** As all of this is happening, Shiba sneaks Hakuri and himself into the Naginojoen to access the Sazanami's emergency door. With all four members of the Tou defending the door, Shiba concocts a plan to remove their best warrior before engaging the remaining three. Hakuri uses himself as bait to lure Soya away, leading him toward Chihiro as Shiba [[CasualDangerDialogue casually confronts the Tou]].
** Before Hakuri can reach Chihiro, an unprecedented element throws their plan into brief chaos: what looks to be a random unarmed criminal in a suit suddenly blocks Chihiro's strike. Then a familiar tree Sorcery blocks Hakuri off, and Chihiro gets [[WhamShot a look at his tattooed hand]]. For the first time, Chihiro is confronted by a member of the Hishaku.
*** He instantly reveals himself as the [[BigBad leader]] of the Hishaku, and shows the gap in their abilities immediately. Without direct Sorcery, he effortlessly outpaces Chihiro, unleashing a fury of punches and kicks and casually grabbing the few sword strikes at risk of hitting him. Even when Chihiro regroups and begins to turn the fight around with the lasts flares of Kuregumo's power, the Hishaku is utterly unfazed and uses his own injuries to continue the fight, throwing his severed arm at Chihiro and spitting blood in his eye when he is stabbed. His tone indicates he truly [[MajorInjuryUnderreaction has no concerns about his state]] or losing the battle and only duly notes Chihiro's skill.
---->'''Hishaku Leader:''' ''(holding his severed arm)'' Don't you want to continue?
** Hakuri is cornered by his brother Soya due to the Hishaku's tree wall, and his second attempt at an Isou again fails to produce a result. As his brother psychotically beats him down, he recalls Shiba telling him his issue with Sorcery is mental from his family's lack of faith in him due to being late in development compared to his siblings. With this, and words of support from Chihiro ringing in his mind, he steadies himself and successfully knocks the wind out of his brother with his first successful Isou. This distracts Soya long enough for [[BigDamnHeroes Chihiro to come crashing through the tree wall and disable Soya with a slash to the back]], leaving the Hishaku and his immediate need for revenge behind to help his allies win the day.

* Chihiro and Sojo's climactic second duel, in only twelve seconds (which is kept track of throughout the chapter) both men pull out all of the stops with their Sacred Blades to try and kill one another.
** Chihiro realizes Sojo's actually ''faster'' than him now with Cloud Gouger's heightened potential, but Chihiro is able to keep himself alive after Sojo gains the advantage by letting his arm be cut off to alter his trajectory.
** Sojo tries the same counterattack strategy which put him on the winning end of their previous duel, only for Chihiro to reveal he thought through a way to counter the attack if he tried it again. He feints a finishing attack with Nishiki to bait Sojo, before canceling it out and closing the gap for his real finishing attack with the proceeding opening, cleaving Cloud Gouger, and Sojo after it, in half with all of his remaining spirit energy.
** Throughout the fight, Sojo and Chihiro "converse" with each other in a mental world where they challenge each other's beliefs in wielding a Sacred Blade. * Genichi Sojo demonstrates that he, like Chihiro, has ThePowerOfHate when the empath's brother tries to use the same power on him in Chapter 8, showing him a disturbing vision of a child bathing in the blood of hanged men and he ''{{No Sell}}s'' it, practically relishing the bloodshed.
* When Sojo and Chihiro clash in Chapters 9 and 10, Chihiro not only uses Enten's "Red" ability to deflect Sojo's lightning attacks without a single civilian casualty (which is remarked upon by Kamunabi members as being incredibly impressive) but also knows--because his father made the sword Sojo's using--that he has an opening to retaliate while the attack recharges and comes within a hair's breadth of ending Sojo.

''Kagurabachi'' aims for visual flair from early on with spectacular panels of people getting sliced up with katanas and other cool sorceror powers.

* Right from Chapter 1, Chihiro effortlessly uses the "Black" ability of his enchanted blade to slice up mooks who outnumber him twenty to one.
* Shiba demonstrates his teleportation powers in Chapter 2 when a mob boss explodes as a trap, being extremely nonchalant about it right down to CasualDangerDialogue, demonstrating that he's a lot more skilled than it would seem.
* A daruma-wielding mook uses ''[[ImprobableWeaponUser disposable chopsticks]]'' to murder a shopkeeper when his patience runs out.
