Working Title: Jim Jones University and Berzerkeley: From YKTTW

Kizor: Trope and discussion page restored from Google cache following the Crash of '08. YKTTW appears lost.
Taper W: Amusingly, Animal House was filmed at the University of Oregon — whose hometown, Eugene, is often considered far-lefty and even now has many hippies — thus making Faber College a Jim Jones University filmed at Berzerkeley.
Taelor: Am I the only one who finds it ironic that the prototypical "conservative" Strawman University is named after a commited socialist with strong ties to Bay Area left-wingers and who actually recruited a number of his followers from UC Berkeley students?
  • Studiode Kadent: Nope. It is a genuine irony. Jim Jones was a socialist, but unfortunately the current political climate equates Christianity with political conservatism (as the term is currently understood in the US). The trope-archetypal "straw conservative U" should be given a name that's a clever derivative of either Liberty University or Brigham Young University, IMO... "So-Called-Liberty University" would be a better title, in this troper's judgment

Jordan: I didn't know that about him, although in any case, it seems not quite right to associate that type of strawman with such a vile psycho. How about something like Bible Belt U instead?
