** '''''The most powerful Metroid in the universe'''''.

!!Meta

* The sheer creativity of the game and its environment. The world of Tallon IV feels real and diverse, and every single form of life and most objects in the game can be scanned for intimate details.
* The bosses knock it out of the park; one of the very first ones is a complex scenario in its own right. It's a machine that releases bees, which in any other Nintendo game would be a nuisance at best. In this game, however, this machine has been sheltering a subspecies of giant wasp that ''utilize complex battle strategies''. The Ram War Wasps circle Samus at high speed, ignoring every rule in the MookChivalry book by attacking a) from behind, b) while their peers are still circling, and c) in pairs and threes. The design of the area indicates it was likely a training ground for young Chozo warriors, except that since the fall of the Chozo, the water that floods the area has become corrosive enough to kill someone of Samus' caliber in seconds. ''That'' is how you make a fight against bugs fun.
* The art design in general. Despite ''Metroid'' being based on 70s and 80s sci-fi, its look hasn't become dated the way movies like Film/{{Alien}} or Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries have. Retro studios nailed a sci-fi look that straddles the line and stays modern.

!!Achievements

* Among critics and audiences alike, ''Metroid Prime'' is a common contender for '''Best Game of All Time''', right up there with VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime and VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoIV. Among Metroid titles, only VideoGame/SuperMetroid ever manages to contend with it for fans' favorite title. The kicker is that this was achieved by an unknown and unproven studio, Retro, for whom it was their debut project (all their other projects ended up cancelled). It was a game that fought incredible cynicism from the first look, only to blow the gaming world wide open and give ''Metroid'' a fighting chance among Nintendo's other titles.
* The graphical quality of this game is downright futuristic. It's quite telling that ''twenty years'' after it was made, it still looks better visually than some other games coming out. The Remastered version ups this even more, taking what little gaps there were in Retro's flawless graphics flex and filling them in, fine-tuning the whole thing to make sure it stays one of Nintendo's most beautiful games ever.
* How good is Metroid Prime? It became the best-selling game in the series. And ''Remastered'' proves that it might could just do this twice; it was a shadow drop at an early-year Nintendo Direct, immediately available digitally and a hit on the market, but its physical release was so anticipated that copies had to be delayed and re-stocked, so many weren't able to get their hands on it on time. Even still, the physical release alone (Nintendo doesn't release digital sales data for their games) [[https://www.gamesindustry.biz/hogwarts-legacy-narrowly-denies-metroid-prime-remastered-no1-uk-boxed-charts was only beaten on the UK charts by]] VideoGame/HogwartsLegacy, despite releasing in full a whole month after the digital version.

* A [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic musical]] Moment of Awesome comes in the Prime 1, when you get to the Magmoor Caverns. When those ominous male vocals first kick in and you're probably thinking "[[VideoGame/SuperMetroid Shades of Norfair]], eh?" Then the door opens into the cavern complex proper, and that [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQCZIb0fbt8 familiar drumbeat kicks in...]] Goosebumps.

** Getting the basic Wave Beam is a minor awesome moment. Shortly after obtaining it, you blast up a bunch of formerly invincible enemies (the Bombus). And it’s charge shot is very useful in your first real fight with the Space Pirates themselves.

** The very best moment with the said Wavebuster is when you just get it. You are probably itching to use it in a firefight, and when you do. You blast up a bunch of formerly invincible enemies.

** '''''The most powerful Metroid in the universe'''''.
* One for Retro and Nintendo here. '''NOBODY''' thought this game was going to work. Even level-headed fans and critics were tearing into it before it came out, with claims that not only would it not feel like ''Franchise/{{Metroid}}'' but would at best be a mediocre shooter. Nowadays, it and its two sequels are ranked amongst the greatest games in history.

* A meta example of how successful Metroid Prime really was. It is cited as being the progenitor of the "First-Person Adventure" genre, shattering expectations when it was released and is still consider the MagnumOpus of the series.
** To really drive this point home, this is not only the best-selling Metroid game, period, but it is the 7th best-seller on the [=GameCube=] (2.82 million copies). That's UNHEARD of in this franchise. Considering the troubling workspace Retro was under, that's a massive achievement that shouldn't be taken lightly.
* The simple ANNOUNCEMENT of Metroid Prime 4 for Nintendo Switch at Nintendo's E3 2017 is a moment of awesome in itself, nearly a decade after the 3rd game.

* The fight with the Omega Pirate is amazing, when you think about it - after facing dangerous wildlife, as cunning as they may be, Samus still hadn't faced anything with true sapient intelligence on Tallon IV yet. The Omega Pirate is no mindless beast, making use of lethal strategy and calling for backup from Beam Troopers to wear Samus down. He even seems to yell at one point "Finish her!" in English, and laughs at Samus while he's invisible. As cool as it is to see Samus take on violent predators, nothing beats a brawl with a proud and intelligent warrior.

* ''Another'' musical moment of awesome is when you finally reach the Artifact Temple. You get ready to enter the Impact Crater and finish the Metroid Prime...but then the camera angle changes, zooming out as a fully remixed version of '''''[[https://youtu.be/ABQv__t_GCA Ridley's theme]]''''' suddenly kicks in. You don't even need to guess what happens in the cutscene, because of that iconic theme - and as any veteran of the series up to this point knows, a fight with Ridley means ''[[ThatOneBoss a hell of a time.]]''

** Second is ''Ridley'', at the climax of his fight with Samus at the Artifact Temple. When Ridley is recoiling, but not dead, you watch as the eyes of the statues on the Temple start to burn red, then fire lasers straight at his chest, sending him hurtling off the edge to a nasty not-death. ''Take that'', you murdering bastard!

* When Meta Ridley is incapacitated by Samus, and the Chozo statues shoot him off the artefact site with energy beams. Not only is it an awesome spectacle, but Meta Ridley gets his comeuppance here for all the problems he caused for the Chozo and this planet. However, he was not quite dead...

to:

* On a specific tablet in the Artifact Temple is written a Chozo log about their devotion to their sacred sites and works. Strangers who respect those works are welcomed as friends, but the tablet warns that those that deface or destroy them will suffer. This is proven twice over in the game:
** First, a Pirate log in the Phazon Mines notes that operations in the local ruins have been met with massive losses, describing nightmarish attacks that the player will by now be familiar with. It's quite cathartic to note that the Pirates, monsters with no respect for the dead that they are, have incurred the wrath of the local DemonicSpiders and proven quite susceptible.
