Taioko: Hey, under Game Breaker, shouldn't Neo G Red go there too?... Or is he less of one because the game forces you to get him?

32_Footsteps: Neo G Red is pretty capable of sweeping past hordes of mooks, but he doesn't have quite the survival power of a Barrier Girl (if the player is capable of dodging well, only a well-placed shot of a Wave-Motion Gun or a drilling melee attack is able to take her out) or a Beam Gunner (the king of Beam Spam, also in possession of the Wave-Motion Gun with the fastest recharge in the game). He's just a hair shy of being a Game-Breaker, simply because he doesn't have quite the survivability of the other two.

Taioko: I think I see where you're coming from... The fact that the computers are idiots can lead to Barrier Girl easily having enough breathing time to rebuff/rebuild her barrier. Against a human though, well, then I've got more disputes... But hey, I think I see what you mean. Also, Anubis Wing/Garuda's charged B breaks Barrier Girl's barrier and hits her, last I checked. If it doesn't hit on the first firebomb, it breaks with one, and hits with two. Anyway...once more, if you're talking about fights against the computer, then... I'm gonna say that those two are definitely good Borgs to have...but they can't clear challenge on easy by only hitting Forward and X without dying like Neo G Red, can they?! (I've done that once. I found it hilarious. In retrospect, I probably got lucky, but... It was nonetheless, very, very funny.) Then again, computers are so stupid, you could probably take a horde of them out with one of almost ANY Borg... Oh, also, speaking of the topic...

  1. : Someone taking out "Defeat the Death Borg Beta Unit!" with one Silver Roach. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92Gngk3GaE0
  2. : Same person (I think) doing "100 Rounds from the Gatling Gunner!" with one Silver Roach. Again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6hZ978DfNw

The second one doesn't do much other then provide a chuckle because the AI is so flawed in that stage... Then again, that's probably the same for the first one too.

I think both Barrier Girl and Beam Gunner are great Borgs, but... Against anybody but the AI, I don't think they're game-breakingly good. I think that being game-breakingly good goes to Neo G Red, whose survivability in a 1vs1 match won't be hampered, because his opponent is too busy "forgetting" that X button attack of his. I hope I'm not making too much of a deal out of this... But I do indeed enjoy talking about this game. I need to find another hobby other then Gotcha Force.

32_Footsteps: ... or maybe you need to visit my place and take me on.

My problem with your position is that unless the opposition is rather inexperienced, Neo G Red's Neo G Crash (his X button move) is never a surprise and is fairly telegraphed. It does work well at the end of a melee combo (as the combo generally sets up the opponent so that they can't dodge), but if you use it against human opponents with abandon, they will dodge around and pelt you with projectiles or their own dash attack. It really doesn't help that the Neo G Crash takes some time to complete - unlike the dashing drilling attacks of some other borgs (like for the Wing Borgs and Angel Borgs), it's long and cannot be cancelled.

Admittedly, Neo G Red stands up well to most folks, but I would still take either the Barrier Girl or Beam Gunner against all comers. Neo G Red would be in my top five, however (the other two would probably be Time Bomber and Flame Ninja, although an Ice Valkyrie might beat out one of those two).

Taioko: I wish I could take you up on that offer, but unfortunately, I'm unable to go traveling for various reasons. Sigh, lack of online mode... But I suppose it'd be really laggy either way, huh?

Neo G Red's X button move comes out fast, homes, and is difficult to dodge when spaced properly. I don't think it's that telegraphed, except by the fact that a good Neo G Red will want to use it as often as possible. (Mindgames!) His charged B button move is punishable at the same range his X is good, I think. If I remember properly, his startup animation for his X move consists of nothing other then this, "*pull sword back, thrust, kill/combo*', and it doesn't take too long either. Barrier Girl's "Rebuff/Rebuild the barrier!" animation takes about the same time, if my memory is serving me well...(and not stumbling over itself.)

His X button can be canceled out of, actually. Charged B. I've killed someone with the pre-drill hitbox, (the orange flash around NGR didn't even appear,) and then while the victory theme was playing, Neo G Red proceeded to fire a beam off directly in the camera's direction, before the orange flash could even appear.

I will agree, if you use Neo G Crash against human opponents with reckless abandon, they WILL dodge, if they're worth their salt. However, using it smartly, you can tear through so much. I find the Neo G Crash a ridiculous move. Superarmor was sprinkled throughout the move, it combos into his charged-B beam, and OUT of his charged-B beam, and the time when you're floating through the air in a supposed "Helpless" state can ALSO be canceled by a Beam, which, when finished, can allow you to then move freely, (and use another X attack,) again. In fact, using that combo, playing as just plain G Red, I've flown up, chased around, harassed, and eventually killed, a human played Red Attacker. This was rather awesome, I must say...but as Red Attacker cannot attack anywhere but beneath it, it isn't as important... BUT, it does mean that Neo G Red can nullify the advantages of some other flying borgs who attempt to utilize the "I'll just fly up and prance around dodging shots la la la" tactic... Which, while basic, -does- work against many Borgs. (Metal Hero, boo hoo) Me and a friend who play Gotcha Force frequently have a running gag of "broken" Borgs, the two we joke about are Garuda and Neo G Red. Occasionally Cyber Mars, but I don't think he's broken, just really good. Garuda and Neo G Red however... We both are in mutual agreement that they just blow competition out of the water. G Black, we find to be less broken then Neo G Red, but still very good.

Say! As a sidenote, do you know how to get Galactic Emperor and G Black? If not, here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRGjXFZjz5U (Assuming you try it/have not tried it yet, I suggest using a clean memory card and trading them over... I used it in January, and haven't had any side-effects yet... But G-Emperor is buggy. I've had to turn off the system a couple times because he froze my game... No damage to my save file, but still. G Black works fine, though.) Also, there's a little topic on Game FA Qs that's discussing the borgs competitively, trying to form them into a tier list, if you want to take a look, possibly adding your view. I'll link that if you care.

32_Footsteps: A bit of Natter for anyone interested in the reason for its poor reception amongst critics: Gotcha Force is hurt by a few things that pretty much guarantee a critical savaging. First, the graphics are clunky - despite when it came out, its visuals are about on par with GC launch titles... most people expected better graphics out of a game that was released when it was. Second was the oft-mocked voice acting (even those that like it admit it's terrible and enjoy it purely for Narm Charm)... really only a minor point, but you'd be amazed how often reviews overstate the importance of graphics and sound. Finally, the game starts slow - G Red is hampered until his upgrade to Neo G Red, and the game admittedly starts you with a fairly lousy collection of borgs. It takes time to build up a reasonable team... and critics often write off action games like Gotcha Force that take too much time to build into a good game. It's not fair, but it is how things play out at times.

Viper Sean: The graphics? Really? I thought the cartoony cel-shading was how it was meant to look.

Anyway, here's some footage from a Gotcha Force convention in Japan last year:
