** Subverted in the ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries'' episode "The Man Who Killed Batman". Sid the Squid always wanted to be a big shot in the Underworld and seems to get his wish as he seemingly kills Batman--only for several criminals to try to kill him so they can say they killed the guy who killed Batman, the Joker to try to kill him for taking away killing Batman from ''[[TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou him]]'', and Rupert Throne to think that the hapless guy really trying to make a move against Throne when Sid comes to him for help and attempt to kill Sid himself. However, as it turns out Batman was merely FakingTheDead and saved Sid and captures Sid. The subverted part? Even though Sid is sent to prison, he's greeted to the sound of cheers from inmates who welcome the man who almost killed the Dark Knight and made idiots out of the Joker and Throne, leading Sid to feel like he finally made it in spite of being in the slammer.
** ''WesternAnimation/BatmanBeyond'':
*** In "Disappearing Inque", Aaron Herbst, who worked at Gotham Cryogenics is infatuated with the frozen shapeshifter Inque, [[ConverseWithTheUnconscious and talks to her in her inert state about his unfulfilling life]]. After he kisses the ice-block, he's caught on camera in the act and is fired. He then frees Inque and begs her to have a similar mutation. [[AndIMustScream She does, but only in half-state, making him barely able to move or speak]]. After Inque's defeat, [[LaserGuidedKarma he ends up in Gotham Cryogenics in the same situation on the other end with a female caretaker, with the camera filming her conversation with him]].
*** In "Terry's Friend Dates a Robot", Terry's friend Howard asks for a sythoid girlfriend who is "totally devoted" to him. She turns out to be [[{{Yandere}} dangerously]] [[ClingyJealousGirl possessive]], and uses her [[SuperpoweredRobotMeterMaids enhanced strength]] to attack people she perceives as threatening him or getting between him and her.
** In the ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeague'' episode Hereafter, Superman is catapulted into a BadFuture where the Justice League, and later all of humanity were wiped out by ComicBook/VandalSavage. Savage severely regrets his win, finding that ruling a dead Earth is meaningless, and actually helps Superman go back in time to stop himself from getting what he thinks he wants.

* ''WesternAnimation/TheSpectacularSpiderMan'': In "Group Therapy", Peter has to deal with Doc Ock forming his Sinister Six and ends up outclassed. After a rough day, he goes to sleep, saying "I wish I could just wake up tomorrow, with Doc and his merry morons back in jail." The Symbiote, whom he was with at the time, grants said wish... by ''puppeting'' Peter's sleeping body to fight against the Six (which it does manage to win), which leaves Peter both exhausted and more susceptible to the manipulations of the symbiote (which include being too ill-tempered to talk to JJJ, who called to inform him that his aunt has been hospitalized from a heart attack.)

* ''WesternAnimation/UltimateSpiderman'': The main arc of season one is that Norman Osborn wants to either have Spider-Man's powers, or control a being with those powers (which is why he had Dr. Octopus create Venom). In the season's WhamEpisode, Dr. Octopus [[TheDogBitesBack turns on Norman and injects him]] with the serum that turns him into the Green Goblin. He has the powers he always wanted, but at the cost of his sanity and humanity.
--> '''Norman''': What did you '''''do?'''''
--> '''Dr. Octopus''': [[LampshadeHanging I just gave you everything you ever wanted, Norman]]. Consider ''this'' my resignation.

* ''WesternAnimation/YoungJustice2010'': In "Misplaced", Zatanna tells Artemis how she wished her HelicopterParents would give her some space. The very next second, her father (and the rest of the adults) disappear before them. [[spoiler: At the end of the episode, Zatara sacrifices himself so that Nabu wouldn't possess Zatanna. She may never get her father back.]]
** [[spoiler: Cut to Season 2; we get a confirmation...[[TearJerker She didn't]].]]

* ''WesternAnimation/TheMagicKey'': In every episode, Floppy would think a sentence beginning with "I wish...", which would cause the key to activate, whisking Floppy (and whichever of the children were around him at the time) off to some magical land tangentially related to the wish. * ''WesternAnimation/GarfieldAndFriends'': In one episode, Garfield found a wishing well and wished there were no more Mondays. At first, when he learned the wish became true, he was happy. A few weeks later, Garfield felt the drawbacks of a world without Mondays: the streets were full of garbage because garbagemen only came at Mondays; gyms that used to be open for all days of the week were closed; movie theaters never showed new movies because they only changed their movies at Mondays; Jon couldn't buy more food because he always received his paychecks at Mondays; and he always made lasagna at Mondays. Being a BigEater, the two last bits were what horrified Garfield the most. He then returned to the wishing well, desperately asking for the Mondays to be back. The well refused and threatened to remove other stuff, until the well's mother, who revealed they were actually aliens who look like wells, forced him to restore everything back to normal. Garfield then started loving Mondays. At least until he was reminded of why he hated them in the first place.
** In another episode Garfield gets a fairy godfather who grants him three wishes. The first wish is for lasagna, which the godfather steals from a nearby chef. The chef immediately suspects Garfield and takes it back. Then Garfield wishes for money to buy lasagna with. The godfather zaps in money from a bank and Garfield is promptly thrown in jail.

** In "City People", Cartman's mom, Liane, gets a job as a real estate agent since the rent on their house has gone up. Unsurprisingly, Cartman is ''not'' thrilled about this since it means she won't be around to take care of him 24/7 and spends the entire episode sabotaging her so she'll quit, refusing to listen when Liane says she ''needs'' the job so they don't wind up homeless. Indeed, once she does finally quit, they lose their house and are forced to move into a cramped hot dog diner.
** The above episode starts an arc spanning most of the next two seasons where all Cartman wants is his house back. Then, in "[=DikinBaus=] Hot Dogs", he decides to screw Butters out of a substantial amount of money to convert the hot dog diner into his dream home. Butters, however, gets ''very'' pissed about this and works his ass off to make all the money back, then pays for Cartman and Liane to move back into their old house, giving Cartman exactly what he wants after he no longer wants it. Cue an epic and very well deserved VillainousBreakdown from Cartman as Liane drags him, literally kicking and screaming, out of the diner and leaves him sobbing hysterically in his bedroom.
