From YKTTW Working Title: The Great Comics Crash of 1996

arromdee: This was discussed in YKTTW for a very short time considering it was a holiday, and I missed it.

  • Readership was already low before the boom. It's really not fair to blame low readership on the crash, since it was low most of the time anyway and the crash just corrected it back to its normal low level.
  • This wasn't the first recent crash. Remember in the late 1980's when there was a black and white crash caused by everyone trying to imitate Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
  • I don't think Marvel's bankruptcy had any connection to the crash at all. It was Ron Perlman (who is mentioned, but it's phrased to imply a much bigger connection with the crash than is justified).

(67.159.45.24) Some sources put the crash itself as taking place in 1993.
