Dragon Hawk (16 Feb 2009): I replaced the following discussion with a more concise version:

* The beginning of War Games shows NORAD personnel walking freely in and out while a ridiculously thick metal door is closing. Nobody, including the guards, pays any attention. This is in fact a Chekhov's Gun, as the heroes later exploit this to get into the control room at the last minute.
** Somewhat Truth in Television. The blast doors at NORAD headquarters in Cheyenne Mountain are 25 ton monsters of concrete and steel, and take about 15 seconds to close. There may be smaller doors in the same hallway, though.
"Nobody pays attention" is wrong. There is a guard posted, and as the heroes run in the lady staffer they're with can be heard shouting "They're clear, they're clear!"
