* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Initially he's simply a helpful and cheery candy citizen that assists Princess Bubblegum but is no more capable than any other candy citizen as he was helpless when Susan Strong tried to eat him. As the show pushed forward we would see PB become the devious, dark magic user who is capable of restraining Hunson Abadeer himself.

to:

* HeroicComedicSociopath: Assuming he's not evil.evil, he displays many sociopathic traits, including reducing a man to tears, humiliate him and exile him after turning his kids into mutants..

* IdiotBall: Shares this with Bubblegum in ''Stakes'' as somehow both of them saw no real issue in having the recently blinded Peppermint Butler dispose of Vampire King's vampiric essence. Unsurprisingly he almost immediately sets off a chain of events that results in the raw essence being unleashed.

* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: As of the Distant Lands episode, "''Wizard City''", he could be seen as this to [[spoiler:both the Lich and Sweet P. ** In ''The Suitor'' he technically drops the Ambiguousness by blatantly summoning a demon to gain power and is refered to as Dark One by a Gumball Guardian. However, the Gumball Guardians don't react to that (instead one of them simply interupts him due to PB being in the lab for weeks) and he is not seen doing anything particularly evil with that power, so it might be [[DarkIsNotEvil "in name only"]].

*AmbiguouslyGay: Peppermint Butler appears to be very attracted to Braco's monster form (telling him "I want to have your babies", even) and blushes at the thought of getting to meet the Vampire King in person. In ''Fiona and Cake'', he's briefly seen via Prismo's TV wall [[SweetheartSipping sharing a milkshake]] with Blaine.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/SteveLittle, Mace Montgomery Miskel (as Pepper Mint)

-->''I'd like your flesh.''

Princess Bubblegum's loyal servant. Best friends with Death. Will probably eat your flesh while you are sleeping.
----
* AffablyEvil: Despite being confirmed to be evil, he does still stay by Princess Bubblegum's side and is on mutually good terms with Finn and Jake. His Dum-dum juiced self strives to be this even more than his prior self, stating that while he wants to be an evil wizard, he doesn't want to be a jerk about it.
* AdaptationalJerkass: Much crueler and demanding in "Wizard City" compared to his AffablyEvil demeanor in the show.
* AlmightyJanitor: A simple butler, yet dropping his name will get you an immediate favor from Death itself.
* AmbiguouslyEvil: In addition to his association with Death, a FreezeFrameBonus in "Return to the Nightosphere" shows a picture of him playing golf with Marceline's Dad.
** In "You Made Me" Peppermint Butler suddenly becomes very nervous when Finn suggests using PB's Aura Visualizer to view his aura.
--->'''Finn''': I want to see Peppermint Butler's aura!\\
'''Peppermint Butler''': *laughs nervously* You ''don't'' want to see that.
** As of "Nemesis", it's no longer ambiguous. He IS evil, it's just that his interests and schemes never go against the Candy Kingdom or anyone else on the heroes' side so he never comes into conflict with them.
* TheBadGuyWins: In "Nemesis", he defeats Peacemaster by threatening his kids and making him do embarrassing acts, thus keeping his dark secret intact.
* BattleButler: He can handle himself pretty well in a fight.
* ByronicHero: Whilst trying to find Spader and figure out what happened to him, he tries to pin Bufo for it. [[spoiler:[[CantGetAwayWithNuthin He gets caught regardless, not for doing anything to Spader, but for being Peppermint Butler.]]]]
* CerebusRetcon: A lot of Peppermint Butler's dark deeds [[spoiler:in the ''Distant Lands'' episode ''Wizard City'']] are played much more seriously [[spoiler:than they are in the main series. For starters, he is painted as a [[TheDreaded feared sorcerer]], banned from Wizard City for attempting to steal forbidden magic to make himself more powerful and is implied to have sent Wizard City into chaos at one point]].
* CrazyPrepared: He somehow knew [[spoiler:he would be reverted to child form, and performed a ritual to bind his soul to his future self in the event of that becoming a reality.]]
* ADayInTheLimelight: He's the main focus of "Nemesis".
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
** When he makes Peacemaster eat mud, he becomes regretful and admits he went too far there.
** He, like so many others, is absolutely terrified of [[OmnicidalManiac The Lich]].
** [[spoiler:After getting doused with Dum-Dum juice and having his original self bind his soul to him, Pepper mint who still plans on becoming evil is disgusted by how much his original self kept taunting him for not living up to his expectations to become like him. Eventually, Pepper Mint gets so sick of it by the end of "Wizard City" that he declares that while he still plans on becoming an evil wizard, he would never become like the original Peppermint Butler and kills his soul.]]
* EvilDetectingDog: Okay, so he's not an animal, but the trope is in effect when he sees the Lich possessed Princess Bubblegum, gets down on all fours and starts hissing at her like a cat.
* {{Foil}}: [[DarkMagicalGirl Dark Magical Dude]] to PB's StrawVulcan MadScientist, to the point he has to pretend the crystals in his "Poison Room" are scientific, not mystical.
* FountainOfYouth: [[spoiler:In "Gumbaldia", getting splashed with Gumbald's dum-dum juice reverts him to a child again. In ''Distant Lands'', we see his child form (dubbed Pepper Mint) has a separate personality and interests from his previous self: While the regular Peppermint Butler wants to push his young self into becoming like him, Pepper Mint is interested in becoming his own person.]]
* HeroicComedicSociopath: Assuming he's not evil.
* HyperCompetentSidekick: He's not necessarily smarter than Princess Bubblegum, but he's the only servant of hers who's fully capable at his job. He also cares deeply for her wellbeing, including trying to get her to take better care of herself and have more of a work-life balance. Without Peppermint Butler, Bonnie would be a lot worse off.
* TheJeeves: One of the more devious examples.
* NightmareFetishist: He's involved in dark magic and the occult, he becomes attracted to the HopelessSuitor Braco when he is transformed into a horrific monster and he admires the Vampire King.
* NightmareFuelStationAttendant: A happy, cheerful servant of Princess Bubblegum that happens to be on a friendly basis with both Death and the Lord of Evil.
* PalsWithJesus: He's friends with Death and the Lord of Evil. Simply knowing Pep-But earns Finn and Jake's favor with the former.
* PsychoSidekick: He genuinely seems to have Princess Bubblegum's interests at heart, regardless of his own morality. Best shown in "The Nemesis", when he deals with one of her enemies by taking his children hostage without letting Bubblegum in on it. Some of the comics, in particular, reveal that Bubblegum knows pretty well what he's capable of and uses him to sort out problems that Finn is too nice to deal with. That being said she was not happy when she learns Peppermint Butler created a lot of weapons just to kill Marceline if she turned evil. Nonetheless he's absolutely thrilled to get the Vampire King's autograph.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: "The Vault" revealed that he is as old as the Gumball Guardians, being born during the early days of the candy kingdom centuries ago.
* SignificantMonogram: Maybe. "PB" is the same as Princess Bubblegum. Or Phlannel Boxingday.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: As of the Distant Lands episode, "''Wizard City''", he could be seen as this to [[spoiler:both the Lich and Sweet P. Reverted to child form as of the events of "''Come Along With Me''", he is plagued with visions of his past self and emotionally abused by them to mold him into a powerful, evil wizard, only to be defeated by their child selves in defiance of them. Though, what separates Peppermint from Sweet P. is that, while Sweet P. wishes to be a good guy despite the Lich's instruction, Peppermint ''still'' wants to be evil but in his own way.]]
* TokenEvilTeammate: Especially during the 'Stakes' saga, in which he's a big help in defeating the members of the vampire court when he would clearly rather be AdmiringTheAbomination.
* UndyingLoyalty: Remains with PB even after King of Ooo usurps her, and during the 'Stakes' saga he's willing to use himself as bait to keep the Hierophant from going near PB (though it doesn't work).
* VocalEvolution: In "Slumber Party Panic", he sounded like an old man.
* WouldHitAGirl: He {{Dope Slap}}s Princess Bubblegum at the end of "The Suitor" for not giving him the chance to hook up with Braco.
* WouldHurtAChild: In "Nemesis", he stops Peace Master by threatening to turn his kids into monsters. Subverted because although he does follow through on his threats, the kids don't seem to mind their new forms.

-->''Okay. I'm gonna do it. Okay okay okay. Everyone watch! I'm gonna do a flip!''

One of the many inhabitants of the Candy Kingdom. Half-baked. Has a tendency to fall down. He eventually becomes more competent, even proving to be a more capable warrior than Finn, in "Red Throne." He is now Fire Princess' self proclaimed "Knight and Champion."
----
* AchievementsInIgnorance: Is the only person besides the Princess herself not to be knocked out by Princess Bubblegum's new knockout gas, which requires sheer willpower to resist, without even trying.
* AmbiguouslyBi: He's shown interest in LSP in an episode or two, but a brief gag in "All Your Fault" seems to have him going on a date with Jake, who has shapeshifted to look like a female version of him.
* TheAloner: He chooses not to involve himself in the events of the "Elements" arc because he's unable to do anything about the Fire Elementals, staying far away from the Fire Kingdom's castle.
* BeyondTheImpossible: He taught a Firewolf to fly. Somehow.
* TheChampion: As of "The Red Throne," to Flame Princess.
* CharacterDevelopment:
** His appearance in "Red Throne" shows that he's changed from a dimwitted man-child to a competent and capable warrior.
** This happens when a flame kingdom inhabitant tries to burn him, only for the flame shield to protect him. So instead of being burnt, he becomes fully baked.
* DemonicPossession: Happens to him in "The Suitor," in which Peppermint Butler summons a demon named Ogdoad and offers Cinnamon Bun as a ''willing'' vessel.
* TheDitz: In Jake's words, he's [[StealthPun Half-Baked]]. He becomes more focused in "Red Throne".
* DumbassNoMore: He becomes much more intelligent after he becomes fully baked in "Red Throne".
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: He had bulging green eyes in his early Season 1 appearances.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: In his first appearance, during the Candy party in "The Enchiridion," Cinnamon Bun tries to flip, but instead falls backwards, causing the tower Princess Bubblegum is in to crack and nearly kill the princess. It's all downhill from there. And reverses direction as of "Red Throne".
* GlassCannon: Has considerable strength, but in his own words he's "Soft" and and can be easily broken.
* TheKlutz: His lack or coordination nearly gets Princess Bubblegum killed in "The Enchiridion".
* LargeHam: He definitely has his moments of hamminess.
--> '''"I! NEED! SOFT! LIIIIIIIIIGHT!"'''
* LiteralMetaphor: He's often described as being "Half-baked", meaning foolish. It takes having fire thrown in his face to fully bake him, making him more intelligent.
* ManChild: Best displayed in the third Five Short Graybles where he goes ballistic when Princess Bubblegum takes away his night light.
* TheMillstone: The amount of times things go wrong because of him is immense.
* NiceGuy: Despite his lack of intelligence, or common sense for that matter, Cinnamon Bun is a genuinely nice guy.
* NightmareFace: [[http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130907041348/adventuretimewithfinnandjake/images/thumb/0/0c/Agdoad.png/1000px-Agdoad.png When possessed by Ogdoad]].
* NumberTwo:
** In spite of his limitations, PB uses him for routine tasks in the Candy Kingdom.
** He later becomes this to Flame Princess after they take control of the Fire Kingdom.
* OddFriendship: With Flame Princess.
* PatientZero: For the second outbreak of the Candy Zombie plague in "From Bad To Worse".
* TookALevelInBadass: In "Red Throne," he's become much more competent and capable than he ever was.
* VocalEvolution: His first speaking role ("The Enchiridion!") gave him a high and nasal voice, which was exchanged later on for a deep and gruff SimpletonVoice.
* VoodooShark: Played for laughs when Finn and Jake show surprise over how a firewolf could fly. His only response was "yeah, I taught him."

[[folder:Starchie]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/starchy_at.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TomKenny

An inhabitant of the Candy Kingdom, distinguished by his hat, mustache, and the fact that he's a ball of starch. Starchie works as a gravedigger and runs his own late-night radio talk show.
----
* ButtMonkey: Bad things tend to happen to him, like getting thrown in the dungeon, attacked by zombies, or getting Freezer Burn Flu.
* ConspiracyTheorist: He takes calls from them on his radio show.
* TheCuckoolanderWasRight: Turns out [[spoiler:he was right about PB being replaced by a lizard imposter in "We Fixed a Truck".]]
* FakingTheDead: Faked his death and ran away to get away from Princess Bubblegum's intrusive surveillance. She then had him cloned.
* FelonyMisdemeanor: Being thrown in the dungeon for three hours by the Earl of Lemongrab. Starchie doubted he would even survive that long.
* {{Gasshole}}: Squeeze him and he'll fart.
* GoneHorriblyRight: The Ice King's pained howls free him from the Freezer Burn Flu, and after saying he feels healthy again, he immediately bulks up even more.
-->''Starchie's feeling healthy again. ''[Bulks up further]'' A bit ''too'' healthy if you ask me.''
* ImAHumanitarian: He can't help it. Flesh is delicious.
* LivingPolyhedron: As you'd expect from a living chocolate malt ball.
* SignatureHeadgear: One of his distinguishing features.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Always seems to refer to himself in the third person:
-->''[Upon being sent to the dungeon]'' If Starchie lives that long.
* TookALevelInJerkass: While original Starchie was a kindly old man, his clone is a jerk.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/DeeBradleyBaker

The strongman of the Candy Kingdom, Mr. Cupcake is, as his name suggests, a giant cupcake.
----
* FeelNoPain: In an attempt to avoid going and living with Lemongrab for a few weeks so he wouldn't be so lonely, Mr. Cupcake broke his own arm. The only sound he made during the whole thing was a single grunt, which sounded more from effort.
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: In "Slumber Party Panic", while playing Truth or Dare, Chocoberry dares him to take off his wrapper.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: Very well spoken.
-->'''Mr. Cupcake''': "Surely this frosted drink will soothe my fevered tempers." ''[Drinks milk shake when he hears Hug Wolf Finn]'' "Hello? Good heavens! A lycanthrope!"
* WorldsStrongestMan: He's supposedly the strongest of all the candy people.

->'''Voiced by:''' Maria Bamford

A talking pinata, Manfried serves as a PA for the Candy Kingdom.
----
* BearerOfBadNews: Usually this for Princess Bubblegum.
* BigWhat: In "Slumber Party Panic", upon hearing that they were going to smash pinatas. Finn quickly reassured him that he wasn't going to be smashed.
* CoolHorse: Or in this case, a cool pinata.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:She prevents Uncle Gumbald from dosing Princess Bubblegum with dum dum juice in ''Come Along With Me''. This is despite attempting to use Finn to do exactly that in the prior episode.]]
* SamusIsAGirl: [[spoiler:In a flashback episode, it was revealed that he was actually PB's Aunt Lolly who got transformed into a candy person.]]
* TokenGoodTeammate: [[spoiler:Aunt Lolly was the only person among PB's family to hear out Finn's diplomatic affair. After ''Come Along With Me'', she also rules the Candy Kingdom alongside PB.]]
* WasOnceAMan: [[spoiler:Was previously PB's Aunt Lolly, turned into a pinata by Uncle Gumbald. Unlike Chicle and Gumbald however, Lolly is the only one that doesn't return to their candy person form following "Come Along With Me".]]

[[folder:Banana Guards]]
[[quoteright:125:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/125px-banan_guard_1400.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Pendleton Ward

The Royal Guard of the Candy Kingdom, serving as both police and bodyguards to Princess Bubblegum.
----
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: The Banana Guards of the past that appear in "The Vault" are color green.
* HiddenDepths: As seen in "The Thin Yellow Line", many of them have talents and interests outside of their jobs. For example, Banana Guard 16 is secretly a talented artist.
* HumanShield: They literally use themselves as barricades in "Princess Cookie". Though maybe it's more "Banana guard" shield.
* NothingExcitingEverHappensHere: In "You Made Me", they didn't tell Princess Bubblegum about Lemongrab sneaking into Candy People's rooms because it would take away their "weird TV show", which they wanted to keep because, in their words, "Banana Guarding is boring".
* ObfuscatingStupidity: As revealed in "The Thin Yellow Line", many of them have talents that they hide out of fear of Princess Bubblegum.
* PoliceAreUseless: They rarely manage to accomplish their job in protecting the kingdom.
* PraetorianGuard: For Princess Bubblegum.
* SayingSoundEffectsOutLoud: They make "weeoooh-weeoooh-weeoooh" siren sounds whenever they're called to an emergency.
* YouAreNumberSix: In "The Thin Yellow Line", Finn meets one called Banana Guard 16, implying that the others are numbered as well.

[[folder:Gumball Guardians]]
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/100px-gumball_guardian_1890.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TomKenny & Steve Little

A pair of giant Candy People with gumball machine heads. Initially presumed to be statues, they sit at opposite ends of the kingdom blowing bubbles. They only act in the utmost circumstances, such as The Lich going on a rampage in the city. They are also the Guardians of the Royal Promise, punishing those who break Royal Promises. They were built by Princess Bubblegum during the early days of the candy Kingdom as a way to defend the candy people from the bath gang and were responsible for the death of Shoko.
----
* AndIMustScream:
** "Mortal Recoil" reveals that they retain some sentience if their heads are smashed, but are unable to move their bodies.
** The one that is [[spoiler: assimilated by GOLB's monster]] begs to be saved as he slowly [[spoiler: turns into a Lich-like being]].
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: In the finale, one of them [[spoiler: gets corrupted by Golb and has only enough time to beg for help before turning into a grotesque monster. He is then vaporized when Betty puts a stop to Golb's actions]].
* DemonicPossession: By Little Dude in the titular episode and [[spoiler: as a result of Golb's corruption in "Come Along With Me".]]
* EyeScream: Marceline gouges one of his eyes after he [[spoiler: is corrupted by GOLB]]. It doesn't do much in the long run, as by this point the Guardian had developed a HealingFactor.
* FelonyMisdemeanor: When Princess Bubblegum pleads for Finn, they decide to give him a less hot trial: Math questions.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:During the battle against GOLB and his monster, one of them is killed by the monster while the other mutated into another monster. Following the battle, the mutated one is vaporized by Betty after fusing with GOLB. While it's unknown if Princess Bubblegum could repair the one that got destroyed, post-finale content shows the Candy Kingdom without the Gumball Guardians, implying that she couldn't.]]
* KillItWithFire: Their initial punishment for breaking a Royal Promise is to subject the promise-breaker to Trial by Fire.
* TimeStandsStill: They do this when you break a Royal Promise, causing everyone but the promise breaker and the one who demanded the promise to freeze solid.
* WaveMotionGun: Have a rather... ''[[NoKillLikeOverkill impressive]]'' weapon that has only been seen once while being piloted by Finn's mind-control hat.
* TheWorfEffect:
** If anything is strong or evil enough to get their attention (Like The Lich or Gunther), they get beaten fairly quickly. Subverted on occasion, as they do most of the work when the Oozers invade the Candy Kingdom.
** In the finale both of them [[spoiler:die rather gruesome deaths, with one of them being converted into a gigantic Lich-like creature before Betty erases him.]]
* YourHeadAsplode:
** They suffer this when Finn gets the math question right.
** The most common way to incapacitate them.

[[folder:Royal Tart Toter]]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-toter_109.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/StephenRoot

The Guardian of the Royal Tarts, the only Candy Kingdom food worth killing for. He protected the Royal Tarts when they were escorted to the Annual Back Rubbing Ceremony, until he became senile and unable to discharge his duties. Sadly, his mental state has left him unaware of that, and he still believes he's carrying the Royal Tarts.
----
* MacGuffinGuardian: His job was to guard the Royal Tarts in their journey from the Candy Kingdom to the Sacred Backrubbing Ceremony.
* TheMentallyDisturbed: He is senile and schizophrenic.

Yet another experiment, made to counter Goliad using Finn's hair as a base. Stormo quickly proves true to his heroic roots and traps Goliad and himself for all eternity, to save the Candy Kingdom.
----
* BigDamnHeroes: See Dynamic Entry.
* BodyHorror: The third eye, which works the same as Goliad's.
* CainAndAbel: Abel to Goliad's Cain.
* DynamicEntry: He rushes in just in time to save Finn and the Candy Kingdom from Goliad.
* GoodCounterpart: Based on Finn's DNA rather than Bubblegum's.
* HeroicSacrifice: Locks himself and Goliad in [[SealedEvilInADuel an eternally stale-mated psychic battle.]] Truly impressive in that he doesn't even hesitate to do so.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: In a way, he ''is'' Finn’s son, being made from his DNA. So just like Finn, Stormo is every bit as noble and heroic. He also inherits Finn’s blonde hair.
* PsychicPowers: With the power of his third eye, he can manipulate objects and other beings, just like Goliad.
* SiblingYinYang: It's unclear to what extent they are siblings, but they're as different as night and day. The addition of Finn's DNA into Stormo's primordial goop is the only noted difference between them.
* {{Telepathy}}: See Psychic Powers.
* TheUnintelligible: Speaks entirely in birdlike screeching sounds, though Goliad seems to understand what he's saying.

Currently resides in a candy people mental institute.
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Didn't really fit in with the other orphans.
* DrivenToSuicide: But since he's a cookie, he just cracked apart. [[UnexplainedRecovery He got better, though]].
%%* GenderBlenderName: As mentioned above.
* NotEvilJustMisunderstood: He never wanted to hurt anyone, just be a princess and make others happy as his childhood hero Princess Bubblegum had to his friends and himself.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Princess Bubblegum laughing and patting him on his head when he told her his dream didn't have any malice behind it, but he sure ''thought'' it did.
* ThemeNaming: His chips, which can separate from him and act independently, all have names like Chipolina and Chipler.

->'''Voiced by:''' Jack Pendarvis

A background character who ends up the focus of the episode "Root Beer Guy". A Candy Kingdom telemarketer and wannabe mystery writer, he spies Finn and Jake kidnapping the princess once night and investigates the case despite the concerns of his wife, Cherry Cream Soda. As it turns out, the kidnapping was all staged to test the Banana Guards, who not only horribly failed the case, but had Root Beer Guy handcuffed. As a result, Root Beer Guy was promoted to the head of the Banana Guards.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: "Root Beer Guy" is his.
* BackFromTheDead: A [[LightningCanDoAnything bolt of lightning]] strikes his remains and he comes back as Dirt Beer Guy.
* BusCrash: [[spoiler:He died for a second and final time in the TimeSkip between the series' end and "Together Again". Finn saw a skeleton that resembled him in the bird nest.]]
* CameBackStrong: When he is resurrected as Dirt Beer Guy, he gains zombie super strength.

* HardboiledDetective: He fantasizes of becoming one; even acting as a detective when it seems Princess Bubblegum was kidnapped.
* HeroicSacrifice: He's killed putting up a dome around Darren and Maja.
* KilledOffForReal: Dies while helping to seal Darren in "[[Recap/AdventureTimeS6E10SomethingBig Something Big]]". While some of the candy people are restored after Darren is killed, Root Beer Guy is the only one still dead. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] later on when he returns in "Cherry Cream Soda" as Dirt Beer Guy.
* OnlySaneMan: Becomes this to the Candy Kingdom police due to being made head of the Banana Guards.
* OurZombiesAreDifferent: Sort of a zombie; he was revived via a lightning bolt, and assimilated with the soil he was buried beneath. Given he is fully sapient, that would make him more along the lines of a RevenantZombie.
* TheBartender: After coming back to life, Dirt Beer Guy takes over the candy tavern. Notably, it becomes a much better establishment with him in charge than it was during it's debut. He even pours one of his regular customers, Simon Petrikov, a drink and even has a bar establishment in the human city as well.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1390578008000-rattle_1836.jpg]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RainnWilson

A robotic gumball machine and a mysterious, masterful swordsman who lives out in a junkyard. He far surpasses Finn and the blade of grass by skill alone in their first fight. Though reluctant to train Finn at first, he agrees after Finn does him a long needed favor. He then reveals to Finn that he is the last of an elite force of gumball machine police-bots that Princess Bubblegum massacred a long time ago following a mass lapse in their discipline. When Finn reveals his existence to Bubblegum, she sends a squad to the junkyard to ambush Rattleballs. He incapacitates all of them but leaves them alive, and after thus proving his skill and re-pledging his loyalty to Bubblegum, she hires him as a vigilant watch over the night in the Candy Kingdom.
----
* BlankWhiteEyes: His eyes are like this, but it's rarely seen as they're always closed.
* BadassNormal: Acquired his skills through centuries of constant training rather than just his programming.
* DuelToTheDeath: He fought these against his own kin. Witnessing one of these duels is what drove PB into wiping out Rattleballs' kind.
* EyesAlwaysClosed: Rattleballs and the rest of his line rarely opened their eyes, unless they were startled.
* {{Expy}}: He's a gumball machine on a Cartoon Network show who, [[WesternAnimation/RegularShow like the employees of a certain other gumball machine on a Cartoon Network show]], says the word "[[{{Pun}} eggscelent]]".
* InTheHood: When he first fights Finn, as well as after Princess Bubblegum hires him as a secret knight watch over the Candy Kingdom.
* LastOfHisKind: Bubblegum crushed the rest and attempted to destroy him as well.
* MasterSwordsman: Rattleballs' skill with his rapier is unmatched by anyone in Ooo. His "secret technique" can tear buildings asunder while leaving Finn completely untouched.
* MechaMooks: He and the other Rattleballs were basically an army of candy-sized Gumball Guardians.
* MeaningfulName: See those gumballs? The ones where his testicles would normally be? They rattle.
* TheMentor: He at least tries to teach Finn the way of the sword. While they don't make much progress in his only notable appearance, Finn's shown he's picked up a thing or two from him, such as in "Winter Light".
%%* OldMaster
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: He was built a while after the radioactive river from "Shoko" was gone, but when Bubblegum created him, the Candy Kingdom still wasn't finished and the Banana Guards were still green.
* SecondLawMyAss: He had to use all of his willpower to turn away from the wall, look at the massacre, and escape. This is a rare instance when the trope is given to a good-aligned robot who isn't an {{anti hero}}ic {{jerkass}}.
* SlidingScaleOfRobotIntelligence: Probably a Grade 3, but he makes up for it as a BadassNormal.
* TechnicalPacifist: When Bubblegum thinks he's slain her entire ambush squad, the squad is revealed to be bruised but alive, thus demonstrating both his skill and his self-control.
* ThreeLawsCompliant: He interprets the First Law loosely (see TechnicalPacifist, above), plays the [[ICannotSelfTerminate Third Law]] straight, while the rest of his kind walk straight to the crusher, but...
* TheWorfEffect: His reappearance in "Reboot" has him immediately get crushed by an out of control Susan Strong.

A Candy Person who accompanies Finn, Jake and Bubblegum on a mission.
----
* CastingGag: Andy Merrill plays a {{Manchild}} who is not all there in the head, just like his role as Brak from ''WesternAnimation/SpaceGhostCoastToCoast''.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: He is more than willing to sacrifice himself to save Princess Bubblegum. Even if she's not actually in danger.
* CloudCuckooLander: His behavior is... strange, to say the least.
* TheExile: PB makes him leave the Candy Kingdom after the events of "James II." No one will miss him.
* FakingTheDead: Each clone fakes his death to get medals.
* FusionDance: All of the clones fuse into one being at the end of "James II".
* GloryHound: Each of his clones fake their deaths just to collect medals.
* HeroicSacrifice: He lets himself be killed by the Ooze Monsters so that PB, Finn, and Jake can get away.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: The original reason that he starts faking his death- so that Bubblegum will clone him and he'll have a new friend to hang out with. After that, it just becomes about the medals.
* TheyKilledKennyAgain: He's died defending Bubblegum at least twenty-five times. Or so it seems.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Bubblegum lets him sacrifice himself rather than let Finn do it, because he's made of candy and can be easily cloned, while Finn can't.

* BloodKnight: [[spoiler: He's easily the most eager to go to war with Gumbaldia, to the point where he looks downright disappointed it was stopped in the finale's EndingMontage.]]
* CameBackStrong: Implied. PB says the serum was meant to bring dead candy people back with the same healthy vitality as Finn. CCC may still ''look'' decrepit, but he can definitely fight like a younger...uh, kernel?
* ColonelBadass: Battles Darren's monster soldiers with a saber.
* DaChief: Of the Banana Guards after Root Beer Guy's death.
* TheGeneralissimo: Declares a military dictatorship in the Candy Kingdom when Princess Bubblegum is feared dead.
* MayDecemberRomance: He's looking for one of these, hoping for a "young woman with an old soul".

[[folder:Neddy]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/adventure_time_neddy.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Andres Salaff

A candy dragon who lives in the depths of the Candy Kingdom, suckling on the roots of the candy tree and secreting candy juice that the rest of the Candy Kingdom uses for bathing and healing. He's also Princess Bubblegum's brother.
----
* BigLittleBrother: Only a few seconds younger than Bonnie, but he absolutely dwarfs her in size, which can be seen when she goes to calm him down.
* BlobMonster: Like his sister, he was originally part of a massive wad of gum that PB refers to as "the Mother Gum". He and PB eventually broke away from it and became their own separate beings. Neddy looked quite a lot like a blob even after breaking away from the Mother Gum, and he somehow evolved to look like a dragon.
* ImmortalImmaturity: He's a little younger than Bonnie, but acts very much like a very young frightened child. His sister keeping him in isolation probably contributed to it. He's very fearful of the outside world and is only happy when sucking on the roots of candy trees and being with Bonnie relaxes him.
* MadwomanInTheAttic: PlayedWith; Princess Bubblegum keeps him hidden away, not because she's embarrassed by him, but to keep him safe since he's so sensitive and so terrified of everyone and everything. He really just wants to be left alone to suck on the candy tree roots, which lets him provide the Candy Kingdom with precious candy juice to keep them healthy and clean. Despite this, there was a rumor among the Banana Guards that PB kept him chained up (though this further implies that Neddy's existence isn't even secret). Apparently, [[spoiler: PB's artificial family she made was aware of Neddy's existence and she made them in order to have someone like her to talk to, implying she was a bit overwhelmed when dealing with him when she was younger. Nonetheless, she still loved him and got ''pissed'' when Gumbald threatened him]].
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: He's huge and made of gum, for one thing. He also has tiny wings, his head is upside down, and he secretes precious candy juice by suckling on the roots of the candy tree.
* PoweredByAForsakenChild: The whole kingdom runs on the juices he secretes. He's not really forsaken as much as hiding from the outside world due to being afraid of basically everything that isn't Princess Bubblegum.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Like PB, he's around 827 years old since he was "born" shortly after she was. Not that you could tell at first glance, [[ImmortalImmaturity since he acts like a frightened child most of the time]].
* TheSpeechless: He never actually speaks and can only make various sounds (usually crying or screaming in terror).
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Glimpses of the Candy Kingdom's future leave it uncertain what his fate is.

-->C'mon boys, I made ya'll some Apple Pie!

A cute little elephant with the personality of a senile old woman. She loves apples and baking apple pie.
----
* AnimalsNotToScale: She's a lot smaller than an elephant should be. "Ring of Fire" reveals that this is because she's from Tiny Mammal Kingdom, where ''all'' animals are the same size.
* BabiesMakeEverythingBetter: She seemingly changes her mind about asking Mr. Pig for a divorce when Finn leaves the baby-fied Lich as a DoorstopBaby for them to adopt.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: More due to senility. She occasionally gets names confused, such as Ice King being "Ice Cream" or Earl of Lemongrab as "Lemoncarb".
* CoolOldLady: She may be old and slightly senile, but she's still a great friend to Finn and Jake and can still adventure with them at times.
* DeepSouth: Speaks with a thick hick accent, [[UnexplainedAccent although it's shown that not a lot of characters have synthesized unique accents.]]
* DirtyOldWoman: She is implied to have a PornStash in her closet--which only she can open--and has a crush on the roughly 13-year-old Finn. In "Apple Wedding", it is insinuated that she is an exhibitionist.
* FaceHeelTurn: Though it's only temporary in "Crystals Have Power:.

* GenerationXerox: Shares a lot in common, including looks, with her mother.
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: As Quartzion the Crystal Queen.
* HappilyMarried: To Mr. Pig as of "Apple Wedding".
* InkSuitActor: Based on her voice actor, Polly Lou Livingston, a sweet old lady whom Pen's been friends with since he was a little kid.
* LawfulStupid: In "Apple Thief," she calls the police and tells them to arrest her for allegedly having stolen apples from ''herself''.
* TheMissusAndTheEx: Averted, as Mr.Pig never meets any of her ex-husbands at her wedding.
* OverlyLongName: According to the creators, her gender-swapped version is named "Tree Trunks with Mustache and Bow Tie (Male)".
* {{Polyamory}}: Also has an alien husband, and does not see this as conflicting with her marriage to Mr. Pig.
* ReallyGetsAround: "Ring of Fire" shows that she had a lot of love interests in her youth and that she often left them with little explanation or forethought.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Finn remarks that she's too cute to stay mad at when she kept getting in the way of their quest to find the Crystal Apple for her.
* SerialSpouse: Has been married four times. Not countering her alien husband.
* SickeninglySweethearts:
** With Mr. Pig, to the point that everyone in the Candy Kingdom was grossed out.

* TrueNeutral: InUniverse-assigned alignment in the comic series.
* UnexplainedAccent: She has an east Texan accent, yet no one else on the show does.

[[folder:Sweet P ('''SPOILERS''')]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sweetpadventuretime.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Ethan Maher

Sweet Pig-Trunks, often just called Sweet P, is the Lich's reincarnation after he's splashed with Citadel Guardian's healing blood. He's a giant baby with no memories of being the Lich and is being raised by Tree Trunks and Mr. Pig. However, [[TheCorrupter it seems some small fragment of the Lich is still inside him...]]
----
* AdorableAbomination: A fat, adorable child who happens to have [[EldritchAbomination the Lich]] inside him.
* AmbiguouslyHuman: He has a human skintone, although he's also got a pair of horns. However, considering he's a reincarnation of The Lich, this throws into question if he's even any specific species or race beyond "Humanoid." [[spoiler:By the future time, he's still alive, and has grown to a massive size, something that's applied to nobody else.]]
* AntiAntichrist: Sweet P knows that The Lich was his past life, since the latter told him about it. That said, he basically told The Lich to go screw itself.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Those who threaten Sweet P soon learn that [[DemonicPossession even the small amount of The Lich that remains in him]] is enough to [[MindRape do some pretty horrible stuff to you.]]
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: When the Lich controls him.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:In "Whispers" when he finally has to face the Lich within him.]]
* BigFun: He's fat and good.
* CheerfulChild: You would think that someone who is bullied and is the SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan of the freakin' Lich would be scared or depressed. Nope, Sweet P is one of the happiest kids around on the show.
* TheCutie: As expected from a giant baby.
* DidWeJustHaveTeaWithCthulhu: He is by far the most benevolent incarnation of the Lich [[spoiler: and even becomes Ooo's next defender after Billy's death]].
* DoorstopBaby: Finn and Jake left him there.
* FutureBadass: [[spoiler: Became one in [[GrandFinale "Come Along With Me"]]. The last time we see him, he is an adult with beard and sword and is literally as tall as a mountain.]]
* GentleGiant: One of the tallest and most massive characters in the series, and a friendly CheerfulChild.
* HappilyAdopted: He's the adopted son of Tree Trunks and Mr Pig, [[GoodParents who are great parents]] and he's happy with them.
* HornedHumanoid: He has a pair of curly horns, which serve as the only visual connection between him and the Lich.
* IHatePastMe: A non-time travel variant of this trope, but considering that he's the only incarnation of the Lich to be benevolent, he is not fond of his old self to say the least.
* LegacyCharacter: [[spoiler: The finale suggests that he'll take up a life of adventuring and heroism, eventually becoming Ooo 1000+'s equivalent of Billy.]]
* MindRape: Sweet P can draw upon some of the Lich's powers when emotionally overwhelmed. In "Gold Stars", when King of Ooo and Toronto taunt him, he shows them images of the flaming green comet, the nothingness that existed before reality, and the writhing [[EldritchAbomination monsters]] that existed ''before'' the nothingness that existed before reality. The King of Ooo and Toronto ''claw at their eyes and run away screaming''.
* NiceGuy: An incredibly nice and sweet boy, completely unlike the Lich.
* NoSell: During the "Elements" mini-series, he's shown to be entirely unaffected by the Elemental Contamination plaguing Ooo. Unsurprising, given his nature. The Lump-Purification wave does make his stubbed horn regrow, though.
* RedemptionQuest: Downplayed, but his life after birth was essentially this for the Lich. During his quest, the main threat to completing this quest is [[IHatePastMe his past self, the Lich]].
* OurGiantsAreBigger: [[spoiler:His future self is absolutely humongous, larger than Mount Cragdor.]]
* SmallParentHugeChild: Sweet P is a large baby that towers over the other characters. He is the adoptive son of Mr. Pig and Tree Trunks, who are even shorter than main character Finn the Human.
* WalkingSpoiler: You can't really explain Sweet P's existence without getting into the Lich's ultimate fate.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: He can easily be seen as this for the way he's bullied and manipulated but retains some connection to his Lich personality.

----
* ChasteHero: Due to being born literally a few minutes earlier, when the Rat Knight gives him a choice of love or the magic earth he has, Kent picks the earth without a second thought.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: The party that led to his creation in the first place, along with the fact that Shelby passes out and wakes up from said party not remembering what happened.
* {{Expy}}: He shares many Similarities with Nintendo's Franchise/{{Kirby}}, both are small, round, pink, baby-like characters that go on an adventure blissfully to defeat a nightmarish villain.
* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: Kent just sort of comes into being, and its unknown whether or not this just happens with a worms body pieces being cut, or if there was some outside influence behind his.
* SortingAlgorithmOfMortality: Lampshades that he has no real sense of mortality, and slides between areas 1 and 2 of the scale.
* {{Troll}}: His parting words to Jake are, and quote ''Someday, you'll be Kent's food.'' end quote; afterwards he scoots away laughing goofily. He seems to have grown out of it rather quickly though.
