** For context, the challenge was "The Last Gasp", which is basically a ''drowning simulation.'' It's historically been seen as one of the toughest challenges in Survivor history (something Jeff calls attention to when he says that this was from the days "we inflicted a little more pain" on the castaways).

** To cap it all off, as Owen and Karla continue to hang on, gradually outlasting the ocean and making Survivor history, [[TitleThemeDrop Ancient Voices starts to fade into the background soundtrack]].

* Kenzie had been planning to blindside Tiff for several rounds, but after Hunter's blindside, Kenzie hesitates and decides to target Q as he's an easy vote. Maria, who wants to protect Q, proceeds to hijack Kenzie's plan and somehow convinces Ben and Liz, the two people who hate Q most, to vote with her to take out Tiff. Even when Charlie suggests looping in Venus instead of Liz, Maria points out that Venus is too unpredictable and would likely leak the plan just to cause drama and Liz can be trusted to think logically even when she's upset. Maria's instincts turn out to be right and Tiff goes home with an idol in her pocket.

* Throughout episode 9, every single player makes it clear that they refuse to tolerate Q's actions at the episode 8 tribal council, and nearly every single one gets a moment to demonstrate just how much he screwed up. Unlike other New Era seasons where unpredictable and chaotic players like Deshawn and Mike were forgiven and brought back into alliances and groups after blowing up the game, Q is afforded no patience or tolerance for his selfish and destructive actions. A few notable examples:
** Tiff gives Q an opportunity to explain himself, and once she realizes how sanctimonious and unpredictable he is, immediately terminates their alliance and refuses to even speak with him through the following round.
** Q attempts to pull Kenzie into an alliance with him by telling her about the Journey 6 Alliance and how Tiff hid her idol from Kenzie, hoping Kenzie would turn on Tiff out of anger. Kenzie points out that Q also kept those secrets from her and refuses to buy into his obvious attempt to turn her against Tiffany, leaving him with no rebuttal. She later reveals in confessional that she was already planning to betray Tiff at some point and makes it clear that when she does so, she'll keep Q out of the loop to ensure he can't claim any credit for influencing her.
** When the immunity challenge comes up, the players are divided into teams of three, and they deduce it will be an elimination challenge where the players compete as a team before an individual section. Q attempts to talk Charlie into sandbagging his own team to make Hunter vulnerable. Not only is Charlie utterly disgusted Q would even suggest such a dishonorable move, he proceeds to beat Hunter anyway, fair and square.
** Ben gives Q a polite, but withering TheReasonYouSuckSpeech at tribal council, shutting down Q's attempt to make the tribal about him again.
--> '''Ben:''' It's one thing if you mess your own game up and have to work your way up from the bottom. That's Survivor. But then to make a comment saying, "I'm gonna give y'all a fresh start so now you can play a REAL game," was the biggest slap in the face as if nobody's been working together, as if he's the only guy running the show. Even right now is a show. There's a way to play the game. There's a way to deceive, outwit, outlast, outshred, whatever, and now it's like, here we are again, giving him just as much time as he had yesterday.

* Dee outmaneuvering Drew and Austin not once, but ''twice'', when they try to take out Julie. First, by telling Julie of the plan and advising her to use the idol Austin gave her against them, taking out their ally Emily. And then, flipping on Drew and voting with Julie, Jake, and Katurah to take him out - all while Austin believes Dee never told Julie the plan and was still with him. And in the latter vote, she also denied Jake the opportunity to make a move by preventing his attempts to force rocks.
* Austin finally getting his way and taking Julie out in Final Five, albeit due to Katurah's paranoia regarding Jake causing her to switch her vote from Dee to Julie.
* Dee winning the last immunity challenge, never once dropping her plates. She ends the season with the most immunity wins.
* Jake beating Katurah in fire-making, finally getting the opportunity to take the game in his hands and eliminating the person who had repeatedly stopped his attempts in making a move. Especially impressive in that Austin and Dee initially had (reasonable) doubts of his ability to make fire, and he ends up beating her handedly in the end.
* The Final Tribal, where Dee and Austin verbally battle each other as they make their respective cases as to why they should be the Sole Survivor. Neither give the other an inch, and up until the end, they were relatively dead even... until ''Emily'' drops the bombshell that Austin was unaware of: [[WhamLine that Dee DID tell Julie his plans to keep her safe]], when he had believed, despite evidence to the contrary, that she never did. And when Dee delves more into it, you can see the fight in Austin ''die'' as he realizes he was outplayed. And it was because of that one move that Dee gets the edge on him, winning the title of Sole Survivor in a 5-3-0 vote.

* Over the course of the first three episodes, Emily went from barely escaping being the first boot due to Hannah's self-elimination, to making amends with her tribe, greatly improving her social game, and then being the swing vote for episode 3 and saving Kaleb (her original target from episode 1) by revealing his other allies were about to blindside him. One of the most impressive Survivor character arcs since Robb Zbacnik in Thailand.

RIP Rudy

** How badass was Rudy? ''He immediately applied for season 2.'' He eventually would return in All Stars, setting the record for oldest castaway at the age of ''75.'' He was even willing to play on ''Heroes vs Villains'' when he was in his early 80s. The guy is a beast!

* The final tribal council was itself an Awesome and Heartwarming one. Throughout the game, you could see the jurors shooting the occasional glare towards the players. The jurors sure enough called out all three finalists for their behaviour in-game... and yet despite that, emotions didn't flare. [[GracefulLoser Everyone was amazingly graceful]]. Yam-Yam, Heidi, and Carolyn didn't insult the jurors or each other, sometimes even built ''each other'' up, too. Probst admitted he was quite amazed - because he was used to some ''very'' [[ItsPersonal personal attacks]] and spirited juries. The jury of 44 held all three finalists accountable - without insulting them.
