While Torenthi Deryni are strongly represented, perhaps prepondurant, in Church and State the human people of Torenth do not seem to feel oppressed by or fearful of Deryni as Deryni. Those who serve Deryni lords are perfectly willing to lend themselves to magical operations and it is implied that power conferring rituals - such as Bran Coris's - are a common method of recruiting arcane allies.
