-Z-: I'm going to remove the megaman X6 reference; the Nightmares are a physically manifest computer virus that makes reploids insane, for the most part. They're made by a reverse engineering of the sigma/zero virus in a chunk of Zero's remains from the previous game. Why the Nightmare Mother is what it is, only capcom can explain.
Scrounge: Would the Vehicons from Transformers: Beast Machines count? They're sparkless drones whose purpose is to remove the soparks of others, and since a spark is more or less a robot soul, I was thinking maybe they might, but this trope seems to be a weird fit on them.
Removed the Robin Hobb example as they fit Beta Baddies better.
Antheia: Beta Baddies is a red link. What does it refer to?
WonSab: Removed the "extracted from Mr. Game & Watch" part of the Brawl example, as that is a different substance that was used simply to enable the massive replication abilities the Shadow Bugs possess.
Antheia: I haven't played Kingdom Hearts, so I'll just put this Conversation In The Main Page here. Maybe someone else can figure out how it should be rewritten.
- The creatures born of the darkness in people's hearts from the Kingdom Hearts series, who gave this trope its name.
- The Nobodies from the sequel are supposedly the left over bodies when a person's heart becomes a Heartless, which also fits this trope (as they are BOTH born from the same person's negative emotions). As an aside, this creates a rather interesting result: Heartless are essentially 100% heart, just tainted, and Nobodies are 100% body without a heart.
- Actually, Nobodies have a body and soul. They just have no emotions (such as happiness, sadness, a conscience...)
- But no heart. So, Nobodies are actually The Heartless, whereas The Heartless...aren't. :/ (And, honestly; making them enemies? What the frack?! The Heartless hate The Heartless? What?)
- Roxas and Namine are special cases. They're supposed to be the leftover bodies, but Sora got better after he became a heartless, and Kairi was just too pure to become a heartless
- And as we learn in Kingdom Hearts II, Sora and Kairi were Heartless all along like the first Ansem, and Roxas and Namine are their Nobodies.
- The next generation of KH games are going to add a third kind of monster, something called an Unbirth. Who knows what they're made from... Answer: An interesting blend of Twinkies, Spirit and Phlebotinum.
- Supposedly they are the precursors to nobodies and heartless.

Majin Gojira: I've been thinking to create a subtrope of the Heartless which I've tenativly titled "Monster from the Id". I created a YKTTH for it here, but since I want to make it a subtrope of this, I want to get further consensus from this page.
The main differences between a standard Heartless and a Monster From The Id (which I'm thinking may be pluralized for the official trope) are that it is explicitly external and stems from a singal individual, as most heartless are part of a gestalt. Further, it acts negativly in the interest and desires of the source material (no mater how negative those wants and desires may be).
I'm probably going to try and make it a trope in another 3 days, but want a broader consensus.
