* FamilyUnfriendlyAesop: Quite a few aesops that are typically shown as being negative as spun to give a positive twist. Such as envy, Fudou says that envy can either make someone attempt play dirty or use it as a huge motivator. Cue Sirius, using his envy for fuel along with the other two pilots, and spines his Aquarion around to make a monster of a storm and defeat the monster of the day.

* FreakyFridayFlip: Played with ''[[CrowningMomentOfFunny gloriously]]'' in the "Cosplay of the Soul" episode.

* FreudWasRight: One episode has Pierre show "addiction" to combining (yes, really). To cope, he takes a cup and a cup holder and ''repeatedly'' inserts the cup into the cup holder. He is also seen in that episode doing similar motions with a pen and its cap.
** And to add to the double entendre, he spends his entire class staring at his female classmates (never the males). Granted, he is the HandsomeLech, but it is strongly suggested that this extreme is due to the addiction.

* Ho Yay: This show is purposely RIFE with it. Examples are: Baron and Apollo; Touma and Apollonius; Jun and Pierre; and Sirius and Apollo. [[spoiler: mostly because Sirius is half of the reincarnation of Apollo's past life's soulmate; therefore, Sirius -along with Silvia- is Apollo's soulmate.]]

* LesYay: Tsugumi sees Reika with [[LoveBubbles love background]] (flowers and sparkles) in one scene, and generally crushes on her. Unfortunately, Tsugumi's PsychicPowers react to her flusterment, so [[HilarityEnsues splodiness ensues]].

* HandsomeLech: Pierre, though [[YourMileageMayVary one could argue]] he's really more of a ChivalrousPervert.
** He's definitely a ChivalrousPervert later on, especially after his CharacterFocus episode dealing with his first love Esperanza (this was the same episode with [[MadnessMantra Dribble. Dribble. Dribble! Dribble! DRIBBLE! DRIBBLE!]] '''[[WhatDoYouMeanItsNotAwesome DRIBBLE!!!]]''' FYI), complete with him recovering from a short-HeroicBSOD to save her and ultimately move on with his life (Pierre notes that his dependency on women was produced by his fear of being hurt). By the time of the GrandFinale, he tries to comfort Sophia, and despite becoming rosy-cheeked and flustered when she compliments him on his [[CharacterDevelopment maturity]], Pierre ultimately does not make an advance. In fact, he manages to win over Chloe in the end.

* HopelessSuitor: Otoha, TheDragon to Touma, is [[IncrediblyLamePun head-over-wings]] for him and her loyalty ''[[UndyingLoyalty knows no bounds]]'' for the one man she loves. While he does return her affections to a certain degree (he even goes as far as to ''kiss'' her at one point; whether or not it was a genuine display or him manipulating her is [[YourMileageMayVary up to you]]), Touma has made it clear that he'll sacrifice her without a moment's hesitation should she become a liability or present an opportunity to get an advantage over the humans (as seen when the Shadow Angels attempted to retrieve a feather belonging to their civilization), a fact that Otoha herself is more than aware of. However, her knowledge of Touma's love for Apollonius seems to be variable; [[PingPongNaivete at times, she's depressed because she knows she'll never woo him away from Apollonius; at others, she's confident that Touma has abandoned such foolish feelings]]. Any half-ass excuse he makes about his feelings towards Apollonius are '''''DAMNABLE LIES'''''. 'Tis a shame; Otoha [[EvilIsSexy is actually quite the looker]] (perhaps excluding [[spoiler:the [[ExtraEyes extra set of]] MismatchedEyes she hides under her hood]]) and [[spoiler:ultimately dies fighting for him]].

* HotAmazon: An in-universe example: Apollo and Pierre constantly refer to Silvia as "Amazon", albeit it would seem to be a sarcastic running joke at times. YourMileageMayVary on Silvia, but [[spoiler:her half-former life]] Celiane would definitely fit the bill. A HotAmazon ''and'' a HotChickWithASword...

As soon as the Aquarion pilots first engage the Shadow Angels, however, they promptly get their asses handed to them, and crash-land near the place where two Element Users were investigating rumors of a possible reincarnation of Apollonius. The supposed reincarnation, Apollo, [[FallingIntoTheCockpit climbs into the robot]] and pilots it to a first victory against the Shadow Angels, losing his {{Nakama}} to them in the process. He then joins DEAVA, the organization which handles the Aquarion and Element Users, in the hopes of finding his friends and bringing them back.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite being the possible {{reincarnation}} of LeeroyJenkins and having his fair share of {{jerkass}} moments towards the other Element Users (then again, most of them ostracized him to varying degrees over the course of the series), Apollo has made it clear that his friends are the most important friends to him. In fact, [[spoiler:when Touma offers an EquivalentExchange to sacrifice Silvia and Sirius in order to return the recently-killed Baron back to life, Apollo ''vehemently refuses''. That's right; he denied himself the return of his ''best friend'' to save his new {{nakama}}.]]

* {{Nakama}}: The Element Users, and especially important for Apollo, who puts friendship before everything else. Rena [[spoiler:is a ReallySevenHundredYearsOld vampire?]] Who cares, she's my friend. Sirius and Silvia [[spoiler:are [[HalfHumanHybrid part-Shadow Angel]]?]] Who cares, they're my friends. And so on and so forth.
** This is also important to Fudou, who gets mightily pissed [[spoiler:when Apollo destroys the shield protecting Daeva from the Datenshi in an effort to save Baron. He gets pissed at everyone criticizing Apollo for doing this, going so far as to say anyone who abandons his/her friends has no place in Daeva.]]

Flash forward to TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture. Eleven years after a catastrophe known as the Great Incident ravaged Earth and gifted a few young people with PsychicPowers, the Shadow Angels awaken, and start harvesting humans all around the world. Ordinary militaries are unable to stop them, and it's up to the aforementioned young people (referred to as "Element Users") to stop the Angels, using an ancient Atlandian weapon: the Aquarion, a SuperRobot which [[CombiningMecha is the combination]] of three different flying machines called Vectors (causing the three pilots to [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything join their souls and spiritual bodies into one]]).

* EveryGirlIsCuterWithHairDecs: Tsugumi.

* CallingYourAttacks: "''MUGEN PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANCH!''" (and this is one of the ''less silly'' attacks).
** On the contrary, the Mugen Punch is among the most awesome of Aquarion's moves.

* RocketPunch: Solar Aquarion's Mugen Punch has the spirit of this trope, except it never actually detaches. Instead, it has an ''infinite'' number of extendable arm segments [[TelescopingRobot packed inside each other]].

* TelescopingRobot: Again, Aquarion Sol's Mugen Punch.

* OrIsIt: After Pierre deals with his addiction problem, Jun is shown displaying the same symptoms, and even caps off the OnTheNext dialogue with an anguished scream. [[SubvertedTrope nothing of the sort happens in the next episode or ever again]].
