Doktor von Eurotrash: "Stephen King has indulged in this in just about every novel he's ever written; you can pretty much always expect at least one nasty (at best) or psychotic (at worst) fundamentalist Protestant character, who often doubles as the 'overbearing parent,' without any more positive examples to provide a contrast." Er, not in "just about every novel". The fundamentalist girl in Needful Things was a minor character, just another one of the victims of the Big Bad, and no more or less sympathetic than the other townspeople. None in Christine, none in The Tommyknockers, none in Insomnia, none in Rose Madder, none in Pet Sematary, none in Misery (granted, the last one has a tiny cast, and Anne voices some judgemental clichés, though that might just be part of her redneck characterisation).
