Magus: Wait, why do we have a Demyx quote here? I'm not sure if he's the perfect example of That One Boss.

Wascally Wabbit: We've argued back and forth for some time on who if anyone is That One Boss of Kingdom Hearts and the fandom in general seems to do the same. However Demyx is definatly it for a large section of players and it's a really distinctive quote.

Shale: Arkham? All the infuriating enemies to choose from in DMC 3 and Mr. "I curl up and die when missiles are shot at me" is That One Boss? Standards are slipping, here.

Leedz: I'm glad that there's Sonic bosses listed here, but I'm appalled that the boss fight of Ice Cap Zone from Sonic 3 isn't listed here. That battle is INFURIATINGLY difficult. Robotnik's constantly blowing blasts of cold air from 3 different locations — one directly below his ship, and two from either side of a platform that drops down from it — that will instantly freeze you into a block of ice. You end up stuck there for a few seconds, and lose all your rings when you finally get loose. The catch? You have to stand ON the lowere platform to even reach the ship, so you're gonna get frozen. A lot. And you're going to lose your rings. A lot. Normally you can only get past this battle if Tails stops being a dumbass long enough to help you get your rings back.

  • I've found that particular level to be exponentially easier if you can nab a friend to play Tails for a while. If it's not currently on the list, I submit this as the reason why.-Entity325

Additionally, I'd like to submit the race with Metal Sonic from Sonic CD to this discussion. Not only is everything in the level insta-kill due to there being no rings, but Robotnik's chasing after you with a death beam, so you better move your ass. Plus, in this particular game, you can't spin dash instantly like in others; it has to sort of charge up first. (This also applies to Sonic CD-exclusive peel out.) The course has an odd contour to it, and usually had spikes at the peaks, so you NEEDED to dash up over them, but Robotnik's right behind you and about to burn your quills to a crisp. Plus, there's just plain getting AHEAD of Metal at all and not getting fried by him if he tries to pass you. And if he happens to get through that final archway before you do? Lights out.

Actually, while we're on Metal Sonic, trying to get past him in Sonic the Fighters is RIDICULOUS. Not only does he have every other fighter's moves, but moves of his own, plus ridiculous speed? That battle is absolutely MERCILESS. You've got to have lightning-fast reflexes and a crapload of luck to get anywhere in that battle. The only way I've ever beaten him is to immediately close in and just peck the hell out of him with Bean before he can even do anything.

[[Introbulus]]: Okay, some of these games need to have their own heading now. Look at the entries for Kirby and Sonic games and tell me they don't need a heading now. Keep in mind I could add roughly 5 entries to each of those right NOW. They are chock-full of difficult bosses. (You wouldn't think it, but Kirby's real challenging parts come from the truly epic bosses that are SO hard to beat. Meta-Knight, anyone?)

I Like Crows: Agreed. Mario also counts.

I Like Crows: Okay, obviously something was off with my Nights Into Dreams entries since they were removed. I want to revise and add them again, but since no reason was given I don't know what to change. Little help here? This was what I added:

  • Note that all of Jo D's bosses have a Hard Mode which must be beaten to proceed the game. Bomamba adds anthills to the holes, Cerberus' third head appears on the chain you need to pull to defeat it, and looking for Chameleon in the wrong place gives you a bomb that's almost impossible to escape.
  • In the first game we have Wizeman. He shifts between four attacks when you fight him. The fireballs are a minor annoyance, but the rows of rocks move up and down and can easily make you lose precious time, the snowballs makes Ni GHTS automatically grab onto them, and the timeglass-formed tornado is impossible to avoid unless you drilldash through the teeny tiny hole right in the middle. The later two pushes you further away from him. You can't hurt him until your other self has breaken through the barrier, but if you take too long he turns intangible and flies through you to the opposite side of the stage. The time limit doesn't help - if you fail the tornado you can't get hit or you won't have enough time to beat him! Did I mention that failing to beat a boss means you have to redo their stage, and his is the hardest?

Caswin: Sorry, I know this is subjective, but Perfect Chaos? Near impossible to get a hit on? He knows about maintaining momentum (rotating the control stick) while inside Chaos, right?
