Seth: The Once more with feeling bit comes from an interview with Joss and a separate one with Amber Benson published in the official buffy magazine about a year and a half ago.

Scifantasy: He also talks about it in those terms in the liner notes to the CD of the musical.

Kilyle: Interesting to mention the singing from Voyager and the Hologram scenes from TNG. While I don't have any feelings either way for the TNG examples, I adored the spots where Doc got to sing. I think for a show that was about life on the road, his spots were just as key to his character as were Tom's forays into bad science fiction or Neelix's cuisine.

Maybe it's related to learning about Japanese culture, in which practically everybody is expected to sing karaoke after work and most voice actors sing their own songs, but I adore it whenever someone who's not "Broadway-calibre" (as you put it) just sings. When the character does the song, instead of the movie. I prefer this to when they hire some voice to do the songs because the actress isn't a high-quality singer. I love Kelsey Grammar's part in Anastasia and Mel Gibson's in Pocahontas for this reason.

jackattack: Do Ray Park as Toad and Bruce Lee as Cato really belong here? It is much more likely that they were hired because they had skills that the characters had, rather than their characters gaining skills that the actors had. Cato was always a badass, and Toad and Mystique were both upgraded in the X-Men script so that the fight scenes could last longer than five seconds.
