HeartBurn Kid: (regarding cutlisting) You know, I've often wondered at our policy against redirecting acronyms, even well-known ones. After all, redirects are cheap, and they'd help articles show up in searches.

Ethereal Mutation: The search system is pretty vital to the site. Clogging it up with lots and lots of acronyms and other Not A Wiki Word redirects just leads to a mess. There's also the fact that lots of acronyms are inadvertently shared amongst several pages and many actually form words that one might want to use for a proper article.

HeartBurn Kid: Ah, well, when you put it that way, it makes perfect sense.

Adam850: One more reason. We want to discourage people from using initials when referring to a work. If you add an example to a trope starting with "In TF 2... ", then "TF 2" should be red, indicating that the link is incorrect and hopefully the editor will change it to Team Fortress 2.

DEFCON 1 - Wat. Yes, it's lazy for whoever used initials, but it's fast, and, in most cases, people will know the initialed work.

Bossman: From Welcome To TV Tropes: "Acronym and initialism redirects. "ATLA" redirecting to Avatar The Last Airbender would be cut. Acronyms will never be used in isolation. The full title of the work always gets used first before switching to an acronym; don't assume that everyone else draws the same meaning from an acronym as you."
