* FreudianExcuse: Jill had been stripped of her royal status when found as a norma and shipped off to Arzenal at age 10, and her first attempt at Libertas ended in failure [[spoiler:thanks to Embryo]]. She gets better by the end of the series.

** Julio claims to Liza that their parents have always favored Ange over him and he got jealous of it.
** Hilda was taken away from her mother and sent to Arzenal eleven years ago, and had been plotting to escape for years, which partly involved getting in Zola's inner circle, even if it meant doing nasty things.

If it later had serious lesbian relationships shown in full then it's not this trope

* BaitAndSwitchLesbians: [[YuriFan Fans hoping for serious lesbian romance]] were sorely disappointed when Tusk quickly turned into Ange's main love interest, on account of being one of the rare guys in the show and TheOneGuy of the heroes. In general, romantic relationships between women seem to be used mostly for titillation, and then even those often turn sour after a while. [[spoiler:This changes by the final few episodes, which put forth two lesbian relationships (Ange and Hilda, then Chris and Rosalie) quite seriously without any fetishization. Ange even throws in a little aesop about changing the world that doesn't accept that kind of love to reassure Hilda that she needs her as much as Tusk.]]
