Here is Bash At The Beach 2000 as Mac Phisto understands it: Russo wanted Hogan to lose to Jeff Jarrett cleanly, and then just have him wait out the rest of his contract off television. Hogan rationalized that if they really had no intention of keeping him around, they might as well get the most mileage out of him as they can. His plan was that he would defeat Jarrett for the World title and then immediately "retire". A huge tournament would then be held to determine a new champion. Once crowned, Hogan would return and claim to be the true WCW champion. They would have a unification match at Halloween Havoc, where Hogan would put over whoever they wanted and retire gracefully. Russo reluctantly conceded. He would later accuse Hogan of invoking the "Creative Control" clause in his contract. Hogan defended himself, saying that was the only time he outright invoked the clause.

  • For those who didn't watch WCW at the time (and really, who could blame you?) as soon as the opening bell rang, Jarrett immediately lay down in the middle of the ring to be pinned. Hogan very noticeably yelled at him "What the fuck are you doing?!" He then got on the mic and yelled at Russo "This is why no-one's watching! It's because of shit like this!!" He pinned Jarrett, and then walked out without even taking the belt.
