* When Maurice tells Clive that he is in love with Alec, both versions. It's shorter in the movie than in the novel and with a bit altered dialogue, but, courtesy of James Wilby, Maurice is positively aglow when he speaks about Alec and says they have "shared everything". It's not only awesome because of the certainty he has about his love but also because he's no longer willing to cling to Clive and the norms Clive tries to hold him up to. From the novel:

* In a way, the character of Maurice's hypnotherapist Lasker-Jones, in the movie. Sure, his job is to fix Maurice's homosexuality, and he is stern about the matter -- but he told Maurice from the beginning that the chances of "healing" are actually pretty low, and he advises him later on to give up the attempts and move into a place where homosexuality isn't a crime. Also, when Maurice asks him whether he thinks that would ever be the case in England, he states that England "has always been disinclined to accept human nature". He right out said that homosexuality is absolutely natural!

* The scene (especially in the novel) in which Maurice realizes that Scudder had given up everything for him and when he goes to the boathouse to reunite with his love. One can just hear epic music in their head when reading this part.

--> Maurice: I was yours once till death if you'd cared to keep me, but I'm someone else's now - I can't hang about whining forever - and he's mine in a way that shocks you, but why don't you stop being shocked and attend to your own happiness?
