd with a different hairdo and a mean streak. In fact, when she was younger, she [[https://i.imgur.com/2UmUy8N.jpg looked identical to Urd with the only difference being their facial markings]].
* HotAsHell: The demon queen of hell, who takes the form of an attractive, flirtatious woman.
* IGaveMyWord: She says she keeps any deals she makes and has so far refrained from abusing any loopholes. A DealWithTheDevil isn't all that dangerous when it's with her (as long as you don't wish for something too extreme).
* IWantMyMommy: PlayedWith. Urd cannot tell her that she loves her for fear of becoming like her, but that doesn't mean that she cannot care about her mom, [[spoiler:as she cries and lashes out when she learns that her mom would have died had there not been a coup]]. Admitting that much at least won't turn her into a demon.
* KnightOfCerebus: Downplayed compared to most examples. Hild has plenty of comedic moments, but when she acts as an antagonist, unlike Mara she's actually a legimate threat.
* LeonineContract: Hild states that [[spoiler:she had the firm intention of returning the Norns and Keiichi to Earth once Hagal was defeated, but she backs up from the promise to force Belldandy to confess her hypocrisy regarding her relationship contract with Keiichi (which rendered him unable to lust for her for years). This is the setting's '''Devil herself''' calling Belldandy a liar and a hypocrite with all the right to do so because Hild at least followed the interspecies romance rules and is still paying the price by not being able to see Tyr anymore even when they still love each other.]]
* LikeADaughterToMe:
** This is the relationship she shares with Belldandy and Skuld, even though she antagonizes them. As they are reminiscent of Tyr, she cannot help but love them all in all.
** Hagal is the surrogate daughter Hild raised in Urd's absence, her being Hild's pride and joy alongside Urd.
* LovingBully: One of the reasons she picks on the Norns (Belldandy in particular) is because they remind her of Tyr. She loves them just as much as she despises the fact that they represent her separation from him.
* MamaBear: She wants nothing more than to be with Urd, and this is presumably one of the reasons she leaves an avatar of herself in Nekomi.
* MeaningfulEcho
** She at times acts exactly like Urd. One exchange of insults they throw at each other is almost word-for-word the same as one between Urd and Skuld:
-->Volume 5:
--->'''Urd''': I don't remember raising you to come running at your sisters for every little problem!\\
'''Skuld''': I don't remember being raised by you, ''period''!
-->Volume 22:
--->'''Hild''': I guess I didn't raise you properly, huh?\\
'''Urd''': You didn't raise me at all!
* MirrorCharacter: Ansuz. They might be a goddess and a demon, but they are equally powerful, feisty, quarrelsome and belligerent. They'd have to be similar, both having been married to Tyr. They even like each other
* MsFanservice: Much like her daughter, she has a killer figure and is often played ofr fanservice and under MaleGaze angles.
* MumLooksLikeASister: She looks just like Urd- only with a more mature makeup and hairdo.
* MysticalWhiteHair: Her unnatural white hair hints at her demonic origins.
* NavelDeepNeckline: Like her daughter, Hild's dress has an open front that exposes her cleavage and abdomen.
* NotSoAboveItAll:
** While she's antagonistic towards the Norns, it's shown that she loves Urd very much and she would like nothing more than her daughter to be at her side; then again, she's certainly not above smacking Urd around for good measure.
** She even betrays some pride in Hagal when she talks about her with the Norns. This brings out a jealous response from Urd; however, it's shown that (for once) she didn't say it to annoy Urd, but rather as a matter-of-fact admittance.
* ParentalSubstitute: In Urd's absence, she raised Hagal in her stead. Hagal argues that she'll never replace Urd in Hild's heart, but Urd argues that Hagal is fortunate to be with Hild in the first place, something that she herself will never be able to do.
* RunningGag:
** Hild likes to kiss people out of the blue. She's caught AT LEAST [[spoiler:Keiichi, Lind, and Hagal]] off-guard. And they all freaked out.
** Every word she utters makes Mara recoil in guard, since it can mean either praise or punishment. Take into consideration that ''she's actually fond of Mara''; curiously, she also elicits this reaction on Hagal.
* {{Satan}}: Since she's the ruler of all demons, albeit a less-than-evil version and only the latest to hold the position of ruler of demons.
* SignatureHeadgear: The amount of decorations and ornaments in her hair are incredible. Her daughter, Urd, seems to copy this aspect of her.
* StarCrossedLovers: With the god Tyr. Thanks to failing the Gate of Judgment, and a curse she used to meet him once more and conceive Urd, she will die if see and Tyr ever see each other again. She has thus devoted her life to undoing the current system of the universe so that she and Tyr can be together again, no matter how long it takes her.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: When she was younger she looked [[https://i.imgur.com/2UmUy8N.jpg ''exactly'' like Urd, only with different facial markings.]]
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Hild and Anzus are equally snarky, feisty and belligerent; no wonder Tyr married both, since they're two of his type of woman.
* TheTease: She flirts a lot, but by the end of the manga its clear her true love is still the god Tyr.
* VocalDissonance: Her mature voice doesn't change even in her avatar form, who looks even younger than Skuld.
* WalkingWasteland: In her first appearance across all versions, she states if it weren't for all the [[PowerLimiter power-limiting jewelry]] she wears (yes, she uses multiple ones), her entrance into the human world would likely destroy the whole city, and even with them, her entrance still causes dark clouds to appear and stir as well as kicking up gale-force winds.
%%* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Nowhere near as evil as most examples.
* YouAreWorthHell: Literally. Hagal turns Niflheim upside down in order to keep Hild alive, facing demonic punishment for her actions after the latter's term of office is effectively restarted.

[[folder:Velsper]]
[[quoteright:315:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ahmygoddesswelsper1.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:315:[[labelnote:Click here to see his cat form]][[quoteright:315:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ahmygoddesswelspercat.jpg]][[/labelnote]]]]

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/EmiriKatou (JP-Drama CD)

A demon who is in a doublet (a link of fate established to preserve the balance between Heaven and Hell) with Belldandy. He was punished by being reincarnated into a kitten. Since then he has been staying in the Tarikihongan Temple with the main characters, though he doesn't do much.

He is the only demon who shows a {{familiar}}, having obtained it from Keiichi after neither him nor Belldandy could support it. His black fur becomes white spotted, but he returns normal after naming his ''tsukaima'' as "Die Wespe der Blauen Lanze" ("The Wasp of the Blue Lance" in German).
----
* AbhorrentAdmirer: He loves Belldandy so much that he [[spoiler:almost destroyed the universal mechanism of time itself for her to remember him]]. As he put it to Keiichi, once he met her, [[spoiler:he could not possibly afford to forget her, so he froze himself in time to retain her memory; the strain this brought to the Doublet almost killed them both]].
* AdaptedOut: He's not included in the TV series and if there's any episode based on a manga story partially involving him in cat form, he's typically just replaced by a normal non-demonic cat.
* ArcVillain: [[spoiler:Of the Mystery Child arc.]]
* BlowYouAway: His elemental attribute is wind.
* ButNotTooEvil: Even though he is one of the most dangerous demons ever encountered in the manga, Velsper does not act out of malice even when he has the opportunity to do so, and is very insightful when given the chance. This is why he is allowed to live at the Tarikihongan Temple when he is reincarnated. Given what he did, though, everyone but Belldandy (who doesn't remember the events leading to him being reincarnated) has a chip on their shoulder when it comes to Velsper, and Urd and Skuld tend to pick on him. He's not exactly loved, just merely tolerated. He also sincerely loves Belldandy.
* CatsAreMean: He has occasional occurrences of being a jerkish while in cat form.
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: When she finds out he still has his memories, Hild punishes him by revealing Velsper was reborn as a female cat, since she considers leaving him at the temple with everyone knowing his GenderBender situation is far more cruel than dragging him to hell to be tortured.
* FriendlyEnemy: {{Implied|Trope}}. Should the demons of Niflheim be aware that [[spoiler:Belldandy is Velsper's Doublet, this implies that they respect the Pact with Heaven more than it seems, as they could easily dispose of the powerful goddess by killing Velsper, meaning that demonkind seeks the preservation of both Belldandy and Velsper's lives. In perspective, this means that they sincerely don't want the war between Heaven and Hell to continue even when they have the opportunity to do so with a catastrophic blow. Either that, or they simply don't know who's Velsper's Doublet in the first place]].
* GratuitousGerman: How he names his familiar.
* IKnowYourTrueName: [[spoiler:The goal of his debut arc is for Belldandy to remember his name so that his curse can be broken.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: He believes he's the only one worthy to receive Belldandy's attentions, [[spoiler: and he nearly breaks all of space and time to get what he wants.]] Becomes downplayed in later arcs, though he still behaves as though he's much more important to the plot than he actually is.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: He is willing to playfully sabotage everyone at the temple except Belldandy, and he will relent any scheming if it helps her just a little bit.
* LostInTranslation: His name is German in origin, so "Welsper" is correct (and is used in the original Japanese materials), but the Dark Horse translation uses "Velsper" to make its proper pronunciation clearer to readers.
* LoveMakesYouEvil: It's an evil thing to do to [[spoiler:destroy time]] to be with Belldandy, but even the mere memory of her ''makes all worth it''.
* TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody: Since he became a cat he has aquired some feline instincts, much to his chagrin.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: He points out to Keiichi that he himself would not be able to [[spoiler:forget Belldandy]] given the same circumstances as him, to which Keiichi has no retort.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Velsper cursed himself to remain in a child's body [[spoiler:so as not to forget Belldandy, who he was partnered with in the doublet system]]. The curse ends up severely hampering everything later, as his kid body cannot withstand his growing powers.
* ThePowerOfLove: Inverted. Velsper almost destroyed the universe because he loves Belldandy; he later relents almost all of his demonic powers just to be with her, albeit reincarnated. He gets around the memory-losing restriction next by [[spoiler:reincarnating as a ''female'' cat]].
* ReincarnatedAsANonHumanoid: Velsper was originally a demon, but because he hacked into Yggdrasil, he was punished afterwards by being reincarnated into a cat. He's also a ''[[ReincarnatedAsTheOppositeSex female]]'' in his current body, though he still has a male mind.
* StatingTheSimpleSolution: As a side effect of obtaining his familiar, Velsper become unaesthetic enough to be confused with a rag by Belldandy. In order to get help from Hild, Belldandy has to engage in a spectacular broom race with her. After all is said and done, Hild reveals that all that Velsper actually had to do to get rid of his faded spots was to christen his Familiar. Just that.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With the broom Gluhen Des Herzen, as they were an extremely successful racing team.

->Voiced by: Creator/NorioWakamoto (JP), Creator/KevinTCollins (EN)

Mara's assistant and self proclaimed god of misfortune and poverty, Senbei is a miniature genie summoned from a bottle of ramune. He's extremely fond of saying "Sha'kine!" and peppering his speech with foreign phrases.
----
* ForeignCurseWord: In the English dub of ''Flights of Fancy'', at least...he lets out a long, drawn-out "Merde!"
* TheGadfly: He claims that happiness works akin to the Law of Conservation of Energy - there is only so much happiness in the world, so if he wants to become happier, he has to make other people miserable.
* GoldfishPoopGang: He works with Mara, and is just as if not MORE incompetent at causing misfortune.
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: No matter the version, Senbei is really, ''really'' bad about spouting phrases from multiple languages.
* JackassGenie: And one full of himself at that.
* LaserGuidedKarma: He's fond of using his powers to bring misfortune onto those who have bad personalities.

[[caption-width-right:350:The five forms of the Lord of Terror [[note]]The Urn of Mao Za Haxon; [[spoiler:possession of Urd; Fenrir; the Snake of Midgard; possession of Keiichi]][[/note]]]]
A virus that runs on Yggdrasil. It is divided into two parts—the will of the Lord of Terror, and the "Ultimate Destruction Program", Fenrir.
----
* AntiClimax: [[spoiler:The Lord of Terror, who was on the verge of rampaging through the city just mere hours before ends up locked in a diskette which is then write-locked.]]
* BigBad: The main antagonist of the 1st Season of the TV series which corresponds to his titular arc in the manga.
* CanisMajor: [[spoiler: the Ultimate Destruction Program, which is a version of the wolf Fenrir, which in this series is {{Kaiju}} sized.]]
* DiabolusExNihilo: Seriously, where the hell did this guy come from?
* DigitalAbomination: It is a virus infecting Yyggdrasil, the heavenly supercomputer that controls reality. It has several powerful forms and wants nothing but the destruction of all reality.
* ForTheEvulz: He will destroy reality and he has no other purpose for existing. As a matter of fact, he is the only character in the manga that is purely evil.
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: He wants to destroy reality, and then, we don't know what.
* GrandTheftMe: Its main method of survival is to jump from a dying/weak body into a stronger one. In the series [[spoiler:it goes from Urd to Fenrir to Midgard to Keiichi to a floppy disk.]]
* OmnicidalManiac: His intent is to destroy the entire universe in order to create a new, violent one.
* UnseenEvil: The Lord of Terror never shows his actual appearance.
* WeaksauceWeakness: [[spoiler:He gets erased... from existence... by Skuld... with a small magnet. Granted he was forced into a floppy disk and she explains why that would kill him.]]
* WhyWontYouDie: He is incredibly resilient and opportunistic, infecting hosts with extreme virulence. [[spoiler:The key to his defeat, as the Norns eventually realize, is to try to force him into an incompatible host]].

[[quoteright:315:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ahmygoddesshagall.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:315:[[labelnote:Click here to see Hagal as a child]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hagall_child.png[[/labelnote]]]]
[[caption-width-right:315:[[labelnote:Click here to see Hagal as Hild's apprentice]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hagall_apprentice.png[[/labelnote]]]]

The second-most-powerful demon in Hell (although Urd is stronger, she prefers not to live in Hell), who usurps Hild and declares herself Daimakaicho. She thinks Hild has lost the power and glory of the demon world, and has an elaborate plan to get more shares of wishes on Earth and to destroy everything related to the Goddesses. Her powers include mental control and hypnotism. It's later revealed that Hild raised Hagal as her daughter in Urd's absence, making her the heir apparent to Hild in all but name.
----
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: Subverted. Her early lack of dominion over her powers caused her considerable harm (see her childhood and apprenticeship pictures); before Hild took her under her wing, she was basically destitute and a complete mess.
* BigBad: Fills this role in the penultimate arc of the manga.
* BigNo: [[spoiler:An internal one when Hild takes over her body.]]
* CripplingOverspecialization: Hagal is excellent bar none when it comes to hypnotism but mediocre in other forms of spells; in spite of this, she is powerful enough to be Niflheim's second-in-command.
* CuteAndPsycho: [[spoiler:Inverted since her psychoness is mostly a role she plays and her real personality is rather adorable, if a little foul-mouthed.]]
* TheDragon: Was supposed to be this to Hild, until she rebelled.
* ElegantGothicLolita: She's a snappy dresser alright! Frilly skirts and all!
* GrassIsGreener: As Hagal points out, Urd should be Hild's second-in command and is shunning a rightful position of privilege that anyone in Hell would die for. Urd does envy Hagal for being able to actually be around Hild all the time, which is something she'll never be able to do herself.
* HappilyAdopted: {{Implied|Trope}}. While she's shown to be Hild's [[TheDragon second in command]], it's implied by the way Hild refers to her and her familiarity when speaking about Hagal even after her treachery, that she's a lot more to Hild than just her apprentice: she's the daughter that Hild raised in Urd's absence.
* HotAsHell: She's a demon strong enough to be the second-in command to the demon queen, and eventually usurps her. Like her former mentor, she takes the form of an attractive woman.
* HumblePie: [[spoiler: She's defeated by a field of flowers obscuring Keiichi and Belldandy from her sight, allowing Keiichi to breath micro-Hild's essence into her ear to seize control of her body. Later, Urd smacks her around for good measure. After this, it turned out that she's a lot sweeter than she portrayed before]].
* HypnoticEyes: Her power consists in altering her victim's perception through eye contact and inducing nightmarish situations into their minds.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She put Hell upside down [[spoiler:to save the life of Hild, who is basically her mother; even though Hild tricked her to do so, she doesn't care and is ecstatic to learn that she will not die]].
* KickTheDog: When she has Belldandy on the ropes bad enough to force the latter to call out Holy Bell, [[spoiler:Hagal rips her out of Belldandy, forcing her to revert to egg form]].
* KnightOfCerebus: Her appearance kicks off a far more action focused story arc, and as a villain she is played far more seriously than the series typical antagonists.
* LadySwearsALot: In the Goddess Miyaku Team fan-lation at least, [[spoiler:after she drops the psycho façade, she has the absolute worst language out of ANY character in the manga, being the only character to actually drop uncensored F-bombs]] when the worst anyone else has said is maybe "damn" or censored out as SymbolSwearing.
* MeaningfulName: Her name means "hail" in old Norwegian, old Icelandic and in Anglo-Saxon.
* SheCleansUpNicely: When she first meets Hild, she's dressed in rags and looks like she's destitute. Hild takes her as her apprentice, gaining a tremendous boost in beauty and status.
* ShowgirlSkirt: She wears a skirt with lift and frills.
* SpareToTheThrone: She is Hild's heir apparent in terms of might and power. Relationship-wise, she is Hild's daughter in all but name and Hagal loves her as so.
* TheStarscream: A successful one at that, seeing as when we're introduced to her, she's already taken over Hell.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Hagal usually talks about herself in the third person [[spoiler: at least while she's maintaining her façade]].
* UndyingLoyalty: [[spoiler:Her ''true'' motive for "usurping" Hild. She's trying to save Hild from the clause in demonic law that requires the ruler of Hell to die when her term expires. Being usurped doesn't count as "expiring".]]

[[folder:Alvar the Black]]
[[quoteright:315:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ahmygoddesshalval.jpg]]
-> ''Come forth Darkness! A beam of Light into the Darkness. A grain of Light into the Darkness. True Darkness.''
--> -Alvar's spell

A powerful demon who serves Hagal in a rebellion against Hild. Her name has the 'rune of sound' "Þ" (Thurisaz, Thorn or Thurs). Her main power is an ability "to see sounds" and combat in complete darkness.
----
* CripplingOverspecialization: [[spoiler:Alvar cannot see beyond the speed of sound; as the broom Glühende Herz is supersonic, this costs her the fight]].
* DarkIsEvil: The only way to describe her powers is drowning darkness. It's not only that she makes light absent; for all intents and purposes, light doesn't exist and cannot be generated in her presence.
* TheDragAlong: She wasn't nearly as invested in the coup as the rest of the demons and was mainly there because Hagal asked her to. After she is defeated, she is out of the picture for the rest of the manga.
* EmptyEyes: Her eyes are pitch black. She does have sclera, but she doesn't seem to have pupils.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: She's not very close to the rest of the rebellious demons and they don't trust her that much.
* KnightOfCerebus: She is the first demon that the Norns and Keiichi face in Hell and she sets the series taking a DarkerAndEdgier tone.
* TheLoad: To the rebels at Niflheim. Eihwaz even points out that she doesn't know Alvar that well and finds her to be not very trustworthy.
* RuleOfScary: Even Belldandy looks terrified when the lights go out while facing Alvar. The Norns and Keiichi spent a considerable amount of time being sitting ducks while Alvar just played into their fear.
* SuperSenses: Her main power is the ability to "see" sounds. This means "seeing" loud noises is the equivalent of a bright light in her face.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: [[spoiler:Effectively disappears from the story after she loses the fight against the Norns.]]

[[folder:Thrym]]
[[quoteright:315:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ahmygoddessthrym.jpg]]

Thrym is a demon that serves Hagal in the rebellion, who specializes in physical strength. She is a strong, tall and muscular woman, with short hair. She challenges Belldandy and co. and blocks their passage through Nifelheim from chapters 257 to 261. Her strength is so immense she's able to deflect sound-waves by punching in the air.
----
%%* ActionGirl
* AffablyEvil: Is overall very friendly, though is at the same time remorseless about any harm she inflicts on others even when they can't fight back.
* TheBerserker: Subverted. Thrym is not driven by bloodlust, but rather thrives for finding a worthy fighting opponent.
* BoisterousBruiser: Her muscles are easily as large as Tamiya's and she's significantly stronger than any human.
* TheBrute: While she's supernaturally strong and fast, she exclusively relies in her physical prowess and doesn't seem to be able to use magic in any way whatsoever.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Becomes friendly with [[spoiler:Keiichi and the goddesses once they beat her.]]
* LadyLooksLikeADude: If she didn't have such prominent cleavage Thrym wouldn't look female at all.
* MegatonPunch: Anything she punches breaks. [[spoiler: Even songs and giant gothic doors.]]
* WorthyOpponent: This is what she seeks while engaging in combat. She gives praise every time it is due, although she escalates the threat immediately after to probe the waters.

[[folder:Mokkurkalfi]]
[[quoteright:315:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ahmygoddesshrungnir.jpg]]

Mokkurkalfi is another demon that serves Hagal. She wears a mask and a helmet somewhat resembling an old German WWI uniform. She is a "puppeteer" in that she's able to create and control robots and machines, similar to Skuld. Unlike Skuld, she views her creations as tools rather than with affection. Unsurprisingly, when Keiichi and company confront her, due to disabling magic in the room she ends up fighting Skuld.
----
* EldritchAbomination: She is the only demon that shows her non-humanoid true nature to Keiichi. The experience shocked him bad enough that Belldandy forced her to stop with just ''one look'' at her.
* EvilCounterpart: To Skuld, to an extent. Both are young red-clad [[GadgeteerGenius Gadgeteer Geniuses]] whose main strength relies on their inventions.
* HypocriticalHumor: Skuld points out that Mokkurkalfi prides herself too much in her work not to care about it; [[spoiler:she eventually realizes that her crafts actually care about her as they defend her from Skuld's attacks.]]
* NotSoAboveItAll: She might be a demon, but she will not abide her sister dying [[spoiler:even if that was the plan]]. It even softens Eihwaz's heart a little to hear it from her.
* RedOnesGoFaster: The reason why she wears red is this.
* WorthyOpponent: She's every bit as tech-savvy as Skuld and they actually praise each others' creations. Skuld even offers her to help her rebuild her mechanical familiar, though she declines.

[[folder:Eihwaz]]
[[quoteright:315:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ahmygoddesseihwaz.jpg]]

A demon that looks like a five-year-old girl and seems pretty harmless. She's actually Mokkurkalfi's older sister and Hagal's second-in-command during the coup. Belligerent and standoffish, Eihwaz serves as a guide to the Norns and Keiichi in their trek through Niflheim.
----
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: With her sister Mokkurkalfi. According to the latter, Eihwaz is so snappy that it doesn't make it particularly easy to love her.
* TheChessmaster: Eihwaz created the rooms where most of the action in Niflheim takes place. [[spoiler:As it turned out, all the rooms were created to gauge and drain powers from the Goddesses in order to make them vulnerable to being converted to demons themselves.]]
* CuteAndPsycho: A cute little girl with a love for karaoke. But she has a really bad attitude waiting to pop out.
* TheDragon: While Hagal is Hild's Dragon, Eihwaz is Hagal's in turn.
* NotSoAboveItAll: She is willing to sacrifice herself by setting a barrier in order to protect her sister Mokkurkalfi from Skuld's anti-proton bomb explosion, if only to give her one second more of life. This, after seeing Urd trying to contain the explosion itself to save Skuld.
%%* NotSoHarmlessVillain
%%* OlderThanTheyLook
* PaperFanOfDoom: Whacks Mokkurkalfi with it. "Who are you calling ill-tempered?!"
* SadisticChoice: [[spoiler: Almost forces Keiichi to kill her to save Belldandy from fading into nothingness.]]

[[folder:Glühende Herz]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/goddess28_106.jpg]]

A magical, demonic, sentient broom that belongs to Hild. It belonged to Velsper before he began his omnicidal crusade.
----
* TheAce: It's the fastest "broom" in both Heaven and Hell, albeit not built for endurance races.
* ChekhovsGun: Had it not been there with its supersonic speed, the Norns and Keiichi would not have been able to win over Alvar.
* CripplingOverspecialization: It is the fastest broom in both Heaven and Hell, but its range is actually very short.
* DeadpanSnarker: It's snarky and snappy as hell (pardon the pun). It's remarkable, considering it doesn't have a face.
* FatalFlaw: It's proud to a fault.
* {{Foil}}: To the broom Stringfellow, which only requires a pep talk to be fast; also, Stringfellow is very content to just be a broom.
* GeniusBruiser: It's not only that it's fast; it's also tremendously agile in combat, as Alvar comes to eventually understand. Had she not given up the fight, it would have killed her.
* HesitantSacrifice: [[spoiler:Skuld basically has to destroy it by overpowering it in order to make it fast enough to get out of Hell]].
* HotBlooded: It is the kill-first, ask-questions-later kind of being. It'd even kill fellow demons given the circumstance (as Alvar almost found out).
* NonIndicativeName: Glühende Herz is not a broom ''per se''; it's actually a vacuum cleaner.
* NotSoAboveItAll: It misses Velsper very much and has nothing but praise for its former rider; it even considers Velsper as a far superior rider than Hild.
* OffOnATechnicality: In order to race in a proper broom race with Belldandy, Hild has to demonstrate that Gluhen Des Herzen is a vacuum cleaner, even though it looks more like a rocket than a broom.
* PlayedStraight: Aside from Velsper, the Lord of Terror, and Garmr, Gluhen Des Herzen is the only being that actually acts like a demon in the series (antagonizing, selfish, and sometimes brutish).
* PointOfNoReturn: It accompanies Keiichi and Belldandy up until the throne room of Hell. It stops at the door and says that it took them up until the point where it cannot be considered a traitor and that it cannot antagonize the ruler of Hell directly; it then bids farewell and wishes them luck.
* RuleOfCool: It's a vacuum cleaner that looks like a cross between a harpoon and an electric guitar. It even floors Skuld with its design.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Hild. It even endures an alliance with the Norns for her sake.
* TheUnfettered: Alvar genuinely thinks that her life is in danger when Gluhen Des Herzen attacks her. Had she not thrown the towel, it could have killed her.
* UtilityMagic: It's the fastest magical device ever built... and it's a vacuum cleaner.
* VitriolicBestFriends: It was this with Velsper until Velsper found himself depowered. He was then appropriated by Hild.
* WeAreStrugglingTogether: It cannot abide a Hell ruled by Hagal, so it allies with the Norns and Keiichi in order to topple her.
* WorthyOpponent: {{Implied|Trope}}. Considering its previous speed records and accomplishments, it's implied that Gluhen Des Herzen would have defeated Belldandy and Stringfellow if Velsper had been the rider.

[[folder:Hel]]

A character exclusive to the novel ''Ah! My Goddess!: First End'' by Creator/YumiTouma, Urd's seiyuu. She is the governess deity of the dead who is always accompanied by the wolf Garmr.
----
* AlternateContinuity: It's not known whether this version of Hel is the daughter of Loki or whether she's the sister of Fenrir like in the original Norse mythology.
* GorgeousGorgon: Described as a "monstrous beauty".
* SecondHandStoryTelling: According to Hild, Hel was the first to notice there was something wrong when [[spoiler:Keiichi and Urd's souls were missing from the universal implosion that killed everyone.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Garmr]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garmr.png]]

The Dread Watchdog of Niflheim. Garmr appears once in the manga after being invoked by mistake and also in ''First End'' as the constant companion of Hel.
----
* AngryGuardDog: He guards Niflheim and he has an attitude to match it.
* {{Invocation}}: Garmr is mistakenly summoned by Shiho Sakakibara by enacting a spell she does not know. When she tells him so, he goes ballistic.
* RightHandAttackDog: He accompanies Hel wherever she goes.
* SummoningRitual: Sakakibara invokes Garmr while attempting to call a Buddhist spirit. She was doing it that bad.
* WhoDares: Garmr asks why he was summoned. Sakakibara tells him that she wasn't calling him, prompting his ire.
