Seth: Okay whats with all the fan fiction tropes, do we really want to open these floodgates? I mean remember Sturgeon's Law.

osh : There were already a couple examples in Fan Speak about different kinds of fanfic. Chalk it up to a bout of wikiholicness. But yeah, considering examples could get into highly subjective and potential minefields (Most Fic Writers Are Teens, eh?) I'm willing to wipe em if folks think it's a good idea.

Ununnilium: I think Fan Fic tropes belong just as much as any other Fan Speak trope.

Looney Toons: Sorry, Harley. FAIL. The following has been excised:

The very WORST types of Song Fic are officially declared to be the kind that:

  1. Have more lyrics than actual Fanfic.
  2. Have no actual fanfic AT ALL. There's actually a lot more of both of these kinds of story than you'd think.

The BEST type of Song Fic:

  1. Advises you to listen to the song by merely naming the story after the song. It works even better when you've never even heard of the name of the song.
  2. Advises you to listen to the song in brief notes at either the beginning or the end of the story. There are NO LYRICS AT ALL IN A GOOD SONGFIC BECAUSE READING SONGFICS IS LIKE WIPING YOUR ASS WITH A BROKEN BOTTLE.

Looney Toons: Natter nukage:

  • Does it count if the song being used is the opening music for the show, and is frequently played during dramatic moments and is then used during the climactic final battle in a fanfic?

Put questions like that here, Godeskian, on the discussion page. If it's not an example, don't put it in the freaking examples.

Surely there are some good songfics that have lyrics scattered throughout (ie ones that don't fall into any of the other cliches listed here). I mean, just having that format can't make it bad. It may attract bad authors but it can't make it bad in and of itself.
