* WouldHurtAChild: In the first episode, before adopting her, Rei tells Kazuki that he can ''shoot through'' Miri to kill their target. Kazuki, however, does not hold this view.

Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa are friends, roommates, and assassins, working together to take down high-profile targets at the behest of professional contracts. When working a hit on a human trafficker during a Christmas party, their latest job is nearly derailed by Miri Unasaka, an innocent and fearless four-year-old girl in search of her father, whom she's never met. The duo barely manage to complete the assassination and keep Miri alive, only to discover that not only does she now think Kazuki is her papa, but her real father was the man they successfully killed. Now, Kazuki and Rei must find a balance between the bloody, dangerous lives they live as criminals and taking care of Miri as her foster parents, no matter how much trouble she unintentially causes for them and how much danger she gets herself into.

* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Miri initially has trouble making friends at daycare because the other kids are intimidated by her fancy wardrobe. This is averted after she gets some regular clothes and Kazuki helps her break the ice with a game of kickball.

''Buddy Daddies'' is a 2023 anime produced by Creator/PAWorks about criminal contractor/coordinator, Kazuki Kurusu, his best friend and roommate, Rei Suwa, and Miri, the little girl who wanders into their lives.

Kazuki and Rei are forced to learn to become parents and balance their "work" with their newfound family life.

* RealityEnsues: The dads quickly discover that enrolling Miri in daycare requires a lot of paperwork and interviews, in addition to scouring all the necessary supplies together.

* AssholeVictim: The human trafficker that is episode 1's target. Not only because of his job, but he also takes a (as far as he knows) random little girl hostage at gunpoint. That she was his ''own daughter'', even if he was unaware of this fact, makes it all the more karmic. The karma only gets added to later on, when it's revealed that Miri was the result of him having an extramarital affair with an woman and abandoning her after she got pregnant.

* AssholeVictim: The human trafficker that is episode 1's target. Not only because of his job, but he also takes a (as far as he knows) random little girl hostage at gunpoint. That she was his ''own daughter'', even if he was unaware of this fact, makes it all the more karmic. The karma only gets added to later on, when it's revealed that Miri was the result of him sexually assaulting a woman and abandoning her after she got pregnant.

* BlastingItOutOfTheirHands: Rei often shoots people in the arm or legs.

* DisappearedDad:
** Kazuki himself is this, as he left the woman he was with and his unborn daughter. He sends them all the money from his jobs, however, keeping him from being a deadbeat dad, although his wife isn't happy about it. Because of this, he has a soft spot for children in general.
** Miri's biological father who abandoned Miri's mother after she became pregnant with Miri. Neither of them recognizes the other during the chaos at the Christmas party where he puts a gun to her head.
** Kazuki has his own, being an orphan who never found out who his birth parents were.

* HasTwoDaddies: Miri, as part of the series' premise. Kazuki and Rei end up adopting her after realizing they just killed her real father.

* HypocriticalHumor: Kazuki tells Rei that unless he's ready to accept the responsibilities of taking care of a cat, he can't keep bringing home strays. Then after Kazuki brings Miri home (admittedly after a bunch of unplanned stuff happening in the moment), Rei lampshades how he can take in a kid while he can't take in any strays.

* ChildrenAreInnocent: Miri, despite wandering into an active firefight in Episode 1, seems entirely oblivious to the violence going on around her, and is just focused on finding out which man is her father while people are being murdered and guns are going off around her. She doesn't even understand she's in danger when being held at gunpoint, to the point where she ''pokes the gun's barrel'' in curiosity.
* DisappearedDad: Kazuki himself is this, as he left the woman he was with and his unborn daughter. He sends them all the money from his jobs, however, keeping him from being a deadbeat dad, although his wife isn't happy about it. Because of this, he has a soft spot for children in general.

* FirstEpisodeTwist: Not really a twist, since it's fairly obvious what's going to happen, but Kazuki and Rei adopt Miri after assassinating her father who she was trying to meet.

* MsFanservice: Carol and Dorothy, two girls that Kazuki knows who work at a casino. We're introduced to them wearing skimpy Christmas outfits, and their job is to get men to gamble at their establishment - Kazuki seems to have a habit of falling for it.

** In the first episode, Rei tries to adopt a stray cat he finds on the street, even buying several boxes of cat food for it, before Kazuki points out to him that caring for another being like that takes more than feeding it, the kind of care a shut-in like Rei can't provide. Despite putting it back on the street, Kazuki checks up on the cat later on with tinned cat food to make sure it's ok, looking pleased when it's apparently been picked up since then.
** A random goon guarding one of Kazuki and Rei's targets helps Miri to the bathroom after she rings the compound's doorbell [[PottyEmergency begging to use the toilet]]. .
* ParentalAbandonment: The daddies spend the second and third episodes trying to find Miri's mom, only for it to turn out that she never wanted her and bluntly insulting Kazuki to his face for thinking that she did.
* PickyEater: Miri isn't a big fan of Kazuki's hamburg steak and prefers her mother's, which turns out to be the cheap store brand. Rei also prefers store-bought goods to Kazuki's cooking, much to the latter's annoyance.

** Miri's mother confesses that she wanted to hit Miri every time she heard her laughing, though it's unclear if she ever actually acted on these desires.
